NFL Gambing Preview: Carolina Panthers at Tennessee Titans

Carolina at Tennessee
Sunday, 10 am PT - FOX
CRIS Opener:
Carolina -6.5 O/U 42.5
CRIS Current: Carolina -4 O/U 44
Recommendation: Tennessee

There are bad spots. There are really bad spots. And then there are truly horrific spots – unbettable spots – like the one the Panthers are in this Sunday.

I’ve been a Carolina supporter on multiple occasions in recent weeks, cashing several winning bets for myself and my clients in support of Ron Rivera’s squad. I know that the Panthers have been an undervalued commodity for most of the season. I know how good their defense is. I know that Cam Newton is better than his overall stats would indicate. This is not a bet based on disrespect for Carolina; not a chance.

But take a hard look at this spot for the Panthers. They came out of their bye and played a chippy, physical playoff revenge matchup at Seattle, rallying from two scores down in the fourth quarter to win; a maximum intensity game. The Panthers followed that up with an appearance on Sunday Night Football against the Eagles, another intense battle against an NFC Read more

Kansas City at Denver
Sunday, 12:30 pm PT - CBS
CRIS Opener:
Denver -7 O/U 42.5
CRIS Current: Denver -6 O/U 42
Recommendation: Over

Things change quickly in the NFL and there’s a different feel about Denver than there was just four days ago when they were 7-0. Obviously the loss to Indianapolis which was the late afternoon national game drew a lot of viewers. That negative perception of the Broncos combined with the losses of star defensive players DE DeMarcus Ware (back) and CB Aqib Talib (suspension) have taken the opening line of -7 down to -6 or even -5.5 depending on the outlet. Kansas City meanwhile is rested off of a bye and two consecutive victories prior to it. There’s certainly a sense of atonement in the Chiefs locker room after the unbelievable way they gift wrapped their Week 2 contest to Denver so expect them to be as motivated as possible for this divisional rematch.

Denver’s defense looked average for the first time last week and without a pair of their top players, it may make this week a bit difficult too.The Broncos like to apply consistent pressure up Read more

NFL Gambling Preview: Denver Broncos at Indianapolis Colts

Denver at Indianapolis
Sunday, 1:30 pm PT - CBS
CRIS Opener:
Denver -3 O/U 45
CRIS Current: Denver -5.5 O/U 44.5
Recommendation: Indianapolis

There’s one key question to answer before we begin any handicap of the Colts-Broncos matchup on Sunday.  Did Andrew Luck find his missing mojo in the fourth quarter of Indy’s OT loss to Carolina on Monday Night?  If he did, the Colts may be live underdogs here.  If he didn’t, a Colts team that has significant personnel weaknesses on both sides of the football is primed to take another loss on Sunday.

Two weeks ago, the Colts looked lethargic and lifeless, falling behind New Orleans 27-0 at home.  Indy rallied late, thanks to three Luck TD passes, but there has to be an asterisk there – on two of the three TD passes, the Saints cornerback fell down on the play.  It’s surely worth noting that the same Saints defense that shut out Indy for three quarters proceeded to allow six TD passes from Eli Manning last week.

Then last week, in the rain at Carolina, Luck and the Colts offense produced a Read more

NFL Handicapping: New York Jets to start Fitzpatrick vs. Jacksonville

11.05.2015     07:50 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Despite a torn ligament in his non-throwing hand the New York Jets plan on starting Ryan Fitzpatrick for Sunday's game vs. Jacksonville. Geno Smith, who is also banged up with a bum shoulder, will be the backup. As of Thursday morning, there is still no line on the game.

"No limitations today," Fitzpatrick said. "Really, just kind of a trial run to see how it was going to feel and what the best way to do (things) going forward would be in terms of using it or not using it and all that. Today was a pretty positive day in that regard."

NFL Gambling News: Manziel to start vs. Cincinnati

11.04.2015     07:19 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
It's clear that Cleveland head coach Mike Pettine doesn't want Johnny Manziel under center as Josh McCown's corpse remains -- in Pettine's eyes -- the better option. But heading into Thursday's divisional game vs. Cincinnati, it looks as if Manziel will get the defacto nod with McCown (ribs) downgraded to doubtful. The Bengals have been bet up from -10.5 to -11 with the total down from 47.5 to 45.5.

"On the short week, we realized that Josh just wasn't going to be able to get to the point where he could go," Browns coach Mike Pettine said in a statement. "Johnny has worked hard to prepare himself. He is excited about his opportunity and we are all looking forward to the challenge."
