PGA's Memorial Tournament at Murfield Village Betting Preview

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
We chipped in a tournament preview and match-up winner last week at Colonial and here are some thoughts, insight and player profiles for this week’s event at Muirfield Village.

Muirfield Village Golf Club was the dream and work of the great Jack Nicklaus. Located near his hometown of Columbus, Ohio, the Golden Bear named this course for the site of his first British Open victory. Jack’s tournament is by invitation only and will have 120 players competing this week.

The Nicklaus-designed course is a manicured masterpiece that stretches to 7,352 yards and is a par 72. The fairways offer some width and are quite generous despite being narrowed in the past five years. A second-shot course that requires creative shot-shaping and solid iron skills, players must play from the fairway and be more precise as they approach the pure bent grass greens. The greens are undulating and fast, but note a 30% chance of rain Thursday and 60% chance of rain Friday could soften them up for better scoring. Recent champions Read more

NBA Playoff History: Streaking Spurs to be tested by Thunder

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
As reviewed in our recent blog, San Antonio is on a remarkable run entering the Western Conference Finals having won 18 straight games while rewarding their betting backers with a 15-2-1 ATS mark.  Now the betting public seems to be riding the Spurs in the Western Conference finals series as well as Game 1 against the Oklahoma City Thunder.  However, I’ve outlined some similar teams on remarkable rolls heading into the Conference Finals that did not pay off for their betting backers.

In 2009-10, the Orlando Magic were on a 28-3 run following a sweep of their first two playoff series. The Magic (-6.5) lost game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals to the Celtics 92-88 and lost the series 4-2.

In 2008-09, the Cleveland Cavaliers were on a 13-1 run including 8-0 in the opening two rounds of the NBA playoffs. Overall, the Cavs were on a 26-3 run heading into the NBA finals before losing the opening game to the Orlando Magic 107-106 as 8.5-point favorites. The Cavaliers went 66-16 during Read more

NBA Handicapping: Spurs on historic run heading into Western Conference Finals

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The San Antonio has been a model franchise for years while winning four NBA titles in 1999, 2003, 2005 and 2007. Shooting for another championship, the Spurs head into the 2012 Western Conference finals as the hottest team in the NBA. They’ve won 18 straight games including eight straight in the playoffs. The Spurs have been bet up to a -205 series favorite over the Thunder and have looked nearly flawless while dominating opponents over the past six weeks. Despite being prohibitive favorites in a majority of their games, San Antonio has gone 15-2-1 ATS during its smoking hot run.

The Spurs are flirting with history as their 18-game winning streak is among the 10 longest in NBA history. They are the only playoff team averaging over 100 ppg (102.5). The Big Three of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Mano Ginobili are scoring 46% of the team’s points, but this year’s Spurs team is deeper and more balanced. During the 2005 and 2007 championship seasons, the Big Three accounted for at least 62% of the team’s scoring.

Crown Plaza Invitational at Colonial Betting Preview

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
I went to the archives to pull out an old Fairway PGA preview and modified some thoughts from the tee. Colonial Country Club is an old-fashioned layout measuring nearly 7,200 yards and a par 70.  Experience has always paid off along with solid shot-making and scrambling.  Many idiosyncrasies to learn and understand about the golf course, as the wind, tree-lined doglegs and fairly narrow fairways put a premium on accuracy over power. Patience is a pre-requisite and solid ball strikers (combination driving distance and accuracy with GIR) come to the forefront. Players with a solid short game strategy and scrambling ability are your best bets.

Holes 3-4-5 referred to as the “Horrible Horseshoe” are the toughest stretch with the navigation of the Trinity River on hole no. 5 making it the most difficult hole on the course. Other tough scoring holes to watch are no. 4, 9 and 14. “Hogan’s Alley” is steep in tradition and the great Ben Hogan once noted that, "A straight ball will get you in more trouble at Colonial than any other course I know."

Ben Crane over Carl Pettersson at a plus price is one play Read more

All Vegas Poker Tour at Caesars Palace

05.18.2012     07:12 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The All Vegas Poker (AVP) Tour continues at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on Saturday, May 19, 2012 with the Final Table scheduled for May 20th.  Fairway Jay will headline a strong field with over 200 players expected to compete in the No-Limit Hold ‘em headline event of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) warm-up series at Caesars Palace. A $3,000 added WSOP bracelet event buy-in is added to the prize pool, so the winner or final two finishers will also receive a seat into a $3,000 or $1,500 WSOP event.

Fairway Jay made the final table of the inaugural All Vegas Poker Tour event at the MGM in March and finished runner-up for a cash prize of over $5,000.  What’s unique about this new event and series is that the Final Table is streamed live over the Internet and also archived on the website. Friends, family and poker fans around the world can watch the action with interactive viewer-controlled 360-degree video technology that includes audio of the Read more

NBA Playoff betting profiles that produce profit

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
We’re off a pair of NBA winners Tuesday and back in action with two more NBA plays for tonight including another top-rated 20* Big Drive. This play fits a proven, profitable situation for success and we expect another top-play winner in NBA action and more of the same on Friday.

