Cleveland at Chicago -8.5 O/U 187.5

Cleveland's Kyrie Irving (knee) has been ruled out for tonight's game at Chicago. The Bulls opened as a 7.5-point favorite and were bet up to -8.5. The total was bet down from 189 to 187.5. Irving missed 11 games earlier this season with a finger injury. The Cavs went 2-9 SU and 5-6 ATS in his absence (93.1 ppg).

NBA Betting Recap: Tired Lakers Outscored 33-3 on Fast Breaks

This is why back-to-backs in Denver are worth more than one point in the line! The Los Angeles Lakers were truly behind the eight-ball Monday night, trying to hang with rested Denver at altitude one day after winning a nailbiter in Dallas.

Let’s run the numbers then talk some more about the Lakers…

Denver 119, LA Lakers 108

2-Point Percentage: Lakers 61%, Denver 63%

3-Point Shooting: Lakers 8/19, Denver 5/18

Free Throws: Lakers 14/31, Denver 16/27

1’s and 2’s: Lakers 84, Denver 104

Rebounds: Lakers 36, Denver 44

Turnovers: Lakers 15, Denver 8

The Lakers did shoot well inside the arc because Denver was inviting a fast pace. They didn’t mind trading baskets if it meant the Lakers were going to run out of gas. You see “out of gas” flashing all over that boxscore:

*Just 14 of 31 on free throws for the Lakers…which was 9 of 11 from Kobe Bryant Read more

Updated NBA Power Ratings Based on Market Prices - 2/25

I’ve made a few tweaks from the last time based on pointspreads of the past few days. Remember that home court advantage is typically worth 3 points in the NBA. I’ve made notations for teams who are being treated differently than that at the moment (as best I can tell). The market usually penalizes a team in a back-to-back spot 1 point. Missing starters can be worth anywhere from 1-3 points depending on the guy.

NBA Handicapping: Gut check time for Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers earned a critical road win in Dallas Sunday afternoon. It moved them within one game of the .500 mark at 28-29, and only 2.5 games out of the #8 seed in the Western Conference playoff brackets behind Houston.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that a road game awaits Monday in a back-to-back in Denver…one of the toughest challenges any NBA team can face because of the quality of the Nuggets and the mile-high altitude.

There’s a chance the Lakers could gut out a win there. But, let’s assume for now that it’s a loss. And, let’s assume also that a road game a week from Tuesday at Oklahoma City is going to be a loss…along with a neutral site game later this year against the LA Clippers given the advantages the Clippers are currently showing in various quality assessments.

There are 25 games left in the season as I write this…with three “behind the eight-ball” losses in Denver, OKC, Read more

NBA Betting Update: Golden State moves forward without Bogut

02.25.2013     07:25 AM     Printer Friendly
UPDATE

The Andrew Bogut saga continues as back spasms have forced him out for indefinite amount of time...again (Golden State won Friday and Sunday without him). We mentioned the other day that despite the small sample, Golden State was statistically worse with Bogut on the floor. That may have more to do with the lack of continuity as Bogut has been in and out of the lineup since his late January return. While the Warriors are unlikely to be stronger defensively with Bogut on the shelf (in the long run), perhaps the team can regains its focus knowing it won't have to accommodate the oft-injured big man. Golden State begins a four-game East Coast trip on Tuesday against Indiana.

Take a piece of graph paper, and turn it sideways so you’re looking at it like it’s the same shape as the screen on your laptop (short and wide like a cutting board as opposed to tall and skinny like notebook paper).

Down the left side, right the names of the 30 NBA teams. I do it by divisions because it’s easier for me to think of the teams in clusters like that. You may prefer alphabetically because it’s easier to look for a certain team. Whatever. There should be at least 30 lines if you have a typical piece of graph paper. If you don’t…find one that has at least 30 lines so that each team will have a row going across.

Now, across the top of the paper, write the days of the month. You’re building a calendar. There’s room in each little box to write a number. You should know what month it is…so you don’t have to write F22, F23, F24 if it’s February. Just the numbers should do unless you’re a Read more

NBA Gambling: New York Knicks Regressing and Passive

02.23.2013     07:55 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Submitted by Stat Intelligence

Earlier this season, we invented the KRIB Index because the New York Knicks were playing like they had re-invented basketball (Knicks Re-Invent Basketball). They had a higher number of made treys than giveaways more than 30 games into the regular season…something nobody else in the league could do even one game deep into the season. Maybe you had to be a stathead to love it. But, Knicks fans certainly loved the pop and sizzle the team was showing on offense.

Recently, that pop and sizzle are gone. The Knicks are regressing in those key offensive stats, and have grown passive on defense after an enthusiastic start.

Recent games where the Knicks have played like KRAP:

New York (-1.5) lost tonight to Toronto 100-98

New York (+4) lost to Indiana 125-91

New York (-8) lost to Toronto 92-88
