College Football Betting: Florida State a massive favorite over underdog Duke

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Duke vs. Florida State -29 O/U 61.5

It is safe to say that everyone associated with the Duke football program is aware of the pointspread for Saturday's ACC Championship against No. 1 Florida State. To put that massive pointspread in perspective, earlier this season the Seminoles were laying -17 at home vs. Maryland and -21 vs. Miami – Duke beat the Hurricanes by 18 at home. But FSU is no stranger to winning by margin with only one game (48-34 win at Boston College) decided by less than four touchdowns.

"We know it's going to be a great challenge this Saturday playing the No. 1 team in the country, and we know nobody is going to give us a chance to win,'' Duke senior offensive guard Dave Harding said Monday. "That's business as usual for Duke football. We've been underdogs since the day I got here. We embrace that role.''

College Football Handicapping: Season Over/Under Wins Recap

12.02.2013     11:12 AM     Printer Friendly
Let's revisit this year's college football regular season over/under wins and see how everyone fared. We graded the plays using Pinnacle's lines from late July. Louisville is the only team still "live" with the Cardinals lined at 10.5 wins and 10-1 heading into Thursday's game at Cincinnati. Heartbreak city or jubilation for bettors who were in play with Wisconsin. This past weekend the Badgers were sitting 9-2 and 25-point chalk at home against Penn State but lost outright. Missouri was this year's biggest overachiever; lined at 6ov-123 and finished 11-1. Auburn was right behind them going four wins over its win total. Florida (-5), NC State (-4), and TCU (-4) were your biggest underachievers.

College Football Gambling: Fresno's perfect season, BCS hopes come to an end

12.02.2013     10:39 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Taking a quick look at college football teams that were 10-0, lost a game, and how they fared the next time out. Pay particular attention to the non-AQ schools, Boise State and TCU, who needed to remain undefeated in order to remain in the BCS picture. In both instances, TCU and BSU won SU but failed to cover in their final regular season game. Fresno's BCS hopes were crushed following last week's loss to San Jose though the Bulldogs don't have a regular season finale but instead play host to Utah State for the Mountain West Championship.

10-0 Teams off a Loss (7-0 SU, 4-3 ATS)
2012: Kansas State SU and ATS Win vs. Texas
2012: Oregon SU and ATS Win at Oregon State
2011: Oklahoma State SU and ATS Win vs. Oklahoma
2010: Boise State SU Win, ATS Loss vs. Utah State
2008: Texas Tech SU Win, ATS Loss vs. Baylor
2007: Ohio State SU and ATS Win at Michigan
2003: TCU SU Win, ATS Loss at SMU

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wise Guy Report: Betting on Bad NFL Teams Down the Stretch

12.02.2013     08:02 AM     Teddy Covers     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Teddy Covers

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
I’ve spent the last two weeks breaking down playoff contenders in both the AFC and NFC. But the playoffs are still a month away. There are still four more regular season games to be played for every team in the NFL; a full quarter of the season. That’s why I’m taking a hard look in the opposite direction this week; breaking down the bottom feeders.

Bottom feeders in December are a mixed breed. Some squads tank; done with their season. Other bottom feeders play their best ball down the stretch, building momentum for next year.

Look at last year for some prime examples. The Lions went 0-5 SU, 1-4 ATS in five December games a season ago; the lone pointspread cover coming by a single point in their meaningless season finale defeat. Philly went 1-4 SU at the tail end of the Andy Reid era, and got blown out in each of their final three games, losing by a combined nine touchdowns in those contests. Arizona, Buffalo, the New York Jets, Cleveland, Jacksonville and Kansas City – all teams that were considered ‘bottom feeders’ at this time last year – each finished with a losing SU and ATS mark in their five December Read more

College Football Handicapping: Conference Championship lines move off of key numbers

12.02.2013     06:24 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Early bettors got a jump on some key numbers for Saturday's conference championships. CRIS opened Auburn as a 3-point favorite vs. Missouri but it has since moved to -2/-1.5. In the PAC-12 Arizona State opened -3 vs. Stanford (game in Tempe) and was bet up to -3.5. The Ohio State-Michigan State line has bounced around with the Buckeyes opening -6.5 but down to -5.5. Fresno State hosts Utah State for the Mountain West Championship. The Bulldogs opened -3.5 but were bet down to -3 with juice. Florida State is north of a four touchdown favorite over Duke for the ACC title game. No line yet on C-USA's Marshall-Rice matchup. And on Friday, undefeated Northern Illinois is currently 3-point chalk vs. Bowling Green (game in Detroit).

NFL Betting Recap: Numbers and Notes From Thanksgiving Football

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Submitted by Stat Intelligence

Hope everyone had a great holiday. Let’s run the numbers from the three NFL games plus Texas Tech/Texas…

Detroit (-6.5) 40, Green Bay 10

G. Bay: 126 yards, 3.0 per-play, 3 turnovers, 20% third downs

Detroit: 561 yards, 7.1 per-play, 4 turnovers, 75% third downs

Other Numbers

Rushing Yards: Green Bay 24, Detroit 241

Passing Stats: Green Bay 10-20-1-102, Detroit 22-35-2-320

Drive Points: Green Bay 0, Detroit 24

Stat Score: Green Bay 7, Detroit 36

Sloppiness: Green Bay 25, Detroit 33

(Apparently it’s impossible to play well on a Thursday morning when you had to go overtime against a divisional rival the prior Sunday afternoon. Green Bay’s stats here are so bad that it boggles the mind. Their only TD came on a fumble return by the defense---Detroit is still a sloppiness machine even in blowout victories! You don’t see numbers like this in the NFL Read more

College Football Gambling Alert: SMU's Gilbert ruled out vs. Houston

SMU at Houston -9.5 O/U 64

SMU quarterback Garrett Gilbert (knee) has been ruled out for Friday's game at Houston. Redshirt frosh Neal Burcham will get the nod. Burcham completed 9 of 18 passes for 91 yards, 1 TDs and 1 INT in last week's game at South Florida. Prior to that, he hadn't seen the field since Week 3.

College Football Betting Preview: Ohio State Buckeyes at Michigan Wolverines

Ohio State -14 O/U 58
CRIS Current: Ohio State -14.5 O/U 57.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Ohio State -14
Teddy Covers' Recommendation: Ohio State

To say that the Buckeyes have a special chip on their shoulder this week is something of an understatement.  That’s very bad news for the Wolverines, especially when we consider Michigan’s significant offensive decline as the season has progressed.

The last time Ohio State visited the Big House, Michigan hung 40 on the Buckeyes in a win that snapped a seven game skid for the Wolverines.  Ohio State got right back on track last year, with a win and cover against Michigan in Columbus.  This series is still called a rivalry but it really hasn’t been much of a rivalry since Lloyd Carr left town.
