Thursday NFL Betting Consensus: Sportsbooks just became huge Arizona Cardinals fans

12.11.2014     02:16 PM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Here are the top consensus bets for tonight's NFL matchup between the Arizona Cardinals and St. Louis Rams courtesy of Bookmaker. Pretty intriguing storyline with the Rams bet from -2.5 to -5.5/-6. Takes a lot of "love" for a single event Week 15 side to cross multiple key numbers. The betting public though not as giddy with only 58% of bets placed on the home favorite. Also unique is 58% of the action on the under which if you’ve followed these pages know is a very rare occurrence. Note that the percentages are based on the number of bets made not total handle.

58.0% - St. Louis -5.5

57.9% - Under 40.5

75.1% - Arizona +205

College Football Betting Alert: Markets fade Spurrier, Gamecocks

12.11.2014     08:41 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
It's not too often you see anti-SEC money during the bowl season. Maybe and half point here or there if bettors sense conference affiliation inflation but for the most part the SEC is regarded as "bet on" in December and January. That however hasn't been the case for the Independence Bowl with Miami taking all of the early money for its matchup vs. South Carolina. The game opened pick 'em with the Hurricanes now -3 at most offshore sportsbooks (-3.5ev at CRIS). After losing three straight bowl games from 2008-10, the Gamecocks have won three straight. Likely some concerns though as to how much prep and effort will come from the SC side after very high preseason expectations and a dismal 6-6 (3-5 SEC) showing. That at Spurrier playing 36 holes a day.

NFL Gambling Alert: Sportsbooks adjust Carolina a field goal vs. Tampa Bay following Newton's injury

12.10.2014     02:19 PM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
WIth Cam Newton out following yesterday's car accident, the Carolina Panthers will start Derek Anderson vs. Tampa Bay. Prior to Newton's injury, the Panthers were 6-point favorites with a total of 43. Sportsbooks reopened the game -3 O/U 41.5. Anderson started in Week 1's 20-14 win over the Buccaneers in which he connected n 24-of-34 passes for 230 yards, 2 TDs, and no INTs.

NFL Handicapping: Betting markets say St. Louis Rams are ready for primetime

12.09.2014     02:15 PM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
One of the main storylines for Week 15 has been St. Louis' meteoric rise in the betting markets. The Rams have without question played one of the league's toughest schedules and answered the bell with pointspread covers in five of their last six. But not only are they favored against the NFC's current top seed, Arizona, but zoomed right past -2.5 and -3 to -3.5 and now as high as -4. Note that the current pointspread is a big jump when you look at the prices of St. Louis' home games this season:

-6 vs. Oakland
+8 vs. Denver
+6.5 vs. Seattle
+3.5 vs. San Francisco
+1.5 vs. Dallas
-3 vs. Minnesota

In the end it's a classic case of great record but fraudulent vs. poor record but gritty/tested. Last week bettors couldn't get enough of fading the Cardinals as they opened a pick 'em vs. Kansas City but closed +3 at home. And in typical Arizona fashion, an ugly performance but +2 turnover margin resulted in a 17-14 win.

NFL Betting News: Johnny Football gets the call vs. Cincinnati

12.09.2014     01:57 PM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
In the midst of trying to secure their first playoff berth since 2002, the Cleveland Browns have decided to play a little quarterback music chairs. A few weeks back, off of a loss, they considered a move to Johnny Manziel but decided against it. Following last week's loss to Indianapolis -- a game in which Brian Hoyer failed to hit 50% of his pass and threw two picks -- the team will now give Manziel a shot. He'll get the starting nod in Sunday's must-win vs. Cincinnati. The betting market's reaction? Crickets. Little to no movement following the accouncement.

"This decision is really not about Brian Hoyer or Johnny Manziel, it is about the Cleveland Browns. We are always going to make decisions that we feel are in the best interest of the team," Pettine said in a statement. "Brian has done everything that has been asked of him and he has done so as a true professional. ... We are trying to get the offense to perform at a higher level. Johnny has worked very hard to earn this opportunity and it will be very
