NCAAF Betting Notes: Cincinnati turns to dual-threat quarterback Legaux

11.14.2011     01:24 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Cincinnati -3 at Rutgers

Cincinnati quarterback Zach Collaros is out for the rest of the season after breaking his ankle in last week's loss to West Virginia. The Bearcats (3-1) remain atop the Big East standings but a host of other teams enter the week only a half-game back.  Munchie Legaux will take over for Collaros the rest of the way. Legaux finished 10-of-21 for 144 yards and an interception against the Mountaineers. He's not as polished a passer as Collaros, but was recruited as more of a dual-threat – 77 yards on the ground vs. WVU. According to Cinci's coaches, they plan to open up the offense even more to accommodate Legaux's skill set.

"Probably we'll open it up," he said. "That may seem hard to imagine, but we may open it up because not only can he throw the football, Read more

List of BCS Conference football teams playing their final home games of the regular season this week. We'll do the small conferences tomorrow. Home teams listed first.

Mississippi vs. LSU -28.5 - Any thought that the Rebels might rally around Houston Nutt were squashed last week when Louisiana Tech strolled into Oxford and dominated start to finish.

Georgia -28 vs. Kentucky - Georgia one win away from a trip to the SEC Championship.

Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt -1.5 - Some may be shocked to see Vanderbilt favored in this spot but the statistics tell of Read more

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Fairway Jay took the time to talk with poker website QuadJacks.com this past Friday. Recognized as a top professional sports handicapper, Jay is also a proven poker player.

His interview with Quad Jacks covered football, handicapping and betting strategies, NBA lockout, Penn State scandal and more. Listen to Jay’s insight and analysis along with some thoughts on upcoming games right here.

Jay lives in Las Vegas and has played in and covered many poker tournaments including the World Series of Poker (WSOP), Epic Poker League, NBC Heads-Up Championship and numerous other local poker tournaments. He was also invited to participate in the LA Poker Classic Celebrity Tournament in 2011.

“Fairway Jay” Ginsbach is a public sports handicapper, writer and commentator, from the Las Vegas sports betting news site SportsMemo.com. He returns to QuadJacks Poker Radio to gracefully – and loquaciously – reveal his thoughts on football betting and handicapping strategies and considerations. We also touch on the NBA lockout issue and the major controversy of the Penn State University sex scandal.

Also note that Fairway Jay will appear on Las Vegas’ FOX5 News tonight at 10:30 pm PT. He’ll be talking NFL on the Sports Plus segment with Jon Castagnino. Sports from a Vegas perspective no doubt.

NCAAF Handicapper Free Play: Arizona State Sun Devils at Washington State Cougars

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Arizona State -11.5 at Washington State O/U 60.5
Recommendation: Under

The Sun Devils might have to just go by the Devils tonight because the weather will be the total opposite of sunny in Pullman tonight.  In fact, Arizona State may have to bring its snow shoes. The weather report is calling for 33 degrees to start the game with snow or snow showers and wind.  This will give us a strong head start to siding with the UNDER in this contest.  In addition, it’s sweet to have the hard hitting Arizona State defense on our side.  The defense felt they let the team down last week against UCLA by allowing the winning drive.  Look for the defense to play with a chip on their shoulder this week.  Arizona State has also relied on the run of late, and with the conditions looking look for a ton of Cameron Marshal in the game plan.  Meanwhile, the quick strike and high scoring offense the Cougars showed early against Idaho Read more

College Football Handicapping: Minnesota simplifies playbook, actually scores points

11.11.2011     11:48 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Wisconsin -27 at Minnesota O/U 63.5

Nice little tidbit on the offensive adjustments Minnesota made during its mid-October bye week. They were blasted on the road against Nebraska but returned home and upset Iowa and then nearly did the same at Michigan State – all the while moving the ball at a fairly decent rate. According to the coaches, the Golden Gophers all but did away with the playbook, relying instead on a keep-it-simple-stupid formula. Quarterback MarQueis Gray, who earlier in the year looked completely overwhelmed with running an offense, has actually looked the part of late. The last two weeks, he averaged 11.4 and 9.2 yards per attempt with four touchdowns and 61% completions.

