College Football Betting Preview: North Carolina Tar Heels at NC State Wolfpack

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
North Carolina at NC State
Saturday, 9:30 am PT - ESPN Game Plan
CRIS Opener:
North Carolina -3 O/U 55
CRIS Current: North Carolina -4 O/U 57.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: North Carolina -6.5
Andrew Lange's Recommendation: NC State

There aren't very many statistics that I can use to make a case for supporting NC State. The Wolfpack are 0-4 in ACC play and own non-conference wins over Louisiana Tech, Richmond (by 2), and Central Michigan. North Carolina meanwhile has battled the likes of South Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Miami and while coming up on the short of end of it in those three games, the Tar Heels have shown to be at least capable. But that doesn't mean they are deserving of laying over a field goal on the road in a rivalry game as NC State should be primed for its best showing of the season.

NC State was dealt some bad cards when starting quarterback Brandon Mitchell went Read more

College Football Gambling Alert: Florida Atlantic head coach Carl Pelini resigns

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Tulane at Florida Atlantic -4 O/U 46.5

Not much in terms of details/reasons but it was just announced that Florida Atlantic head coach Carl Pelini has resigned. The Owls were much improved this season with road wins over USF and UAB and close losses to MTSU, Rice, and Marshall. Despite an overall record of 2-6 (6-2 ATS), FAU's remaining schedule (vs. Tulane, at Southern Miss, New Mexico State, vs. Florida International) is very favorable.

College Football Handicapping: Week 10 Injury Report

10.30.2013     11:18 AM     Brian Edwards     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Brian Edwards

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
For Thursday’s AAC matchup vs. South Florida, Houston RB Ryan Jackson is ‘questionable’ after possibly sustaining a concussion in last week’s 49-14 win at Rutgers. Jackson has rushed 95 times for a team-high 477 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 5.0 yards per carry.

USC is hoping to get star WR Marquise Lee (knee) back for Friday’s game at Oregon State. Lee missed last week’s win over Utah and is ‘questionable’ against the Beavers. The Trojans will be without starting TE Randall Telfer and the laundry list of defensive injuries continues to grow. DE Morgan Breslin, who had a team-high 13 sacks in 2012, remains ‘out’ with a hip injury. Starting LB Lamar Dawson was recently lost to a season-ending injury along with reserve safety Gerald Bowman. Starting cornerback Anthony Brown (arm) is also ‘out’ at OSU.

Mike Riley’s team has plenty of its own injury concerns. On the last play of Oregon State’s 20-12 home loss to Stanford last week, WR Kevin Cummings was lost for the season with a broken wrist. Cummings had 23 receptions for 254 yards and two TDs during his senior Read more

College Football Betting: Bowling Green's incredible totals run

10.30.2013     07:51 AM     Rob Veno     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Rob Veno

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
There has been nothing in the world of college football totals like the streak Bowling Green has been on. Since the beginning of last season, BGSU has played 20 games including their bowl appearance and 17 of those games have stayed under the total. That’s right, 17-3 85% to the under including a 7-1 87.5% run this year, 17-2 89.5% regular season streak and 10-2 83.3% conference mark. Their 2012 totals record really began to make sense about mid-October when it became crystal clear they were a very strong defensive team that had become very pedestrian offensively. That realization led to a slew of multiple easy winners as betting the Falcons under for the game, plus first half and second half produced massive profits.

Week 1 saw the streak and personality of the team continue as they stayed 9.5 points under the total in their 34-7 rout of Tulsa. However, blindly wagering with this massive trend dwindled quickly after their Week 2 41-22 offensive outburst against Kent which went 20 points over the closing total of 43. Bettors who pushed that game down from the opener of 46 and got beat subsequently shied away from Bowling Green’s next game against high-powered Read more

College Football Betting: Wyoming fires defensive coordinator

10.29.2013     02:08 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
After a 4-2 start, Wyoming dropped back-to-back conference games which prompted head coach Dave Christiansen to fire his defensive coordinator. The Cowboys surrendered 103 points to Colorado State and San Jose State and will move forward with former first-year defensive line coach James Cain as the team plays host to the Mountain West's best offense, Fresno State, in two weeks. Interesting to note that there are four MWC teams (Hawaii, New Mexico, Air Force, and Nevada) that have allowed more yards per game than Wyoming.

College Football Gambling: NC State primed for better offense vs. North Carolina

10.29.2013     01:48 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
North Carolina -3.5 at NC State O/U 57

It was a difficult spot for NC State quarterback Brandon Mitchell – miss five games and return for a road tilt at Florida State. Mitchell finished 17-of-33 for 128 yards and two interceptions but the Wolf Pack are confident the offense will produce better results this week at home against rival North Carolina. We tend to agree considering there is a 139 ypg of total defense difference between the Seminoles and Tar Heels.

"It makes it difficult for us, too," Doeren said. "That was kind of my point to the coaching staff, going into our bye week: now that we have (Mitchell) back, let's get better for six weeks at what we want to be. And hopefully we'll be able to do that."

"It's caused a little bit of problem but that's because we've played with two different Read more

College Football Betting: Miami priced as big underdog at Florida State

10.29.2013     07:23 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Miami (FL) at Florida State -21.5

Miami responds to being over a three touchdown underdog to Florida State. The Hurricanes were 21-point home underdogs in last year's meeting; FSU won 33-20. Earlier this summer, the Golden Nugget GOY lines had the Seminoles as 8-point road chalk.

“When it comes to that, that’s out of our control. There’s nothing we can do about that, us being the underdogs by however many points or us being the underdogs period,” Miami running back Duke Johnson said. “The only thing we can do is go out there and play the game the way the coaches want us to play it and everything else will take care of itself. It doesn’t really matter whether someone respects us or not. We don’t care. Read more

College Football Handicapping: Michigan defense promises better showing vs. Michigan State

10.28.2013     11:04 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Michigan at Michigan State -4.5

Michigan talks about prepping for Michigan State. The Wolverines are confident their defensive showing against Indiana (572 yards allowed) was an aberration.

“I know we’ll have Michigan defense back on that field the way it’s supposed to be when we play that game (at MSU),” Mattison said. “Especially coming off (that) kind of performance, we’ve got a lot to prove.”
