NCAAF ATS Preview: Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Syracuse Orange

09.01.2011     10:11 AM     Andrew Lange     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Andrew Lange

copy_cfb_game_previews_11.jpg

Wake Forest at Syracuse (5pm – ESPN3)
CRIS Opening Line:
Syracuse -6 O/U 49.5
CRIS Current Line: Syracuse -6.5 O/U 48.5
Rob Veno Power Rating: Syracuse -5
Teddy Covers Power Rating: Syracuse -8

Andrew Lange's Betting Take: For the first time since 2001, Syracuse got to enjoy a winning season, going 8-5 and 4-3 in Big East play. The jump was perhaps a bit shocking, especially if you watched the Orange play, but you don’t post road wins at West Virginia, Cincinnati, USF and Rutgers without having some ability. Head coach Doug Marrone knows what he is doing and has this program believing it can compete for a Big East title.

While Syracuse was busy trending upwards in 2010, Wake Read more

College Football Pointspread Preview: Oregon Ducks vs. LSU Tigers

08.31.2011     01:35 PM     Otto Sports     Printer Friendly

Oregon vs. LSU (Arlington, Texas, 5 pm PT – ABC)
CRIS Opening Line:
Oregon -2.5 O/U 55.5
CRIS Current Line: Oregon -4 O/U 55
Rob Veno Power Rating: Oregon -5
Teddy Covers Power Rating: Oregon -2.5

Marty Otto’s Betting Take: This is the biggest game of the weekend and one that potentially carries national title implications. It would be refreshing to focus on the matchups on the field but with both starting quarterbacks running into trouble with the law much of the pregame hype has been centered on eligibility issues. Jordan Jefferson is suspended for LSU which scoots backup Jarrett Lee into the starting gig. As much as Tigers fans and some in the media like to hate on Jefferson for his poor decision making as a passer, he at least added another dimension to his game with his ability to run (seven rushing TDs last season, second leading rusher). Lee is a career 54% passer Read more

NCAA Handicapper Game Preview: TCU Horned Frogs at Baylor Bears

08.31.2011     09:32 AM     Otto Sports     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Otto Sports

copy_cfb_game_previews_11.jpg

TCU at Baylor (Friday, 5 pm PT – ESPN)
CRIS Opening Line:
TCU -6.5 O/U 57
CRIS Current Line: TCU -6 O/U 56.5
Rob Veno Power Rating: TCU -8
Teddy Covers Power Rating: TCU -7.5

Marty Otto’s Betting Take: The first proverbial “revenge" game of the season takes place in Waco on Friday night as Baylor is out for blood against highly ranked and highly regarded TCU. Fresh off a perfect 13-0 season and a Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin, much is expected from the Horned Frogs in 2011. This despite the fact that they must replace second round draft choice and four-year starter Andy Dalton, Mr. Everything Jeremy Kerley, top sack master Wayne Daniels, and four offensive linemen. I have no doubt Read more

College Football Gambling Preview: UNLV Rebels at Wisconsin Badgers

UNLV at Wisconsin (Thursday, 5 pm PT – ESPN)
CRIS Opening Line:
Wisconsin -35 O/U 54.5
CRIS Current Line: Wisconsin -35 O/U 56
Rob Veno Power Rating: Wisconsin -33.5
Teddy Covers Power Rating: Wisconsin -40.5

Marty Otto’s Betting Take: The Rebels travel east to begin the season with a primetime ESPN tilt. This is a return matchup from last season where Wisconsin won in Las Vegas, 41-21. The score looked closer than the actual play on the field – Wisconsin outgained UNLV by 258 yards – but the spread was very much in play (plenty of 20 and 20.5 available). Of course the big news this offseason in Madison was the transfer of Russell Wilson from NC State and the dynamic rushing Read more

NCAAF Betting Preview: Rutgers sticks with run-based offense

08.22.2011     01:22 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
It is common practice throughout college football that when a particular offensive or defensive system doesn't work a change occurs. The best example of this is teams who can't score often opt for up-tempo, spread offenses in hopes of duplicating Oregon-like numbers. But the move can sometimes backfire, especially when you don't have the personnel to run it properly. Rutgers is taking the complete opposite approach and sticking to the pro-style, run based offense 11th year head coach Greg Schiano has been noted for. We view this as a positive as a radical change in offensive philosophy can take a year or more to adapt to.

There will however be a learning curve as the Scarlet Knights brought in their third offensive coordinator in three years with former Pittsburgh/California OC Frank Cignetti hired this past offseason. According to Cignetti, Rutgers will do whatever it takes to Read more

NCAAF Betting Preview: Illinois has tools to win Big Ten Leaders Division

08.17.2011     12:06 PM     Andrew Lange     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Andrew Lange

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
In reading some of the Big Ten offseason/preseason talk, little to no attention has been paid to Illinois. Wisconsin nabbed Russell Wilson, Ohio State is in trouble with the law, Joe Paterno got tackled in practice, Indiana's new head coach is a fiery dude, Nebraska is going to crush, Northwestern is a dark horse contender, Michigan could go 10-2 or 2-10...the list goes on. But outside of all of the hoopla, the Illini lie seemingly in weeds with what looks to be a good shot at a banner season. The No. 1 thing in their favor is a very manageable schedule. With five straight home games to open the season followed by a trip to Indiana, it is very possible the Illini could start out 5-1 or 6-0. They have the easiest road slate in the Big Ten with games at Indiana, Purdue, Penn State and Minnesota – should be favored in at least three of those four contests. All of their “tough” opponents travel to Champaign (Arizona State, Ohio Read more
