Washington, D.C. readies internet gambling program

06.28.2011     07:26 AM     Printer Friendly
The Washington D.C. Lottery announced specific starting dates for its newly created internet gambling program. According to the rules, all players must by 19 years old – eliminating HS students but maintaining the college market. It also appears that the system does not cater to pro players with high stakes poker not offered.

The lottery will debut Blackjack and Victory at Sea in late July and release four more games - Bingo, poker, E-Scratch Offs and random number games - by Aug. 20, so players can get accustomed to the games before risking the contents of their wallets.

Mr. Roogow said the lottery is still hammering out ways to prevent collusion among players - for example a pair of players who divulge their Texas hold’em hands over the phone without the knowledge of a third man at the online table.

But, Mr. Roogow noted, they will not be offering high-stakes Read more

Atlantic City blackjack player enjoys the occasional night on the town

06.27.2011     07:23 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Remember Don Johnson? The guy who made headlines by taking various Atlantic City casinos for copious amounts of money playing blackjack? Well it appears that Mr. Johnson is a reality show waiting to happen. Following his $15 million triumph in Atlantic City, he took a trip across the pond and ended up buying the most expensive bottle of champagne ever recorded at a London nightclub. According to the nightclub owner, Johnson likes to "party very, very hard" and at one point during the evening took speaking in the third person to a whole new level by repeatedly screaming "Don motherf*****g Johnson" into a microphone.

MLB Handicapper Free Play: Cleveland Indians at San Francisco Giants

Cleveland (Carmona) at San Francisco (Bumgarner) -135 O/U 7
Recommendation: Under

We focused in on the under for Friday's Cleveland-San Francisco matchup and ended up scoring a disappointing push  as the Tribe allowed three unearned runs in a 4-3 loss. The philosophy was simple; the Giants are in an offensive slump and the Indians aren't built to hit lefties. Jonathan Sanchez was his normal self in allowing two hits, six walks and six strikeouts in 4.2 innings. Today, we get another lefty in Madison Bumgarner who command-wise is much more trustworthy. Bumgarner made headlines with an 8 ER, 0.1 IP performance last time out against Minnesota. Prior to that he was a quality start machine with 10 straight – he lowered his ERA from 7.79 to 3.21. I expect him to bounce back in a big way today. Cleveland's Fausto Carmona has been a disaster for much of the season and just got finished with a tough stretch of opponents; Colorado, Detroit, NY Yankees, Texas, Toronto and Boston. According to reports, Read more

NCAAF Handicapping: Wyoming moves forward with rookie quarterbacks

06.24.2011     11:46 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Wyoming was dealt back-to-back blows following the departure of their starting quarterback and his back-up. Austin Carta-Samuels bolted for Vanderbilt while Emory Miller left for personal reasons. That leaves third-year head coach Dave Christensen with two true freshmen, Brett Smith and Adam Pittser. Smith enrolled early and was present for spring practice. Pittsner comes highly regarded as a dual-threat who slipped under the radar due to a run-first high school offense. According to ESPN, Pittser was the No. 15 QB in the 2011 class – ahead of signees from Oklahoma, Florida and TCU. To put it in somewhat of a perspective, Carta-Samuels was ranked No. 72 back in 2009 and went on the earn Mountain West Freshman of the Year honors.

The situation certainly puts the Cowboys behind the eight ball in a year that showed initial promise with virtually the entire starting lineup on both sides of the ball slated to return. Christensen runs a Read more

Poker pro calls out fellow player for cheating at WSOP

06.23.2011     07:40 AM     Printer Friendly
Poker pros Daniel Negreanu and Michael Binger got into a heated discussion during the $10K H.O.R.S.E. Championship at the World Series of Poker on Wednesday. Negreanu verbally accused Binger of an "angle shot". Tournament director Robbie Thompson did not penalize Binger but instead issued a warning.

However, Binger was not impressed by Negreanu’s involvement and shouted that he should shut his “God-damn mouth!” because he reckoned his tournament life was “on the line”.

But four-time WSOP bracelet winner Negreanu was adamant that Binger had indulged in an angle shoot with his half-bet to find out exactly what his opponent’s intentions were.

NFL Betting: San Francisco 49ers favored five times in 2011

06.23.2011     07:01 AM     Printer Friendly
The San Francisco 49ers haven't made the playoffs in eight years – only Buffalo, Detroit and Houston have suffered longer droughts. Jim Harbaugh is set to begin his first season and has a lot of work to do in a limited amount of time. It appears that Alex Smith, though not officially signed, will be the team's starting quarterback. According to Cantor's NFL preseason lines, the 49ers are favored in five of their 16 games. The schedule rotation has them pitted up against the AFC North and NFC East.

“This is the start of a new generation,” GM Trent Baalke said when he hired Harbaugh. “What we have to do is bring back the culture of winning. He’s a guy who can lead the 49ers franchise Read more

MLB Handicapping: Betting market picks up on Linecum's struggles

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Minnesota (Duensing) at San Francisco (Lincecum) -175 O/U 6.5

San Francisco's Tim Lincecum always seems to get a pass when it comes to workload but his recent struggles are most assuredly a result of a four-game stretch in May where he threw a ridiculous 491 pitches. Since then, he’s been anything but effective with a 6.67 ERA over five starts. His BAbip during that stretch was a bit high (.370) though opposing teams registered some fairly strong numbers (.300 BAA, .374 OBP, .838 OPS). We've seen these swoons from Lincecum before with two rough four-game swatches in May and August of last year. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong, though because of his funky mechanics, the slightest change could throw him off. His velocity this season, even when getting smacked around, has been up compared to 2010. Lincecum posted a Read more

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
As its name implies, the TPC at River Highlands sits atop a ridge overlooking the Connecticut River, just 14 miles South of Hartford and 90 minutes from Boston. The par 70 layout features fairway’s that meander through the gorgeous rolling estate with the signature TPC mounding and natural amphitheaters provide unobstructed views.   Holes number 15-17 play around a four-acre lake, known as the ‘Golden Triangle’.  Banked by large hills, the closing stretch of holes offers fans great views for the exciting finish.

The 296-yard 15th is a fun, driveable risk/reward par 4 followed by no. 16, a dramatic par 3 over water.  Holes no. 4 and no. 17 ranked as two of the top 50 toughest holes on Tour last year, and the closing two holes are two of the strongest par 4’s that require accurate drives with water running along the entire right side of the signature hole no. 17.

Hollywood A-listers involved in high stakes poker, lawsuit

06.22.2011     07:20 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Guys like Tobey Maguire and Ben Affleck aren't exactly hot topics of discussion at Sportsmemo, unless of course they are involved in secret high stakes poker games and multi-million dollar lawsuits. The details are right out of a movie with uncollected debt, a Ponzi scheme, and of course Paris Hilton's sex tape partner. It seems somewhat hoaxy (most articles that cite Star Magazine are) but here's the court order for Mr. Maguire.

"That means he could have made up to $30 to $40 million from these games," the whistle-blowing card shark predicted.

"As part of the scheme, funds invested in (Ruderman) were transferred to persons such as Defendant (Maguire), who received the funds on account of Ruderman's Read more
