MLB Handicapper Free Play: Chicago White Sox at Seattle Mariners

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Chicago WS (Danks) at Seattle (Saunders) -110 O/U 7.5
Recommendation: Under

Offensive struggles are real concerns for each of these teams right now. Chicago has scored three runs or less in 10 of its last 13 games while Seattle has totaled 17 runs over its last six contests. For the White Sox, lack of offense has been a season long issue but things were even more magnified yesterday when they had to go without their hottest hitter over the past week and a half, Paul Konerko, due to a stiff neck. He’s listed as day-to-day but figures to try and give it a go tonight. Gordon Beckham also could return to the lineup after a stint on the DL (hand injury) and a recent rehab assignment but the Sox are being very cautious with him. No matter who plays tonight, they figure to have trouble with Mariners lefty Joe Saunders who has pitched to incredible home/road splits thus far. In Safeco, Saunders owns a 3-1 record, 2.41 ERA and 1.04 WHIP while on the road he’s 0-4/9.00/2.06. His last Read more

MLB Handicapper Free Pick: Oakland A's at San Francisco Giants

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Oakland (Griffin) -110 at San Francisco (Zito) O/U 7.5
Recommendation: Over

Quick turn around here after these teams engaged in a 3 hour 43 minute, bullpen draining contest last night. After an extended offensive drought through most of this month, Oakland has begun to see the ball well again during their current six game winning streak. Since last Friday, the A’s have posted a .286 team batting average, .433 on base percentage and .905 OPS. Those numbers have a strong chance to continue today since Oakland has handled lefties very well this year and Giants starter Barry Zito. The A’s have a distinct differential in their slash line vs. LH and RH pitching with the left side reading .265/.360/.786 as opposed to .237/.319/.711 against righties. With Zito in the midst of a slump right now (17.2 IP/7.27 ERA/2.02 WHIP in his L3 starts) look for Oakland to remain hot with the bats. Looking for San Francisco to produce on the scoreboard here as well against A’s starter Read more

MLB Betting Notes: Different year, similar results for Minnesota's starting pitching

05.23.2013     02:03 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
We talked about Minnesota's crappy pitching on today's Sportsmemo Podcast (listen here). Hardball Talk to a closer look at the numbers compared to last year. The team’s 4.2 strikeouts per 9 innings rate is one that stands out as horrendous/comical. Tomorrow they send Samuel Deduno to the hill who unlike Pelfrey, Worley, and friends, has legitimate MLB stuff. The only problem is Deduno doesn't know where it's going and last season admitted as such. In 84.2 big league innings, he's walked 57 batters.

Also funny is in mid-May of last year we posted a blog on how bad Minny's starting pitching had Read more

MLB Gambling Free Pick: Cincinnati Reds at Miami Marlins

05.16.2013     10:03 AM     Rob Veno     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Rob Veno

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Cincinnati (Latos) -155 at Miami (Fernandez) O/U 7
Recommendation: Under

Sometimes you have to roll with plays that look simplistic and this game shapes up as one of those. Starting pitching figures to dominate here as the Mat Latos takes on young gem Jose Fernandez. Despite the fact that Latos’ history against Miami shows an 0-3 record, he had tremendous success earlier this season when he threw seven strong innings and allowed only one earned run and posting a 10:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. That game was in the hitter friendly Great American Ballpark so look for Latos to be just as effective tonight inside spacious Marlins Park. Miami’s offense continued its abysmal season last night getting shutout by the Reds 4-0 and they now own an MLB-worst 110 runs scored, .224 batting average, .322 slugging percentage, .224 OBP, and .608 OPS. While Fernandez certainly faces the superior lineup, he’s been brilliant over his last couple starts. He’s pitched a combined 13 Read more
