College Football Betting: Texas Tech's Kingsbury agrees with pointspread vs. Baylor

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Texas Tech vs. Baylor -27 O/U 84.5

Here were have Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury commenting on this week's 27-point spread against Baylor. Note that the game takes place in Arlington.

“That’s probably about right with what they’re doing. They’ve beaten everybody by 70 so far. So that’s probably about right. Yeah, we’ll see. Like I said earlier, both fan bases get up with this game. They’re very familiar with each other, and I expect our kids to play hard.”

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wise Guy Report: AFC News and Notes from Week 10

11.11.2013     11:22 AM     Teddy Covers     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Teddy Covers

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Welcome to Teddy’s unique look at the NFL. Teddy watches games all day on Sunday, typing furiously on his laptop while giving you the key info that the box scores and game recaps don’t necessarily have. This week: AFC thoughts and opinions from Week 10.

Cincinnati Bengals - Five key starters are missing from this defense. Geno Atkins, Robert Geathers, Taylor Mays and Leon Hall are all on injured reserve. Rey Maualuga was out today, as was fellow LB Michael Boley. That's one heck of a lot of talent to be missing! So for this stop unit to shut down the Ravens for the better part of the last three quarters speaks volumes about their depth and defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer’s schemes.

All the questions about Andy Dalton's ability to guide this team to postseason success continue to linger. Dalton won the AFC Offensive Player of the Month award in October, but here in November he could win the 'biggest downgrade of any QB this month' award. Dalton was awful last Thursday against the Dolphins and he was even worse today.

Dalton held the ball too long, taking sacks instead of making quick decisions. His accuracy Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Virginia Tech Hokies at Miami (FL) Hurricanes

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Virginia Tech at Miami (FL)
Saturday, 4 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Miami -6 O/U 43.5
CRIS Current: Miami -6.5 (-115) O/U 44
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Miami -7
Rob Veno's Recommendation: Virginia Tech

Huge ACC Championship Game implications here as these teams meet with the Coastal Division still up for grabs. At 3-1 inside the conference, Miami holds a one game edge in the loss column over 3-2 Virginia Tech and 5-2 Georgia Tech. Having already defeated the Yellow Jackets this season, all that stands in the way of a Miami rematch with Florida State in the ACC Championship game is a win here over Virginia Tech plus a victory either at Duke or home versus Virginia. Obviously this is their main hurdle. For Virginia Tech, a victory here propels them into undisputed first place in the Coastal as they would own tie-breaker victories over Georgia Tech and Miami. On deck for the Hokies are a home Read more

NFL Gambling Preview: Dallas Cowboys at New Orleans Saints

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Dallas at New Orleans
Sunday, 5:30 pm PT - NBC
CRIS Opener:
New Orleans -6.5 O/U 52
CRIS Current: New Orleans -6.5 O/U 53.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: New Orleans -7.5
Teddy Covers' Recommendation: Over

Dallas can’t stop the pass, plain and simple.  Monte Kiffin’s Cover-2 defense has been an improvement over Rob Ryan’s stop unit from last year in one regard only – they force more turnovers.  Last year, the Cowboys finished the season creating only 16 takeaways in 16 games.  This year, the Cowboys have 21 takeaways through their first nine games and rank #2 in the NFL with a +10 turnover margin.

Drew Brees threw a pair of interceptions in an ugly loss at the Jets last Sunday.  This offense is clearly built for domes, not for outdoor venues.  They were held to just two field goals and one third down conversion after halftime, reminiscent of their road showing at Read more

College Football Handicapping: Week 11 Injury Report

11.07.2013     07:59 AM     Brian Edwards     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Brian Edwards

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Stanford won’t have DE Ben Gardner for the rest of the season, but at least it is getting another 2012 All-Pac-12 selection back in the lineup. DE Henry Anderson is ‘probable’ vs. Oregon after missing several games with a leg injury.

Troy uses a two-QB system with Deon Anthony used in running situations. Anthony has rushed for 392 yards and three TDs while averaging 5.8 yards per carry. Anthony, who also has three TD passes without an interception, is ‘doubtful’ Thursday at UL-Lafayette after spraining his ankle in a 49-37 loss to ULM last week. Corey Robinson (18-8 touchdown-to-interception ratio) will get all the snaps for the Trojans.

Wisconsin WR Jared Abbrederis has been upgraded to ‘probable’ vs. BYU after sustaining a chest injury on a touchdown catch in Saturday’s 28-9 win at Iowa. The Badgers will also get back two-time All Big Ten linebacker Chris Borland, who has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury.

Iowa QB Jake Rudock left the Wisconsin loss in the second half with a knee injury, but he’s good to go and will start at Purdue. Rudock has a 12-9 TD-INT ratio.

Betting College Football Totals: Identifying Late Season Opportunities

11.07.2013     07:54 AM     Rob Veno     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Rob Veno

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Each year, the final third of the regular season features teams that finish on streaks. Those streaks are predominantly caused by one of three reasons: 1) a team is simply gassed and with no potential for post season play they let go of the rope, 2) they grow more cohesive, show incremental improvement and really hit their stride late in the year, or 3) the return or loss of key personnel due to injury creates great momentum or forces a team into a downward spiral. Here are four college football teams that appear to be headed for late season totals runs.

Virginia – They’ve now played five consecutive overs due mostly to the erosion of their defense which has allowed at least 27 points in every game during the span and an average of 40.8. The offense has contributed to higher scoring games too as QB David Watford and the passing game has become a bit more dependable. Plenty of value has been given to over bettors in Cavs games as the last five have closed between 49 and 56. This week’s game versus North Carolina is currently inside that range again at 51. Not sure that the absence of Tar Heels’ quarterback Read more
