College Football Betting Stock Watch: Beware of inflated prices with Wisconsin

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Sell the Wisconsin Badgers – The Badgers have enjoyed storybook seasons the last two years with back-to-back Rose Bowl berths.  Yes, 2012 set’s up as another banner year but this squad will without question be inflated in the betting markets.  It would be near impossible this season for the Badgers to match their offensive production from the previous two seasons.  Keep in mind 2010 and 2011 were record breaking years, as they averaged an amazing 44.1 and 41.5 points per game.  This year, they’ll need to replace six offensive starters including all-world quarterback Russell Wilson.  With Wilson winning the starting quarterback job for the Seattle Seahawks as a rookie it should be a telltale sign of his value.  In addition, the Badgers also lost respected offensive coordinator Paul Chryst who took the head coaching job at Pittsburgh.  Yes, the Badgers will feature running back Montee Ball and will have Maryland transfer Danny O’Brien as their quarterback, but the scoring could easily be down 10+ points per contest.  Defensively, the Badgers will be sound with a sturdy front seven; however secondary Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Tennessee Volunteers vs. NC State Wolfpack

Tennessee vs. NC State
Brent Crow's Recommendation:
NC State
Friday, 4:30 pm PT @ Atlanta - ESPNU
CRIS Opener:
Tennessee -2.5 O/U 50
CRIS Current: Tennessee -3 (-115) O/U 52.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: NC State PK

Tennessee fans are looking for some progress in year three of the Derek Dooley era and with 18 starters back from a 5-7 team, they should get their wish. Whether the Vols win enough games to keep Dooley off the hot seat remains to be seen, however. Tennessee does have a chance to go to a nice bowl game if they can stay healthy, most notably quarterback Tyler Bray who is primed for a big showing. In just 12 starts spanning two seasons, Bray has thrown 35 TDs and 16 INTs. A full season will have him near 30 TD passes and 3,000 yards and that should result in eight or nine wins for this team. Justin Hunter, who returns from injury, is poised to be the recipient of most of Bray’s Read more

Toledo at Arizona -10.5 O/U 62

Injuries and lack of depth are concerns for Arizona head coach Rich Rodriguez who makes his debut against Toledo on Saturday. The Wildcats have been forced to juggle positions, including bringing offensive players over to the defense. And three linebackers have been ruled out.

“They’re a very dangerous team and they’re going to come with a lot of confidence,” Rodriguez said. “I’ve probably said this enough times: We are not good enough to play poorly and win any games. We have to play well and Read more

College Football Betting Update: SDSU still mulling over no punt philosophy

UPDATE

San Diego State at Washington -14.5 O/U 56.5

San Diego State head coach Rocky Long hasn't made up his mind whether or not he will implement the no-punts-inside-the-50 rule against Washington.

"Additional plays would allow you to score a lot more points," Long told The San Diego Union-Tribune. "It also puts a whole lot of pressure on the defense."

"We are still considering whether we are going to do that or not, but that's the way we've practiced from day one in camp," he said.

"The one thing it can lend itself to, if a team has a third-and-nine, third-and-10 from the 42-yard-line, 43-yard-line, you can really be willing to run the football in Read more

Towson at Kent State -7 - Lot of respect for Towson who unexpectedly took the CAA by storm last year. Kent State has a strong defense and feels it’s a bit better offensively this season but still, don't see a real talent gap here. Towson's balanced and explosive offense with eight of its pieces back plus more experienced defense makes them a threat. Power Ratings made this a pick-em. Recommendation: Took a small piece of Towson +7

Southeast Missouri State at Central Michigan -26 - No real interest here but do think that CMU will rise up and become competitive again in MAC this year behind QB Radcliff and receiving weapons (bumped them +2.5 in my PR this year). SEMO is not OVC trash and they have Ohio U. sophomore transfer Kyle Snyder at QB so his knowledge of Chippewas will help in game prep. They are run heavy and decent at it so if they have success, clock grinding makes +26 look large. Think their defense may get toasted through the air early and often though. Recommendation: None

Northern Colorado at Utah -42 - Northern really optimistic about this season based on more Read more

College Football Betting: Duke without as many as 12 scholarship players vs. FIU

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Florida International at Duke -3 O/U 54

Duke is expected to be without 11-12 scholarship players due to injury for Saturday's opener against FIU.

“I don’t understand it,” Cutcliffe said. “I tell you, I’ve never even been close to this. We have minimally now 12 scholarship players who will be out of the first game. At the end of June, it didn’t look anything like that. July was a difficult month for us, and August has continued on the same path. Our guys are resilient; they’ve been resilient since we’ve been here. This is a resilient staff. If a group can handle it, it will be this team.”

“We can’t take many more hits,” Cutcliffe said. “I’ll be honest with you, it’s made me a little more cautious at practice. I don’t Read more

Michigan vs. Alabama
Teddy Covers' Recommendation:
Alabama
Saturday, 5 pm PT @ Arlington, Texas - ABC
CRIS Opener:
Alabama -11 O/U 46
CRIS Current: Alabama -14 O/U 46.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Alabama -15

Michigan enjoyed one heck of a first season for Brady Hoke, finishing their 11-win season with a thrilling overtime victory over Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl.  But it’s not going to be an easy task for the Wolverines to repeat that level of performance in 2012.  Michigan suffered significant graduation losses on both the offensive and defensive lines; bad news for ultra-hyped senior quarterback Denard Robinson.

Nor can the Wolverines expect to win every close game like they did last year; undefeated in games decided by a touchdown or less.  And make no mistake about it – this is a step up in class game for the Wolverines.  Michigan’s last Read more
