NFL Handicapping: Bills' defense attempts to slow down Patriots

09.22.2011     06:49 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
New England -8 at Buffalo O/U 53.5

Buffalo's defense feels that its previous results against New England are irrelevant because of new personnel. They had better hope so considering the Patriots racked up 72 points in last year’s two meetings. The Pats have topped 30 points in 10 straight regular season games dating back to last season.

"I think we’re a little bit different on defense this year," said Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams. "We’re playing things a little bit differently. We’ve added a couple players. But I think mostly our fits are a little bit different."

"You know they’re going to make some yards," Bills coach Chan Gailey said. "You’re trying to make sure you don’t give up the big play. You’re trying to Read more

NFL Week 2 Gambling Previews by Fairway Jay

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
We enter Week 2 off a 3-1 Sunday and look to duplicate or even improve on our results with the experience and stats of Week 1 games to analyze and review. Many bettors and especially the public overreact to Week 1 results with the influence of a good or bad performance from just one week of action impacting their decisions. With so much excitement and anticipation for the season, you’re wise to temper your enthusiasm and understand both the good and bad breaks that can happen in the NFL. After all, we suffered the toughest total loss in Week 1 action when incredibly the 49ers and Seahawks went over the total after two horrible offensive performances. They combined for just 26 points and less than 370 yards through 54 minutes of action before the meltdown.

On to Week 2 and here are some thoughts and analysis, along with ATS situations that may help you to play on, against or perhaps pass on a game based on information you may not have known.

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Week 2 of the NFL season will always brings back good memories and a smile to my face. I invariably receive plenty of emails, phone calls, text message and positive greetings when I’m out and about in Las Vegas talking with other sports fans and bettors that are Fairway Followers and supporters of Sportsmemo and the radio show. In Week 2 of the 2009 NFL season, I bet and released the biggest NFL card of my professional handicapping career. I released 10 plays to my personal clients and went a perfect 10-0! I also provided a game write-up on every single game and posted the analysis for the entire public to see prior to Sunday’s kickoff. The past link to those game write-ups is right here for your review, along with the selections I provided that week below.

Saints (-1)...Win 48-22
Rams (+9.5)...Win 7-9
NY Jets (+3.5)...Win 16-9

Offshore and Las Vegas sportsbooks currently differing in opinion on tonight's MNF contest between New England and Miami. Nearly every significant offshore book has the Patriots -7 while a majority of Vegas is currently showing -7.5. A little lone wolf however by the Wynn who has yet to move off its opener of 7.

NFL Pointspread Preview: New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins

New England at Miami (4pm PT – ESPN)
CRIS Opening Line: New England -4 O/U 46
CRIS Current Line: New England -7 O/U 46
Rob Veno Power Rating: New England -5
Teddy Covers Power Rating: New England -6.5

Betting Take: If there is one thing the betting markets like it's Tom Brady and those amazing New England Patriots. Most of the offshore world currently showing -7 but Vegas residents interested in the underdog should have no trouble finding +7.5. Just as a comparison to some of last year's pointspreads, New England was -5 in Week 1 at Cincinnati, +1 at Miami in Week 4 and a modest -5 at home against Minnesota in Week 8. Miami meanwhile was a home underdog just once (+3 vs. Pittsburgh) last season and Read more

Philadelphia -3 at New York Jets O/U 36

Danny Watkins is expected to be the only starting offensive lineman to play in Thursday's preseason finale at the New York Jets. "I asked for it," Watkins said. The question is whether the rookie right guard beat his coaches to the punch. Watkins has struggled in three preseason games, and there's only one more game opportunity before the season opener Sept. 11. Center Jason Kelce, also a rookie, isn't expected to play Thursday. NFL Handicapping: Bettors jump on New England Week 1 at Miami

08.19.2011     01:39 PM     Printer Friendly
Following New England's 31-14 win over Tampa Bay last night, the betting markets reacted in a big way, taking the Patriots from 5.5-point road favorites to -6.5 and even -7 at some sportsbooks (Jazz, Caesars) for their regular season Week 1 game against Miami.

Just as a comparison to some of last year's pointspreads, New England was -5 in Week 1 at Cincinnati, +1 at Miami in Week 4 and a modest -5 at home against Minnesota in Week 8. Miami meanwhile was a home underdog just once (+3 vs. Pittsburgh) last season and was favored over both the New York Jets and as mentioned the Patriots. The Dolphins however were outscored 79-21 in both meetings against New England. Line history courtesy of CRIS.

NFL Preseason Betting Notes: Garrard unlikely to play, Gabbert slated to start

Jacksonville at New England -3.5 O/U 35

Jacksonville head coach Jack Del Rio said that quarterback David Garrard will likely not play in the team's preseason opener at New England on Thursday. Rookie Blaine Gabbert will get the start followed by Luke McCown and Todd Bouman.

“I’m just going out there looking to improve,” Gabbert said. “Those reps are going to be extremely valuable on film, after the game, just to kind of see what was going on. It will be the first live game I’ve been in in this league. It will be fun. There will be mistakes made. We just have to learn from those and correct them the next week.”

Del Rio on Tuesday also said running back Maurice Jones-Drew and defensive end Aaron Read more

Eagles now co-Super Bowl favs with Patriots and Packers

08.02.2011     09:25 AM     Printer Friendly
Following the aqusition of Nnamdi Asomugha, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Cullen Jenkins and Jason Babin, Philadelphia's odds to win Super Bowl XLVI plummeted from 12-1 to 6-1 at Las Vegas' Hilton Sportsbook. New England and Green Bay are also 6-1. Bettors interested in the Eagles can find better odds offshore with prices ranging from +850 to +1000.
