Heavy steam on Baylor; Sportsbooks finally hang Oregon/LSU line

08.31.2011     11:42 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
One of the bigger lines moves of the morning saw TCU pounded down from -6 to -4/-4.5 for its Friday matchup at Baylor. Another big move was Missouri hammered up from -16 to -20.5 against Miami (OH). Nearly all of the 7's on the Idaho/Bowling Green game were taken out with the Vandals now 6-point home chalk. And we are finally starting to see some offshore and Vegas sportsbooks post odds on the much anticipated Oregon/LSU matchup. 5Dimes was one of the few books accepting bets over the last week but CRIS, Pinnacle and Hilton joined the party earlier today. The Ducks reopened as a 4-point favorite.

NCAA Handicapper Game Preview: TCU Horned Frogs at Baylor Bears

TCU at Baylor (Friday, 5 pm PT – ESPN)
CRIS Opening Line:
TCU -6.5 O/U 57
CRIS Current Line: TCU -6 O/U 56.5
Rob Veno Power Rating: TCU -8
Teddy Covers Power Rating: TCU -7.5

Marty Otto’s Betting Take: The first proverbial “revenge" game of the season takes place in Waco on Friday night as Baylor is out for blood against highly ranked and highly regarded TCU. Fresh off a perfect 13-0 season and a Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin, much is expected from the Horned Frogs in 2011. This despite the fact that they must replace second round draft choice and four-year starter Andy Dalton, Mr. Everything Jeremy Kerley, top sack master Wayne Daniels, and four offensive linemen. College Football Handicapping: Miami goes with interception prone Morris

08.31.2011     08:54 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Miami (FL) at Maryland N/L

With quarterback Jacory Harris suspended for the Miami's opener at Maryland, the Hurricanes will turn to back-up Stephen Morris. Morris has a history of throwing passes to the opposition with nine picks in only 153 passing attempts last year. Maryland was tied for 11th nationally with 19 interceptions last season while UConn notched 20 under Randy Edsall who is set to begin his first season in College Park. We would imagine that first-year head coach Al Golden will play things rather conservative with Morris under center and his squad opening the campaign with a road conference game.

NCAAF Betting Notes: Utah State head coach preps team for Auburn trip

08.31.2011     08:30 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Utah State at Auburn -21 O/U 57

Transcribed press conference from Utah State head coach Gary Andersen as his team prepares for Saturday's game at Auburn.

“Overall, a lot of competition on this team. I would sit back and say as a result of this first game, there are going to be 15-20 brand new faces that have never taken a Division I snap, get snaps in this game which is great for us..."

“I agree. The question is the humidity. Last couple of days, the humidity when I have looked and what I have been told has been close, but I believe we are going to hop up to 75 or 80 percent humidity, whatever it may be, very quickly. It has been hot here. We have put them Read more

CRIS Opening Line:

CRIS Current Line: Wisconsin -35 O/U 56
Rob Veno Power Rating: Wisconsin -33.5
Teddy Covers Power Rating: Wisconsin -40.5

Marty Otto’s Betting Take: The Rebels travel east to begin the season with a primetime ESPN tilt. This is a return matchup from last season where Wisconsin won in Las Vegas, 41-21. The score looked closer than the actual play on the field – Wisconsin outgained UNLV by 258 yards – but the spread was very much in play (plenty of 20 and 20.5 available). Of course the big news this offseason in Madison was the transfer of Russell Wilson from NC State and the dynamic rushing Read more

NCAAF Pointspread Analysis: Bettors key in on big Week 1 favorites

08.30.2011     01:10 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The chalk just got a little chalkier with the betting markets showing significant love for a handful of big Week 1 favorites. Let’s take a look at some of the matchups and line moves.

Mississippi State at Memphis - Did you know Mississippi State has been a road favorite just nine times since 2001? You’ll also be curious to know that of those nine games not once were they asked to lay double-digits. Their biggest line was -8 at Louisiana Tech back in 2008 – a game they lost outright 22-14. The line and the movement for this matchup not only suggest bettors like Dan Mullen’s squad but also that Memphis is going to be REALLY bad.

CRIS Opener: Mississippi State -27
CRIS Current: Mississippi State -29
