College Football Gambling: Your obligatory Jameis Winston point shaving scandal

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Considering Jameis Winston's off-the-field troubles and Florida State's shorting comings against the spread (2-6), we're actually kind of shocked it took until Week 11 for TMZ to report an almost assuredly bogus Winston/Seminole point shaving scandal. Someone clearly asleep at the wheel.

College Football Betting Preview: Baylor Bears at Oklahoma Sooners

Baylor at Oklahoma
Saturday, 9 am PT - FS-1
CRIS Opener:
Oklahoma -4 O/U 73.5
CRIS Current: Oklahoma -5 O/U 71
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Oklahoma -1
Paul Stone's Recommendation: Under

For the past 365 days, the Oklahoma Sooners have had Saturday's home matchup against the Baylor Bears circled on their football calendar.

Last year on a fall Thursday night in Waco, the Bryce Petty-led Bears steamrolled the Sooners, 41-12, in a game that was non-competitive and played a large role in Baylor ultimately winning the Big XII championship and appearing in a BCS game.

It was only Baylor's second victory over Oklahoma in 23 tries. The Bears have never won in Norman, and Bob Stoops and company are hoping to keep it that way.

Earlier this week, Stoops, however, would not play the revenge card.

"Last year is last year," Stoops said. "It's gone. All we can do is Read more

Kansas State at TCU
Saturday, 4:30 pm PT - FOX
CRIS Opener: TCU
-6 O/U 60.5
CRIS Current: TCU -6 O/U 57.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: TCU -5
Ian Cameron's Recommendation: Kansas State

Kansas State and TCU square off in a pivotal battle of 7-1 teams looking to not only keep pace for the Big XII crown but also stay in the hunt in the hotly contested four-team playoffs.

Kansas State has gotten progressively better this season with current streaks of 5-1 SU and 6-0 ATS. Since losing at home to Auburn, K-State has beaten UTEP, Texas Tech, Texas, and Oklahoma State by a combined margin of 174-55. They also took down Oklahoma, 31-30, as TD+ road underdogs.

Statistically, KSU has the best defense in the Big XII: 18.6 ppg (12th nationally), 321 ypg (16th) and 4.9 ypp allowed. It’s a great matchup against a TCU offense that has been executing like a well-oiled machine for much of the Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Georgia State Panthers at Troy Trojans

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Georgia State at Troy
Saturday, Noon PT
CRIS Opener:
Troy -7 O/U 63.5
CRIS Current: Troy -7 O/U 65
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Troy -7
Drew Martin's Recommendation: Over

The Troy Trojans will play host to the Georgia State Panthers in a battle between Sun Belt Conference bottom dwellers. The Panthers will be seeking their first ever win in conference competition while the Trojans look for their second win of the season. Both teams have had a tough year despite decent offensive production.

The Panthers are coming off of their worst offensive performance of the year with 62 total yards and 22 minutes of possession. But a huge asterisk can be placed next to that effort as the weather at Appalachian State was brutal (wind and snow) leaving little to no chance for a dome team to have success.  Georgia State’s offense is based on finesse and will run at a much faster tempo under Read more

Ohio State at Michigan State
Saturday, 5 pm PT - ABC
CRIS Opener:
Michigan State -2 O/U 63.5
CRIS Current: Michigan State -3.5 O/U 57.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Michigan State -1
Rob Veno's Recommendation: Michigan State

Huge implications attached to this game with the most recent Playoff Committee top 25 poll ranking Michigan State at #8 and Ohio State #14. It essentially makes this an elimination game. Winner here also has the inside track on representing the Big Ten Eastern Division in the conference championship game. Each side enters on a six game straight-up win streak (OSU 5-1 ATS, MSU 4-2 ATS) and playing their best football of the season.

It seems as if Ohio State’s J.T. Barrett has made injured starter Braxton Miller’s name basically disappear from the minds of college football fans and media across the country. It’s true that unlike last season Read more
