NHL Handicapping: Eastern Conference Regular Season Over/Under Points

09.30.2013     11:55 AM     ICC     Printer Friendly

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The puck is about to drop on the 2013-14 NHL season and in the Eastern Conference, there are plenty of teams that believe they can win the Stanley Cup. I’ve sorted through the crowded mess and picked out four rock solid Regular Season Over/Under points wagers for the upcoming season:

Carolina Hurricanes Over 84.5
This is the ultimate “buy low” scenario for me in the Eastern Conference. Carolina is getting very little attention following a disappointing 13th place finish in the East last season but the Hurricanes are poised to have a better than expected campaign. Most media observers think the Hurricanes will be rebuilding but GM Jim Rutherford has stated he expects his team to compete for a playoff spot. Carolina was 11-8-1 to start last season before starting goalie Cam Ward suffered a season ending MCL sprain. That is the foundation for my support of the Canes. Ward is 100% healthy and has a major chip on his shoulder to have a monster year in net after not being invited to the Canadian Olympic Hockey Team tryout camp. I also think Eric Staal and Jeff Skinner, who both underperformed last season, will be much improved. The Read more

Stanley Cup Finals: Chicago Blackhawks a -140 series betting favorite over Boston Bruins

06.10.2013     08:13 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The Stanley Cups Finals are set to get underway on Wednesday with the Chicago Blackhawks squaring off against the Boston Bruins. Chicago opened as a -150 series favorite but early money has come in on Boston with the line now -140/+120. Similar price range for Wednesday's Game 1 with the Blackhawks -150ish on the opener and -150/-145 as of Monday morning. The two teams have no played since October of 2011. Chicago won the Stanley Cups back in 2010 while the Bruins took home the Cup the following season. The series will be played with a 2-2-1-1-1 format. According to Bookmaker, nearly 60% of wagers have been placed on Boston for the series; 57% have been on the Bruins for Game 1.

NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Betting Free Play: Pittsburgh Penguins at Boston Bruins

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Pittsburgh +100 at Boston O/U 5.5
Recommendation: Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh faces a near impossible hole trailing Boston 3-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals. However, I’m willing to make a smaller wager and recommendation on the Penguins tonight if for no other reason than pride. The Penguins have a roster filled with intense competitors including Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Jarome Iginla and Brenden Morrow and I highly doubt any of them want their amazing season to end in a sweep considering the Penguins were the best team in the Eastern Conference throughout the regular season. There is no doubt it was a crushing, gut-wrenching double overtime loss for Pittsburgh in Game 3. The Penguins outshot the Bruins 54-40 but couldn’t find a way to put enough pucks behind Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask who was phenomenal in the win. Pittsburgh could be completely demoralized but I think there is enough veteran players and leadership to keep them in a positive frame of mind for Game 4.

Pittsburgh’s power play simply MUST get going after being held scoreless in the first three games. The reason Pittsburgh might finally break out of their Read more

Stanley Cup Playoffs Gambling Free Pick: Los Angeles Kings at San Jose Sharks

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Los Angeles at San Jose -135 O/U 4.5
Recommendation: San Jose

San Jose has received new life in the Western Conference Semifinals after their enormous Game 3 OT win at home on Saturday night. I expect that momentum to carry over to tonight's Game 4 as the Sharks look to even up this series against the Kings. I'm not quite sold on LA being the better team in this series just yet. LA leads the series 2-1 but have been outshot in two of the first three games by a significant margin and are being outshot 106-78 overall in the series by the San Jose Sharks. San Jose's biggest issues in the first two games were finding ways to score against Jonathan Quick who has been the difference maker to this point but San Jose got two goals past him in Game 3. He was venting a ton of anger and frustration at the referees following a questionable call in OT which led to San Jose's game winning goal and I have a feeling San Jose will have more success against Quick moving forward in this series after we saw him visibly rattled. San Jose's power play came to life going 2-for-5 with the man advantage in Game 3 after not scoring in seven opportunities in the first two Read more
