NBA Handicapping: Plenty at stake for final day of regular season

04.17.2013     07:17 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry. breaks down all of the NBA Playoff seeding scenarios for the final day of the regular season.

The Nos. 6, 7 and 8 seeds in the Western Conference remain unsettled. The simplest scenario features the Lakers beating the Houston Rockets, which would give the Golden State Warriors the No. 6 seed, Los Angeles the No. 7 seed and Houston the No. 8 and eliminate the Utah Jazz. Should the Jazz win at the Memphis Grizzlies (who are locked in to the No. 5 seed) and the Rockets beat the Lakers, Los Angeles will miss the playoffs.

The Atlanta Hawks can claim the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference with a win or Chicago Bulls loss. The Bulls would prefer the fifth seed because they went 1-3 vs. the No. 3 seed Indiana Pacers and 3-1 vs. the No. 4 seed Brooklyn Nets. The Hawks split their season series with both.

The Denver Nuggets need a Los Angeles Clippers loss or a home win against the Phoenix Suns to clinch the No. 3 seed in the West. That seed is perhaps the most important left Read more

NBA Gambling: Utah Jazz need win at Memphis, Lakers loss

04.17.2013     06:31 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Utah at Memphis -5 O/U 180

Final day of the NBA regular season and the Utah Jazz are still alive for the eighth seed in the Western Conference. For the Jazz to get in, it's a pretty simple process: win at Memphis and hope the Lakers lose to Houston.

"I guess I need to try to get in touch with Kevin McHale," Al Jefferson said of his former Minnesota coach, now with the Rockets, "and tell him to handle that for me. Give me a late birthday present."

NBA Betting News: Season Over/Under bets canceled for Celtics and Pacers

04.16.2013     07:43 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Due to the unfortunate circumstances of yesterday's Boston Marathon bombing, the Boston Celtics canceled their game against the Indiana Pacers. Both teams had already locked up their respective playoff seeds but for bettors there was still something to play for with Indiana (49-31) right on its regular season over/under wins mark. According to LVH oddsmaker Jeff Sherman, Las Vegas rules indicate that a team must play all 82 regular season games for a season o/u bet to be final. As a result, all wagers on the Celtics and Pacers, both under and over, were canceled.

Jeff Sherman ‏@golfodds 12h
@JPowerline we dislike having this situation arise but going into the season try to come up with the fairest stipulations for both sides

Jeff Sherman ‏@golfodds 13h
@WagerMinds we opened Pacers 51, went as low as 49.5 ... they're sitting at 49 wins so tomorrow's game meant quite a bit to it

Jeff Sherman ‏@golfodds 14h
with the cancellation of tomorrow's Celtics/Pacers game, season wins on those two teams are refunds as team must play 82 games for action

NBA Betting Free Play: Washington Wizards at Brookyn Nets

Submitted by Teddy Covers blog entry.
Washington +5.5 at Brooklyn O/U 190.5
Recommendation: Washington

Don’t expect anything resembling the Nets A-game this evening. Brooklyn’s loss at Toronto yesterday locked them into the #4 seed in the East. Head coach PJ Carlesimo made it very clear following that loss that he’s more interested in resting his veterans than in going full throttle down the stretch. “We don’t need to get anybody hurt. We’re not playing for anything. Going forward now we’ve certainly got to rest some people.”

The Nets have no shortage of guys who need rest. Gerald Wallace has sat their last two games, not expected to suit up tonight either. Deron Williams took a nasty knee yesterday, a likely candidate to sit this evening, although it hasn’t been ‘officially’ announced yet. Joe Johnson has been battling injuries as well, another potential ‘sitting in street clothes’ Read more
