NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: San Jose Sharks at St. Louis Blues

San Jose +105 at St. Louis O/U 5
Recommendation: San Jose

The San Jose Sharks continue their post-All-Star Break, four-game road trip with a matchup against the St. Louis Blues tonight. The Sharks are in second place in the Pacific Division with 56 points and have won eight of their last 11 games. St. Louis is close to getting their full roster back from injury with only goaltender Jake Allen (knee) and Jaden Schwartz (ankle) out indefinitely. Schwartz has been out since mid-October but could be ready to join the club in a couple of weeks after showing positive signs during recent practices. The Blues have done well in the Central despite fighting the injury bug all season. They’ve won six of their last nine and trail second place Dallas by only three points with two games in hand. The Sharks have been a much better road team this season than at home, with a 16-7-2 record overall including three of their last four. Balanced scoring has been a strong spot for the Sharks with 15 different players scoring at least one goal over their last 10 games. Goaltender Martin Jones has won six of his last eight starts with a 2.37 goals against and a .916 Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Columbus Blue Jackets at Edmonton Oilers

Columbus at Edmonton -130 O/U 5.5
Recommendation: Edmonton

The Edmonton Oilers are rewarded with a nice “return from the All-Star Break” gift tonight with the return of their #1 overall draft pick from last year in Connor McDavid. McDavid returns for the first time since November 3rd after suffering a broken clavicle. McDavid had 12 points in 13 games before the injury and I think he’ll provide an emotional boost and also help offset the recent injury to top center Ryan Hugent-Hopkins. Columbus pulled off a two-game home-and-home sweep against the reeling Montreal Canadiens before the break but it’s still a Blue Jackets team that is currently tied with Toronto as the worst team in the Eastern Conference. It’s a beatable foe for Edmonton and even though the Jackets put two wins together, often times we do not see positive momentum prior to the break carry over. Columbus is forced to ride Joonas Korpisalo in net as both Sergei Bobrovsky and Curtis McElhinney remain out long-term due to injury. Edmonton has enough firepower to take advantage this shortcoming. It’s worth noting the Oilers’ goaltending has been Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Toronto Maple Leafs at Florida Panthers

Toronto at Florida O/U 5
Recommendation: Florida -1.5 +170

Easily the biggest surprise story of the first half has to be the emergence of the Florida Panthers. Leading the Atlantic Division with 61 points, they host the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight in their last game before the All-Star break. The Panthers are coming off of a pair of big home wins over the weekend. They took down defending Stanley Cup Champions, Chicago, 4-0 thanks to a 27-save shutout by Roberto Luongo and then used a four-goal second period to beat in-state rivals Tampa Bay 24 hours later. Both games drew near sell-out attendance numbers and with a 14-3-1 record in their last 18 games, the buzz in South Florida should continue to rise during the second half of the season. Toronto comes into this contest on a 1-5-2 skid and have dropped three of their last four road games. With less than a month before the trade deadline, Maple Leafs management has already started shopping names of players and  contracts they are willing to part ways with. It's tough to keep a steady focus when a team is losing, but even tougher when you know you're going to be moved to another team. The Leafs Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Play: Calgary Flames at Columbus Blue Jackets

Calgary at Columbus -120 O/U 5.5
Recommendation: Over

Columbus saw its last game against Washington fly over the total with ease in what ended up being a 6-3 final score in the return of the Jackets' top netminder Sergei Bobrovsky. He was obviously very rusty in his first start since returning from a groin injury surrendering five goals (the 6th Washington goal was an empty net tally) on 28 shots. It’s worth noting that Bobrovsky struggled very early in the season before starting to find his form so it could take time for him to be at his best and Calgary’s offense is still fully capable of exploiting struggling defensive squads and questionable goaltending like what we often see with Columbus. On the flip side, Columbus while not being a potent offensive team by any stretch, may be able to score some goals themselves as they put in three goals and fired 35 shots on net against a very strong defensive Washington squad. Calgary doesn’t resemble Washington in that department with the Flames allowing exactly three goals per game ranking them 29th in the NHL. Karri Ramo will be back in between the pipes after a three-game absence due to Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Play: Calgary Flames at New Jersey Devils

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Calgary +100 at New Jersey O/U 5
Recommendation: Calgary

The New Jersey Devils return home after a four-game road trip to host the Calgary Flames at the Prudential Center. Both clubs enter this contest losing three of their last five games but the Devils are struggling to find consistent scoring while Calgary's defensive woes have spoiled their recent outburst of offensive production. The Flames lost to division rival San Jose last week 5-4 in a contest where they outshot the Sharks 35-18. The off night by goaltender Karri Ramo, who played all 60 minutes and made 13 saves, forced head Bob Hartley to turn to veteran netminder Jonas Hiller for the next two games. Hiller, who hadn't started for the Flames since December 12th, split the pair of games. He first posted a 15-save shutout in a 6-0 blowout victory over the red hot Florida Panthers and then made 35 stops in a tough 2-1 shootout loss to Edmonton. The 33-year-old Swiss goalie will start once again against the Devils where he holds a 2-2-2 lifetime record. New Jersey will counter in net with Cory Schneider, who is 4-5 in his career versus Calgary with most of his starts coming as a member of the Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Play: Chicago Blackhawks at Montrel Canadiens

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Chicago -120 at Montreal O/U 5
Recommendation: Chicago

The Washington Capitals may be playing the best hockey of any team in the NHL right now but the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks are not far behind. Chicago will be looking to make it nine wins in a row tonight as they travel to Montreal to take on the struggling Canadiens in what is a classic tale of hot vs. cold. Chicago has outscored the opposition 32-17 during its current 8-game winning streak and with a win tonight, head coach Joel Quenneville will move into 2nd place on the NHL all-time winningest coaches list. Chicago’s offense has always been potent but it has been especially firing on all cylinders as of late with Patrick Kane (12 points in last 10 games), Artemi Panarin (8 points in last 10 games) and captain Jonathan Toews (11 points in last 10 games) all on very strong offensive streaks right now. Corey Crawford has been razor sharp in net and was especially brilliant in their 3-2 win against Nashville on Tuesday night turning aside 41 of 43shots. His track record against Montreal has been excellent notching a 3-0-2 career record with a 1.38 goals against Read more

Drew Martin checks in with his week 1 college football card off of a solid 2015 campaign. He kicks off with a home dog that is undervalued in the betting markets. This is a great opportunity to jump on board in early September college football- guaranteed to cash or Drew's next selection is on the house.

Drew Martin has a 15*(1.5 Unit) play kicking off Saturday between two teams that have gone through a lot of change the last couple years. The odds makers have this line too short. Jump on board for only $35; Guaranteed to cash or you will receive Drew's next CFB release at absolutely no extra charge.
