NCAA Tournament Gambling: Of course there was a moneyline bet on UMBC over Virginia

03.21.2018     08:34 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The odds on UMBC beating Virginia weren't good. But the odds of a few UMBC alums in Las Vegas playing the Retrievers on the moneyline were "chalky" to say the least. Here is their story.

"We, of course, thought we were throwing our money down the drain," said Barger, 42, who works for an airline company in Washington, D.C. "We expected to be down pretty quickly, but we hung in there, and they won by 20. It was surreal."

After the win, Barger went to cash the ticket to the tune of a $16,000 profit. In typical Vegas style, Barger said each of the eight men took $200 and put that down on a single game of roulette. Their number hit for another $1,900, which was split again.

Super Bowl LII Gambling: Mixed results from Las Vegas sportsbooks

02.05.2018     10:59 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Interesting to see whether or not Las Vegas sportsbooks were able to turn a collective profit on Super Bowl LII. Leading up to the game there were multiple reports of "big bets" being placed on the Philadelphia Eagles. William Hill reportedly got its ass kicked. Caesars said it won north of seven figures thanks to late money on the New England Patriots. Hard to fathom much in the way of success with prop bets considering the historic amount of offense. From 1995 to 2017, Las Vegas sportsbooks failed to profit only twice; the most recent of which New York's Read more

Super Bowl LII Betting: A quick look at the offshore and Las Vegas markets

02.01.2018     08:42 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Four days until Super Bowl LII and the betting markets continue tweak their pointspreads and totals. Let's take a look at where you can find the best numbers both offshore and in Las Vegas.

If you like the over...head on down to Bookmaker/CRIS or any offscreen clone. It's the only place on the planet currently dealing 47.5 (with -115 juice).

If you like the under...then of course you'll want to go the Las Vegas route. All the unusual suspects -- Stations, Coasts Jerry's -- are dealing 48.5. And offshore, so is 5Dimes.

If you're leaning towards laying the points with the Patriots...find a -4 and as of Thursday morning, there are plenty in Las Vegas (Westgate, Caesars, Stations) and offshore at 5Dimes.

If you're playing the underdog Eagles...+4.5 is everywhere. And if you happen to live in the greater Philadelphia area, wait until game day and grab the Pats -3 from your local, Fitzy.

If you don't like messing with pointspreads...it's important to shop around on this one. Because of all of the well publicized Eagles bets made in Las Vegas, you can get the Patriots as low as -175 (William Hill) on the moneyline. But if you want the Eagles, Read more

Super Bowl LII Gambling: Las Vegas bettors continue to load up on the Eagles

01.31.2018     12:19 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Sometimes, handicapping the Super Bowl is requires nothing more than checking out Twitter and the mainstream media. Thus far, the storyline has been multiple "big" bets taken by Las Vegas sportsbooks on the Philadelphia Eagles. When you see numbers like "80%" on one side of the biggest and most wagered on sporting event of the year, it makes it really difficult to not be at least somewhat interested in the other side.

"He's one of the guys who was floating around betting all that money on the World Series," veteran Las Vegas bookmaker Jimmy Vaccaro, now of the South Point, told the Associated Press. "I don't think he lost a bet then, we'll see how he does now."

"Yeah, I've got him, too," Avello said Monday of the return of the World Series bettor.

Nearly 80 percent of the money bet on the point spread was on the Eagles at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, including some wagers placed by respected bettors Monday. The Westgate SuperBook trimmed the point spread to Patriots -4

Super Bowl LII Betting: Las Vegas sportsbook takes massive wager on Philadelphia Eagles

01.26.2018     07:21 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Here's the first of many Super Bowl "big bet" stories. Las Vegas' MGM Mirage reportedly took a "multi-million dollar" wager on the Philadelphia Eagles. Perhaps most impressive is the sportsbook actually moved its line. Early this week, the Eagles were +5.5. The Mirage is currently showing +4.5-120.

"Obviously, we're pretty heavy Eagles now," MGM vice president of race and sport Jay Rood told ESPN. Rood said early betting previously had been pretty split for next Sunday's game between the Eagles and the Patriots.

NFL Playoff Gambling: Bettors show support for Jaguars and Eagles

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
After seeing early money come in on both favorites for Sunday's NFL Conference Championship matchups, it's the underdogs that are now seeing support. New England opened -8 vs. Jacksonville and was bet up to as high as -9.5. The Patriots are now -8.5 offshore and -9 at a majority of the Las Vegas sportsbooks. Minnesota opened -3 at Philadelphia. The Vikings saw early action that drove the line up to -3.5. All of the -3.5s have currently been taken out with Minnesota now -3 both offshore and in Vegas. According to Sports Options, 63% of the "betting public" is on the Patriots with 58% have supported the Eagles.

NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Dallas Stars at Vegas Golden Knights

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Dallas at Vegas -110 O/U 6
Recommendation: Vegas

The betting markets have been hesitant and reluctant all season to formulate the opinion that maybe, just maybe the expansion franchise Vegas Golden Knights are a legitimately good hockey team. Despite being in Year #1 of their existence, this squad has been an undervalued commodity right from the beginning of the season with the Knights leading the Pacific Division with a 15-7 overall record and that includes a near perfect record of 9-1 on home ice for Vegas here at T-Mobile Arena. Vegas has more offensive firepower than many people thought as the team is averaging a whopping 4.4 goals per game in their home games. James Neal has been an offensive catalyst for the team but lately he has gotten plenty of support from William Karlsson and Jonathan Marchessault. Karlsson has scored at least once and recorded multiple points in each victory during the Golden Knights current five game winning streak while Marchessault has recorded a goal and two assists in each of the last three games for Vegas. The Vegas Golden Knights have used a very aggressive, fast skating style to frustrate Read more
