St. Louis (Lackey) at New York (Harvey) -126 O/U 6.5
Recommendation: New York

Considering Matt Harvey missed all of last season I'd say he's exceeded expectations in 2015. Through seven starts Harvey has produced a stellar 47-7 K-to-BB ratio to go with a 2.31 ERA. I noticed that Harvey has been pretty judicious about using his slider thus far following last year's arm surgery. Prior to his last start he used it only about 10% of the time. Against the Cubs, Harvey threw it 20% of the time and he tied his season-best with 9 strikeouts and posted a season-best 17 swinging strikes. It's scary to think he's still "rounding into form." John Lackey has been solid this season but simply doesn't stack up to Harvey. Lackey's K-rate is currently a career-low 6.04 per 9 and he's been pretty fortunate with the long ball having allowed only 2 in 44.2 innings. This is also a tough spot for the Cards having played late last night on ESPN. Two weeks ago the Yankees capped off a sweep of the Red Sox on Sunday night and looked sluggish the following night in a 3-1 loss as Toronto. Same deal for Kansas City who off an extra inning win over Detroit got blitzed Read more

Arizona (Collmenter) -125 at Philadelphia (O'Sullivan) O/U 8.5
Recommendation: Over

Warms temps and two very hittable pitchers take the hill in Philadelphia this afternoon with Arizona's Josh Collmenter facing Sean O'Sullivan. Collmenter's schtick continues to wear off as his numbers have declined across the board. Compared to last year, his K rate is down from 5.77 to 4.61, his line drive rate is close to 30%, and it's all tied to the fact that he's somehow lost even more velocity. O'Sullivan isn't that far removed from Collmenter stuff-wise. In fact, Collmenter's -125 road price tag says all you need to know about O'Sullivan's ability. He's a big time flyballer who's always had a tough time missing bats. In three starts this season, O'Sullivan has fanned only 9 while allowing 4 home runs. He's typically a bit "tougher" on right-handers which Arizona has a lot of but you can't be too concerned with splits when dealing with a pitcher who owns a 5.86 ERA over 247 MLB innings. Both bullpens grade out as league average at best should we need a few runs in the later stages. The biggest concern here is weather as rain is in the forecast. If the Read more

Washington (Strasburg) at Arizona (De La Rosa) +125 O/U 8
Recommendation: Arizona

A lot of mixed reports of the status of Stephen Strasburg's arm. The most common is that it isn’t his arm but rather an ankle injury that caused him to strain his back. As a result, Strasburg has tweaked his mechanics some to compensate for the issue. I’ve seen this before where a pitcher with a history of arm trouble comes up with excuses regarding recent struggles.  And while some of his YTD stats suggest he's been a bit on the unlucky side (.394 BABIP, 65.3% LOB) it's worth pointing out that his K rate is down to a career-low 8.91. His return to the mound isn't the best of situations with the roof open tonight in Chase Field. Arizona's Rubby De La Rosa turned in his best performance of the season last time out as he shut down right-hand heavy San Diego (7 IP, 0 ER, 7 Ks). He's still trying to figure out how to pitch at the MLB level but has a bit of upside in this matchup coming from the right side. Nats have been on a tear but I see too many red flag on Strasburg not to look at the home underdog at a nice plus price.

MLB Handicapper Free Play: Oakland A's at Seattle Mariners

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Oakland (Hahn) at Seattle (Happ) -125 O/U 7.5
Recommendation: Seattle

Oakland's Jesse Hahn has really struggled since coming over from the National League. He's young, and has upside, but a vast majority of his 27 innings this year have been a struggle. His K-rate is 3.29 per 9 lower than last year as he claims to be "trying" to pitch to contact and increase his efficiency. I'm not buying it as Hahn hasn't gone 6 innings since his first start of the season. And with Seattle getting a second look and having the ability to put plenty of lefties in the lineup, this isn't a good matchup for Hahn. Speaking of bad matchups, JA Happ had been solid prior to facing Houston on the road last time out. The Astros have good pop from the right side and hit two home runs and plated six runs against Happ. Looks for Happ to rebound as he returns home to face an Oakland team that has struggled against left-handed pitching. The A's are 1-4 vs. lefty starters with some truly dismal splits (.214/.556). With Hahn's inability to go deep into games and Oakland's sub-par bullpen (ERA north of 5.00) we'll play the home side at the short price.
