Betting trends for the NFL Preseason

08.28.2010     03:09 PM         Printer Friendly
Submitted by

We’re in action tonight with a top-rated Big Drive play and look to improve on our 4-2 NFLX start. Included in our winning results was our O/U Preseason Game of the Year winner when San Francisco beat the Vikings 15-10. It was a game we projected to be a low scoring contest and wrote about it in our Sportsmemo Blog.

Tonight we’ll fire a Fairway Free play in the Battle of the Bay. Oakland hosts San Francisco and both teams enter 2-0. Note that both defenses have controlled play in their early preseason contests, as San Francisco held Minnesota to just 3 points and under 150 total yards until a late TD scramble by fourth-string QB Joe Webb. Prior to that, the 49ers defense held the Colts to just 235 yards total offense and 3.5 yards- per-play. The Raiders defense has also been solid thus far, holding the Cowboys to 263 total yards and 4.0 yards-per-play and the Bears to 274 total yards and 11 first downs. Both Raiders Read more

Atlanta Braves continue late-inning heroics

08.17.2010     09:35 AM     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Fairway Jay

The Braves continued their late-inning heroics Monday night as Atlanta rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the dumbfounded Dodgers 4-3.  It’s uncanny how the LA Dodgers continue to find ways to lose ballgames, and quite the opposite for the Braves. With Atlanta's last-inning win, the Braves posted their major-league-leading 20th final at-bat victory.

Atlanta also leads the majors with 207 runs in the seventh inning or later and the Braves are a major-league-best 42-16 (.724) at home this season.  With 23 home games remaining, the Braves have already topped their home victory total for the 2009 season (40-41) and currently lead the Phillies by 2.5 games in the NL East.

We provided a complimentary winner Saturday and cashed both a 5-inning and game winner on the Dodgers in their 2-1 win over the Braves.  Atlanta is just 7th in the NL in runs scored, but now +101 in run differential to trail only the Read more

Petrino has reporter canned; Team inconsistent at recent scrimmage

08.17.2010     07:04 AM     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Fairway Jay

Apparently Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino isn't in the best of moods. Local reporter Renee Gork was recently fired for wearing a Florida Gators hat to a press conference. When  Gork asked Petrino a question, he responded but said, "And that will be the last question I answer with that hat on." The incident led to "heated discussions" online, which in turn led to Gork's firing. Gork was reportedly a Florida alum.   In other news, there were varying reports on Arkansas' weekend scrimmage. Some said the play was sloppy while others (the school’s official website) claimed the Read more

MLB Betting Free Play: Dodgers vs. Braves

08.14.2010     10:20 AM     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Fairway Jay

The Dodgers have been burning money and losing lots of ground in the NL West since the All-Star break. Los Angeles is just 2-12 their last 14 road games and the losses seem to get uglier. Last night LA suffered another tough setback losing 1-0 at Atlanta. All-Star closer Jonathan Broxton has lost his confidence and lost his closer job for now. Broxton has a 9.87 ERA his last 14 appearances. Questions arise about the mental makeup of this team, but no doubting the confidence level of LA starter Ted Lilly. The newly acquired left-hander has been terrific in two starts for the Dodgers, allowing just 3 runs and 7 hits in 13 innings while striking out 11 with no walks. Lilly has a .218 ERA his last five starts and Braves batters are not likely to have success against the solid veteran left-hander. Braves batters are actually struggling, hitting just .228 this month with Heyward, Glaus, Diaz and Ankiel all hitting under .220 in August. Meanwhile, the Dodgers have Read more

NFL Betting Free Play: Bears vs. Chargers

We’re off to a 2-0 start in NLFX preseason football after last night’s easy ‘over’ the total winner in Washington; a 42-17 Redskins route over the Buffalo Bills. We’re passing on tonight’s preseason football, but here’s a little note about the Bears defense as former Chicago safety Chris Harris returns to the Bears this season and says ''we're a little faster and have more team speed” this season.

Harris and former Panthers teammate Julius Peppers provide the Bears some instant impact players to join a talented all-pro linebacking core of Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs and Hunter Hillenmeyer. With Tommy Harris manning the middle and Daniel Manning re-joining Harris in the secondary at strong safety, the Bears could feature another dominating defense with the return to health for many players and acquisition of top talent.

