MLB Handicapper Free Play: St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers

07.13.2014     08:03 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
St. Louis (Martinez) at Milwaukee (Peralta) -115 O/U 8.5
Recommendation: Under

Two “premium stuff” arms take the hill this afternoon in Milwaukee.  St. Louis’ Carlos Martinez averages 98 mph with is fastball, while also offering a sinker, change-up and slurve.  He’s not a household name – yet – but owns some of the nastiest stuff around for a starting pitcher in the National League.  His repertoire is especially lethal on the right-handed bat, which is a perfect fit against the Brewers.  In his early career, Martinez owns a huge split with right-handers slugging just .276 against him, while left-handers see him much better at .469.  Meanwhile, Wily Peralta will take the bump for the Brew Crew.  Peralta deals off a sinker that averages 97 mph with a slider and still-developing change-up.  When Peralta’s right the sinker is all he needs, while garnering groundball after groundball.  Importantly, Peralta Read more

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The intentions were right – problem gambling is nothing to joke about – but you have to chuckle over a Singaporean anti-gambling ad that featured a kid who was bummed out by his dad's big bet on Germany to win the World Cup. Cheer up, little guy, your pops is live! Germany is currently a short favorite to beat Argentina for Sunday's title game.

Gambling Update: Ivey claims questionable Atlantic City score was skill

07.03.2014     06:58 AM     Printer Friendly
UPDATE

Back in April we posted the details on Phil Ivey's shady/savvy – depending on who you ask – $9.6 million baccarat score from Atlantic City’s Borgata casino. The casino said Ivey took advantage of faulty playing cards. Ivey’s lawyers, who are trying to have the case dismissed, argue that what he did wasn’t technically cheating, the six-month statute of limitations on an illegal game has passed, and the state’s casino regulators should be pursuing the case not an individual casino.

MLB Handicapping: Baltimore Orioles go with six-man rotation

06.20.2014     08:25 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Baltimore (Jimenez) at NY Yankees (Kuroda) -140 O/U 8.5

Not easy to find positives when dealing with Baltimore’s Ubaldo Jimenez. However, with the Orioles now going with a six-man rotation, Jimenez has performed well when pitching off of extra rest.

“I hope [it helps],” Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. “Some people say, ‘Well then is it too far away from pitching?’ In his case, he’s responded well to it, so we hope it happens again. Any time they get a little extra time with Dave, I’m for it. He’s one of the best. It’s a hard delivery to coach through, but his track record’s been pretty true through the second half of the season. We’re going to try to trust that.”

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
PokerStars was just purchased and the new owners are and positioning themselves for partnerships with New Jersey casinos. This could provide a shot in the arm to the state's underwhelming results since legalizing online poker.

"I think in the long run it will be a good story for New Jersey," he said. "I'm optimistic that they know what the rules are, and I fully expect them to be very aggressive because they want to be here."

World Cup Gambling: First round matchups feature plethora of goals

06.17.2014     08:35 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Favorites and the OVER have been the theme of the World Cup thus far. That's not to say there haven't been upsets with the Netherlands crushing defending champ Spain, Costa Rica knocking off Uruguay, and the USA of course taking down Ghana as small underdogs. Scoring has been way up (3.14 gpg) with only two games featuring less than three goals.

“The World Cup is more popular than ever with bettors,” said Jimmy Vaccaro, a legend in our business. “The perfect example was a parlay that was written Sunday, where the guy said ‘Jimmy, give me a $200 three-team parlay. I’ll take the Spurs, and Jimmy, let’s go with the Braves, and give me Bosnia too.’

“It was just a unique sign of how things have transformed over the years with betting on the World Cup being bigger than ever.”

MLB Handicapper Free Play: San Diego Padres at New York Mets

Submitted by ER Sports

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
San Diego (Kennedy) -120 at NY Mets (Matsuzaka) O/U 7
Recommendation: San Diego

The Padres and pitching coach Darren Balsley have done great work with this afternoon’s expected started Ian Kennedy. Kennedy struggled with the Arizona Diamondbacks last season before he was traded at the July 31st deadline to the Padres. The struggles continued for the right-hander after he was traded as he posted an overall 4.91 ERA in 2013. However, Kennedy still possessed good stuff and wasn’t too far removed from the 21-4 record and 2.88 ERA of 2011. Prior to this season Kennedy and Balsley were able to make key adjustments and we’ve seen an uptick in velocity and more of a reliance on the curveball. Kennedy’s strikeouts are up, walks are down, and he’s clearly outpitched (3.02 xFIP) his current 3.63 ERA and 5-7 W-L record. Meanwhile, the 33-year-old Daisuke Matsuzaka will be making his fourth start of the season for the Mets. His 2.95 ERA is sparkling, Read more
