College Football Gambling: Stanford's Hogan listed as game-time decision vs. Oregon State

09.23.2015     08:08 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Stanford quarterback Kevin Hogan suffered a sprained ankle in the third quarter of last week's win over USC. He played the rest of the game though is listed as a game-time decision for Friday's contest at Oregon State. Head coach David Shaw said that if close to healthy Hogan would play even without going full speed at practice. The Cardinal don't have much in the way of options with their second and third stringers combining for one career pass.

"We are fortunate it was not season-ending," Shaw said. "If he can do a little bit on Thursday, it might be a game-time decision."

"Structurally, he was not going to make it worse," Shaw said. "He was limping to and from the huddle but he scrambled when he needed. He gritted it out and did it."

Another week, another big move towards the California Golden Bears. They've been arguably the most popular team in the betting markets thus far. Check out CRIS's line moves toward Cal its first four games. College Football Betting Preview: USC Trojans at Arizona State Sun Devils

USC at Arizona State
Saturday, 7:30 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
USC -5.5 O/U 63
CRIS Current: USC -5.5 O/U 63
Recommendation: Over

Offenses should have the upper hand in Saturday’s PAC-12 showdown in Tempe. USC has had no problems moving the football with quarterback Cody Kessler throwing for close to 1,000 yards at a 78.7% completion rate and a sparkling 10-0 TD-INT ratio. The Trojans piled up over 50 points in their first two games against Idaho and Arkansas State and proved their offense is good enough to be productive against better competition when they hung 31 points and 427 total yards against a very solid Stanford defense last week despite the losing effort. This bodes well considering in its one true test this season against Texas A&M, Arizona State’s defense was gashed for 425 total yards (178 rushing, 247 passing) and 38 points. In last year’s meeting vs. USC, the Sun Devils allowed nearly 500 yards and 34 points

On the flip side, ASU’s offense has yet to click. It took them an entire half to get going against woeful New Mexico and looked sluggish against Read more

College Football Gambling: Fresno State dealing with quarterback issues

09.22.2015     08:31 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Lots of drama going on with Fresno State heading into Saturday's conference opener at San Jose State. Quarterback Chason Virgil is out for the year with a broken clavicle while fellow signal caller Zack Greenlee was arrested for public drunkenness. There's a chance Greenlee will be suspended for at least some of Saturday's contest. Linebacker Brandon Hughes was also arrested and could face suspension. Markets have yet to react with San Jose State holding as a -4.5 favorite.

“We’re aware of the incident. We’re gathering details and we’ll withhold further comment until the investigative process plays out,” coach Tim DeRuyter said Monday. “Discipline will be handled internally. He will practice this week, and Saturday we’ll make another announcement on it.”

College Football Betting Preview: TCU Horned Frogs at Texas Tech Red Raiders

TCU at Texas Tech
Saturday, 1:45 pm PT - FOX
CRIS Opener:
TCU -7 O/U 81
CRIS Current: TCU -7.5 O/U 79
Recommendation: Texas Tech

It's a Big XII Battle in Lubbock on Saturday as Texas Tech hosts the third-ranked TCU in what shapes up to be an battle of high-octane offensive attacks. The Red Raiders pulled out a big upset road win against Arkansas last week as quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 243 yards and offense produced 8.38 yards per play. Defensively, it wasn’t a bad showing for TTU. After allowing the Razorbacks to run for 438 yards (6.4 ypc) in last year’s blowout loss in Lubbock, the Red Raiders surrendered a far more modest 228 yards (5.30 ypc). TCU won a 57-36 shootout against SMU with Trevone Boykin throwing for 454 yards and 5 TDs. While the offense was clicking as usual for the Frogs, there were some unfortunate casualties on defense as CB Ranthony Texada is out for the season after suffering a knee injury and DE Terrell Lathan also left the contest early with a shoulder issue. Along with the recent suspension of DE Mike Tuaua, head coach Gary Patterson will have to really Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Maryland Terrapins at West Virginia Mountaineers

Maryland at West Virginia
Saturday, Noon PT - FS-1
CRIS Opener:
West Virginia -16 O/U 59
CRIS Current: West Virginia -16.5 O/U 60
Recommendation: West Virginia

Following two easy wins and a bye week, West Virginia takes a small step up in class as it plays host to rival Maryland. Following Week 2's embarrassing 48-27 loss to Bowling Green, the Terps bounced back with a 35-17 win over South Florida.

Heading into last week's game, Maryland made a switch at quarterback as Caleb Rowe stepped in for Perry Hills. Rowe seemed to make a positive impact as the passing game produced nearly 300 yards and four touchdowns. It was far from a perfect showing however as Rowe tossed three interceptions (16-15 TD-INT career ratio), the team fumbled three times but managed to regain possession in each instance, the ground game produced a dismal 114 yards on 3.4 ypc, and UM committed 12 penalties for 120 yards. Maryland will need a much cleaner performance if it is going to compete in Morgantown.

Not much of a body of work for West Virginia though Week 1's blowout win over Georgia Southern Read more

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wiseguy Report: Early season college football money makers

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
We’re already a quarter of the way through the college football season, with the first three weekends in the rear view mirror.  In this week’s Wiseguy Report, I’m going to focus on the early season pointspread outliers.  Of the 128 FBS teams that we see lines on every week, 13 have gone 3-0 ATS to open the season. Ten have gone 0-3 ATS.  Because of space limitations, I’m going to focus on the 3-0 teams this week, while taking a closer look at the struggling ATS squads in next week’s article.

What should we expect from these hot ATS teams moving forward?  And how can we look for those outlier teams from the get-go next year?  Read on to find out.

Ole Miss, NC State, Northwestern, Ohio, Air Force, BYU, Buffalo, Middle Tennessee State, Rice, Southern Miss, Washington, Central Michigan and SMU.  The only obvious commonality between those 13 squads is their 3-0 ATS mark.  I could easily add the likes of Texas Tech and Colorado State to this list, both 2-0-1 ATS.  And 2-0 ATS Navy hasn’t played three games yet; worthy of inclusion into this discussion.

Football Handicapping: Big early season profits

09.21.2015     09:10 AM     Otto Sports     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Otto Sports

What a start to the season! As a handicapper, it's never a bad thing to be red hot and have some bounces go your way which is exactly what has happened the first few weeks of the season as I've produced a combined 13-1 record and +18.3 units of profit in both college and pro football. Is winning at a 90%+ clip sustainable? No. I've been betting for well over a decade and I know how difficult it is to win at a high clip for extended stretches. That said, after tweaking a few parts of my handicap during the offseason, I've been able to put myself in high percentage situations and will do my best to maintain that moving forward. As you can see with the results below, I don't release a lot of plays --- something I do by design. My goal as a handicapper has always been to put my clients in the best position to profit and I feel that by identifying and isolating my strongest plays there's a higher probability to not only profit but minimize the damage when I do come up short. I'm really looking forward to the upcoming week and encourage anyone who is interested to be a part of my service which you can check out on my home Read more