As noted in a recent blog, Round 2 home favorites have been the biggest profit producers in any round of NBA playoff action, and home favorites of 5 or more points have hit over 70% the past 30+ situations including the Spurs Game 1 win over the LA Clippers.

The LA Clippers will have a tough time bouncing back with a victory in Game 2 as the injuries and soreness surrounding the Clippers Blake Griffin (knee, ankle), Chris Paul (hip), Caron Butler (broken hand), Mo Williams (hand) and Nick Young (tooth) have them playing at less than 100% health against the Spurs.  Normally I would support the Clippers in this situation as they fit a Read more

NBA Handicapping: Winning Wagers on Round 2 Home Favorites

05.15.2012     08:07 AM         Printer Friendly
Submitted by

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
We cashed a pair of NBA winners last night when the 76ers (+4.5) beat Boston outright and the Thunder (-7.5) romped over the LA Lakers 119-90. Miami and Oklahoma City won and covered their opening games in Round 2, and those victories highlight a proven and profitable playoff parameter on Round 2 home favorites.

Over the past decade, Round 2 home favorites have experienced more success than any other round of the NBA playoffs. Miami won and covered all three home games as favorite last season against Boston, and NBA home favorites have covered over 58% of their games since the start of the 2003 playoffs (sample size over 170 games).

That’s a solid base situation with a large sample size. This season, Round 2 home favorites are 2-2 as the Celtics failed to cover either game, and last season those Round 2 home favorites went 11-4. But add in this line parameter and the bigger home favorites provide a stronger profitable profile. Since 2003, home favorites of -5 or more points are now 84-22 straight-up and 67-38-1 ATS (64%).  In fact, over the past 30+ games, these home favorites of -5 or more points have covered over 70% of the time! That includes 2-0 Read more

Free MLB Betting Pick: Los Angeles Angels at Texas Rangers

LA Angels (Wilson) at Texas (Darvish) -145 O/U 8.5
Recommendation: Under

We nailed our sixth straight MLB winner since May 6th including our fourth straight top-rated 20* Big Drive MLB winner as the Pirates and Nationals played UNDER the total last night (Washington won 4-2). That over/under winner was also our fourth-straight totals winner this week and you can review my thoughts and game analysis provided to clients.  We’ve now produced over +10 of MLB profit alone in the month of May as our winning and profitable baseball season continues.  Get on my bag for the rest of May and beyond as we continue to swing a hot bat and deliver on the diamond.

Let’s take a trip to Texas and attack another total. A sellout crowd will greet former Rangers lefty C. J. Wilson as he returns to face his former mates. Wilson (4-2) has thrown six-straight quality starts for his new Read more

The Players Championship at Sawgrass Betting Preview

The Players Championship
TPC at Sawgrass – Stadium Course
Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida
Par 72, 7,215 Yards

Annually one of the toughest tests on the PGA Tour, the Pete Dye design of TPC at Sawgrass penalizes poor shots and players that are not precise with their irons. The golf course plays firm and fast now with Bermuda grass, and the course layout and angles force players to hit their ball to similar spots and targets from the tee and fairway. The risk-reward Stadium Course can feel claustrophobic with narrow fairways lined with long strips of sand and dozens of deep, diabolically placed pot bunkers. Combined with rough-covered knolls and craters, tall trees and plenty of water, players are required to hit their targets or they find themselves with difficult recovery shots. However, players that are precise with their irons can be rewarded on the greens with properly placed shots within 20 feet of the hole. You have to bring your complete game to contend and win at Sawgrass. Players must be able to move the ball both ways off the tee with a variety of clubs and position your shots for success into the firm and fast greens. Playing Read more

MLB Handicapping Notes: Totals in the month of May

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Our rampage continues this week with another top-play 20* Big Drive winner as our American League Over/Under Game of the Month cashes in the Rangers’ romp over the Orioles, 10-3. The highest scoring game on the MLB card was highlighted by Josh Hamilton’s four home run performance. It gave us our fourth-straight MLB winner and nearly +7 units of MLB profit in the month of May.

Here’s some MLB totals information to add to your handicapping arsenal. The month of May has been a profit-producer playing UNDERS lined at 10 or more runs. Over the past decade, there has been over 500 games lined at 10 runs or higher in the month of May and the under has cashed at nearly a 56% rate.  Healthy pitching and fresh arms are still seemingly prevalent in the early season and the weather has not yet hit the higher temperatures that often result in more runs scored.

This season we’re seeing fewer runs scored and much less offensive production, and there are fewer games lined at 10 runs or higher. However, there is a situation to look for that can increase the percentages of winning these UNDER the total wagers, and it involves winning teams as home Read more
