Sunday NBA Free Betting Pick: Sacramento Kings at Phoenix Suns

Submitted by ER Sports

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Sacramento +5.5 at Phoenix O/U 204.5
Recommendation: Sacramento

Sacramento travels to Phoenix tonight for a showdown of two of the lesser Western Conference teams. Following the dismissal of head coach Paul Westphal, the Kings have gradually played better under Keith Smart. This really isn’t a surprise as the players genuinely disliked Westphal. In addition, they’ve caught a spark of late with Isaiah Thomas running the point guard position. The Kings have pushed the pace more with Thomas at the helm and have created more ball movement on offense. There’s certainly talent on this basketball team, and one could argue they’ll have the talent edge in this matchup. Meanwhile, the Suns are off a pleasing win over the LA Clipper on ESPN Friday night. They just haven’t proven themselves to be marginally better than even the lower-tier teams in the NBA this season. In fact, the Suns are just 2-5 ATS when favored by five points or more. The Suns were beaten by Read more

NBA Handicapping: First half Against The Spread winners and losers

02.26.2012     08:03 AM     ER Sports     Printer Friendly
Submitted by ER Sports

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
There are many words to throw around for the first half of this NBA lockout shortened season.  It certainly hasn’t followed suit from previous campaigns, with many adjustments needed to be made.  Let’s be honest, handicapping a team playing three straight days is a completely new science.  Let’s take a look at the teams that performed the best against the spread in the first half of the season, while also noting the bottom feeders.

In pretty amazing fashion, if you take the best straight up records from the Eastern and Western Conference last year and the NBA champs, you come up with the top three ATS squads through the halfway point of 2011-12.  It is almost impossible to convey how incredible that is because beating the books is rarely if ever that simple or easy.  The San Antonio Spurs lead the way with a 21-13 ATS mark, followed by the Chicago Bulls at 21-14, and finally the Dallas Mavericks at 20-14.  The Mavericks are probably the most interesting case after opening the season with two embarrassing losses on their home court.  Of course, those results make sense to a large degree with continuity, Read more

Sunday NBA Free Betting Pick: Denver Nuggets at Oklahoma City Thunder

02.19.2012     08:11 AM     ER Sports     Printer Friendly
Submitted by ER Sports

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Denver +8.5 at Oklahoma City O/U 209
Recommendation: Denver

The Nuggets will be looking forward to this match-up tonight on ESPN.  Of course, it was the Thunder who broke up Denver’s sensational second half run last season.  The Nuggets were overwhelmed at times during that playoff series and eventually swept.  Again, you can count on George Karl and the Nuggets circling this game on their calendar as they look for playoff revenge.  The Nuggets have struggled on the court of late, while losing seven of their last nine.  Injuries have hampered this team, and they expect to be without Nene for this showdown.  The schedule has been unforgiving for this team as you could clearly see in a few recent games there was simply little in the gas tank.  Meanwhile, the Thunder have played a tough schedule as well posting a 5-3 record over their last eight games.  As usual the Thunder tend to out-firepower their opposition with the combination of Kevin Read more

NBA Betting Stock Watch: Memphis Grizzlies earn the Buy Sign

02.19.2012     07:42 AM     ER Sports     Printer Friendly

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Buy the Memphis Grizzlies – We rode the Grizzlies all the way to the bank last season – supporting them before the betting marketplace caught on.  They were a pointspread darling last season and then some.  Including the playoffs, Memphis covered an amazing 65% of its games last season. We suspected that they’d have their work cut out for them in this lockout shortened season and that has proved correct as the Grizzlies are 15-16 ATS nearing the halfway point of the campaign.  Depth has always been a concern with this team and adding to it is the injury situation with Zach Randolph and Darrell Arthur missing on the inside.  Head coach Lionel Hollins has faced little choice but to log his core six players a ton of minutes.  One of the crucial keys for the Grizzlies last season was their awesome display of energy on a nightly basis.  Again, with so many games packed into this shortened season, at times, the energy level just hasn’t been there.  However, keep a stern eye on the Grizzlies after the All-Star break.  Their schedule let’s up immensely.  This will give this team ample time to Read more
