College Football Gambling: Virginia Cavaliers make switch at quarterback

11.15.2016     10:32 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
It's been a rough first season for Virginia's Bronco Mendenhall as the Cavaliers (2-8) enter this weekend's game at Georgia Tech on a five-game losing streak. Despite starting all of last season, quarterback Matt Johns was passed over for Kurt Benkert. Johns threw for 2,810 yards, 20 TDs and 17 INTs in 2015. That production was nearly identical to that of Benkert but Mendenhall feels that the senior Johns deserves a chance to close out his career with some PT. The Yellow Jackets are currently priced as -11.5 home chalk.

College Football Betting Update: Washington Huskies lose another key defender

11.15.2016     10:21 AM     Printer Friendly
UPDATE

Another key defensive injury for the Washington Huskies as linebacker and team-leading tackler Azeem Victor will miss the rest of the season with a broken leg. As mentioned last week, the Huskies' stop unit saw a decline in production following the loss of Joe Mathis. Over the last four games, Washington has recorded only four sacks and in the process covered only one game and obviously suffered their first loss of the season last week against USC. Mathis and Victor have combined for 60 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and five sacks. Washington is currently -27 home favorites vs. Arizona State for Saturday.

College Football Betting: Bettors with multiple opportunities to fade teams off of emotional games

11.14.2016     09:33 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
If you like betting against college football teams off of "big" games, this is the week for you.

Clemson
Last Week: Lost to Pitt, 43-32. Tigers' first loss of the season. Despite loss, still with a chance to reach the playoffs.
This Week: -21.5 at Wake Forest.

Pittsburgh
Last Week: Beat No. 2 Clemson and in the process became bowl eligible.
This Week: -8 vs. Duke. The Blue Devils are off a "big" win of their own as they took down rival North Carolina, 28-27. Bad spot for Pitt but injury-riddled Duke is off three straight games decided by three points or less.

Michigan
Last Week: Lost at Iowa, 14-13.
This Week: -25.5 vs. Indiana. Don't forget regular season finale at Columbus.

Iowa
Last Week: For the third straight game, the Hawkeyes failed to top 250 total yards. No matter, they saved their season with a 14-13 win over Big Blue.
This Week: -10.5 at Illinois.

Washington
Last Week: Lost to USC, 26-13. Talk that a one-loss PAC-12 team would have a difficult time getting into the Read more

College Football Betting Preview: South Florida Bulls at Memphis Tigers

South Florida at Memphis
Saturday, 4 pm PT - ESPNU
CRIS Opener:
South Florida -4 O/U 75.5
CRIS Current: South Florida -3 O/U 73.5
Recommendation: Over

South Florida’s up-tempo offensive attack is poised to have success against Memphis on Saturday. The Bulls have yet to be held below 30 points in a game this season. They rank tops in AAC play at nearly 7 yards per play and over 500 ypg. Quarterback Quinton Flowers and running back Marlon Mack anchor what has been a very balanced attack. Of USF's nine games, they've rushed for 200+ eight times and passed for 200+ seven times. That is bad news for a Memphis defense that has struggled against better competition. In games against Tulsa, Navy, Temple, and Ole Miss, Memphis allowed 44 ppg. And against the run (USF's best attribute) Memphis checks in a dead last in AAC play at 232.8 ypg allowed. On the flip side, Memphis' offense should have no trouble moving the football either. They've hung 34, 24, 28, 30 and 51 points in their last five games. And South Florida’s defense has shown cracks in the armor of late surrendering 91 combined points and Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Michigan Wolverines at Iowa Hawkeyes

Michigan at Iowa
Saturday, 5 pm PT - ABC
CRIS Opener:
Michigan -17.5 O/U 50
CRIS Current: Michigan -22 O/U 51.5
Recommendation: First half over

The Michigan first half over train continues as last week the Wolverines jumped out to a 35-0 half time lead over Maryland. And it's not just first halves as Michigan is also 7-2 O/U from a full game perspective. And if you're worried Jim Harbaugh may let off the pedal at some point, don't. In the win over the Terps, UM scored two fourth quarter touchdowns; the last of which via the pass with three minutes remaining. This week's opponent, Iowa, serves as yet another opportunity to step on a neck.

Iowa's schedule has been laughable in terms of opposing offenses. Miami-Ohio, Rutgers, and Wisconsin all rank 101st or worse in total offense. Iowa State, Minnesota, and Northwestern check in at 89th, 83rd, and 96th respectively. The two "top" offenses the Hawkeyes faced were Purdue (58th) and Penn State (59th). And in those two games, Iowa allowed 76 points and 7.3 yards per play. Michigan of course is significantly better offensively that those Read more

College Football Gambling Alert: Texas A&M and Ole Miss lose starting quarterbacks

11.08.2016     12:48 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Battle of backup quarterbacks this weekend in College Station with Ole Miss' Chad Kelly and Texas A&M's Trevor Knight both on the shelf. Neither team has committed to a starter as of Tuesday afternoon. Ole Miss went with redshirt frosh Jason Pellerin following Kelly's departure and proceeded to run the ball on 21 of its next 26 plays. Jake Hubenak stepped in for Knight and completed 11-of-17 for 222 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT. Note that Texas A&M also lost starting right guard Connor Lanfear for the season. Sportsbooks have not posted a line on the game.

“I think that with a week of practice it (the offense) can be expanded from what you saw the other night, but will it be what Chad (Kelly) has done? Probably not," coach Hugh Freeze said. "Regardless of who goes at quarterback whether it is him (Pellerin), (Markell) Pack,

College Football Betting Preview: Vanderbilt Commodores at Missouri Tigers

Vanderbilt at Missouri
Saturday, 12:30 pm PT - SEC
CRIS Opener:
Missouri -1 O/U 50
CRIS Current: Missouri -4 O/U 52.5
Recommendation: Over

Prior to last week, South Carolina had yet to post 400+ yards of total offense in a game. They racked up 428 yards and 31 points against Missouri which marked yet another team that had little difficulty moving the football against the Tigers' stop unit. Over its last five games, Mizzou has allowed 42, 40, 51, 35, and 31 points. Four of those opponents were from the SEC (LSU, Florida, Kentucky, and South Carolina) and all of them rank in the bottom half the league in total offense. All of the top offenses in the SEC reside in the West Division and Missouri has played only LSU, arguably the weakest of the bunch. The Bayou Bengals rolled up 634 yards en route to a 42-7 win.

Vanderbilt, however, ranks dead last in the SEC at 311.9 ypg. In six games against power conference teams, the Commodores have yet to top 17 points. Even against the likes of MTSU and Western Kentucky, Vandy failed to top 400 yards though was handed a number of short fields thanks to five Read more

College Football Gambling: Washington loses key defender

11.08.2016     09:53 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Here's an injury worth mentioning. Washington announced that linebacker Joe Mathis will miss the rest of the season with a foot injury. Mathis, the team leader in sacks and tackles for loss, hasn't played the last three weeks and the stats indicate his absence was felt. With Mathis on the field, Washington racked up 24 sacks and 47 TFLs in six games. Without Mathis, the Huskies had only three sacks and nine TFLs in three games. UW's stop unit is loaded with future NFL draft picks, but Mathis' production is hard to ignore. The Huskies are currently -9 home favorites vs. USC for Saturday.
