College Footbal Betting Preview: Georgia Bulldogs at Missouri Tigers

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Georgia at Missouri
Saturday, 9 am PT - CBS
CRIS Opener:
Georgia -3 O/U 62
CRIS Current: Georgia -2.5 O/U 59.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Georgia -3
Ian Cameron's Recommendation: Missouri

Two teams looking to stay in the mix for the SEC East title clash this weekend Columbia. The big news is obviously the suspension of Georgia’s Todd Gurley. There not be a greater impact running back for any team in the country than Gurley. His ability to run the football has thus far been able to offset some of the uneven performances from quarterback Hutson Mason. Mason has thrown for only 137.4 ypg and despite completing 68% of his passes most of them are of the short to intermediate variety. He’s still developing and hasn’t been able to consistently deliver when asked to stretch the field. I don’t normally overreact to the loss of a running back and freshman Nick Chubb has promise but Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Texas Longhorns vs. Oklahoma Sooners

Texas vs. Oklahoma
Saturday, 9 am PT - ABC (Dallas)
CRIS Opener:
Oklahoma -14.5 O/U 48.5
CRIS Current: OKlahoma -14 O/U 47
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Oklahoma -18
Paul Stone's Recommendation: Under

The second Saturday in October means a number of things at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas. Big Tex will be slow talking fair-goers; fair-goers will be consuming tons of Fletcher's Corn Dogs and any other fried food imaginable; and the college football hatefest known as Texas-Oklahoma will take center stage in the middle of it all at the Cotton Bowl.

While this game often pits a pair of highly-ranked teams, 11th-ranked Oklahoma (4-1) saw its national playoff aspirations take a serious hit last Saturday in Fort Worth as TCU stunned the Sooners, 37-33. Texas (2-3), meanwhile, is unranked and experiencing significant growing pains on and off the field under first-year head coach Charlie Strong. The Read more

College Football Gambling Alert: Georgia suspends Todd Gurley

10.10.2014     07:24 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
News broke late yesterday that Georgia running back Todd Gurley would be suspended for Saturday's game at Missouri. Sportsbooks have obviously taken the game off the board. The Bulldogs were 3-point road favorites prior to the news. Gurley had rushed for 8.2 ypc on 94 attempts. His backups, Nick Chubb and Sony Michel, have ironically combined for the exact same 8.2 ypc albeit on few carries and against weaker competition.

Note that the percentages are based on the number of bets made not total handle.

Sportsmemo Handicapper Rob Veno has been creating his own Power Ratings for nearly two decades. His numbers are very well respected and an excellent tool for discovering value. Rob’s PRs are a baseline and do not include key injuries or situations but they also don't overreact as much as the betting markets do week to week. Below is a chart of CRIS's current lines and Rob's College Football Power Ratings for Week 7.

College Football Betting Preview: Louisville Cardinals at Clemson Tigers

Louisville at Clemson
Saturday, 12:30 pm PT - ESPNU
CRIS Opener:
Clemson -10 O/U 48
CRIS Current: Clemson -9.5 O/U 50.5
Rob Veno’s Power Rating: Clemson -9
Andrew Lange’s Recommendation: Over

Check the national rankings for total defense and you'll see Louisville perched atop at no. 1. The Cardinals have allowed a staggering 231 ypg and 12.7 ppg. This is a very talented and active stop unit but if you look at their results you'll notice a common theme. The Cards have had the luxury of playing four underclassmen/first-year quarterbacks (Miami, Virginia, Florida International, and Wake Forest). The only "veteran" they've faced was Syracuse's Terrel Hunt who has all of a full season under his belt. And Hunt isn't a very good quarterback to begin with and played under and offensive coordinator that was recently demoted mid-season. The theme continues this week with Clemson Read more

College Footbal Gambling: Oklahoma State offense lacking potency

10.08.2014     08:22 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The stats don't look all that different but in watching Oklahoma State it is clear this isn't a high powered, dynamic offense. Quarterback Daxx Garman has played well but is still rather "green." And he's not getting much help from the run game with the Cowboys averaging  3.5 ypc vs. FBS opponents. Iowa State came into last week allowing over 5 ypc but held OSU to 3 ypc on 42 attempts. Head coach Mike Gundy says that the team's "vanilla" approach on offense will likely remain until sizable gains are made. Note that the total for Saturday's game at Kansas was bet down from 53.5 to 50.5.

"There's three things now," Gundy said. "One is Daxx. Two is the offensive line. And three, we can't run the ball very well. So we're basic vanilla for the most part.

"Until we improve in some areas, it's difficult to really get out of our box. We have to do the best we can with the inexperience we have at those positions."

College Football Betting Preview: USC Trojans at Arizona Wildcats

USC at Arizona
Saturday, 7:30 pm PT - ESPN2
CRIS Opener:
USC -2.5 O/U 63
CRIS Current: USC -2.5 O/U 68
Rob Veno's Power Rating: USC -3
OTTO Sports' Recommendation: Under

The biggest thing I took away from the USC's game against Arizona State was that despite all the preseason talk about playing up-tempo the Trojans are actually looking to slow things down, especially in the second half of games when their defense is gassed due to a lack of depth. They've been suiting up a limited amount of players and the lack of depth was certainly exposed against the Sun Devils.

Defensively, with the exception of the somewhat flukey Boston College game (425 rushing yards allowed) and the two big plays from ASU late in the fourth quarter, USC's defense has been pretty good. They've gotten progressively better against the run holding Oregon State and Arizona State to 89 yards the last two weeks. That bodes Read more
