New Orleans Bowl Betting Preview: Louisiana-Lafayette vs. San Diego State

New Orleans Bowl
Louisiana-Lafayette vs. San Diego State
Saturday, 6 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener: San Diego State -5.5 O/U 60
CRIS Current: San Diego State -4.5 O/U 58.5
Rob Veno Power Rating: San Diego State -10.5

Erin Rynning's Betting Take: The upstart Ragin Cajuns seek to deliver the goods for the Sun Belt Conference once again as the conference has now won four of the last five New Orleans Bowls. The excitement level will definitely be there for ULL with at least 18,500 tickets swooped up by its fan base. Meanwhile, San Diego State has sold around 1,000 of its 9,500 ticket allotment. With the Lafayette campus less than two hours away, and a New Orleans Bowl record crowd of almost 40,000 fans expected, it will do doubt be a pro-Cajuns crowd. Note also that it will mark Lafayette’s first postseason appearance in 41 years! Read more

College Football Betting: San Diego State banged up, cuts practice short

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Louisiana-Lafayette at San Diego State -4.5 O/U 59

Forget lack of motivation, San Diego State has bigger fish to fry like finding enough healthy bodies. The Aztecs were forced to cut Thursday's New Orleans Bowl practice short due to injuries. According to head coach Rocky Long, half of his starters will be playing with some sort of ailment.

“We’re a beat up football team,” said head coach Rocky Long, whose team plays Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday in the New Orleans Bowl. “Half of our starters will be playing with some form of ailment. We’ve got a whole bunch of guys who played the last half of season or more beat up. And guess what. When they’re playing, they don’t get well.”

NCAAF Betting Update: A&M's DeRuyter takes Fresno gig, will coach bowl

12.15.2011     07:18 AM     Printer Friendly
UPDATE

This was the title of an article from back on December 8: A&M interim coach Tim DeRuyter focused on bowl game amid turmoil. This was the title of an article from late last night: Aggies' DeRuyter new Fresno State head coach. It would be even funnier had DeRuyter contacted Texas A&M players from head_coach_DeRuyter@fresnostate.edu. No, unlike Pitt's Todd Graham, DeRuyter is going to finish the job and coach the Aggies in the upcoming Car Car Bowl against Northwestern. That being said, we would imagine most of his time and efforts will be pointed towards recruiting for Fresno rather than preparing A&M.

Idaho Potato Bowl Betting Preview: Utah State Aggies vs. Ohio Bobcats

Idaho Potato Bowl
Utah State vs. Ohio
Saturday, 3:30 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener: Utah State -3 O/U 58
CRIS Current: Utah State -1.5 O/U 58

Teddy Covers’ Betting Take: The MAC, as a conference, has been a disaster area in recent bowl seasons, with a money-burning 5-15-1 ATS mark over the last five years. Ohio, in particular, has been a solid contributor to that losing record, with an 0-3 SU/ATS run in bowls under head coach Frank Solich, including a 48-21 wipeout at the hands of Troy last year and a 21-17 loss to Marshall the previous season. It’s surely worth noting that both of those games were lined in a similar spread range as this year’s Idaho Potato Bowl – one game was a pick ‘em, the other was +1.

The Bobcats aren’t in a particularly good spot this year either. Two weeks ago, midway through the fourth quarter, Ohio was Read more

NCAAF Betting Notes: Pitt's Graham and three assistants take new jobs

12.14.2011     12:56 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Maybe Dave Wannstedt wasn't that bad. At least he was loyal...and didn't get arrested. Pitt will be looking for yet another head coach after Todd Graham bailed to Arizona State after just one season. Apparently if you go 6-6 in the Big East, you are a wanted man. The move puts the Panthers in a difficult spot for the Compass Bowl (Jan. 7) with Graham gone and three assistants leaving to join Rich Rodriguez's staff at Arizona. When news of Graham's decision broke, bettors were quick to jump on SMU. Pitt opened -5.5 but are now down to -3 at some offshore shops.

New Mexico Bowl Betting Preview: Temple Owls vs. Wyoming Cowboys

12.14.2011     12:36 PM     Rob Veno     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Rob Veno

New Mexico Bowl
Temple at Wyoming
Saturday, 11 am PT – ESPN
CRIS Opener: Temple -7.5 O/U 46.5
CRIS Current: Temple -7 O/U 49
Rob Veno Power Rating: Temple -6.5

Rob Veno’s Betting Take: The excitement level should be sky high for both of these squads. For the Owls, it’s an opportunity to be nationally showcased on ESPN after being snubbed last year despite an 8-4 record. This is a favorable postseason destination for Wyoming after beating Fresno State as a 10-point underdog in the 2009 New Mexico Bowl. The site may lend a slight edge to the Cowboys which play here every other year as part of the Mountain West. It also provides a reasonable distance for their fan base to travel to.

Fundamentally, this game has a pair of crucial matchups which figure to decide not only the side winner but the total as well. The Read more

NCAAF Betting Notes: Auburn staff gutted as Malzahn leaves for Arkansas State

12.14.2011     07:27 AM     Printer Friendly
UPDATE

Last week, Auburn defensive coordinator Ted Roof left for Central Florida. Today it was announced that offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn accepted an offer to become the head coach at Arkansas State. No word on whether or not Malzahn will stick around (unlikely) for the Chick-fil-A Bowl against Virginia on January 1. That means Auburn may be down both coordinators and running back Michael Dyer who was suspended. Arkansas State plays Northern Illinois in the GoDaddy.com Bowl on January 8.

NCAAF Betting Notes: UL-Lafayette gets true home field thanks to ticket sales

12.13.2011     08:15 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Louisiana-Lafayette vs. San Diego State -4.5 O/U 58

All aboard the UL-Lafayette bandwagon! If you want a ticket the New Orleans Bowl you had been hop on Craigslist because these things are HOT! ULL received an initial allotment of 6,000 tickets. After those sold, they got 6,000 more. Too bad that wasn’t enough as 6,000 more were sold and only 500 remain. Last season, the Ragin Cajuns went 3-9 and averaged about 17,000 fans per game. This year, as a result of a massive turnaround (8-4), ULL averaged just under 30,000 per game. Not bad for a Sun Belt team. Wonder how many San Diego State fans will be in attendance?
