College Football Handicapping: Fournette and McCaffrey pass on bowl games

12.19.2016     09:15 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Big name college football players continue to opt out of the postseason with LSU's Leonard Fournette and Stanford's Christian McCaffrey deciding health and the NFL is more important. For LSU, not having Fournette probably won't mean much considering Derrius Guice ran for 1.249 yards and nearly 8 yards per carry. McCaffrey's backup, Bryce Love, also put up big numbers (664 yards, 7.38 ypc). The concern though with Love is that he's carried the ball more than 12 times only once this season and the Cardinal like to run the ball 40+ times per game. Of course it may not matter who is running the ball considering Stanford's bowl opponent, North Carolina, ranks 113th nationally against the run (235.5 ypg allowed). Neither loss has impacted the pointspread with LSU holding at -3 (-115) vs. Louisville and Stanford -3.5 vs. North Carolina.

NFL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Philadelphia Eagles at Baltimore Ravens

Philadelphia at Baltimore
Sunday, 10 am PT - FOX
CRIS Opener:
Baltimore -6 O/U 42.5
CRIS Current: Baltimore -6 O/U 40
Recommendation: Baltimore

I’m getting a lousy vibe from the slumping Eagles, just 2-8 SU and ATS since their hot 3-0 start back in September.  Philly’s offense has been limited all year, and that hasn’t changed.  Rookie Carson Wentz has hit a wall, now that opposing coordinators have plenty of film to study.  Top RB Ryan Matthews is banged up; change of pace back and special teams maestro Darren Sproles is out, top WR Jordan Matthews is banged up and their offensive line is struggling in every way.

Defensively, the Eagles have gone downhill over the past month and a half.  They’ve notched only eight sacks in the last seven games, and have permitted at least two TD passes in eight of their last ten overall.  The Eagles scored another defensive touchdown last week against the Redskins, but they still lost and failed to cover the spread; a major ‘red flag’ moving forward.

And then there are the rumbles in the Read more

NFL Handicapping: Miami turns to backup quarterback Matt Moore

12.14.2016     10:02 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
With Ryan Tannehill (ACL) out, the Miami Dolphins will turn to Matt Moore who hasn't started an NFL game since 2011 and has fumbled 14 times in 13 games. But hey, Moore likes to chuck it down field. The Dolphins are currently -2.5 road favorites against the Jets for Saturday (not a typo).

“I know Matt will do whatever we need him to do to win a game,” Gase said. “He has a lot of ability, as far as being a down-the-field passer. I don’t think he ever gives himself credit for the fact that he sees coverage well. He can throw the ball underneath. He can throw the intermediate ball.

“I like the fact that he’s not afraid to scramble outside the pocket and kind of play a little looser than a lot of coaches like. I like it.”

NFL Gambling: Cleveland Browns still garnering attention from bettors

12.13.2016     09:12 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Betting on a historically bad NFL team continues to be a thing.

"Every week, it's the same thing," Ed Salmons, assistant manager at the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas, said Sunday afternoon. "We'll write a limit bet [on the Browns] by a wiseguy right at the gun."

"It's hard to be that bad and not cover," Salmons said of the Browns. "Because the spreads get so inflated, it's really hard not to cover."

NFL Gambling: Los Angeles Rams finally get around to firing Jeff Fisher

12.13.2016     07:06 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Nine games, one win, one pointspread cover, and finally a fired head coach. Jeff "I ran out of alligator blood" Fisher was shown the door with three games remaining. Special-teams coordinator John Fassel will step in the rest of the way.

"We looked like a middle school offense out there," running back Todd Gurley said after the loss, via ESPN.com. "I mean, I'm going to be quiet. My mom said if you don't have anything good to say, don't even say it. I'm just going to leave it as that."

"I don't," the running back replied. "I really don't. We're just going through the motions. It looks like everybody's just playing to get through."

NFL Gambling News: Kansas City Chiefs may be a good late season fade

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are starting to look like that scary team nobody wants to see in the playoffs. They’ve won and covered four straight and have surged ahead of Baltimore for top spot in the AFC North. The health of Ben Roethlisberger and Le’Veon Bell has played a role in the team’s recent run but the real storyline has been the defense. Pittsburgh has held each of its last two opponents (NY Giants and Buffalo Bills) to below 300 total yards and surrendered 20 or fewer points in all four victories. The Steelers have a very favorable schedule to wrap up the regular season with three very winnable divisional games. They’re currently -3 road favorites at near-dead Cincinnati on Sunday followed by two straight home games against Baltimore and Cleveland. Baltimore will likely be the toughest test of those three. Roethlisberger was very rusty in his first game back from injury (67.3 QB rating) when the Steelers fell to the Ravens in Baltimore, 21-14, back in Week 9. Pittsburgh has been a “bet on” team in both the public and sharp betting communities and they’ve rewarded both groups with an 8-5 ATS mark. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Read more
