NFL Handicapping: NFC East on the rise

10.24.2016     11:33 AM     ICC     Printer Friendly
Submitted by ICC

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The NFC East has been jokingly called the “NFC Least” by pundits for years because of how weak of a division it had become but it is starting to gain some of its tenacity and strength back. This is the only division in the NFL where each team is above .500 and each of the four teams have a realistic shot to capture the division crown. I will examine where they stand following Week 7.

Dallas Cowboys (5-1 SU, 5-1 ATS)
The Dallas Cowboys have shown no ill effects of being without Tony Romo or Dez Bryant the last few games. They've been propelled by the play of two rookies: quarterback Dak Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliott. The Cowboys are currently third in the NFL in yards per play (6.1) and total yards per game (401.5) thanks to not only Prescott and Elliot but arguably the league's best offensive line. The defense which was thought to be a major area of concern for this team has benefited from the offense sustaining drives and keeping them fresh later in games. The stop unit ranks in the middle of the pack in most defensive categories but have managed to outperform expectations. Dallas comes out of their bye week with a divisional Read more

NFL Handicapping: Oakland's hellacious road schedule continues

10.24.2016     09:13 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Not sure why Oakland wants to move to Las Vegas when it would be bettered served joining the Sun Belt Conference. Of Oakland's seven games this season, four have been road including two on the East Coast. After beating Jacksonville in Week 7, the Raiders are being asked to head right back to the Sunshine State for an early start game against Tampa Bay (early reports indicate the team will stay in Florida). The league schedule makers were obviously drunk -- and/or trolling -- the Raiders. After their trip to Tampa, they return home for four straight (note: one game is in Mexico City) and then close out the year with three out of four on the road -- the three, of course, division games. What's impressive is dating back to last season, Oakland is 8-4 SU and 10-2 ATS on the highway including a 3-2 SU and 4-1 ATS record in the ET.

NFL Gambling News: The AFC West is up for grabs

10.17.2016     11:26 AM     ICC     Printer Friendly

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The AFC West is officially up for grabs. The Oakland Raiders are tied for first at 4-2; finding ways to win a handful of “coin flip” games. Victories against New Orleans, Tennessee, Baltimore and San Diego all came by a touchdown or less. Quarterback Derek Carr and the offense have been able to offset one of the league’s weakest defenses. The Raiders rank dead last in the NFL in three categories: yards per play allowed (6.9), yards per game allowed (444.8) and passing yards per game allowed (312.7). It was another poor performance on that side of the football in Sunday’s 26-10 home loss to Kansas City. Per usual, the Chiefs played it close to the vest for much of the game but still racked up 406 total yards. Oakland’s defensive struggles have yet to be corrected and until they are, the Raiders have the feel of an overvalued team from a pointspread perspective.

The Denver Broncos raced out to a 4-0 SU and ATS start but have since dropped two straight to Atlanta and San Diego. Denver’s offensive line played a key role  in both losses. They lost a couple of key cogs on the line with right tackle Donald Stephenson missing the last few Read more

NFL Gambling Free Pick: Dallas Cowboys at Green Bay Packers

Dallas at Green Bay
Sunday, 1:30 pm PT - FOX
CRIS Opener: Green
Bay -7 O/U 47
CRIS Current: Green Bay -5.5 O/U 47
Recommendation: Green Bay

Just a few weeks ago, Dallas was a +3 underdog at Washington. Now, they’re +5.5 at Lambeau Field against the Packers. My numbers show nearly a touchdown’s worth of difference between the Redskins and Packers. Clearly, the markets are pretty high on Dallas right now.

The Cowboys have certainly exceeded early season expectations with rookie Dak Prescott behind center. Then again, Dallas hasn’t exactly faced a murderer’s row of foes. Their first three wins came against the aforementioned Redskins, the Bears and the 49ers. Then, last week, they were home dogs against the Bengals, but Cinci showed up completely flat, while Dallas brought their A-game.

So we’re talking about a team that beat two bottom feeders, one mediocre foe and one team that just didn’t show. Now they’re supposed to be able to go to Green Bay and hang for 60 minutes? I’m not buying it!

There’s been some talk Read more

NFL Gambling Update: Denver says Siemian likely to start vs. San Diego

10.11.2016     09:09 AM     Printer Friendly
UPDATE

The Denver Broncos claim that quarterback Trevor Siemian will start Thursday's game against San Diego. Denver opened -3 but has since been bet up to -3 (-125)/-3.5.

“He’s very close,” Kubiak said Sunday of Siemian. “He did everything he could for us all week long, but we had to make a decision that at the end of the week, when it’s time to go, he tried to get there. He worked extremely hard to get there. We just didn’t think he was ready.”

NFL Gambling: Baltimore Ravens fire offensive coordinator Trestman

10.11.2016     08:41 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The Baltimore Ravens fired offensive coordinator Marc Trestman following Sunday's 16-10 home loss to Washington. The Ravens topped 20 points in only eight of Trestman's 21 games. They currently rank 22nd in total yards per game (338.2) and 28th in yards per play (4.8). Quarterbacks coach Marty Mornhinweg was promoted. Baltimore is currently a +3 road underdog at the New York Giants for Week 6.

"After very careful consideration, I have decided to make a change to our offensive coaching staff and have replaced Marc Trestman with Marty Mornhinweg as offensive coordinator for the rest of the season," coach John Harbaugh said in a statement.
