College Football Betting Preview: West Virginia Mountaineers at Oklahoma Sooners

West Virginia at Oklahoma
Saturday, 9 am PT - FS-1
CRIS Opener:
Oklahoma -7.5 O/U 61
CRIS Current: Oklahoma -7 O/U 59
Recommendation: West Virginia

West Virginia enters this game with a 3-0 SU and ATS record although one could argue its quality of competition was lacking as they faced Georgia Southern, Liberty, and a Maryland team with a slew of issues. However, the fact remains that West Virginia has looked very sound on both sides of the football. Quarterback Skyler Howard, a dual threat QB, has grasped West Virginia’s offensive system quickly and been very effective in the first three games averaging over 300 passing with 69% completions and a strong 9-1 TD-to-INT ratio. WVU also has a pair of strong backs in Rushel Shell and Wendell Smallwood and a solid receiving corps with three different receivers with double digits in receptions and over 100 receiving yards led by Shelton Gibson.

Oklahoma’s defense hasn’t exactly put up a lot of resistance early in the season. In their two tougher games against better offenses, the Sooners yielded 24 points to Tennessee and were Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Alabama Crimson Tide at Georgia Bulldogs

Alabama at Georgia
Saturday, 12:30 pm PT - CBS
CRIS Opener:
Georgia -2.5 O/U 54
CRIS Current: Georgia -2.5 O/U 54.5
Recommendation: Over

Georgia's defense hasn't been tested at all this season with three games against the pedestrian offenses of UL-Monroe, Vanderbilt, and South Carolina. Keep in mind, the Bulldogs have replaced five of their front seven from a year ago. And last year's defense didn't exactly hold up well against the better offenses of the SEC. For starters, they didn't play Mississippi State and Alabama who ranked second and fourth respectively in SEC play in terms of total offense. The did shut down Auburn but the game was somewhat of an aberration as the Tigers coughed up the football three times. Against South Carolina, who ranked third, Georgia allowed 6.21 yards per play and 38 points. Arkansas, Florida, Tennessee, and Kentucky all topped 30+ points as well.

Dating back to last season, we've seen Alabama's defense struggle against dynamic offenses. Auburn hung 44 points and 630 yards and Ohio State moved the ball practically at will en route to a 42-35 bowl win. And two Read more

College Football Handicapping: Tennessee seeks better offensive balance

09.30.2015     07:39 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Through four games, Tennessee's run/pass ratio is extremely lopsided with 209 rush attempts to only 102 pass attempts. A lot of that was dictated by the opposition as the Vols had big leads against Bowling Green and Western Carolina and were rightfully timid to challenge Florida's top-tier secondary. Saturday would serve as a good opportunity to get the passing game going based on Arkansas's defensive numbers. Against Texas Tech, the Razorbacks allowed 315 yards at 10.2 yards per attempt. There were similar struggles against Texas A&M with the Aggies throwing for 358 yards at a staggering 12.8 yards per attempt.

"Every game has a story to it," DeBord said Tuesday. "The story of that game was we were running the ball very effectively. There were times I could have probably gone to the passing game, but when the running game’s going good, stay with the running game."

"We want to be able to throw the ball more down the field," Jones said. "That's really a big part of us

College Football Gambling: Wyoming walking into buzzsaw with trip to Appalachian State

09.30.2015     07:22 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Following last week's 38-28 home loss to New Mexico in which they allowed 7.44 yards per play, the Wyoming Cowboys are making a slew of personnel changes to their defense. On the school's website, the defensive depth chart (as of Monday) features four redshirt and true freshmen. You can't help but look at Saturday's non-conference road trip to Appalachian State as a "throw away game." The Cowboys are off a league game and have a trip to Air Force on deck. Meanwhile, the Mountaineers are off a 49-0 whipping of Old Dominion and have designated Saturday's game vs. Wyoming as homecoming. The betting markets have jump all over the home favorite with Appy State jumping from -19.5 to -25.5.

