College Football Betting Tips: Rob Veno Week 3 Power Ratings

09.12.2011     08:04 AM     Rob Veno     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Rob Veno

Heading into Week 3 here are the top 30 teams in my college football power ratings. From the top of list to the bottom, there is 17 points difference and inside the Top 11, just a 9.5 point gap. Remember that the ranking order is based solely on sheer power ratings which are line making numbers, not personal opinion. Below are the top six adjustments both upward and downward made thus far from the season openers. The largest gain over the opening two weeks was seven points and the largest slide was five points.

College Football Gambling: Early Week 3 Line Moves

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Quick look at some of the more significant lines moves to occur since Sunday's openers. LSU was bet down from -4.5 to -3 for its Thursday night stand-alone matchup at Mississippi State. More love from the underdog on Friday with Toledo taking on money against Boise State. Bettors not sold on Penn State, especially at the quarterback position with Temple down from +12.5 to +9.5. Georgia Tech will be in revenge mode after losing last year in Lawrence, 28-25, as 13.5-point chalk. The Yellow Jackets quickly crossed the key number of -14. And heavy steam on Oklahoma State for its very precarious road trip to Tulsa. The Cowboys open the Big XII campaign at Texas A&M next week.

NCAAF Betting Markets: Golden Nugget GOYs vs. CRIS Week 3 Openers

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Here are comparisons for the Golden Nugget's Games of the Year from mid-June and CRIS's Week 3 opening lines. This is a prime example of looking at where teams were originally projected and where they stand in the current betting market landscape.

Note that Oklahoma State opened -11.5 over Tulsa but was bet up to its current number of -14 which now puts the difference at a full touchdown off of GN's opener.

College Football Betting Alert: PAC-12 officials change USC-Utah final score

09.11.2011     07:41 AM     Printer Friendly
Most sportsbooks have changed the grading on yesterday's USC-Utah game. Make sure to carefully check your tickets and balances to insure your bets are based on the new official outcome.

LOS ANGELES The final score of USC's win over Utah at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum has officially been changed from 17-14 to 23-14 after the Pac-12 Conference and USC worked to review a game-ending penalty call, a school spokesperson said Saturday.

The game officials ruled on the field that the Trojans' blocked kick returned for a touchdown didn't count and ended the game with the 17-14 final, but the Pac-12 ruled roughly two hours after the game ended that it should have counted and officially changed the score to 23-14.

Second half kick-off list

That will wrap up today's live blog. Great job by the Sportsmemo Crew with a 5-1 day. That ups our two-year live blog record to 53-33, 62%. Looking for more next Saturday.

(2:36 PT) Rob Veno passes along a recommendation on Memphis-Arkansas State Over 27.5 1st half.

(2:32 PT) Heavy steam on Temple across the board. Up to -16.5/-17 (Jazz) against woeful Akron.

(2:22 PT) Tim Trushel recommends Colorado +2.5 2nd half.

(2:10 PT) From Teddy: New Mexico St 8.5 yards per play at half v Minny. USC 5.1 yards per play vs Gophers D last week. Oregon more than 400 yards @ half v Nevada!

(2:09 PT) Now we know why Joe Pa was reluctant to name a starting QB. Nittany Lions' signal callers: 4-of-16, 41 yards first half against Alabama. Tide up 17-3.

(1:58 PT) Erin Rynning recommends NC State -3 2nd half.

(1:50 PT) Duke picks off Luck and takes it in for six. Cutcliff calls onside and Duke recovers. Blue Devils with the ball down 10-7 with 2 left in the 1st half.

(1:46 PT) From Erin Rynning: Gophers not quite ready for 3-TD favorite status, what happened to the D that shut down USC in 2nd H? New Mexico State up 21-7 (9.8 ypp) in Minneapolis.

(1:40 PT) A little easier against the WAC: Oregon up 27-0 (246 yards) with 9 and change left in the first against Nevada.

(1:33 PT) Renfree under constant pressure (two sacks already). Duke moving the ball against Stanford but Cardinal turning up the heat on third downs (0-for-6).

College Football Free Play: California Golden Bears at Colorado Buffaloes

California -6 at Colorado O/U 47
Recommendation: California

Last week in this spot, we bet against Colorado by way of an Under cash.  This week, we’ll look to fade the Buffaloes as a side against a team that dominated them by a 52-7 margin last year, yet only needs to win by a TD on Saturday to cover this pointspread.  Here’s a brief excerpt from last week’s write-up:

“First year Buffaloes head coach Jon Embree spent summer camp looking to develop playmakers on the offensive side of the football.  Unfortunately for Embree, he couldn’t find any – former head coach Dan Hawkins left the cupboard rather bare in terms of skill position talent.  After Colorado’s last scrimmage, Embree told the Denver Post “The offense was not good enough. Betting Stock Watch: Rutgers primed for turnaround after 2010's letdown

Buy the Rutgers Scarlet Knights – Embarrassing! That was the operative word to describe just about all parts of the Rutgers football team from last season. Whether it was the crazy 61 sacks allowed, the 114th ranked offense, or the defense that quit over their final three games of the season (144 points and over 1,600 yards allowed), things were ugly in Piscataway. However, as poor as the on-field play was so often last season, it serves as motivation for 2011. I expect Rutgers, who is no strangers to winning with a 36-16 record from 2006-10, to be one of the most improved teams in college football this year. Head coach Greg Schiano enters his 11th year as the helm of the program and after making his name as a defensive coordinator there are rumors he’s essentially in charge of this year’s stop-unit. Regardless of how much he’s actually “coordinating” there was an extensive amount of time spent this offseason searching for ways to improve. Speed was a focal point as Schiano ended Read more

UNLV at Washington State -13.5- O/U 55

Washington State has won six games the past 3+ season’s following its opening week blowout win over Idaho State, 64-21. Meanwhile, UNLV was getting dismantled on the road again, losing at Wisconsin 51-17 after the Badgers pulled their starters after leading 51-3. The Rebels have topped two wins just once over the last six years.

How bad is UNLV?  Well, the Rebels are on a 0-11 SU and 1-10 ATS run on the road as underdog following last week’s fortunate +35 backdoor cover in Madison. Many games are hardly competitive, and UNLV has been unable the cover big spreads the past two seasons. Just 3-23 SU on the road since 2007; check out these scores in defeat...
