College Football Gambling Alert: Cook and Golson given OK to play vs. Clemson

11.06.2015     09:03 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Good news for Florida State backers, Dalvin Cook (ankle) and Everett Golson (concussion) have been cleared to play for Saturday's big ACC showdown at Clemson. Head coach Jimbo Fisher however declined to name Golson the starter after Sean Maguire chucked it around for 348 yards in last week's 45-21 win over Syracuse. Clemson opened as a -12 favorite but following the news of Cook and Golson, the line has been bet down to -10.5.

College Football Betting Preview: Vanderbilt Commodores at Florida Gators

Submitted by Andrew Lange blog entry.
Vanderbilt at Florida
Saturday, 9 am PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Florida -19 O/U 39.5
CRIS Current: Florida -21 O/U 36.5
Recommendation: Florida

If you just look at Vanderbilt's scores you'd immediately think the near three touchdown spread at Florida is simply too high. In SEC play, the Commodores lost to Georgia by 17, Ole Miss by 11, South Carolina by 9 and beat Missouri 10-9. But after seeing Georgia's true colors, acknowledging the poor spot for Ole Miss and uncharacteristically "clean" showing for Vandy (+2 turnover margin), as well as how weak South Carolina and Missouri have been, it's clear that the current line for their trip to Gainesville is at the very least justified.

I grade out the Gators as having one of the top defenses in the country meaning Vanderbilt's pedestrian offense is going to need a lot of magic to top 10 points. And that may be generous considering the Commodores failed to top that mark their last three games against Missouri, South Carolina, and Houston.

The question is can Florida produce enough offense to cover the number? The offense isn't Read more

College Football Handicapping: Markets push Illinois into historically bad spot

11.06.2015     07:13 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
We need to talk about the Illinois-Purdue pointspread for a minute. To start, the game opened a pick 'em with the Illini taking most of the early money with the line trickling up to -2. The move was understandable as the Illini have the more attractive statistical profile (-0.76 ypp vs. Big Ten) compared to the Boilermakers (-1.57 ypp). But yesterday’s -2 turned quickly into -5 putting Illinos in some rarified air. They've been favored in 10 Big Ten games since 2011 only twice since 2013 and both of which were against Purdue. Their track record in that profile is nothing short of horrific. Check out the results...

-10 vs. Purdue - SU Loss, ATS Loss

-6.5 at Purdue - SU Win, ATS Loss

-2 vs. Indiana - SU Loss, ATS Loss
-3 vs. Penn State - SU Loss, ATS Loss

-9.5 vs. Northwestern - SU Win, ATS Loss
-14 at Indiana - SU Win, ATS Win
-3.5 vs. Ohio State - SU Loss, ATS Loss
-3 at Purdue - SU Loss, ATS Loss
-1 vs. Michigan - SU Loss, ATS Loss
-10 at Minnesota - SU Loss, ATS Loss

College Football Betting Preview: Arizona Wildcats at USC Trojans

Arizona at USC
Saturday, 7:30 pm PT – ESPN
CRIS Opener:
USC -17 O/U 64
CRIS Current: USC -20 O/U 67
Recommendation: Arizona

USC still has a real shot at playing for the PAC-12 title courtesy of their 42-24 win over Utah a couple weeks back so have to believe interim head coach Clay Helton’s troops will be focused here. Conversely, Arizona is trying to get out of its own way and grab one more win to become bow eligible. Last week’s 49-3 loss at Washington was not statistically as dominant as the final score might indicate and even though they lost the turnover battle 4-0, only one of those turnovers resulted in Washington points. Inconsistency on defense crushed the Wildcats as 12 Washington drives (13th was just a series of kneel downs) resulted in six totaling 35 yards and 7 points but the other six went for 433 yards and 42 points. The defense has been miserable all season long allowing at least 467 total yards in seven of their nine games and all of their Pac-12 contests. This week’s matchup versus the well balanced USC offense isn’t likely to help any of Read more

College Football Betting: Hawaii goes with backup QB vs. UNLV

11.05.2015     08:07 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Hawaii announced that quarterback Ikaika Woosley will start Saturday's game at UNLV. On the season, Woosley is 28-of-55 for 311 yards, 1 TD and 3 INTs. This will also mark the first game since the departure of head coach Norm Chow. The Warriors are +9.5 road underdogs with a total of 54.5. It's Hawaii's fifth road trip in seven weeks.

