NBA Playoff Betting Recap: Oklahoma City and Memphis square off in Western Conference semifinals

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Submitted by Stat Intelligence

A fascinating Friday night quadruple-header of Game Sixes resulted in NO Game Sevens for Sunday, as the 3-2 leaders all sealed their respective deals. We talked about the games out East in our earlier post. We wrap up the evening with a look at the two Western Conference finals.

Oklahoma City 103, Houston 94

2-Point Percentage: Oklahoma City 48%, Houston 39%

3-Point Shooting: Oklahoma City 11/27, Houston 14/32

Free Throws: Oklahoma City 16/16, Houston 20/31

1’s and 2’s: Oklahoma City 70, Houston 52

Rebounds: Oklahoma City 41, Houston 43

Turnovers: Oklahoma City 10, Houston 15

A few quick notes…

*Jeremy Lin was always going to be overmatched in this series because he’s slower than people realize, and his shot comes and goes (mostly goes vs. quality opposition). His injury was a blessing because it put better athletes on the floor. He’s a great kid…and worth Read more

NBA Playoff Betting Recap: Celtics get hot from three, force Game 6 vs. Knicks

I didn’t get a chance to watch Game Six of Boston/New York Wednesday night. I was following along the commentary on twitter. Sounded like the ultimate gut check performance from the valiant if aging Celtics, and a very lame no-show from the arrogant Knicks who shouldn’t have been talking trash.

Somehow…NOBODY SEEMED TO NOTICE THIS...

Three Pointers: Boston 11/22, New York 5/22

I can only talk about the people I follow…so maybe there were places that made this a big story. But…how can Boston fans watch that game and see guts and glory rather than a team shooting way over its head on treys? The Celtics won scoreboard by two treys…with a boxscore edge of six treys…in a stat they would normally be expected to lose handily.

So…give them credit for showing up, playing hard, and continuing to battle. Just keep this sequence in mind.

NBA Playoff Betting Recap: Denver wins but Golden State moves to 5-0 ATS

The most entertaining series of the first round what was mostly its first dud. Golden State did rally to give Nuggets fans some nausea…and rallied enough to give Nuggets bettors a punch in the gut as Denver (-8) gagged a big lead in a 107-100 finish.

Dog players who lost New Jersey in a million overtimes this past weekend felt that was owed them. Golden State has topped expectations in all five games in this series. We’ve had some fairly consistent tendencies through the five games. Let’s take a look at that.

Series: Golden State leads 3-2 even though an extra game was in Denver

Two-Point Shooting: Golden State leads 4-1

Three-Point Makes: Golden State leads 5-0 (combined 52-35)

Free Throw Makes: Denver leads 5-0 (combined 117-79, yes +38!)

Rebounds: Golden State leads 3-2 (combined +16)

Turnovers: Denver leads 4-1 (combined +9)

1’s and 2’s: Denver leads 5-0 (combined +31)

Online poker a reality for Nevada gamblers

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
If you are a resident of the great state of Nevada then quit reading this blog and go have yourself some fun playing legalized online poker. No joke.

It is “a momentous day for the state and a testament not only to Ultimate and the board and (gaming) commission but also to the governor for getting a bill through so fast,” Burnett said, referring to the quick approval of a bill to allow Internet poker play in Nevada.

MLB Handicapper Free Pick: Los Angeles Angels at Oakland A's

LA Angels (Richards) at Oakland (Parker) -105 O/U 8.5
Recommendation: Oakland

My clients and I cashed a winner betting against the Angels on Sunday, as Seattle rallied from behind to steal a 2-1 victory over slumping LA.  We cashed a winner betting against the Angels on Monday in their disastrous 19 inning loss highlighted by multiple bullpen breakdowns.  And there’s absolutely no reason to think that the Angels are going to snap out of their season long funk as their road trip continues in Oakland tonight.

Mike Scioscia’s squad has lost six of their last eight, plagued by the same problems they’ve had all year – mediocre starting pitching, a bullpen that can’t close games and a lineup that’s struggling to create clutch hits.  Expect more of the same here!

