Dana White makes Floyd Mayweather seem humble

01.29.2014     06:33 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The most Dana White thing ever.

"I'm like, are you serious? We're going to get killed," White said. "They don't have some kind of suitcase where they put the money in. ‘You just beat us, here you go.' That's really the attitude. They just stack it all up there and go ‘thanks, have a great night.' We've had trash bags, we got to the point we started bringing our own bags."

"It's the rush and excitement of all rushes," White said. "What would you do if you put a $50,000 hand up there and you have to split ’em? There's nights I beat the casinos for $5,000,000."

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wise Guy Report: Bettors gear up for Super Bowl XLVIII

01.27.2014     08:14 AM     Teddy Covers     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Teddy Covers

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
It’s Super Bowl time again; the moral equivalent of Christmas Day for sports bettors. Yet many of the professional full time bettors that I know are rather disappointed with the proposition betting opportunities this year – there’s simply not much low hanging fruit. The biggest and best sportsbooks (market leaders both here in Vegas and offshore) have learned from previous mistakes. Bad numbers do NOT abound in 2014.

Let me start with the game itself. The Super Bowl itself has been an underdog bettor’s paradise in recent years.  The Ravens won the Super Bowl last year as the underdog, beating the favored 49ers. The Giants won the year before as an underdog; knocking off the Patriots. In 2010, the Saints won straight up as a dog over Peyton Manning and the Colts. In 2009, the Cardinals covered the spread in a tight loss to the Steelers. In 2008, the Giants beat the favored 18-0 Patriots outright. The only favorite to win and cover in the last six Super Bowls was the Packers when they beat the Steelers in 2011.

The underdog trend in the Super Bowl goes back even further than that, with four consecutive dog covers from 2002 through 2005 Read more

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Las Vegas has offered to help the upcoming Sochi Olympics keep an eye out for any suspicious betting patterns.

"The Nevada Gaming Control Board announced Wednesday that it was partnering with the International Olympic Committee to help guard against match fixing and other kinds of manipulation," according to the AP.

Las Vegas casinos to start accepting Bitcoins

01.22.2014     07:23 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Starting today, Las Vegas's D Casino and Golden Gate Casino will accept Bitcoins. They won't be usable for gambling, however.

"I think we're going to see all kinds of merchants beginning to accept payments using Bitcoins the same way as in the 60s when people only took cash and checks with them, and then credits became popular," he says. "And then PayPal came along."

Cantor Gaming fortunate following record fine

01.22.2014     07:14 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Excellent article by John L. Smith on the recent record breaking fine handed down to Cantor Gaming.

Amaitis was so politically tone deaf that he apparently believed his bromance with Walters wouldn’t invite law enforcement scrutiny. But, in short order, the Las Vegas office of the IRS criminal division teamed up with casino regulatory investigators to pursue Walters for using intermediaries known as messenger bettors to place his wagers.

Super Bowl XLVIII Betting News: Is Seattle +3 on the horizon?

01.22.2014     07:08 AM     Printer Friendly
Given the initial push of money and current market price it is very likely at some point that +3 will be available for bettors interested in the Seattle Seahawks. There are a number of offscreen and Las Vegas sportsbooks with -2.5 and a few with -120 juice attached. We even found a good old fashion 3-110 at Bovada. Most consensus numbers have as high as 80% of the action on the Denver Broncos.

Super Bowl XLVIII Betting News: Sportsbooks cautious on prop bets due to weather

01.21.2014     07:21 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Sounds as if Las Vegas sportsbooks are going to sit on some of their Super Bowl XLVIII prop bets with the weather being such an unknown at this point.

“Everything, except for the basic stuff, is going to pushed back a day or two so we can get a much more clearer picture of what the weather is going to be like,” Jay Rood, sports book director at the MGM Mirage, said in a telephone interview from Las Vegas.

“We’ll see what the weather is looking like at that time and make our numbers based on that,” Sherman said by phone. “Every day we’ll just check it and if it looks like things are changing, we’ll make the necessary adjustment. We’d rather it be nice conditions and hopefully not have an effect on the game as far as causing more turnovers or if a quarterback is having trouble throwing the ball in windy conditions.”

Las Vegas sportsbooks gear up for Super Bowl XLVIII parties

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Here's a link to all of Las Vegas' Super Bowl XLVIII parties courtesy of The Vegas Parlay. No offense to the Wynn, but if we're forking over 35K for the "Hail Mary Package" there had better be a meet-and-greet with the Queen of England as well as even money juice on all bets.

Gaming Control Board hits Cantor with $5.5 million fine

01.14.2014     11:29 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Earlier this week reports came out the Cantor Gaming (now CG Technology) was being fined $2 million by the Gaming Control Board for its connection to the Mike Colbert/Pinnacle fiasco. Well, it turns out the fine is a little steeper than $2 million. How about $5.5 million – which is apparently a Nevada record. Also, if you want you can read the official "complaint", here's the PDF (a few highlights below).

69. The Indictment also alleges Paul Sexton and Michael Colbert acted in concert to launder money which represented the proceeds of criminal conduct.

70. Paul Sexton placed approximately 4,464 wagers with CANTOR GAMING from July of 201 1 through October 24, 201 2. The total amount of these wagers was approximately $22,000,000.00.

71 . Paul Sexton only placed wagers for Gadoon Kyrollos with CANTOR GAMING.

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wise Guy Report: NBA Moneyburners!

01.13.2014     12:18 PM     Teddy Covers     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Teddy Covers

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Last week, I took an in-depth look at five of the biggest moneymakers in the NBA through the first half of the season.  This week I’m going to focus on the teams at the other end of the spectrum – bottom feeders and disappointments.  I’ll break down the three biggest money-losers of the season thusfar.  And I’ll take a look at a ‘morpher’; a team playing significantly worse than current market projections.

I’ll start with the three teams that can be collectively called ‘the hopeless trio’.  It’s hard to make money betting on the very worst teams in any sport, and the NBA is certainly no exception.  And there’s no question who the very worst team in the NBA is this year, because they have both the worst SU record in the league (7-29) and the worst pointspread mark (12-24 ATS).  That team?  The Milwaukee Bucks!

Bucks head coach Larry Drew has never coached a bottom feeder before.  He walked into a good situation in Atlanta with the Hawks, who made the playoffs all three years that he was coaching the team.  Here in Milwaukee, the playoffs Read more