“If you feel like you’ve got other guys on the bench right now that can go out and make plays, by gosh we’re going to put the next guy in and give them an opportunity to make some plays,” Bohl said.

NFL players can participate in DFS but can't win more than chump change

09.29.2015     08:35 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Colleges have already come out as saying that athletes aren't allowed to participate in daily fantasy sports. The NFL isn't as strict, though there's a caveat. According to the league office, $250 is the max you can win.

“[F]antasy football games and League or Club-sponsored skills competitions (e.g., racquetball tournaments, ‘Club Olympics’ events) for prizes generally are not considered to be gambling or a gambling-related activity, provided that there is no wagering on the outcome,” the league’s policies for players state. “NFL Personnel may not, however, accept prizes with a value in excess of Two Hundred Fifty Dollars ($250) in any fantasy football game. This prohibition is intended to avoid any appearance of impropriety which may result from participation in fantasy football games by individuals perceived to have an unfair advantage due to their preferential access to information.”

College Football Gambling Update: Cal takes big early money for fifth straight week

09.29.2015     08:09 AM     Printer Friendly
UPDATE

Another big early week market move towards the California Golden Bears (3-1 ATS) as they play host to Washington State. Last week, the Bears were bet up from -2 to -5 against Washington. However, late money had the Huskies go off as -1 favorites at some offshore sportsbooks. It was the wrong opinion as Cal won the game 30-24. This week, CRIS opened Cal -13.5 and it has since been bet up to -19.5. Again, we're talking about a Week 4 college football power conference side, not some soft Week 1 Sun Belt total.

College Football Betting Preview: Iowa Hawkeyes at Wisconsin Badgers

Iowa at Wisconsin
Saturday, 9 am PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Wisconsin -8.5 O/U 47.5
CRIS Current: Wisconsin -6.5 O/U 47
Recommendation: Iowa

Big Ten conference play starts as the Iowa Hawkeyes take their perfect 4-0 record to Madison to battle with the Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday morning. The Hawkeyes unleashed an offensive assault on North Texas last week, scoring 62 points and gaining 488 yards of total offense. Quarterback C.J. Beathard completed his first 15 passes, gaining 278 total yards and 2 TDs while senior running back Jordan Canzeri had a career day, tying a school record with 4 TDs on 22 carries for 115 yards. With the win, Iowa hit the 60-point barrier for the first time since 2012 and begin conference play with a 4-0 record for the first time since 2009.

The Badgers bounced back well from their opening week loss to Alabama with a trio of easy home wins against Miami-Ohio, Troy, and Hawaii. Now Wisconsin will start the league slate at home against an Iowa club that they have beat the last two seasons in Iowa City. Running back Taiwan Deal has filled in nicely with the absence of Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Arizona State Sun Devils at UCLA Bruins

Arizona State at UCLA
Saturday, 4:30 pm PT - FOX
CRIS Opener:
UCLA -14 O/U 57.5
CRIS Current: UCLA -13.5 O/U 58
Recommendation: Over

In two games against top-tier competition, Arizona State was completely outplayed. In Week 1, Texas A&M outgained the Sun Devils 425 yards (5.31 ypp) to 291 yards (3.55) in a 38-17 loss. And last week, they were again outgained by over a yard per play against USC; saving some face statistically (455 total yards) by picking up yards during garbage time. The conundrum with the Sun Devils is they have a quarterback who can't run and no elite level receivers to offset it in the passing game. It also doesn't help that ASU has coughed up the football on nine occasions including four times against USC. This was a squad that had only 13 turnovers all of last season and a +14 turnover margin. Now after being embarrassed on their home turf they hit the highway to face a team that beat them 62-27 last season.

UCLA had plenty go its way in last week's 56-30 blowout at Arizona. The Bruins forced three turnovers and the Wildcats lost quarterback Anu Solomon in the second Read more