“It could be game day (and) I could change my mind,” Naeole said. “Right now (Woolsey) is our guy and we’re going to support him.”

College Football Gambling: Baylor starts freshman QB vs. Kansas State

11.05.2015     07:57 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Baylor is very confident that freshman quarterback Jarrett Stidham will adequately fill the void of the injured Seth Russell. The Bears and Stidham had extra time to prepare for tonight's road trip to Kansas State having last played October 24. Baylor opened -16 and was bet up to -17. The total was bet down from 70 to 67.5/67.

"It's kind of hard playing an offense so fast," Coleman said. "Usually, quarterbacks are late on everything when they come in because they're used to the high school tempo. He got right to the program and did a great job. Why Seth was so good was because Jarrett was pushing him."

College Football Betting Preview: Stanford Cardinal at Colorado Buffaloes

Stanford at Colorado
Saturday, 10 am PT - PAC-12 Network
CRIS Opener:
Stanford -16 O/U 58
CRIS Current: Stanford -16 O/U 59
Recommendation: Colorado

My clients and I cashed an easy winner against Stanford last week in a similar double-digit road chalk role as they needed a last second field goal miss by Washington State to escape Pullman with the win. It was the first spread loss for the Cardinal since the infamous Week 1 loss at Northwestern.

Colorado got its first PAC-12 win of the season a couple weeks ago against Oregon State and then turned with a solid effort in last week’s 35-31 loss at UCLA. Colorado's success on the ground has been hit or miss but they remain committed to running the football and it played a big part in last week's easy cover vs. the Bruins as the Buffs rushed for 242 yards on 56 carries. All told, Colorado has run the ball more than any team in the PAC-12 and while it'll likely be tough sledding against Stanford, the Cardinal aren't nearly as dominant as year's past as they've allowed 4.35 yards per carry in league play.

Spot-wise, it's a dubious one Read more

College Football Gambling: Kentucky calls players-only meeting

11.04.2015     07:12 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
For the second straight season, Kentucky looks to be headed in the wrong direction. The Wildcats started 2014 5-1 but failed to make a bowl game after six straight losses to close the season. Similar situation this year as three straight losses have put UK's postseason hopes in question after a 4-1 start. Their last two games have been nothing short of embarrassing as Mississippi State and Tennessee outscored the Cats 94-37. This of course led to the dubious players-only meeting as the team preps for a road trip to Georgia.

“I’m glad we had it," sophomore running back Mikel Horton said, "because half of us were on the same page, and half of us weren’t on the same page. We actually sat down and talked within each other about what we need to fix, what we thought was working and what we think we need to do to make stuff work.”

“We just wanted to kind of reinforce it, just kind of make sure everybody was on the same page and just let everyone know what kind of

College Football Betting Preview: Michigan State Spartans at Nebraska Cornhuskers

11.03.2015     10:51 AM     Alex Smith     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Alex Smith blog entry.
Michigan State at Nebraska
Saturday, 4 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Michigan State -4.5 O/U 58
CRIS Current: Michigan State -5 O/U 58
Recommendation: Michigan State

Quiet as a mouse and undefeated Michigan State heads to Lincoln off of a bye week. Following an 0-6 ATS start, the Spartans have covered two straight. After posting nearly a yard-and-a-half advantage over their opponents a year ago, Sparty is a very modest +0.31 this season which is certainly reflective in their pointspread failures.

Meanwhile, Nebraska's disastrous season continues after an embarrassing 55-45 loss to Purdue which dropped their record to 3-6 on the season and 1-4 in conference play. Junior backup quarterback Ryker Fife started over the injured Tommy Armstrong Jr. and went 29-of-48 for 407 yards and 4 TDs, but also had 4 interceptions. While five of their losses have come by a total of 13 points, the Huskers are a team that can't seem to get out of their own way. Case in point, Nebraska has actually outgained the opposition this season but penalties (104th nationally) and turnovers (-8 margin, 113th nationally) Read more
