Sportsmemo Handicapper Erin Rynning featured in Cigar Aficionado

05.06.2014     06:57 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Sportsmemo Handicapper Erin Rynning was featured in this month's issue of Cigar Aficionado. Here's a link to the article.

“During ninth grade, my father’s friends would call and ask me who to bet on. I’ve never met anyone with better opinions than me. That’s why I avoid the sports books”—where distracting conversations about lines and odds are inevitable—“and don’t discuss the games with other bettors. When I first moved here, 10 years ago, I thought it would be great to take in information from all the handicapping shows on the radio. I did, and 2003 was the only losing year I’ve ever had. Now I just stick with my own opinions and things work out fine.”

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wiseguy Report: A look ahead to the NBA Conference Semifinals

05.05.2014     08:03 AM     Teddy Covers     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Teddy Covers blog entry.
The first round of the NBA Playoffs is in the books; a near perfect storm for underdog bettors.  Dogs emerged victorious in three series: Portland over Houston, Washington over Chicago and Brooklyn over Toronto.  The underdog – Dallas in every game – went 6-1 ATS in the Spurs – Mavs series.  Other series losers like Atlanta, Memphis and Golden State proved to be feistier than expected.  Put it all together and we saw dogs go 32-15-3 ATS for the full 50 games played in the first round.

Should we expect Round 2 to follow the same path?  All four series certainly look competitive on paper, although top seeds Miami and San Antonio are both significant favorites to knock off Brooklyn and Portland respectively.  The series prices for Washington – Indiana and LA Clippers – Oklahoma City are certainly indicative of tight battles to come.  In this week’s Vegas Wiseguy Report I’ll examine all four of these second round series, looking for potential matchup edges that could offer ATS value as the series progress.

Indiana was lucky to survive their first round test against Atlanta.  The Hawks Read more

NBA Betting Trends: Game 7 home teams are 21-11 ATS since 2000

05.03.2014     06:16 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
How about a little home team/under parlay for today and tomorrow's NBA Playoff Game 7's? That has been the prevailing trend dating back to 2000. Home teams are 24-8 straight up and 21-11 against the spread in Game 7. Of those 32 games, 21 went under the total (66%). Amazing that from 2010 to 2013 there were only 10 Game 7's whereas there are four over the next two days.

Warranted or not, Memphis' Zach Randolph will be suspended for today's Game 7 vs. Oklahoma City. The Thunder opened -8 but were bet down to -7.5 Friday afternoon. But once news broke that Randolph would be out, bettors flocked to the OKC side driving the line as high as -9.5 before setting in at its current number of -9. The total got bet down slightly from 185.5 to 184.5.
