BCS Championship Betting Recap: Florida State wins but Auburn gets the cash

01.07.2014     07:16 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Submitted by Stat Intelligence

Great game! You probably watched. No need to rehash the play-by-play. Let’s see what the numbers say about the evening…

Florida State 34, Auburn (+11) 31

Florida State: 385 yards, 5.8 per-play, 1 turnovers, 17% third downs

Auburn : 462 yards, 5.8 per-play, 1 turnovers, 56% third downs

Other Numbers

Florida State: 148 rush, 20-35-0-237 passing, 17 drive points, 24 stat score, 20 sloppiness

Auburn: 232 rush, 14-27-1-230 passing, 17 drive points, 31 stat score, 18 sloppiness

Auburn got the best of it when it was offense vs. defense, which was a big surprise. In fact, they scored exactly what they were supposed to based on stat score (2 times rushing, plus passing, times 0.67, divided by 15). Florida State’s kickoff return TD saved the day for the Seminoles. Throw that in, and stat score becomes a 31-all tie in a game that ended 34-31.

Auburn jumped to a 21-3 lead against a seemingly Read more

Reche Caldwell busted for gambling ring

01.06.2014     12:09 PM     Printer Friendly
On Sunday Tampa Bay authorizes took down a local bookmaking operation involving former Florida and NFL wide receiver Reche Caldwell. In the raid, the cops confiscated cash, handguns, and drugs. Not the first Gator to run into trouble with gambling. Anyone remember Teddy Dupay?

College Football Betting: Florida State steamed up to -10.5 for tonight's BCS Championship

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Auburn vs. Florida State -10.5 O/U 68

You knew that the pointspread on tonight's BCS National Championship was going to move at some point with most sportsbooks sitting in that “dead number” range of 8/8.5 since early December. Over the course of the last 24 hours, Florida State appears to be the more attractive of the two sides according to the betting markets. The Seminoles have climbed to as high as -10.5 while the total has clicked up to 68 after an opener of 65. Yet despite the line move, Bookmaker is reporting that 65.5% of bets have been place on Auburn.

Floyd Mayweather has been busy this bowl season

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
It's been over three months since we last heard from our favorite sports bettor, Floyd Mayweather. Floyd has apparently been crushing bowl games with a moneyline win (+225) on Michigan State in its Rose Bowl win over Stanford and a somewhat random second half play (-4 adjusted) on Oklahoma in its Sugar Bowl upset of Alabama.

College Football Gambling: South Carolina irked about underdog status vs. Wisconsin

01.01.2014     05:50 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Wisconsin -2 vs. South Carolina O/U 51

Looks like South Carolina got word it's an underdog to a Big Ten squad.

"I was a little surprised," Badgers linebacker Chris Borland said this week. "We're confident that we're going to win. It's just this huge SEC bias out there that they're a great conference, which they are. But, yeah, I was surprised."

"I don't want to sound like a cocky type of guy, but I just kind of take it as a slap in the face," Sutton said this week. "We as a team collectively, we work hard and we bust our butts at practice every day and listen to what the coaches tell us to do. For us to be the highly ranked team coming into this game and be labeled as the underdog, we kind of take it as a slap in the face as a team Read more

Outback Bowl Betting Preview: Iowa Hawkeyes vs. LSU Tigers

Iowa vs LSU
Outback Bowl - Tampa, Fla.
Wednesday, 10 am PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
LSU -7 O/U 49.5
CRIS Current: LSU -7.5 O/U 49
Rob Veno's Power Rating: LSU -10
Teddy Covers' Recommendation: LSU

Kirk Ferentz has always had a tough time recruiting top notch talent to play in Iowa City for the Hawkeyes, and it hasn’t gotten easier as the Hawkeyes have fallen into mediocrity (or worse) in recent seasons.  Iowa hasn’t won more than eight games in a season since 2009.

This year they lost all three of their step-up-in-class games this year by double digit margins; blasted by Ohio State, Michigan State and Wisconsin.  Their problem is plain and simple – talent, or the lack thereof; good enough to beat up on the dregs of the Big 10, but not good enough to compete with the elites.

And make no mistake about it – LSU is elite, even with frosh QB Anthony Jennings Read more

College Football Handicapping: With new OC, Texas A&M may play faster

12.31.2013     08:16 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Duke vs. Texas A&M -12 O/U 75

Something to note for tonight's Chick-fil-A matchups between Texas A&M and Duke. The Aggies made a switch at offensive coordinator with Jake Spavital slated to call plays for the first time this season. Reports suggest that with Spavital on the sideline, the team may play at an even faster tempo. Tread carefully though as the total has already moved five points to the over.

"I believe that we might play at a faster pace just due to communication of cutting out the middleman, going from the press box to me to Johnny, which is now just a direct communication from me to Johnny." It is a point Manziel agrees with saying, "I think they will just come in quicker, hopefully get in more Read more

College Football Gambling: Rice wants physical game vs. Mississippi State

12.31.2013     08:00 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Mississippi State -7 vs. Rice O/U 50.5

Some pretty good quotes from Rice regarding today's Liberty Bowl matchup vs. Mississippi State. The Owls quietly transformed into a more physical, defensive-minded squad this season and it resulted in double-digit wins and a C-USA title.

"I don't mind saying that those shootouts that you see in Conference USA and even in the major conferences to be honest, aren't any fun for us to be involved in," Rice senior linebacker Michael Kutzler said. "Whether you win or lose those as a defensive player, you leave a shootout feeling really bad about yourself."

"I'm sure their fans look at us and think we're just a small, unathletic school from Conference USA," Rice safety Paul Porras said. "I don't see why we can't match up well with any team in the country in the trenches. We've won 10 Read more
