College Football Handicapping: Week 11 Injury Report

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Stanford won’t have DE Ben Gardner for the rest of the season, but at least it is getting another 2012 All-Pac-12 selection back in the lineup. DE Henry Anderson is ‘probable’ vs. Oregon after missing several games with a leg injury.

Troy uses a two-QB system with Deon Anthony used in running situations. Anthony has rushed for 392 yards and three TDs while averaging 5.8 yards per carry. Anthony, who also has three TD passes without an interception, is ‘doubtful’ Thursday at UL-Lafayette after spraining his ankle in a 49-37 loss to ULM last week. Corey Robinson (18-8 touchdown-to-interception ratio) will get all the snaps for the Trojans.

Wisconsin WR Jared Abbrederis has been upgraded to ‘probable’ vs. BYU after sustaining a chest injury on a touchdown catch in Saturday’s 28-9 win at Iowa. The Badgers will also get back two-time All Big Ten linebacker Chris Borland, who has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury.

Iowa QB Jake Rudock left the Wisconsin loss in the second half with a knee injury, but he’s good to go and will start at Purdue. Rudock has a 12-9 TD-INT ratio.

Betting College Football Totals: Identifying Late Season Opportunities

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Each year, the final third of the regular season features teams that finish on streaks. Those streaks are predominantly caused by one of three reasons: 1) a team is simply gassed and with no potential for post season play they let go of the rope, 2) they grow more cohesive, show incremental improvement and really hit their stride late in the year, or 3) the return or loss of key personnel due to injury creates great momentum or forces a team into a downward spiral. Here are four college football teams that appear to be headed for late season totals runs.

Virginia – They’ve now played five consecutive overs due mostly to the erosion of their defense which has allowed at least 27 points in every game during the span and an average of 40.8. The offense has contributed to higher scoring games too as QB David Watford and the passing game has become a bit more dependable. Plenty of value has been given to over bettors in Cavs games as the last five have closed between 49 and 56. This week’s game versus North Carolina is currently inside that range again at 51. Not sure that the absence of Tar Heels’ quarterback Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Nebraska Cornhuskers at Michigan Wolverines

Nebraska at Michigan
Saturday, 1:30 pm PT - ABC
CRIS Opener:
Michigan -6.5 O/U 63
CRIS Current: Michigan -7 O/U 57.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Michigan -4.5
Ian Cameron's Recommendation: Nebraska

Michigan is simply too inconsistent on both sides of the football to trust laying a full touchdown at home against Nebraska. We’ve seen Michigan’s defense unable to stop anyone like when they allowed 47 points to Indiana and 43 points to Penn State in back-to-back weeks. On the flip side, we’ve seen Michigan have games where the offense gets shut down like last week when they dropped a 29-6 loss to in-state rival Michigan State. Michigan is 1-2 SU and ATS in their last three games and even their lone pointspread cover during that stretch of games against Indiana was a fortunate one. This team isn’t clicking on both sides of the football and doesn’t appear worthy of this price Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Arizona State Sun Devils at Utah Utes

Arizona State at Utah
Saturday, 1 pm PT - PAC-12 Network
CRIS Opener:
Arizona State -7 O/U 65
CRIS Current: Arizona State -7 O/U 63.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Arizona State -8
Andrew Lange's Recommendation: Utah

Two teams headed in opposite directions provide us with value on the home side as Utah plays host to Arizona State off of a bye week. After not having to leave the state for the first six games of the year, the Utes lost back-to-back road tilts at Arizona and USC. If you look at their body of work you'll notice that they've been competitive in practically every game with close losses to Oregon State and UCLA. The Arizona game was a one score contest before the Wildcats sprung for a big run while trying to run out the clock. And last time out against USC, the Utes coughed up the ball four times in a game that was statistically even. And speaking of turnovers, that has been Utah's downfall Read more

College Football Betting: UNC's Renner out, Williams to start vs. Virginia

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Virginia at North Carolina -13.5

North Carolina announced that senior quarterback Bryn Renner will miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. That means sophomore Marquise Williams will be in charge of the offense. Williams' role has steadily increased – he started vs. Virginia Tech and played in each of the last three games. Williams doesn't have Renner's passing touch down field but he can run and overall the Tar Heels shouldn't lose a step offensively. UNC has managed to weather the storm of its 1-5 start with back-to-back wins. Their quest for a postseason berth is alive and well with Virginia, at Pittsburgh, Old Dominion, and Duke to close out the year.