The Chargers are Read more

The 92nd PGA Championship returns to Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin. While the players get the attention and we shoot to beat the bookmaker, the PGA of America gets their chance to shine while promoting the popularity of golf. Vijay Singh won in a playoff at the 2004 PGA Championship on the ‘Straits’ course…par 72 and over 7,500 yards. The great designer and architect Pete Dye created this masterpiece along the banks of Lake Michigan and if you’re not ‘on course’ and struggling from the tee then expect a ‘rough’ week. Eight holes border the great body of water and the raw freshness of Scotland is sculpted along the Lake Michigan coastline with open, rugged and windswept terrain defining the links-style course.

The PGA pros will be challenged by plenty of blind shots and some gimmicks, along with nearly 1000 sand spots and Read more

Minnesota (Baker) at Chicago (Garcia)
Recommendation: Minnesota -105 5-inning; Over 9
Twins and White Sox open a key three-game series tonight as they are tied for first place in the AL Central at 63-49 apiece.  Minnesota concludes a 10-game road trip; both teams will play again next week in Minneapolis. Twins starter Scott Baker has a 32-2 K/BB ratio his last five road games covering 31 innings.  He enters off one of his best starts of the year with eight shutout innings and just three hits allowed in a 2-1 win at Tampa Bay.  He did not get decision in that contest.  Baker shut down the White Sox in his lone start back in early April allowing just one run and five hits in seven innings on the road – also a 2-1 Twins win. Freddy Garcia was a bit fortunate last time out at Detroit allowing nine base runners in six+ innings but allowed only one run.  Bobby Jenks blew the game for Garcia after allowing three runs, but Chicago went on to win 6-4 in 10 innings.  Garcia is 7-1 Read more

MLB losers lack consistent hitting

08.10.2010     09:19 AM     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Fairway Jay

Back in June I suffered some tough low-scoring losses when teams I played against generated few hits and little offense. We still provided a profitable month and then suffered some similar setbacks in July before finishing the month with nearly +7 units of MLB profits. As I looked back on July 3rd we had the ugly Astros at a big plus price and they out-hit the Padres but lost 1-0 as San Diego managed just five hits. The Astros (47-63) improved and managed to go 13-11 in July and produce profits for baseball bettors with the balls to bet ‘em. Houston is now even money for the season despite a big losing record. We took another hit in late July when the Brewers managed just three hits yet beat the Reds 3-2. True to form, the brutal Brewers then lost five straight games; all by at least three runs. The Reds are the no. 2 profit-producing team in baseball.   It can be frustrating when you handicap a game and expect your opponent to struggle only to lose the game when Read more

Blue Jays ready for stretch drive; Search for new manger

SportsMemo.com blog entry.

The Blue Jays called up catcher J.P. Arencibia for tonight’s contest against Tampa Bay. The 2007 first round pick from the University of Tennessee is expected to make his MLB debut after starting catcher John Buck suffered a thumb injury and was put on the 15-day disabled list. Arencibia has been tearing up Triple-A Las Vegas, hitting .303 with 31 HRs and 79 RBIs in 95 games.

Toronto manger Cito Gaston will step aside after this season and move into a advisors role. The search has begun for a new Blue Jay’s manager, and Gaston speaks highly of young 33-year old GM Alex Anthopoulos as well as the positive environment in the clubhouse and direction the team is going. That said, the Blue Jays showed this past series against Read more

MLB Betting Free Play: San Francisco at Colorado

San Francisco (Bumgarner) +170 at Colorado (Jimenez) - DAY GAME 12:10 pm PT start
Recommendation: San Francisco

We cashed an easy underdog winner last night with the Giants as they crushed Aaron Cook and roughed up the Rockies 10-0. I’m in action with a Big Drive Big ‘Dog again today, but thought this big ‘dog was worth a small shot too. The Giants (62-45) have made a big move in the NL West and are playing their best ball as they now trail the Padres by just one game. Tonight they face the ultimate test against the leagues best pitcher, Ubaldo Jimenez (16-2). The Giants are 14-3 their last 17 road games and must be considered again today as big overlay at Coors Field.   The Giants send rookie Madison Bumgarner to the hill. The 2007 first round pick just turned 21 three days ago and he has been terrific in seven starts this season (2.70 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 3-to-1 K/BB ratio). A big plus price facing Ubaldo Read more