LA’s quotes following last night’s six and half hour marathon speak volumes about their level of frustration right now, a team that’s Read more

MLB Betting News: Baltimore's Britton ready to unleash new and improved sinker

Baltimore (Britton) -115 at Seattle (Saunders) O/U 7

Between Jake Arrieta, Chris Tillman, and Zach Britton it's hard to keep tabs on which Baltimore pitcher is getting sent down to the minors or called back up after "discovering" a new way to get people out. This time it's Britton who will tonight in Seattle after rediscovering his sinker during a short stint at Triple-A. Britton reportedly tossed 80% sinkers and recorded an amazing 28 groundouts and zero fly outs in his last two starts. That right there is a positive. What are not are the seven walks and only four strikeouts though he obviously was focused more on honing his new approach. The betting markets seem to think he's good to go with Baltimore now favored after opening as a short underdog.

LA Angels (Hanson) at Oakland (Straily) -130 O/U 8
Recommendation: Oakland

I’ve been actively fading Tommy Hanson in the month of April. He has struggled in nearly every start and even though his last outing against Detroit looked good on paper, don’t be fooled for a second! Hanson labored immensely allowing six hits in six innings along with just two strikeouts and four walks on 102 pitches. He didn’t allow a run because the Tigers offense was inept that night. They had runners on base in nearly every inning but failed to get that one big, clutch hit with RISP to knock Hanson out of the game early. For the season Hanson has a 4.24 ERA and a porous 1.53 WHIP with a mediocre 8-6 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He could be in trouble tonight against an Oakland lineup that pounded out nine runs on 12 hits in a confidence boosting come from behind 9-8 win against Baltimore on Sunday. It’s worth noting that Hanson is coming off the bereavement list after the recent death of Read more

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wise Guy Report: NBA Western Conference Playoffs update

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Two weeks ago, I broke down the Eastern Conference Playoff Race in this column, concluding (to no surprise) that the Miami Heat are truly deserving of their big chalk, heavy favorite status; clearly the team to beat.

Last week, I got distracted by the upcoming (at the time) NFL Draft; looking to make my point that draft results hold surprisingly little influence over the opening Week 1 pointspreads, and that every prediction you read or hear about ‘Draft Grades’ is likely to be flawed at best, dead wrong at worst.

That being said, one other factor about the NFL Draft was perfectly clear this past weekend.  The better organizations in the NFL are in much better position to succeed than the weaker organizations.  Which is which?  Look no further than a recent recap of Super Bowl champs to identify ‘good’ organizations – squads with a short and long term plan, and the management team to implement that plan.

The Ravens, Giants, Packers, Steelers, Patriots, Colts, Seahawks and 49ers are at the top of my ‘quality organization’ list, and you can assume a priori that those eight organizations Read more

NBA Playoff Betting Update: Lakers bounced, Warriors one win from advancing

Numbers and notes from the Sunday Slam. Let’s begin with a very brief recap of the first three games…

*The Lakers said to San Antonio “please put us out of our misery” by scoring only 34 points in the first half, and the Spurs obliged with a 103-82 victory that finished off a 4-0 sweep.

*The Bucks said to Miami “please put us out of our misery” by scoring only 15 points in the fourth quarter, and the Heat obliged with a 88-77 victory that finished off a 4-0 sweep.

*The Celtics said to New York “please put us out of our misery” by scoring 14 points in the third quarter, and 16 points in the fourth quarter (only 2 in the last four minutes)…but Carmelo Anthony missed a jumper with 3:04 left in the regulation, and with 2:23 left in regulation, and with 2:06 left in regulation, then two free throws with 1:50 left in regulation, then another jumper with 0:44 left, and another with 0:19 left… so the Celtics vengefully won in Read more

Feds use Skype to bust illegal sports betting

04.29.2013     07:32 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Great. Now the Feds are wire-tapping Skype as a means to bring down illegal sports betting operations.

They discussed Lasso's efforts to wire hundreds of thousands of dollars from illegal gambling websites into Panamanian banks and companies that she had set up as fronts to launder money, according to a federal complaint.

Law enforcement authorities said the pair mistakenly believed their conversation on Skype that day could not be captured on a wiretap. They were wrong.
