College Football Betting Preview: Georgia Bulldogs at South Carolina Gamecocks

Georgia at South Carolina
Brent Crow’s Recommendation:
South Carolina
Saturday, 4 pm PT – ESPN
CRIS Opener:
South Carolina -2.5 O/U 57
CRIS Current: South Carolina -1.5 O/U 55
Rob Veno’s Power Rating: South Carolina -1

Both teams come in off of wins last week, although neither club played up to its capabilities. Georgia’s defense was toasted for 44 points by Tennessee, but they came up with four turnovers, including three in the last six minutes to win 51-44. The Bulldogs got two All-America defenders back from suspensions in Alec Ogletree and Baccari Rambo, but they still allowed 478 yards to the Tennessee offense.

South Carolina’s defense had a rough first half against the Maxwell Smith-less Kentucky offense, and the Gamecocks had to rally from a 17-7 deficit to win, 38-17. For the game, SC again posted solid numbers, holding Kentucky to just 243 Read more

Miami (OH) at Cincinnati
Saturday, 4 pm PT – ESPN Gameplan
CRIS Opener:
Cincinnati -20.5 O/U 55
CRIS Opener: Cincinnati -20.5 O/U 55
Rob Veno’s Power Rating: Cincinnati -18

Here’s one rivalry game this weekend that likely won’t get much attention but perhaps some overwhelming trends will catch your eye. It’s the battle for the Victory Bell as the Miami RedHawks take on the Cincinnati Bearcats.

Cincinnati is fresh off a win over Virginia Tech; a come-from-behind effort highlighted by a touchdown with less than 20 seconds remaining at FedEx Field. The win catapulted the Bearcats into the top 25 national rankings and upped their record to a perfect 3-0.

Miami is fresh off a last minute come from behind victory of its own, upending Akron in a wild shootout. West Virginia and Baylor may have garnered all the attention as their quarterbacks went off in record setting Read more

A must have for College Football bettors: Sportsmemo's ACCU-Stats

Imagine trying to solve a puzzle without all of the pieces or paint a picture without a full palette of colors at your disposal. In both cases you could come close to achieving your goal, but in the end it would be a frustrating, unfinished product. Trying to handicap college football games without all of the colors or with bent, out of shape pieces is also an exercise in futility. It can also be a costly mistake to make when you have your money on the line.

Luckily for us, the NFL provides everything we need in an accurate manner. There are also different ways to harvest this data on a play-by-play, down-by-down scale. You can find anything you want about an NFL offense or defense, and best of all it is accurate information. But with college football, that is definitely not the case. The NCAA, for whatever reason, does not even care to categorize each play in the right place. Sacks are the end of a passing play and not an attempt to run the ball. However, according to NCAA stats, they go down as a running play. Snapping the ball over the punter’s head is also chalked up as a running play for the offense. In a game with one Read more

College Football Gambling: UL-Lafayette comfortable with Broadway at quarterback

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Tulane at Louisiana-Lafayette -23.5 O/U 56.5

UL-Lafayette will start quarterback Terrance Broadway this weekend against Tulane. Last week Broadway spelled starter Blaine Gautier who broke his wrist. Head coach Mark Hudspeth said Gautier won't play quarterback again this season though he may see playing time in the secondary once he heals. Broadway finished the game 15-of-19 for 228 yards as the Ragin Cajuns rolled up Florida International 48-20.

“There’s no looking past this game, I can assure you that,” Cajuns coach Mark Hudspeth said Monday. “We had a 45-minute meeting last night, and we talked about the importance of this game. I went through and read to them all the scores (in the series) going back to 1911, and there were some pretty lopsided scores, and we’ve taken our lumps on most of Read more

NCAAF Gambling: Oklahoma having difficult time duplicating last year's fast pace

10.02.2012     07:24 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Oklahoma -5 at Texas Tech O/U 58.5

Last year, Oklahoma led the nation is offensive plays per game at nearly 81. This year, the Sooners are having difficulty duplicating that type of frenetic pace with a more modest 72.3 plays per game. In a recent article from the Tulsa Word, both coaches and players had a plethora of excuses as to why the offense has yet to really take off (43 points vs. Kansas State and UTEP). Perhaps it's a sign that they simply don't have the horses this season. OU's two lined games went under the closing total by 13.5 and 32 points.

"Execution is what allows you to move the ball and to succeed, whether it's fast or slow," Stoops said. "So overall, any time we're not moving the football, the immediate need is the execution needs to be better."

"It is tiring. Read more

College Football Betting: Virginia may start Sims, Duke's Renfree still questionable

Virginia at Duke -2 O/U 57

Virginia announced that if healthy, quarterback Phillip Sims (leg) will start at Duke on Saturday. Trailing by 20 last week against Louisiana Tech, Sims came in and threw for 166 yards and two touchdowns. Duke quarterback Sean Renfree (elbow) is listed as questionable.

“If he’s 100 percent ready to go, he will get snaps with the first unit,” London said Monday night about Sims. “If he’s not [and] cannot perform because of a lower-leg injury, then Mike will be in that position.”

“That’s as honest as I can be about the Read more

Betting on the best teams in Collge Football hasn't worked out thus far

10.01.2012     01:38 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
College football rankings are something we don't pay much attention to but we can't help but notice some of the poor spread records of the best teams (or so the media says) in the country. Alabama, Oregon, Florida State, LSU and Georgia are your current AP Top 5 and not one has a winning mark ATS (8-16 ATS combined). The combined mark of the Top 10 gets bolstered by up-and-comers Florida (3-1 ATS), Notre Dame (3-1) and Kansas State (3-1). Even more intriguing is the AP's Preseason Top 10 and only one team (South Carolina, 4-1) out of that group has a winning spread record. Those 10 teams combined are 15-29 ATS. If you remember back to last season, there was a long stretch where ranked teams were covering games at a furious rate. We found an old blog dated from October 25th that mentioned the AP Top 10 was 56-15-1 ATS.

College Foobtall Betting: SEC News and Notes Week 5

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Arkansas has turned into a downright embarrassment to the SEC now after losing 58-10 to Texas A&M last week. The Hogs have committed 15 turnovers on the season and forced just two. The defense has now allowed over 2,500 yards in five games and there appears to be no answers coming from bankrupt head coach John L. Smith. Arkansas is now a 10-point underdog at Auburn. War Eagle comes in off of a bye after battling LSU to a two-point loss two weeks ago.

The most exciting game of the week was in Athens as 5th ranked Georgia held off Tennessee, 51-44. The two teams combined for 1,038 yards of offense and seven turnovers while scoring six touchdowns on plays longer than 32 yards. The Tennessee run defense was gashed again, as both Georgia running backs had over 130 yards and the Bulldogs finished with 282 yards on the ground.

The other three SEC teams ranked in the top six in the nation – Alabama, LSU, and South Carolina – were in action but not at the top of their respective games. South Carolina actually trailed Kentucky 17-7 at halftime, and the Wildcats were once again without starting quarterback Maxwell Smith, who left during the Cats’ Read more