College Football Gambling: Oklahoma braces for Baylor's offense

Oklahoma at Baylor -15 O/U 72.5

Oklahoma's Bob Stoops talks about prepping for Baylor's offense. The Sooners won 2012's meeting in Norman, 42-34. They held the Bears to 424 yards (5.05 ypp). Kansas State, Baylor's only real test of the season, played keep-away by running the football 58 times for 327 yards. The Bears ran only 59 plays (7.6 ypp) and punted six times but still found a way to win 35-25.

"They have great speed on the perimeter and they use it and they isolate you," he said. "That, to me, is what is stressful about it. They run the football. They create so much room on the football field that most people can't or don't do.

"It's hard to get underneath help because the splits are so wide. It's

College Football Betting Preview: BYU Cougars at Wisconsin Badgers

BYU at Wisconsin
Saturday, 12:30 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Wisconsin -7.5 O/U 55.5
CRIS Current: Wisconsin -7.5 O/U 55.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Wisconsin -8.5
Marty Otto's Recommendation: Wisconsin

BYU makes the trek to Madison to face the red hot Wisconsin Badgers who come in off back to back conference road wins. This should prove to be a good matchup for a pair of teams that have had plenty of spread success this season (BYU 5-3 ATS, Wisconsin 7-0-1 ATS).

Wisconsin’s Gary Andersen is in his first year at the helm having come in from Utah State. Andersen is no stranger to BYU as his old side routinely caused the Cougars all sorts of trouble. He seems like a great fit here for the Badgers and his blue collar approach and willingness to lean on a three headed monster of a running attack has brought plenty of success.

The Badgers will pound the rock but it’s not just a Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Ohio Bobcats at Buffalo Bulls

Ohio at Buffalo
Tuesday, 5 pm PT - ESPN2
CRIS Opener:
Buffalo -2.5 O/U 55.5
CRIS Current: Buffalo -4 O/U 55.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Buffalo -3
Teddy Covers' Recommendation: Buffalo

This is by far the best Bulls team since their eight win season in 2008; the year Buffalo played in its only bowl game.  And make no mistake about it – the Bulls have this game circled on their calendar after losing a frustrating heartbreaker to Ohio U last year; a defeat that sent Buffalo into a major funk.

The Bulls come into this game riding a six game winning streak, their longest since 1959.  Their two losses this year – at Ohio State and at Baylor – are certainly nothing to be ashamed of.  And since those two defeats, QB Joe Licata (9-3 as a starter) has an 11-2 TD-INT ratio, making good decisions with the football finding Alex Neutz and Fred Lee downfield on a consistent Read more

College Football Gambling: Oregon says big points are coming vs. Stanford

11.05.2013     08:04 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Oregon -10.5 at Stanford

Prior to last year's 14-point output, Oregon didn't have any trouble putting points on the board against Stanford. From 2007-12, the Ducks hung 55, 35, 42, 52, and 53 on the Cardinal. But last year's meeting, Stanford was able to make life difficult on the Ducks by holding them to 405 yards and 4-of-17 on third down en route to a 17-14 OT victory.  Heading into Thursday night's showdown, Oregon is confident that their high scoring ways will return.

"I don't think so," Thomas told Oregon's official website. "I feel like, this team, we should at least put up 40."

College Football Betting: Will Duke avoid another late season meltdown?

NC State at Duke -9

It's a new season but a past situation I’ve been patiently waiting to mention. Going to the postseason is a big deal for the Duke Blue Devils. Prior to last year's Belk Bowl appearance, the program went 17 years without participating in the postseason. In mid-October of last year, Duke scored a huge upset win over in-state rival North Carolina to get to six victories. Following that win however was a well-documented tank job. Yes, the Blue Devils were underdogs in their last four regular season games (three of which by double-digits) but they were outscored 198-96 and it resulted in an 0-4 SU/ATS finish. To their credit, the bounced back and showed well for 59 minutes against Cincinnati in the Belk Bowl but managed to suffer one of the worst late game meltdowns in recent history – tied 34-34 with less than a minute to go, Duke lost 48-34.

Two weeks ago, Duke posted another big upset win by beating Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. At 6-2, Read more
