NFL Gambling Preview: Atlanta Falcons at Carolina Panthers

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Atlanta at Carolina
Sunday, 10 am PT - FOX
CRIS Opener:
Carolina -7.5 O/U 41.5
CRIS Current: Carolina -7 (-120) O/U 44.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Carolina -4.5
Ian Cameron's Recommendation: Carolina

Things have come off the rails for the Atlanta Falcons. They are 2-5 and have lost four of their last five games – the lone win against a woeful Tampa Bay Bucs squad 31-23 in a game they were outgained by 46 yards. Atlanta has cluster injuries at wide receiver with Julio Jones on IR and lost for the season and Roddy White questionable for this week with a hamstring injury. The Falcons have not been able to run the football because of those injuries and thus haven’t been able to score on a consistent basis. Atlanta had just 27 rushing yards on 14 carries last week in their 27-13 loss to Arizona. Matt Ryan tossed 4 INTs and is clearly affected by the lack of his top playmakers in the passing game. College Football Betting Preview: North Carolina Tar Heels at NC State Wolfpack

Saturday, 9:30 am PT - ESPN Game Plan
CRIS Opener:
North Carolina -3 O/U 55
CRIS Current: North Carolina -4 O/U 57.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: North Carolina -6.5
Andrew Lange's Recommendation: NC State

There aren't very many statistics that I can use to make a case for supporting NC State. The Wolfpack are 0-4 in ACC play and own non-conference wins over Louisiana Tech, Richmond (by 2), and Central Michigan. North Carolina meanwhile has battled the likes of South Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Miami and while coming up on the short of end of it in those three games, the Tar Heels have shown to be at least capable. But that doesn't mean they are deserving of laying over a field goal on the road in a rivalry game as NC State should be primed for its best showing of the season.

College Football Betting: Bowling Green's incredible totals run

10.30.2013     07:51 AM     Rob Veno     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Rob Veno

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
There has been nothing in the world of college football totals like the streak Bowling Green has been on. Since the beginning of last season, BGSU has played 20 games including their bowl appearance and 17 of those games have stayed under the total. That’s right, 17-3 85% to the under including a 7-1 87.5% run this year, 17-2 89.5% regular season streak and 10-2 83.3% conference mark. Their 2012 totals record really began to make sense about mid-October when it became crystal clear they were a very strong defensive team that had become very pedestrian offensively. That realization led to a slew of multiple easy winners as betting the Falcons under for the game, plus first half and second half produced massive profits.

Week 1 saw the streak and personality of the team continue as they stayed 9.5 points under the total in their 34-7 rout of Tulsa. However, blindly wagering with this massive trend dwindled quickly after their Week 2 41-22 offensive outburst against Kent which went 20 points over the closing total of 43. Bettors who pushed that game down from the opener of 46 and got beat subsequently shied away from Bowling Green’s next game against high-powered Read more

NFL Gambling Preview: New York Jets at Cincinnati Bengals

New York Jets at Cincinnati
Sunday, 1:05 pm PT - CBS
CRIS Opener:
Cincinnati -7 O/U 40
CRIS Current: Cincinnati -4.5 O/U 41
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Cincinnati -9
Erin Rynning's Recommendation: Cincinnati

The Cincinnati Bengals were impressive last week in their 27-24 win at Detroit.  Off to a 5-2 start, I have to give credit to this team that I’ve doubted at times this season.  This is a well-rounded bunch that ranks 12th in total offense and 9th in total defense. Offensively they’ve found ways to both throw and run the football.  The tight end play continues to be a difference maker, which opens the sidelines for AJ Green.  Andy Dalton is starting to make better decisions with the football, although the Bengals could still be more efficient – 22nd in points scored, but 12th in total yards.  Of course, the offensive line has played sturdy football as well, as left Read more

Football Handicapping: MAC Totals, SMU, and NFL Correlated Parlays

10.25.2013     12:26 PM     Rob Veno     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Rob Veno

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Is there any bet in college football right now that is more of a “no brainer” than playing Mid-American Conference games under the total? There have been 22 MAC league games played heading into Saturday’s slate and the under has gone 17-5 for a winning percentage of 77.2%. The only team in this conference that has recorded more over results than under is Eastern Michigan whose horrendous defense (49.7 points allowed vs. MAC) has led them to a 3-0 O/U mark in league play. Akron, Central Michigan, Massachusetts, Miami (Ohio) and Northern Illinois all have yet to record a conference game over the total.

SMU has certainly had their troubles this season. They’re mostly beaten up by detractors for being a poor team but from a totals perspective right now, you have to love them. The staff of offensive “evil geniuses” that has been assembled in Dallas has given “over” backers the gift of five winning tickets in six tries and they are just beginning to hit stride. After struggling behind QB Garrett Gilbert for the majority of their first four games, the “Air Raid/Run & Shoot” combo scheme has cranked out 86 points and Read more

NFL Gambling Preview: Dallas Cowboys at Detroit Lions

Dallas at Detroit
Sunday, 10 am PT - FOX
CRIS Opener:
Detroit -3 O/U 51
CRIS Current: Detroit -3 O/U 50.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Detroit -1.5
Brian Edwards' Recommendation: Detroit

A pair of NFC contenders will collide Sunday at Ford Field in Detroit, where the Lions will take on Dallas on FOX. Most betting shops have installed Detroit (4-3 straight up, 4-3 against the spread) as a three-point favorite (with a -120 price tag) with a total of 51.

Gamblers can take the Cowboys on the money line for a +145 payout (risk $100 to win $145). For first-half wagers, the Lions are favored by -1.5/-2 with a total of 26.

Dallas (4-3 SU, 6-1 ATS) has won back-to-back games, including its first road win. After smashing Washington 31-16 two weeks ago, the Cowboys won 17-3 at Philadelphia as three-point road underdogs.

The Dallas defense knocked Nick Foles out of the game with a concussion and then Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Vanderbilt Commodores at Texas A&M Aggies

Saturday, 9:20 am PT - ESPN Game Plan
CRIS Opener:
Texas A&M -18.5 O/U 70
CRIS Current: Texas A&M -17 O/U 68.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Texas A&M -14
Brent Crow's Recommendation: Texas A&M

This game features two teams that come in off of surprising results last weekend that also saw both of them suffer injuries to their starting quarterbacks. Vanderbilt pulled an upset at home against Georgia, 31-27, while Texas A&M was on the other end of an upset, losing 45-41 to Auburn in College Station.

Vandy quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels left the Georgia game with a left leg injury and was replaced by Patton Robinette in the third quarter of the win. Robinette went 9-of-15 for 41 yards and ran for a touchdown and has been named the starter this week.

Johnny Manziel also got hurt against Auburn, missing just one series before Read more
