College Basketball Betting: Kansas Jayhawks thinking revenge, backflip

Washington State at Arizona State -6.5
Recommendation: Arizona State

I posted a free play winner in support of Arizona State in their last game; an outright Sun Devils upset win as 7.5 point underdogs at Colorado.  And there’s absolutely no reason to do anything different in regards to Herb Sendek’s squad tonight; an undervalued commodity for months now.

Arizona State has hit 67% against the spread over their last 18 lined ballgames dating back to the beginning of December, including a 75% ATS mark as favorites of 6.5 points or higher – exactly the pointspread that we find them in tonight.  It all starts with point guard Jahii Carson, averaging more than 19 points per game in his last ten contests.

But Carson isn’t doing it by himself.   7-2 center Jordan Bachynski is blocking nearly four shots per game, a true low post defensive dominator.  Carrick Felix has already been named the Read more

Texas A&M pk at Auburn
Recommendation: Texas A&M

Add Auburn head coach Tony Barbee to a growing list of head coaches whose postgame conferences seem dominated by listing their team’s shortcomings. The frustrated leader let everyone know that he feels Auburn’s leadership, effort and individual talent is not good enough to win games at this point. Barbee got no argument from junior forward Allen Payne who added, “Like coach says — and you know how honest he is — we can’t win these games off talent, we don’t have enough right now. But if we fight and we compete and we put forth the effort that we need to put forth, we’ll be fine in these games.” Not exactly a ringing endorsement. Combine the ultra-negative tone with their 1-9 straight up record over the last 10 games and it becomes extremely difficult to back Auburn in a pick ‘em contest. However, fading them with a more talented and hungrier Read more

College Basketball Handicapping: Minnesota and Ohio State limp into Wednesday's matchup

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Minnesota at Ohio State -5.5 O/U 126

It's a lot easier handicap a game when one team comes in off a horrific performance rather than two. Such is the case with tonight’s Minnesota-Ohio State matchup. The Buckeyes were destroyed by Wisconsin, 71-49, in Madison. The Golden Gophers were just as bad as a 16-point lead somehow turned into a 21-point loss at Iowa. Needless to say, the key word from both camps following their defeats was "embarrassed."

"I think I can speak for the team, we are embarrassed," Smith said. "We not only embarrassed ourselves, we embarrassed our coaching staff, our university, our school president and our fans. We embarrassed everybody. We didn't Read more

College Basketball Betting Recap: Indiana survives, Florida falters late

02.20.2013     07:24 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Submitted by Stat Intelligence

I know the AP poll shows Florida down at #5. But, most of the reasonable metrics out there had some variation of Indiana and Florida at #1 and #2 in the nation entering tonight's play. Both were on the road this evening facing what might have been their toughest conference tests of the season. Indiana passed. Florida looked like they were going to pass with flying colors, but fell apart in such dramatic fashion that you have to wonder if they're really ready to run the table in the Dance when they'll have to play 40-minute games against opponents who know what they're doing.

Let's run the numbers...

Indiana 72, Michigan State 68

2-Point Percentage: Indiana 44%, Michigan State 49%

3-Point Shooting: Indiana 8/18, Michigan State 4/15

Free Throws: Indiana 10/15, Michigan State 16/23

1’s and 2’s: Indiana 48, Michigan State 56

Rebounds: Indiana 28, Michigan State 31

Turnovers: Indiana 10, Michigan State Read more

College Basketball Gambling: Markets starting to catch up with Miami Hurricanes

02.20.2013     06:53 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Quick betting recap of Miami's last seven games. Obviously a lot of the value has eroded after starting the season 12-3 ATS. If fact, if you've been betting against the Hurricanes of late, and have been able to get the best of the number, you've made a decent chunk of change. The results based on the closing numbers has Miami 3-3-1 ATS over its last seven. But CRIS's line history shows that 2-4-1 or 2-5 to be a more realistic tally.

1/30 at Virginia Tech - Miami opened as an 11-point favorite and closed -9. The Hurricanes won by 9, 73-64.

2/3 at NC State - Miami opened a pick 'em but was bet up to as high as -2.5. The Hurricanes won by 1, 79-78. A majority of bettors who supported the Wolfpack won or at least pushed. Those who got the best of the number with Miami also were able to cash.

2/5 vs. Boston College - A wire-to-wire 72-50 win for Miami (-13.5).

2/9 vs. North Carolina - Another easy win and cover as the Hurricanes rolled, 87-61, as 7.5-point chalk.

2/13 at Florida State - A last second run-out bucket by Miami caused plenty of pleasure Read more

College Basketball Betting Free Play: Valparaiso Crusaders at Loyola-Chicago Ramblers

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Valparaiso -6 at Loyola Chicago
Recommendation: Valparaiso

Loyola has been an overvalued commodity for much of the season at home. Prior to Saturday's win over rival UIC, the Ramblers failed to cover six straight at the Gentile Center. Tonight they play host to an opponent in Valparaiso that is eager for a big win. To start, the Crusaders are looking for payback after losing on their home court to the Ramblers back in early January. Second, after blowing Saturday's game against Detroit, Valpo's lead in the conference standings is only a half game. But the real key to this game is the health of Loyola’s Cully Payne and Ben Averkamp. Loyola managed a "hump up effort" without the duo against weaker UIC. Tonight against a far better opponent, their absence could be magnified. In the first meeting, Payne and Averkamp combined for 30 points and 12 assists. As of this morning, Payne (thumb) is doubtful and Averkamp (concussion) is questionable. Read more
