College Football Gambling Preview: Stanford Cardinal at Oregon Ducks

Stanford at Oregon
Andrew Lange’s Recommendation:
Oregon
Saturday, 5 pm PT – ABC
CRIS Opener:
Oregon -21.5 O/U 65
CRIS Current: Oregon -20.5 O/U 64.5
Rob Veno’s Power Rating: Oregon -22

A few weeks back I marked down in my notes to play against Stanford when they face up-tempo offenses. I did this on the heels of their overtime win over Arizona. In that game, the Cardinal were absolutely gashed defensively as the Wildcats rolled up 617 yards. Stanford was completely gassed in the second half as the Wildcats did whatever they wanted offensively. Since that time, Stanford has faced nothing but sub-par and/or pro-style offenses – the exact profile that their defense has historically thrived against.

Temple at Army
Army opened -1.5 now -3

Anti-Temple bettors are going to the window one more time and who can blame them. Temple has lost its last four games straight up and against the spread. In fact they haven't even been in a ball game for quite some time. It seems that the offensive line has problems with protection, they have a two-headed quarterback monster rotation, and running back Montel Harris has failed to produce. Harris was knocked out of their last game versus Cincinnati but is listed as probable for this game. Army is no bargain either with its 85th ranked defense.

BYU at San Jose State
BYU opened -6, now -3.5

Whether you like BYU as a team, their power rating, defense, or simply for the fact that the average age on their roster is older than any team in college football, you should not back them here because they have already accepted a bowl bid. BYU will play in the Poinsettia Bowl in beautiful San Diego, California. This team travels well, huge family/fans support and one would have to think a there are plenty of preparations going on rather than worrying about quarterback Read more

College Football Gambling: Oregon State QB situation remains unknown

California at Oregon State

Oregon State head coach Mike Riley has yet to commit to a quarterback for Saturday's matchup against Cal. Cody Vaz sprained his ankle in last week's loss to Stanford and according to Sports Options is doubtful. And Sean Mannion is still not fully healed from mid-season knee surgery.

As for Cal, Zach Maynard, who missed last week, remains doubtful. His back-up, Allan Bridgford, colpmeted 9-of-21 passes for 113 yards, 1 TD and 2 INT in last week's 59-17 loss to Oregon. The Golden Bears appear to be in towel-tossing mode failing to win or cover each of their last four games.

College Football ATS Analysis: Utah State takes early money vs. Louisiana Tech

11.12.2012     07:36 AM     Printer Friendly
Utah State -3 at Louisiana Tech

Game of the Year in the WAC this weekend with Utah State traveling to Louisiana Tech. Both teams come in with a perfect 4-0 mark in conference play. The Aggies sport the best spread record in college football at 10-0 ATS. They've also been a strong UNDER squad at 2-7 O/U. Tech and its high-flying offense haven't been able to fly under the radar with the betting markets, failing to cover three straight contests. The Bulldogs however have been nearly automatic to the OVER at 9-1 O/U.

From an ACCU-Stat perspective, Utah State holds strong advantages across the board.

And early on, USU has been the preferred betting choice. CRIS opened Louisiana Tech -1 but Utah State is now a field goal favorite at most shops.

Southern Miss at SMU -14.5 O/U 51.5
Recommendation: SMU

June Jones Mustangs won eight games last year, including a 28-6 blowout over Pitt in the Compass Bowl. They were a seven win bowl team in 2010 and an eight win bowl team in 2009. At 4-5, SMU can’t afford another loss and they’ve got the late season schedule to have a shot at earning their fourth consecutive bowl berth. This is a prime bounceback spot for the Mustangs – stepping down in class, against an opponent that has already thrown in the towel on the worst season in program history!

SMU opened the season as a popular wiseguy choice in a TV game against Baylor. The line moved 5+ points towards SMU closing at +7, but the Mustangs got crushed 59-24. The wiseguys fell in love with SMU again when they faced Texas Tech two weeks later, driving the line all the way down to SMU +10. Again, June Jones’ squad failed to step up in class in an even uglier 48-3 defeat. The Mustangs also Read more

College Football Gambling Preview: Penn State Nittany Lions at Nebraska Cornhuskers

Andrew Lange's Recommendation:

CRIS Opener:
Nebraska -8 O/U 53
CRIS Current: Nebraska -8.5 O/U 52

Last week's game against Purdue ended a string of four straight OVERS for Penn State. The Nittany Lions did their part; 34 points, 506 total yards and 75 offensive plays. And quietly, we've been seeing that type of production out of Penn State for the better part of two months. In its last five games, PSU has averaged 33.8 ppg, 439.2 ypg and an amazing 84 plays per game. As odd as it sounds, Penn State is an up-tempo football team.

In Big Ten play, Nebraska averages 443 ypg which is second behind only Ohio State. Also consider that the Cornhuskers haven't been able to feast on some of the weak defenses in the conference. Of the five worst stop units in the league from a yards per game allowed perspective, NU has faced only one (Northwestern) and Read more

College Football Betting Preview: West Virginia Mountaineers at Oklahoma State Cowboys

West Virginia at Oklahoma State
Ian Cameron’s Recommendation:
Oklahoma State
Saturday, 12:30 pm PT – ESPN2
CRIS Opener:
Oklahoma State -7.5 O/U 79
CRIS Current: Oklahoma State -9.5 O/U 79
Rob Veno’s Power Rating: Oklahoma State -6

West Virginia suffered a pair of blowout losses to Texas Tech and Kansas State prior to its bye week. They regrouped off the bye and put forth one of their best defensive efforts of the season against TCU last week but it still wasn’t enough as the Mountaineers allowed a victory to slip away when they inexplicably gave up a 94-yard TD to the Horned Frogs with 1:28 left to tie the game. WVU eventually lost 39-38 in overtime. It was a demoralizing loss and I don’t think they will find it easy to bounce back for this week’s Big XII showdown in Stillwater against Oklahoma State.

After a hot start to the season, Geno Read more
