NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Montreal Canadiens at Tampa Bay Lightning

Montreal at Tampa Bay -240 O/U 5
Recommendation: Over

My clients and I cashed an over winner with Montreal on Tuesday night in its 4-3 win against Detroit. That's the route I will take once again tonight as the Habs travel to face the Tampa Bay Lightning. Montreal’s defense has been gutted by injuries (P.K. Subban, Jeff Petry, Tom Gilbert and Mark Barberio) leaving them paper thin and inexperienced at the back end. They also don’t have quite the same level of goaltending with Mike Condon unable to bail them out of defensive miscues in front of their own net the way Carey Price did when he was healthy. Montreal has allowed 3+ goals in six straight games which has resulted in four overs. Tampa Bay’s offense is likely to feast on this very suspect Montreal defense with the Lightning scoring 18 goals in their last four contests. Montreal should be able to chip in offensively though as Tampa Bay allowed 34 shots on goal against Toronto the other night despite a 3-0 shutout win. The got a tremendous performance in net from Ben Bishop to make that happen but it was still not a very clean game on the defensive end. The Canadiens have been Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Boston Bruins at New Jersey Devils

Boston -150 at New Jersey O/U 5
Recommendation: Under

The Boston Bruins are looking to solidify a playoff spot with only two weeks left in the regular season. They snapped a season-worst five-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over Toronto on Saturday night. Goaltender Tuukka Rask was solid in net with 25 saves and the Bruins’ power play unit picked up two goals -- their first multi-goal game with the man-advantage since February 20th. New Jersey heads into this contest still mathematically alive in the playoff race but a loss here would officially dash those hopes. The Devils are essentially just playing out the string and giving some of their younger players some ice time, most notably goalie Scott Wedgewood, who has started the last four contests. Starter Cory Schneider remains out with an undisclosed injury and will most likely be shut down for the year with just six games remaining. The 23-year-old Wedgewood has looked good with a 2-1-1 record and has allowed 1 goal or fewer in his first three starts. His strong finish to the season could solidify him as the backup for next season, making current backup Keith Kincaid expendable. This Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Dallas Stars at Arizona Coyotes

Dallas -150 at Arizona O/U 5.5
Recommendation: Over

Even without the services of Tyler Seguin who remains out with an Achilles tendon injury, the potent and high powered Dallas Stars offense hasn’t really suffered in recent games. Dallas has registered 13 goals in its last three games -- two of those were without Seguin on the ice. They should feast on an Arizona Coyotes squad that has not stepped up well defensively against better teams. Dallas has scored at least three goals in each of the previous meetings against Arizona and should be poised for similar production tonight. However, Arizona should be able to contribute a few goals as well. The Coyotes were shutout in back-to-back games against Tampa Bay and San Jose. After those losses, head coach Dave Tippett bemoaned his team for not working hard enough to generate enough chances and scoring opportunities and the Coyotes responded positively as they scored four goals and fired 31 shots on goal in a 4-2 win against the Edmonton Oilers last time out. Goaltending is still a bit suspect on both sides with Arizona goalie Mike Smith still working his way back into form from a recent injury and Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Boston Bruins at New York Rangers

Boston +110 at NY Rangers O/U 5
Recommendation: Boston

Two Original Six rivals clash in Manhattan tonight as the New York Rangers host the Boston Bruins in a game with big playoff implications . The Rangers have struggled to play consistent hockey for most of this season and have lost five of their last eight games overall. The Bruins have been playing good, solid hockey, earning at least a point in seven of their last 10 contests and holding one of the best road records in the NHL with a 23-10-3 mark. However, they now face-off with a Blueshirts club that protects their "Garden" well with a 24-8-3 record at MSG on the year. New York goaltender Henrik Lundqvist will have to regain his form in order for his club to gain momentum heading into the postseason. The Swedish native has lost five of his last six starts and has allowed three or more goals within the same span. Boston heads into this contest with a bit of a question mark between the pipes as head coach Claude Julien told the media that starter Tuukka Rask is feeling ill and both backups Jeremy Smith and Jonas Gustavsson will both make the trip to NYC. NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Tampa Bay Lightning at Dallas Stars

Tampa Bay at Dallas -115 O/U 5.5
Recommendation: Over

The Dallas Stars have a team capable of both making a deep playoff run in the Western Conference or getting bounced in the first round. The reason is their extremely unsteady goaltending which remains a constant concern. The duo of Antti Niemi and Kari Lehtonen has simply not gotten the job done in recent games with Dallas surrendering 3+ goals in seven of its last 10 including 16 in its last four. Even with the Kris Russell acquisition at the trade deadline which did upgrade the Stars defensively, the team is still struggling overall to keep the puck out of their own net and most importantly, struggling to get timely saves from either of their goalies. Tampa Bay’s simply possess too many weapons for their goal scoring woes to continue much longer. On the flip side, Dallas continues to be the highest scoring team in the NHL (3.2 gpg) and recently have netted 11 goals in three games against some pretty good Western Conference teams in Chicago, St. Louis and Los Angeles. We also have a strong high scoring track record in the recent series between the Lightning and Stars with the last five Read more