"We had so much in there, we weren't good at anything. As a staff, we kind of had a heart-to-heart and said, we don't have anything we execute well," Read more

CBB Handicapper Free Pick: Wofford Terriers at Georgia Bulldogs

11.11.2011     11:26 AM     Alatex Sports     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Alatex Sports

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Wofford at Georgia -11 O/U 128.5
Recommendation: Georgia

Wofford lost former Southern Conference Player of the Year Noah Dahlman as well three other players who received league honors: Tim Johnson, Cameron Rundles and Jamar Diggs. The Terriers also lost key backups in Terry Martin to graduation as well as Nathan Parker; an expected starter who transferred to NAIA Pikeville (Ky.) College. Only two of the top eight scorers from a year ago, starting point guard Brad Loesing and wing Kevin Giltner, return this season. In all, the Terriers are missing 66 ppg and 23 rpg from last year and will be counting on some of their eight freshmen to fill valuable minutes. Georgia also lost some key players, including Travis Leslie, Trey Thompkins and Jeremy Price, but the Bulldogs will not be as young as Wofford. The senior backcourt of Gerald Robinson and Dustin Ware are back, and that gives them a good start. They have also signed a couple of very highly touted recruits over the Read more

Handicapper Fairway Jay primed for a monster college basketball season

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
College basketball has arrived and one of the most profitable times of the season is upon us for serious sports bettors. While we continue to provide pointspread prognosis in football with November Knockout, rivalry games, upcoming bowl games and our annual profit in second half of the NFL season, note that there will be no greater time in the college basketball season to take advantage of the softest lines of the season. Following a profit-producing October in college and pro football, we look for more winning action during our favorite time of the sports seasons as college basketball begins.

Over the next 14 days, there will be nearly 400 college basketball games on the betting board. That includes some of the holiday tournaments over Thanksgiving. You see, once we hit the college conference schedule, you’ll see over 40% of the game results land within five points of the betting line. That’s not the case over the first 4-6 weeks of the season, as the oddsmaker puts out hundreds of lines on the games and tries to make adjustments based on preseason power ratings and results that are not as realistic. More than any other time of the college basketball season, Read more

College Basketball Free Play: Oregon Ducks at Vanderbilt Commodores

Oregon +12.5 at Vanderbilt O/U 149
Recommendation: Oregon

The Oregon program had a long, steady decline throughout the back end of the Ernie Kent era.  However, it didn’t take Dana Altman long to change the basketball culture in Eugene.  A Ducks team that was picked to finish dead last in the conference prior to the season instead finished with seven conference victories.  They got an invite to the postseason CBI tournament and went on to win the whole thing.  Then, over the summer the team was buoyed by the addition of star Oakland guard Jabari Brown and a trio of transfers (from Minnesota, Wake Forest and Louisiana Tech) two of whom are immediately eligible. They enjoyed a wildly successful summer trip to Italy; a deep, confident team as they travel to Nashville for their season opener.

Vanderbilt will be playing Read more

Isolating College Football pointspread winners using running game success

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
We cashed our 20* College Football Game of the Year winner last Saturday when Virginia (-2.5) steamrolled Maryland 31-13 with 220 rushing yards and 527 total yards offense. The Cavaliers dominance at the point of attack while outrushing Maryland by at least a 2-to-1 margin played out perfectly in Virginia’s victory.

If you’ve been following along the past few months and reading my articles, you’re aware that I’ve discussed and reviewed running game success in college football. If you’re able to handicap a game and determine that one team will have a significant advantage at the point of attack and outrush their opponent by margin, you’re well on your way to producing more profit and building your bankroll. Teams that outrush their opponent by at least a 2-to-1 margin have won just over 78% ATS this season (sample size over 230 games). This is no fluke, as last season produced very similar overall rushing results, with a 74% ATS win rate four our parameters (sample size nearly 300 games).

In MAC play this week, we delivered our third straight Tuesday night college football winner when Northern Illinois steamrolled Read more
