College Football Betting Preview: Toledo Rockets at UMass Minutemen

Toledo at UMass
Saturday, 12 pm PT – ESPN3
CRIS Opener:
Toledo -13 O/U 57
CRIS Current: Toledo -14.5 O/U 62.5
Recommendation: Toledo

The Toledo Rockets and the UMass Minutemen square off in a cross division MAC showdown on Saturday afternoon in Gillette Stadium. The nationally ranked and ATS perfect Rockets put their undefeated record on the line and they do so as over two touchdown road favorites. UMass on the other hand has had a tough go of it this season posting a 1-5 record including an embarrassing loss to Kent State last week.

Umass had one of the top offenses in the MAC last year at over 30 ppg but before Blake Frohnapfel was lost for the final two games with a broken leg, that average was a league-best 36 ppg. The offense had shown some impressive sparks during out-of-conference play, but against the MAC it had finally started to turn into wins. Fast forwarding to this year, the offense has for the most part been disappointing (22.7 ppg) with Frohnapfel losing his accuracy (three games below 53%) behind a shaky offensive line, highlighted by only scoring one touchdown last week Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Texas A&M Aggies at Ole Miss Rebels

Texas A&M at Ole Miss
Saturday, 4 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Ole Miss -4 O/U 66
CRIS Current: Ole Miss -6 O/U 66
Recommendation: Texas A&M

Both of these SEC West teams are looking for big bounce back efforts after disappointing results last week. Texas A&M was dominated by Alabama, 41-23, as it allowed running Derrick Henry to carry the rock for 236 yards on 32 rushing attempts for a staggering 7.4 yards per carry. Ole Miss stumbled outside of the conference last week in a 37-24 loss to Memphis with quarterback Chad Kelly throwing two picks in the loss and the defense getting gouged for nearly 500 total yards of offense by the Tigers’ potent offense.

Texas A&M was able to move the football well enough at times against Alabama, particularly through the air (284 yards) but Kyle Allen threw three interceptions despite only two the previous five games. I think the Aggies offense has a solid chance to bounce back against an Ole Miss defense whose defensive numbers (4.48 yards per play allowed) look on par with last season (4.67 ypp) but a closer look shows this unit has taken Read more

College Football Gambling: Nevada head coach calls out team for lack of effort

10.21.2015     08:47 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
With a chance to move to 4-3, Nevada dialed up its worst effort of the season during last week's 28-21 loss to bottom feeder Wyoming. The Cowboys posted a season-high 6.83 yards per play. Wolf Pack head coach Bill Polian wasn't pleased and called out his team for a lack of effort and leadership following the loss. They'll try to bounce back against a potentially fatigued Hawaii squad that hasn't had a bye week and will be playing its fourth road game in five weeks.  Nevada is currently a -7 home favorite.

“This is the first time that I felt like the fact we only have 12 or 13 seniors really showed up,” said Polian, whose team returns to action Saturday against Hawaii. “There was no leadership. They were not vocal enough. There were not enough people emotionally invested in the game player-wise. It’s the first time all year I felt that way. We had a couple of guys going up and down the sidelines as we mounted the comeback, but it was disappointing.”

“We only have 12 or 13

College Football Gambling: Heavy rain expected for Auburn-Arkansas game

10.21.2015     08:09 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Auburn and Arkansas are preparing for wet conditions in Fayetteville with the mid-week forecast calling for thunderstorms and 100% chance of rain on Friday and Saturday. Wind is not expected to be a factor. Both squads have been really good about holding on to the football thus far with two fumbles apiece this season.

"We had one mist game already," he said. "We'll do some things in practice to try to simulate the situation. We'll simulate a lot of the factors like keeping the footballs dry, keeping your hands dry with the towels and everything that goes with that."

College Football Betting Preview: Florida State Seminoles at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Florida State at Georgia Tech
Saturday, 4 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Florida State -5.5 O/U 56
CRIS Current: Florida State -5.5 O/U 57.5
Recommendation: Florida State

Not a good sign for Georgia Tech as the Yellow Jackets played arguably their most complete game of the season and still found a way to lose last week. Tech racked up 8.76 yards per play and held Pittsburgh to a respectable 5.92 ypp but two turnovers led to a brutal 31-28 late game loss. It marked the fifth straight loss and pointspread failure for the Yellow Jackets as they attempt to turn things around against Florida State on Saturday.

Head coach Paul Johnson cites a lack of confidence as his team's biggest issue. That and being forced to play a number of freshmen. He also tried to use strength of schedule and "being in every game" as a way to soften the heat he's facing. The slate has been challenging but with the exception of last week's game against Pitt, there was nothing fluky about the results as Tech was statistically outplayed against Notre Dame, Duke, North Carolina, and Clemson. Just look at how much Tech was Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Ohio State Buckeyes at Rutgers Scarlet Knights

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Ohio State at Rutgers
Saturday, 5 pm PT - ABC
CRIS Opener:
Ohio State -21 O/U NL
CRIS Current: No Line
Recommendation: Ohio State

Top-ranked Ohio State remains undefeated after last Saturday's 38-10 victory over Penn State. The quarterback issues are still looming for the Buckeyes as J.T. Barrett took over for Cardale Jones and gave the offense the spark it needed late to earn the spread covering victory. It's the first pointspread cover for the Buckeyes since their Week 1 triumph at Virginia Tech.

Rutgers rallied back from a 25-point deficit to beat Indiana 55-52. The QB-WR combo of Chris Laviano and Leonte Carroo has been solid, teaming up for 9 TDs, but the status of Carroo remains up in the air after he left last week's contest with an ankle injury. He's listed as questionable but when asked about his status, Carroo stated, "I'll definitely be playing next week.”

The Scarlet Knights might have some trouble in this game due to some key injuries. Along with the aforementioned Carroo, defensive back Blessuan Austin and safeties Davon Jacobs and Kiy Hester all are listed Read more
