NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Washington Capitals at Pittsburgh Penguins

Washington -130 at Pittsburgh O/U 5.5
Recommendaton: Washington

Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinals goes tonight as the Washington Capitals look to even the series against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Game 3 was one of the most dramatic games of this postseason with the Capitals winning 3-2 in overtime. An early hit on Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby delivered by defenseman Matt Niskanen proved to be large for both clubs. Niskanen was given a 5-minute major for and a game misconduct for his high cross-check hit. Crosby then left the contest for concussion protocol which he eventually failed and is now ruled out for this contest. "Sid the Kid" has had concussion issues in the past and losing their top scorer, along with another key forward in Conor Sheary who is out with a head injury suffered when colliding with teammate Patric Hornqvist midway through Game 3, should provide a huge boost to Washington. The Caps also will have Niskanen back as he wasn't suspended by the league. Great opportunity for the road side to even the series before returning home. Lay the moderate chalk with Washington.

NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: New York Rangers at Ottawa Senators

New York at Ottawa -105 O/U 5
Recommendation: Ottawa

My clients and I cashed several tickets on the Ottawa Senators in their opening round win over the Boston Bruins. This is in my opinion and undervalued squad and one I’ll be actively looking to back as the square off against the New York Rangers. On the surface, New York’s 4-2 series win over Montreal looks impressive but the fact remains they scored only 11 goals. Their success had a lot to do with Montreal’s totally inept offense that couldn’t buy a goal and found it very difficult to gain the blue line and generate scoring chances. Unlike the Canadiens, the Senators have offensive firepower. Bobby Ryan, Kyle Turris, Derick Brassard, Mark Stone, Mike Hoffman and Clarke MacArthur all registered multiple points against the Bruins. And star defenseman Erik Karlsson was phenomenal along the blue line as he piled up 7 points. The Rangers received outstanding goaltending from Henrik Lundqvist against the Canadiens but he really wasn’t challenged in the way I expect in this series. Ottawa also proved on multiple occasions against Boston that it could Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: San Jose Sharks at Edmonton Oilers

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
San Jose at Edmonton -130 O/U 5
Recommendation: Edmonton

I picked the Edmonton Oilers to win this series and even after the team suffered through an embarrassing 7-0 Game 4 road loss, my opinion remains. The series is tied 2-2 and the Oilers will enjoy home ice advantage with the series now down to a best-of-three. Edmonton is 10-1 in its last 11 home games which is a track record that shouldn’t be discounted. And they will almost assuredly come out of the gate with energy following that horrendous Game 4 loss. San Jose’s durability and its energy level may be challenged the remainder of the series. The Sharks, who went went to the Stanley Cup Finals last season, are an aging team. I think the longer this series goes, the edge swings toward Edmonton's youth which has been able to make San Jose look a step slow for portions of this series. It’s worth noting San Jose has a porous 2-7 road record in its last nine road games and I think they are running into a buzzsaw tonight with the Oilers looking to bounce back on home ice. I expect Edmonton to do just that and will lay the moderate price with the home chalk.

Ah, random polls that provide the public with random opinions on gambling.

Of the 687 respondents asked, 46 percent of them said it would be more likely for players, referees and officials to wager on contests, while 42 percent said it would not. The poll did not address other forms of gambling, such as poker or table games.

They were also queried about whether moving to Las Vegas would taint the league’s reputation and 21 percent said it would harm the NFL and 19 percent said it would harm the NHL.
