NFL Gambling Update: Sportsbooks post lines on remaining three games

10.10.2014     09:07 AM     Printer Friendly
UPDATE

Earlier this morning, CRIS posted lines on the three NFL games that were kept off the board due to "key" injuries. Tennessee will start quarterback Charlie Whitehurst against Jacksonville. The Titans opened -4 and were bet up to -5. No total yet. Calvin Johnson was downgraded to doubtful while Teddy Bridgewater is now probable. As a result, the Lions opened -1 but the Vikings have taken money and are now -1.5/-2 point favorites. And Arizona is still debating between quarterbacks Drew Stanton and Logan Thomas. Carson Palmer (shoulder) is unlikely to play. CRIS opened the Cardinals -2.5 and it was bet up to -3 with no total.

NFL Handicapping: Baltimore in search of more offensive balance

Baltimore -3.5 at Tampa Bay O/U 43.5

Following last week's play calling that featured 42 pass plays to just 15 rushes, the Baltimore Ravens are looking for a more balanced attack against Tampa Bay.

“Last week was the least amount of plays we’ve run in a game and least amount of time we’ve been on the field, and it was self-inflicted,” Kubiak said. “We were poor on third down, and if you’re poor on third down in this league, you’re not going to get snaps and you’re not going to stay on the field. I’m disappointed with last week – everything we did wasn’t good enough. But we’d like to be a balanced football team, and that’s not going to change.”

College Football Betting Preview: Texas Longhorns vs. Oklahoma Sooners

Texas vs. Oklahoma
Saturday, 9 am PT - ABC (Dallas)
CRIS Opener:
Oklahoma -14.5 O/U 48.5
CRIS Current: OKlahoma -14 O/U 47
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Oklahoma -18
Paul Stone's Recommendation: Under

The second Saturday in October means a number of things at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas. Big Tex will be slow talking fair-goers; fair-goers will be consuming tons of Fletcher's Corn Dogs and any other fried food imaginable; and the college football hatefest known as Texas-Oklahoma will take center stage in the middle of it all at the Cotton Bowl.

While this game often pits a pair of highly-ranked teams, 11th-ranked Oklahoma (4-1) saw its national playoff aspirations take a serious hit last Saturday in Fort Worth as TCU stunned the Sooners, 37-33. Texas (2-3), meanwhile, is unranked and experiencing significant growing pains on and off the field under first-year head coach Charlie Strong. The Read more

NFL Gambling: Sportsbook keep three games off the board due to injuries

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Amazing that it's Thursday afternoon and three NFL games are still not lined due to "key" injuries. Jacksonville-Tennessee is off the board due to the not-even-close-to-being important status of Jake Locker. Detroit's Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush remain questionable so no line of their game at Minnesota. Teddy Bridgewater was upgraded to probable. And Arizona doesn't know who will play quarterback vs. Washington. Drew Stanton (concussion) and Carson Palmer (shoulder) are both questionable.

Thursday Night Football Betting Consensus: Public all over Colts and the OVER

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Here are the top consensus bets (sides and totals) for tonight's college and pro football games courtesy of Bookmaker. Seems to be varying opinions on the Colts vs. Texans game with some shops offering +3-125/-120 or -2.5-120/-125. With BYU quarterback Taysom Hill out, bettors took the total down from 47 to 44.5. Note that the percentages are based on the number of bets made not total handle.

SIDES
81.0% - INDIANAPOLIS -3 vs. Houston
58.9% - UCF -3 vs. BYU

TOTALS
62.7% - OVER 46.5 Indianapolis-Houston
53.6% - OVER 44.5 BYU-UCF

NFL Handicapping: Penalties are up but it hasn't impacted totals

10.09.2014     01:14 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Despite the fact that penalties in the NFL are up over two per game compared to last season, oddsmakers and the betting markets have been quick to adjust as totals show just a small lean towards the over at 40-36 O/U. Most would associate the increase in penalties with the emphasis on defensive holding in the secondary. But through five weeks, 15 offensive touchdowns have been wiped out due to other infractions -- three of which on Seattle during last week's MNF game.

NFL Gambling Preview: Chicago Bears at Atlanta Falcons

Chicago at Atlanta
Sunday, 10 am PT - FOX
CRIS Opener:
Atlanta -3 O/U 54
CRIS Current: Atlanta -3 O/U 53.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Atlanta -3.5
Rob Veno's Recommendation: Over

Here’s a game that is just as attractive to fantasy football owners as it is to the handicapping/betting community. Obvious big play aerial components on each side but Chicago has better ability to create balance with the running Matt Forte. Offensive line injuries plaguing each of these teams the past couple weeks but Atlanta starting left guard Justin Blalock did return to practice Wednesday in limited participation. His presence would provide a significant boost. The Bears could also receive some much needed help as center Roberto Garza is practicing again after missing the last three games. Left tackle Jermon Bushrod who missed last week remains a concern as his knee/ankle injuries may keep him out again.
