College Basketball Free Play: Wyoming Cowboys at UNLV Rebels

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Wyoming at UNLV -10.5 O/U 127
Recommendation: Over

In the war against meaningless games, scoring often wins out and that is where we will look for tonight’s UNLV-Wyoming matchup. While UNLV may apply on-ball pressure, after a few extra passes this defense is very susceptible. Just look what took place at Colorado State – the Rams just wore UNLV down with 40 points in the second half. Wyoming isn't that type of team but they'll get more that their fair share of open looks. As for UNLV's offense, we can certainly expect bigger things (it's Senior Night!) than what we saw in Fort Collins with a season long average of 82.8 ppg at the Thomas & Mack Center. The first time these two teams met, Wyoming was for the most part able to control tempo with only 63 possessions but the game still got to 134 points. These two teams could very well face one another in the opening round of the Mountain West Tournament which has Read more

Patriot League Tournament Gambling Preview

Here’s a game-by-game look at tonight’s Patriot League Tournament quarterfinals.

#8 Navy @ #1 Bucknell (-17.5 / 115) – The Midshipmen went 0-14 in regular season conference play and 3-25 overall but they enter this quarterfinal round having lost by more than this price only four times this season and one of those was to Missouri. On this floor four days ago, Navy played Bucknell very competitively losing by nine 64-55. The immediate turnaround situation in this contest could be viewed as an edge for either side but whichever stance you take is dictated by the Bison’s motivational angle. They could take a bored approach to this #8 seed which they’ve disposed of twice now or they could focus on distancing themselves early to keep the crowd energetic and coast through the second half. The latter is exactly what Bucknell did on Saturday leading by double-digits almost throughout the entire contest but the Middies never quit playing and made it a single-digit final. Bucknell has won by more than this asking price once in Patriot League play and their preferred slower tempo makes it difficult to gain extreme separation. The game Read more

Big East Gambling Notes: West Virginia tries again for key victory

Marquette at West Virginia -1 O/U 144

All right, let's try this again. Faced with what many were calling a "must win" at Notre Dame on Wednesday, West Virginia lost 71-44. Now the Mountaineers square off against a surging Marquette squad that has won 11 of 12, including recent wins by margins of 14, 17, 15 and 17.

"Obviously, you'd like to have more than one day to prepare," said West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins. "They've just done a great job. They're constantly in attack mode."

"When you score a basket and you want to look at your mother and wave and they'll run by you," Huggins said. "They're extremely aggressive, and they've got a lot of interchangeable players and (head coach Buzz Williams) does a great job of rotating those Read more

West Virginia at Notre Dame -2.5 O/U 125.5

Article on what's at stake for West Virginia (17-10, 7-7 Big East) as it travels to Notre Dame (19-8, 11-3) tonight. The Mountaineers have lost five of seven (2-5 ATS) but are off a 66-48 road win at Pittsburgh.

“I’m not sure if we’re 9-9 that we’re not OK,” Huggins said. “I’d feel a whole lot better with 10.”

College Basketball ATS Free Pick: TCU Horned Frogs at Air Force Falcons

TCU at Air Force -2 O/U 128.5
Recommendation: Air Force

Air Force came out in its first game following the surprising mid-season coaching change and laid a complete egg; blasted at home by Boise State.  But now that they've had some time to settle into a fresh routine, we've seen the Falcons pull off outright upset wins over Wyoming and San Diego State.  Air Force has legitimate under-the-radar pointspread value at this late stage of the season.

Air Force's recent run of success is somewhat tempo based.  The Falcons have been able to slow the game down, playing intense in-your-face defense, masking some of their offensive deficiencies.  A slow pace is TCU's worst nightmare – when the Horned Frogs don't run, they don't win very often.  TCU shot 58% from two-point range in the first meeting between these two teams, and hit six three pointers, compared to only three made three pointers for Air Force.  Despite that stellar Read more

College Basketball Free Play: New Mexico Lobos at Colorado State Rams

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
New Mexico at Colorado State +6 O/U 135
Recommendation: Colorado State

Following a pair of convincing redemption wins over San Diego State and UNLV, the New Mexico Lobos (22-4) have taken control of the Mountain West Conference at 8-2. They hold a two-game lead over SDSU and UNLV, and tonight’s contest is their toughest remaining conference game. Tough to step in front of the red hot Lobos when they are playing so well: 7-0 SU and ATS run with every win by at least 10 points.

Consider that the Lobos are winning with a dominating defense that has held six opponents to 54 or fewer points the last seven games. They also lead the league in rebounding margin which gives them a sound formula for success. The league’s top two FG shooters are on the Lobos with their inside/outside combination of Drew Gordon (52%) and Kendal Williams (53%). Gordon also leads the league in rebounding at over 11 per game. Add in the top field goal and Read more

NCAA Basketball Gambling: New Mexico favored at San Diego State

New Mexico -1 at San Diego State O/U 129.5

First place on the line in the Mountain West tonight as New Mexico (20-4, 6-2 MWC) travels to San Diego State (20-4, 6-2). The Aztecs won in Albuquerque, 75-70, on January 18.

It’s a big revenge game,” Hardeman said. “But just to be playing against San Diego State is going to be big for us because they’re ranked in the top 25 and I feel this is a game we need.”

“The league changes,” Lobo head coach Steve Alford said. “Three weeks ago, this wasn’t what the league looked like. Three weeks ago we were next to last.”

College Basketball Betting Free Play: College of Charleston at Appalachian State

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
College of Charleston at Appalachian State pk
Recommendation: Appalachian State

A lot has occurred with College of Charleston over the last few weeks – so much so that I think its season is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. After starting 9-1, the Cougars dropped four of their last seven, but that was just the start. In a marquee matchup at conference leader Davidson, C of C was blasted 87-69. They followed that up with a road loss to an average Georgia Southern squad and then mysteriously lost back-to-back home games to Furman and Wofford laying -8.5 and -5.5 respectively. Prior to the Wofford game, unknown to everyone outside of the program, head coach Bobby Cremins decided to step away for health reasons. The Cougars managed to rally the troops with a solid road win at bottom feeder Samford but it was Thursday's effort that may be too much to overcome. C of C trailed Elon on the road by 17 at half but rallied back to force double overtime only to lose 99-98. Five players saw 36+ minutes of action including Andrew Lawrence who played the entire 50 minutes. Now they must turn right around and face an Appalachian State squad that Read more
