NBA Gambling: Warriors and Cavaliers Conference Finals series favorites

05.18.2015     02:35 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The NBA Conference Finals are set with action getting underway on Tuesday. In the Western Conference, Golden State takes on Houston. The Warriors, who have homecourt advantage, are around a -850 series favorite (Rockets +600) and a -10 favorite for Tuesday's Game 1. In the Eastern Conference, the top seed Atlanta Hawks own homecourt advantage but find themselves series underdogs. The Cleveland Cavaliers are currently -200 to -215 series favorites (Hawks +175/+180). Interestingly, the Hawks are Game 1 chalk with most offshore shops offering -1 or -1.5.

Pinnacle's NBA Championship Futures Odds
Golden State -179
Cleveland +296
Atlanta +1018
Houston +1400

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wiseguy Report: Golden State Warriors primed to win NBA title

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
We’re down to the Final Four in the NBA Playoffs, but the path to a championship is crystal clear for only one team – the favorite (and favored for a reason) – Golden State.  Why do the Warriors have such a significant edge over the remaining field?  I’ve identified five reasons, breaking them down in detail in this week’s Wiseguy Report.

The Warriors opened in the -850 range in their Western Conference Finals series against the Rockets, as big of a favorite as you’ll ever see in any third round playoff series.  The first reason to like Golden State’s chances to win the title is that their path just to reach the Finals is easier than any other team’s path based on the price alone. The Rockets are big underdogs in this series, and the Cavs are only in the -200 to -220 range against Atlanta in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Secondly, the Warriors are as healthy as any team remaining in the field.  The Cavs lost Kevin Love in the first round of the playoffs, then watched Kyrie Irving come up lame in the second round.  Atlanta lost designated LeBron-stopper Thabo Sefolosha to a season Read more

NBA Handicapping: Golden State not looking for a free throw fest

05.18.2015     09:00 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
If you were paying attention you probably noticed there were a handful of free throw attempts during the Clippers-Rockets series. And by handful we mean 71.8 per game. Yes, most of the series was played at a fast pace but the Hack-A-Dude mentality played a fairly significant part in six of the seven games going over the total. But heading into the Western Conference Finals, it doesn't sound as if Golden State is going to play that game.

“Our team is all about rhythm and flow, and fouling stops the game. We want the game to go,” Kerr said. “We like our pace. That’s one of the reasons I haven’t done it. I won’t rule it out, but I wouldn’t expect a whole lot of it.

“We trust our defense. We think we can get stops. We want to get out and run and let the game flow, but it’s always there. You know, everything is different in the playoffs. You have to have every option at your disposal.”

NBA Gambling: Rockets rally past Clippers, force improbable Game 7

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
How many of you saw this coming? Left for dead following back-to-back blowout losses, the Houston Rockets took advantage of one of the biggest meltdowns in postseason history and find themselves a home game away from reaching the Western Conference Finals. The Rockets somehow outscored the Clippers 40-15 in the fourth quarter last night. It puts bettors is a difficult position for Sunday's Game 7. The markets still feel LA is the better team, hence the -1.5/-2 road chalk price. But how do you bounce back from having an 19-point lead late in the third quarter...on your home floor? The in-game line line history from that game was absolutely crazy. At their peak, the Clips were -17.5 whereas the last line on Houston was -14.5.

“We never stopped believing,” Dwight Howard said after his 20 point, 21 rebound performance. “Our faith was tested all night, as it has been all series, but we kept it together.”

“We were trying to run the clock out, and we stopped playing, and

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
According to reports there's a small chance John Wall will play. With the series tied 2-2, Atlanta is an 8-point favorite for tonight's Game 5.

"He's moving in the right direction," Wizards coach Randy Wittman said. "The swelling is down again. Minimal swelling. He wanted to dribble the ball a little bit. Get the feel of it here."

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wiseguy Report: Wizards and Grizzlies have been postseason ATS darlings

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The 2014 NBA Playoffs were something of an exception to the rule, because there were no red hot pointspread runs to open the playoffs.  In most years, one or two teams stand out as postseason pointspread overachievers as the playoffs begin.  This year, for example, we’ve got two of them – the Memphis Grizzlies and the Washington Wizards, a combined 12-3 ATS through the first two rounds.

I first really began paying serious attention to this phenomenon in 2009, when the Denver Nuggets opened up the playoffs on a 12-0 ATS run (11-0-1 ATS for some).  My clients and I were onboard for 11 of those 12 ATS victories; and I vowed to look for and find similar teams in the future – teams that hit their stride in late April after being widely overlooked by both bookmakers and bettors at the start of the postseason for whatever reason.

In 2010, Orlando swept their first two opponents in the playoffs, going 7-0-1 ATS in the process. The Phoenix Suns were also major moneymakers, going 8-2 ATS before running into the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals.  2011 saw the Dallas Mavericks open up the playoffs by cashing at a Read more

NBA Handicapping: Clippers getting bet despite Paul's questionable status

05.08.2015     07:58 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
More injury related betting market moves as the Los Angeles Clippers have jumped from -2.5 to -4.5 for tonight's Game 3 matchup vs. Houston. Chris Paul (hamstring) practiced yesterday but is still listed as a game-time decision. The series is tied 1-1.

"My guess is it's going to come down to the eye and a feel test, the eye test by us and our trainer and then how he feels," Rivers said during a conference call with reporters. "I think with hamstrings, there really is no gauge, so I think that's what we're going to look for."
