NFL Gambling Preview: Denver Broncos at Indianapolis Colts

Denver at Indianapolis
Sunday, 1:30 pm PT - CBS
CRIS Opener:
Denver -3 O/U 45
CRIS Current: Denver -5.5 O/U 44.5
Recommendation: Indianapolis

There’s one key question to answer before we begin any handicap of the Colts-Broncos matchup on Sunday.  Did Andrew Luck find his missing mojo in the fourth quarter of Indy’s OT loss to Carolina on Monday Night?  If he did, the Colts may be live underdogs here.  If he didn’t, a Colts team that has significant personnel weaknesses on both sides of the football is primed to take another loss on Sunday.

Two weeks ago, the Colts looked lethargic and lifeless, falling behind New Orleans 27-0 at home.  Indy rallied late, thanks to three Luck TD passes, but there has to be an asterisk there – on two of the three TD passes, the Saints cornerback fell down on the play.  It’s surely worth noting that the same Saints defense that shut out Indy for three quarters proceeded to allow six TD passes from Eli Manning last week.

Then last week, in the rain at Carolina, Luck and the Colts offense produced a Read more

NFL Handicapping: New York Jets to start Fitzpatrick vs. Jacksonville

11.05.2015     07:50 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Despite a torn ligament in his non-throwing hand the New York Jets plan on starting Ryan Fitzpatrick for Sunday's game vs. Jacksonville. Geno Smith, who is also banged up with a bum shoulder, will be the backup. As of Thursday morning, there is still no line on the game.

"No limitations today," Fitzpatrick said. "Really, just kind of a trial run to see how it was going to feel and what the best way to do (things) going forward would be in terms of using it or not using it and all that. Today was a pretty positive day in that regard."

NFL Gambling News: Manziel to start vs. Cincinnati

11.04.2015     07:19 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
It's clear that Cleveland head coach Mike Pettine doesn't want Johnny Manziel under center as Josh McCown's corpse remains -- in Pettine's eyes -- the better option. But heading into Thursday's divisional game vs. Cincinnati, it looks as if Manziel will get the defacto nod with McCown (ribs) downgraded to doubtful. The Bengals have been bet up from -10.5 to -11 with the total down from 47.5 to 45.5.

"On the short week, we realized that Josh just wasn't going to be able to get to the point where he could go," Browns coach Mike Pettine said in a statement. "Johnny has worked hard to prepare himself. He is excited about his opportunity and we are all looking forward to the challenge."

NFL Handicapping: Colts fire offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton

11.04.2015     07:01 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Man, this Colts team is a mess. Offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton was the first to get the axe with Rob Chudzinski slated to take over. Indianapolis ranks 24th in yards per play (5.2) after averaging 5.8 last season. But at 3-0 in the worst division in the league, the Colts are likely going to trip, stumble, and fall into the playoffs. Bettors have been all over Denver for Sunday’s matchup in Indy. The Broncos opened -3 and have since been bet up to as high as -5.

"Because of this, we've decided to go in a different direction and relieve Pep Hamilton of his duties as offensive coordinator. As head coach of this team, it's my responsibility to make sure I'm doing everything we can to put us in the best position to succeed. We thank Pep for his service to the team and wish him all the best."

NFL Handicapping: Tennessee Titans fire Ken Whisenhunt

11.03.2015     07:59 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
College coaches, NFL coaches...no one is safe these days. The Tennessee Titans fired Ken Whisenhunt following the team's 1-6 start. Whisenhunt was 3-20 SU during his tenure. The Titans are a semi-respectable 3-4 ATS and have been outgained by 0.4 yards per play. Mike Mularkey will serve as interim head coach.

We saw Miami bounce back with a strong effort following the firing of Joe Philbin. Tennessee's situation though is a bit different as the Dolphins had a bye week to adjust whereas Tennessee has a game this week and uncertainty at the quarterback position with Marcus Mariota (knee) questionable.

For Sunday, the Titans travel to New Orleans. There is no line on the game due to Mariota's questionable status.

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wiseguy Report: Analyzing bye-less College Football teams

11.02.2015     10:16 AM     Teddy Covers     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Teddy Covers

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Seventeen college football teams enter November without having had a single bye week since the start of the season and without a bye this coming week.  Those teams are Arizona, Ball State, Boston College, Colorado, UConn, Eastern Michigan, Florida International, Hawaii, Louisiana Tech, Miami-Ohio, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Penn State, Texas Tech, Western Kentucky, Wisconsin and Wyoming.  Two more teams, North Texas and UMass, haven’t had byes since Week 1; teams that started their seasons a week late, but haven’t had a break since.  Is there anything unique or different about these non-bye squads?  Read on to find out.

Five of the 17 teams listed above don’t have any bye weeks at all.  Florida International, Miami-Ohio, Hawaii (with their 13 game schedule!), Arizona and Colorado will finish the season without a break.  Note that none of those five are going to play in a conference championship game, and only two (Arizona and FIU) have any realistic shot to make a bowl game.  Bye-less teams don’t tend to be very successful.  Most importantly for our purposes, they also don’t tend to cover many pointspreads Read more

College Football Betting: Teams cash tickets following coaching departures

11.02.2015     07:52 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Add Hawaii's Norm Chow to the list of college football coaches that have been either fired, resigned, or retired this season. With the exception of UCF, teams have responded fairly strong against the spread following their respective coaching changes. Let's take a look...

Minnesota - Jerry Kill was forced to step down due to health reasons and the Golden Gophers responded with a big effort in a near-upset win over Michigan. Minny easily cover +10.5 but a wild goalline finish gave the Wolverines the 29-26 victory.

Miami - No Al Golden and no Brad Kaaya didn't stop the Hurricanes from pulling off the "upset" at Duke. They in no way deserved to win the game, but easily cashed +10 for their backers.

UCF - The Golden Knights have shown no fight following George O'Leary's departure. Two weeks ago, at home, they were crushed by Houston 59-10 and then last week, a similar outcome in a 52-7 loss at Cincinnati.

South Carolina - The Gamecocks have notched back-to-back pointspread covers following Steve Spurrier's resignation.

USC - After a decent Read more
