NFL Gambling Preview: Houston Texans at Denver Broncos

CRIS Current: Houston -2 O/U 46
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Houston -1

The exhibition season is officially over for the Texans after playing “warm-up” games against Miami and Jacksonville.  You can only play who’s on your schedule, and the Texans are now 2-0, but the test is much tougher this week against Denver.  The Texans pride themselves on their tremendous condition as a team, and with the Broncos off a Monday night affair, the Mile High conditions should be neutralized.  While holding the Jaguars to a franchise best 117 total yards last week, the Texans will feature a similar game plan in trying to control the clock.  The Texans ran the ball 48 times last week, which included over 43 minutes of possession time.  They are as complete and Read more

College Football Gambling Preview: Clemson Tigers at Florida State Seminoles

Saturday, 5 pm PT - ABC
CRIS Opener:
Florida State -12 O/U 55.5
CRIS Current: Florida State -14 O/U 57
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Florida State -8.5

The biggest game of the week takes place at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee between ACC title contenders Clemson and Florida State. Clemson won last year’s meeting 35-30 at home and have notched wins against Auburn, Ball State, and Furman. It’s more than fair to say that Florida State hasn’t been tested at all so far. They routed a pair of FCS teams, Savannah State and Murray State, followed by a 52-0 shutout over powerless Wake Forest.

This will be the first true test of the season for the Seminoles as the Clemson offense features a great quarterback and multiple skill position weapons. Tajh Boyd has thrown for 747 yards, with 6 TDs and just 1 INT. They Read more

NFL Gambling News: Arizona claims New England was tipping plays

09.19.2012     12:36 PM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Interesting that Arizona came out after its win over New England and said that the Patriots were tipping plays on offense. Kudos for spotting it but why in the world would you admit it to the media? Put it up on Cragislist or something, "Secret Tip on How to Beat New England, 100% Guaranteed – $1.2 million, Phoenix, Ariz."

“We knew that whenever [Aaron] Hernandez was in tight, it was going to be a run, so we had a run check,” Horton told Arizona Sports 620 Tuesday. “But when he got hurt, it screwed that up because they went to three wide receivers. What they did, and we figured out real quick was, whenever Tom Brady was under the center, they were going to run the ball and whenever he was in the shotgun, they were going to pass the ball. We told our players ‘Hey, make the run check if Tom Brady’s under the center. If he’s in the gun, go to the pass check.’

“They handled it beautifully, and so we had dual calls that basically what we were telling them is we know when

NFL Handicapping: Arizona Cardinals will start Kolb vs. New England

09.13.2012     12:14 PM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Arizona at New England -13.5 O/U 48.5

The Arizona Cardinals said that Kevin Kolb will start Sunday's game at New England. According to ESPN, this information came from "league sources" and team president Michael Bidwell, not head coach Ken Whisenhunt. Maybe Whisenhunt is trying to do his best Bill Belichick impression or maybe he spotted Kolb's horrific track record on the road (3-6, 64.8 rating, 6 TDs, 10 INTs) and wants to weigh all of his options. The problem is he doesn't have many with John Skelton out because of an ankle injury.

College Football Betting Preview: Iowa State Cyclones at Iowa Hawkeyes

Iowa State at Iowa
Teddy Covers' Recommendation:
Iowa State
Saturday, 12:30 pm PT - Big Ten Network
CRIS Opener:
Iowa -4.5 O/U 47
CRIS Current: Iowa -3.5 O/U 49
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Iowa -6.5

There’s not a lot to like about Iowa this year. The Hawkeyes program has been in steady decline since their shocking run to the Orange Bowl following the 2009 season. Head coach Kirk Ferentz is no longer able to attract NFL level recruits the way that he did for many of his previous 13 seasons on the job. The Hawkeyes didn’t reach the end zone against rebuilding Northern Illinois until the final two minutes of the game last week, escaping with a one point victory over a mid-tier MAC squad. An offensive line that has regularly sent graduated to the NFL doesn’t appear to have any NFL caliber talent in 2012.

This team lacks offensive playmakers as well, and QB James Vandenberg Read more

College Football Gambling Preview: Auburn Tigers at Mississippi State Bulldogs

Auburn at Mississippi State
Brent Crow's Recommendation:
Saturday, 9 am PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Mississippi State -2.5 O/U 48
CRIS Current: Mississippi State -3 (-105) O/U 47
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Mississippi State -4

Auburn comes in off a tough 26-19 loss to Clemson while Mississippi State had a much easier time against Jackson State, winning 56-9. We should find out much more about Mississippi State this week against a quality opponent, but they should hold up well against the Tigers. Auburn struggled to stop the run against Clemson, allowing 320 yards on 52 attempts, and also gave up 208 yards passing. The only positive with Auburn’s stop unit was in the red zone as they held Clemson to four field goals. They did however allow Clemson to convert on 8-of-17 third downs and pick up 28 first downs. On offense, Auburn ran the ball fairly well with 180 yards, but the passing Read more

Washington at LSU
Ian Cameron's Recommendation:
Saturday, 4 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
LSU -23 O/U 56
CRIS Current: LSU -24 O/U 53
Rob Veno's Power Rating: LSU -23.5

Washington makes a rare trip to the East Coast to play LSU in a big non-conference clash on Saturday night on ESPN. The last meeting between these teams took place in 2009 in Seattle with LSU winning 31-23.

The Washington offense enters this game off a mediocre performance in Week 1’s win over San Diego State. Quarterback Keith Price and the offense saw multiple drives stall in Aztecs territory and the offense only accounted for 14 of the team's 21 points. They'll be facing a vaunted LSU defense but maybe not one that was adequately tested by North Texas last week. I think the door is open for Washington to have at least a decent showing on offense as one of the few weaknesses defensively for the Tigers is their Read more

NFL Preseason Betting: New England Patriots may play starters

08.29.2012     06:09 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
New England -1.5 at -New York Giants- O/U 41

According to the Boston Herald, there is a chance New England's starters could see some time tonight against the Giants.

“Yeah, he was big on those game-plan scenarios,” Evans said of Belichick. “But Bill’s Bill. Nothing ever surprises me. So I would expect (the starters) to play some.”

“Absolutely,” Evans said. “Bill wants to fix problems. So I would expect him to play the guys, let them work out what he wants them to work out. You still have Friday, Saturday, Sunday (to) rest. He can rest them like they had a bye week.”

Getting to Know the CFL from a Betting Perspective

Submitted by ICC blog entry.
As part of “Ian Cameron Capping” here at Sportsmemo, I will be providing Canadian Football League service for the remainder of the 2012 season. The CFL offers an under-the-radar betting opportunity that can be beaten with regularity by anyone willing to put in the work and the time to do so. I have a documented personal betting record of 15-10 for +9.52 units of profit so far this season using the same Sportsmemo 1, 1.5 and 2 unit betting scale. That includes a perfect 4-0 record on 2-unit best bets which are better known as 20* plays here at Sportsmemo.

With six weeks of the regular season already in the books, I felt I would take the opportunity to have my debut blog here at Sportsmemo be about what has taken place so far in the CFL season from a team by team perspective. I’ll include each team’s SU and ATS records as well as their Over/Under results. We’ll start with the teams in the East Division and then shift our focus to the West.

East Division

Hamilton Tiger-Cats (3-2 SU, 4-1 ATS, 5-0 O/U)
