SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Despite a lifetime undefeated mark of 47-0, Las Vegas bettors aren't really into betting Floyd Mayweather these days.

"We took a couple big bets on Floyd, but not as many as in the past," said John Avello, executive director of the Wynn Race and Sports Book. Rood said the MGM took a couple of six-figure bets on Mayweather, but not nearly as many as in previous fights.

"Floyd's not the most popular guy," Bogdanovich added. "His fights aren't really exciting. People are tired of it."

NFL Gambling News: Vegas sportsbooks make out like bandits in Week 1

09.10.2014     07:47 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Big opening week in the NFL for Las Vegas sportsbooks as multiple "ugly" underdogs cashed tickets.

“This was the best opening day we’ve ever had here,” said Golden Nugget sports book director Tony Miller. “Just about every game we needed came through for us beginning with our biggest, the Falcons, and then the rest just followed suit like the Browns, Dolphins and then the Panthers. It wasn’t a good day for those that bet parlays on the afternoon.”

“There was so much public money on Denver and even when I raised it higher than the market number, I was still getting action on them with limit straight bets and parlays,’ said Miller. “They couldn’t get enough of Denver.”

NHL is reportedly headed to Las Vegas

08.27.2014     06:13 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The NHL in Las Vegas? The NHL in Las Vegas! Reports are saying a team in Sin City is a "done deal" as the league looks to expands in the not-so-distant future. The Las Vegas Coolers, Blackjacks, and Dice were some of the team names Twitter came up with last night. We’ll go ahead and tell you right now that the nickname won’t have anything to do with gambling -- even though all three of those are pretty cool. Bank on something that relates to the desert, Area 51, the heat, or cowboys.

Sources close to the situation have indicated Las Vegas is a done deal, the only thing to be determined being which owner will be entitled to proclaim that he brought the first major league sports franchise to Sin City.

Online gambling needs interest from more states

08.08.2014     06:34 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
By now you've heard of the ridiculous Restoration of America's Wire Act in which old goof Sheldon Adelson and his political minions are trying to completely shut down online gambling. That includes the states that just made it legal like Nevada and New Jersey. It's not like $290,000 is a lot of money to Adelson, but despite the fact that there is practically zero chance the Wire Act will be passed, that is how much money was thrown into the anti-online gambling cause during the second quarter. But even though Adelson's attempt to shut down everything will fall short, his efforts are certainly hampering those try to expand online gambling. One gambling analyst noted that in order for online gambling to go national, more states need to show serious interest.

“If more and more states would enact online gaming at the state level, I think at some point there would be more interest for a federal bill,” he said.

“The FBI has warned it will open the door to money laundering and other criminal activity,”

Las Vegas resident Pete Rose doesn't do the casino thing

07.16.2014     08:08 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
In a recent interview, Pete Rose claimed no one in the Reds' clubhouse knew he was betting on baseball. He also said that despite living in Las Vegas, he never goes to casinos.

“Baseball, to me, is a better game if I’m in it,” Rose said, repeating a line from a 2012 interview with WFAN’s Steve Somers. “Because of my passion for the game and for my love of young players, and for the way I like to develop young players. When I managed the Reds from ’84 to ’89, nobody in that clubhouse knew that I was making a bet. Nobody.”

“There are some people that think I’m wrong when I drive by a race track,” he said. “Drive by it. Don’t stop in it. OK? I’m not a casino gambler. And if you don’t believe me, just have someone follow me around. I go to work every day, I get off, I go get me a Subway salad, I go home and watch baseball on TV. (I) never go in a casino.”
