College Football Betting Update: Georgia Tech moves forward with new DC

UPDATE

Boston College at Georgia Tech -14

Georgia Tech used its bye week to try to adjust to newly appointed defensive coordinator Charles Kelly. Kelly has been with the Yellow Jackets for seven years, serving as the team's defensive backs coach. It doesn't look like there will be any drastic changes in terms of style.

“This game, it’s not very complicated,” he said. “There’s no magical defense. If there was, everybody would be running the same thing. It comes down to players and first of all alignment, putting your eyes in the right place and being able to play fast on every snap.

“Alignment, pursuit angles, tackling, beating

College Football Gambling: Miami's Morris expected to miss Florida State game

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Florida State -17.5 at Miami (FL)

Miami quarterback Stephen Morris sprained his ankle in last week's loss to North Carolina and is currently listed as "doubtful" for Saturday's game against Florida State. Head coach Al Golden said the Hurricanes will game plan as if Ryan Williams will start. Williams came in for Morris and completed 9-of-13 passes for 80 yards.

"We'll assess (the situation) as the week unfolds, but we're going in with the thinking Ryan is going to be the guy," Golden said. "Ryan's very bright and took a lot of reps in the spring. He'll have to rely on that now.”

College Football Betting: Ohio State desperate for defensive turnaround

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Purdue at Ohio State -17

Nothing wrong with Ohio State's offense as it hung 115 points on Nebraska and Indiana the last two weeks. Defensively is where the Buckeyes have concerns. Lack of depth and injuries were on full display last Saturday as OSU allowed 35 second half points to the Hoosiers. Of the nation’s 10 remaining undefeated teams, Ohio State has the worst total defense (71st, 400 ypg). Perhaps an opportunity to bounce back with Purdue coming to town. In two Big Ten games, the Boilermakers have netted just 27 points on 3.88 yards per play.

Ohio State's Big Ten Rankings - Defense
Scoring Defense - 8th, 24.6 ppg
Total Defense - 10th, 400.0 ypg
Yards per Play - 9th, 5.49
Passing Defense - 12th, 277.7 ypg
Passing Yards per Attempt - t-8th, 6.5

Sportsmemo's College Football Week 7 Betting Recap

10.15.2012     05:59 AM     Printer Friendly
By the betting numbers...College Football Week 7 (see results below). Note that we use CRIS's opening and closing lines. We do not include games involving FCS teams.

Based on closing lines…

Home teams won by a small margin at 26-25 ATS (Road teams are 169-153 ATS YTD). There were two neutral site games (indicated by *). There was one push (K-State -6 at Iowa State).

Favorite had the edge this week at 26-24 ATS (Underdogs are 169-158 ATS YTD). Three games closed as a pick 'em. There was one push (K-State -6 at Iowa State).

Double-digits favorites and underdogs were split 10-10 ATS (DD underdogs are 90-76 ATS YTD).

21 of 54 games were decided by 7 points or less. 26 of 54 games were lined 7 points or less.

Totals went 26-28 Over/Under (170-168-3 O/U YTD).

Beating the Market: If you bet the opening number on a team that moved three points or more based on the closing line (i.e. UCLA -5.5) you went: 5-4 ATS (44-27 ATS YTD)

Chasing the Market: If you bet the closing number on a team that moved three points or more (i.e. UCLA -9.5) you went: 4-5 ATS (34-34-3 ATS YTD).

Based on the opening and closing lines, the market was "correct" 21 times but "incorrect" 26 times. "Correct" meaning if a game opened -3 and closed -4 and the favorite won by 7, the market was “correct.” If a game opened -3 and closed -4 and the favorite lost outright, the market was obviously "incorrect." Note that in seven games, the game opened and closed at the same number.

Parlay combo breakdown (50 games) (323 games YTD)
Favorite-Over: 11 (86 YTD)
Favorite-Under: 15 (70 YTD)
Underdog-Over: 12 (75 YTD)
Underdog-Under: 12 (92 YTD)

Note that we did not include pick ‘em lines and pushes in our parlay combos.

College Football Handicapping: Boston College defense decimated by injuries

10.12.2012     02:08 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Boston College at Florida State -28 O/U 54

Some major injury concerns for Boston College's defense heading into Saturday's game at Florida State.

Six players have started in the secondary this season. Seven have weaved in and out of a patchwork defensive line. The defense coach Frank Spaziani expected to send out at the start of the season has never seen the field, and in the Eagles’ five games, he’s had to go with five starting combinations.

The depth chart is a minefield of injuries, starting with the defensive line, which will be without linemen Kaleb Ramsey, Brian Mihalik and in all likelihood Dominic Appiah, who is listed as doubtful. Defensive back Spenser Rositano will also sit out with a head injury.

“The defense has had some

UPDATE

Nevada at UNLV

According to Sports Options, Nevada quarterback Cody Fajardo has been downgraded to "doubtful" for Saturday's rivalry game against UNLV. Devin Combs would start in his place. Not one offshore sportsbook has posted a line on the game. In Vegas, it appears that the Wynn was willing to toss out a number, opening with Nevada -9.5 on Sunday night. Today we've seen the line drop from -8.5 to -7 as a result of Fajrado's status.
