College Football Gambling: Oklahoma saying right things following Baylor embarrassment

11.13.2014     06:39 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Playing for pride is not something you often hear associated with Oklahoma but after last week's 48-14 loss to Baylor, the Sooners have three losses and two non-descript games against Texas Tech and Kansas upcoming before what is likely to be a ho-hum Battle of Bedlam. The team of course is saying all the right things heading into Saturday's game at Texas Tech. No line yet to do the questionable status of Sooners quarterback Trevor Knight.

"You have to win," defensive lineman Chuka Ndulue said. "That's the mentality. Because your goals are out the window now, it doesn't mean you have to go out there and give up on everything. There's still some pride that goes around the team. We want to accomplish finishing the season off on a high note and that's what we are going to do."

College Football Betting Preview: Nebraska Cornhuskers at Wisconsin Badgers

Nebraska at Wisconsin
Saturday, 12:30 pm PT - ABC
CRIS Opener:
Wisconsin -6 O/U 55.5
CRIS Current: Wisconsin -6 O/U 57
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Wisconsin -4
OTTO Sports' Recommndation: Under

Big battle in the Big Ten with Nebraska and Wisconsin both 4-1 in league play and in the hunt for the West Division title. This time of year we as bettors have a tendency to focus in on the conference-only statistics but in this case, because of strength of schedule, it’s hard to conclude just how good these two team are.

Wisconsin is currently a ridiculous +2.93 ypp in conference play; the type of stat you see attached to national title contenders which this team is not. The reason of course is UW's super-soft schedule. If you were to name the top four teams in the Big Ten outside of Wisky you'd probably come up with Ohio State, Michigan State, Nebraska, and Minnesota. Wisconsin hasn't Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Kansas State Wildcats at TCU Horned Frogs

Kansas State at TCU
Saturday, 4:30 pm PT - FOX
CRIS Opener: TCU
-6 O/U 60.5
CRIS Current: TCU -6 O/U 57.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: TCU -5
Ian Cameron's Recommendation: Kansas State

Kansas State and TCU square off in a pivotal battle of 7-1 teams looking to not only keep pace for the Big XII crown but also stay in the hunt in the hotly contested four-team playoffs.

Kansas State has gotten progressively better this season with current streaks of 5-1 SU and 6-0 ATS. Since losing at home to Auburn, K-State has beaten UTEP, Texas Tech, Texas, and Oklahoma State by a combined margin of 174-55. They also took down Oklahoma, 31-30, as TD+ road underdogs.

Statistically, KSU has the best defense in the Big XII: 18.6 ppg (12th nationally), 321 ypg (16th) and 4.9 ypp allowed. It’s a great matchup against a TCU offense that has been executing like a well-oiled machine for much of the Read more

Detailed story about massive Texas sports betting operation

11.06.2014     06:49 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Extensive article on what they called the "biggest illegal sports betting ring in Dallas." Worth a read.

"Hey, why don't you come in?" Merkow told the possible new business partner. "You can make all kinds of money once you put it on the Internet. We'll split the profits 50-50, or we can do it 25-75, whatever you feel comfortable with." The bookie agreed to start using Global to place some layoff wagers -- hedge bets made by a bookie with too much action on one side.

College Football Betting Preview: Ohio State Buckeyes at Michigan State Spartans

Ohio State at Michigan State
Saturday, 5 pm PT - ABC
CRIS Opener:
Michigan State -2 O/U 63.5
CRIS Current: Michigan State -3.5 O/U 57.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Michigan State -1
Rob Veno's Recommendation: Michigan State

Huge implications attached to this game with the most recent Playoff Committee top 25 poll ranking Michigan State at #8 and Ohio State #14. It essentially makes this an elimination game. Winner here also has the inside track on representing the Big Ten Eastern Division in the conference championship game. Each side enters on a six game straight-up win streak (OSU 5-1 ATS, MSU 4-2 ATS) and playing their best football of the season.

It seems as if Ohio State’s J.T. Barrett has made injured starter Braxton Miller’s name basically disappear from the minds of college football fans and media across the country. It’s true that unlike last season Read more

College Football Handicapping: Week 11 early line moves

11.03.2014     01:54 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Quick look at some of the early moves in the Week 11 college football betting markets.

Bowling Green at Akron
CRIS Opener: Akron -5
CRIS Current: Akron -7
Comment: Akron off a bye week. Bowling Green off a double bye week not having played since October 18.

UL-Monroe at Appalachian State
CRIS Opener: Appalachian State -2.5
CRIS Current: Appalachian State -3.5
Comment: Mountaineers delivered goods after big (weather related) line move last week. ULM has lost four straight, failing to top 20 points in any of the four games.

Michigan at Northwestern
CRIS Opener: Northwestern pk
CRIS Current: Michigan -2
Comment: Amazing what a few weeks can do to the perception of a team. Northwestern beat Penn State and Wisconsin while Michigan had lost three straight. Fast forward: Wolverines have won two of three and the Wildcats close to packing it in after three straight losses (the last of which 48-7 off of a bye vs. Iowa).

Duke at Syracuse
CRIS Opener: Duke -4
CRIS Current: Duke -3
Comment: Duke's suspect defensive numbers Read more

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wiseguy Report: NFC News and Notes

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
We’re into November, just past the halfway point of the 2014 NFL season.  The truths that we learned in September aren’t proving to be quite so true now that the season has progressed.  In this week’s wiseguy report, we’ll take a quick tour around the NFC landscape, focusing on some hidden gems of knowledge from around the league.

With their dominating win on Sunday, the Arizona Cardinals are now 14-3 SU, 13-3-1 ATS in their last 17 ballgames.  Only one of those three losses came by more than a field goal – their game at Denver, when third string rookie QB Logan Thomas was forced into action after injuries to Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton.

Yet the Cardinals statistical profile continues to confound wiseguy bettors.  Arizona went into their game at Dallas on Sunday with a -0.6 yards per play differential.  To put that number in perspective, the Oakland Raiders entered the weekend with a - 0.5 yards per play differential, the Jacksonville Jaguars had a -0.7 ypp differential.    And the Cards have been on the lucky end of the turnover equation this year, now +10 for the season after winning the Read more

NBA Gambling Update: Oklahoma City's Westbrook out but upcoming schedule favorable

10.31.2014     08:37 AM     Printer Friendly
UPDATE

Things have certainly gone south in a hurry for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Kevin Durant is out, various role players are banged up, and now Russell Westbrook is on the shelf with a broken hand. The betting markets have already shown their anti-Thunder hand with big moves against the team their first two games. Perhaps they can weather the storm until Durant and Westbrook return thanks to a favorable upcoming schedule. From now through mid-December, when the duo is expected to return, the Thunder play 10 games against the Eastern Conference and avoid Western Conference contenders Portland, San Antonio, Dallas, and the Los Angeles Clippers. They also get Houston, Golden State, and Phoenix at home.
