NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Calgary Flames at Los Angeles Kings

Calgary at Los Angeles -200 O/U 5.5
Recommendation: Over

My clients and I have cashed a multitude of over-the-total winners involving the Calgary Flames since the All-Star break and that is a trend worth riding tonight as they head west to face the Los Angeles Kings. Calgary is struggling defensively and goalie Jonas Hiller has not been able to hold up since taking over the starting role for injured Karri Ramo. Hiller has allowed 22 goals over his last five starts in net. Flames defenseman Kris Russell is not a household name but he might be one of the more unsung injuries in the league. Russell is a plus defensive player in his own zone, a shot blocking machine, and also a very strong penalty killer. Calgary has allowed 18 goals to Anaheim (twice), Minnesota and Vancouver in its last four games without Russell on the ice as the penalty kill was ripped apart. He is likely to once again be out of the lineup for tonight's game. The Flames also have the suspension to Dennis Wideman in effect and they've lost another blue liner as Ladislav Smid went down with an injury in the loss to Minnesota and he has been placed on IR. That is bad news for an already Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Minnesota Wild at Edmonton Oilers

Minnesota -110 Edmonton O/U 5.5
Recommendation: See analysis

My clients and I cashed a pair of tickets with Minnesota and the over last night in its 5-3 win over Calgary and that is the same route I will take tonight as the Wild look to make it three straight wins since their coaching change. Minnesota has responded in a big way in its first two games under interim head coach John Torchetti having notched back-to-back wins over Vancouver and Calgary following a brutal 1-13 slide. They have played with a lot more energy and have been employing a more aggressive, attack minded style of hockey as they have burst out for 10 goals in their last two games. That is trouble for an Edmonton team that has struggled defensively most of the season especially of late as the Oilers have yielded 24 goals during their current 1-5 skid. It also doesn’t help that they’ve seen another defenseman go down with an injury as Eric Gryba suffered a knee injury in Edmonton’s last game against Anaheim and will be out for at least a month. That's not good for an Oilers team lacking quality depth on the blue line. This is not an optimal spot for Minnesota Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Buffalo Sabes at Ottawa Senators

Buffalo at Ottawa -145 O/U 5.5
Recommendation: Over

Two Atlantic Division clubs battle in the Canadian capital as the Ottawa Senators host the Buffalo Sabres tonight. Both clubs have fallen on hard times as of late with the Senators losing six of their last eight contests. The addition of defenseman Dion Phaneuf hasn't helped with their blueline issues as Ottawa's opponents have scored three or more goals in 12 of its last 15 games. Their penalty killing unit is dead last in the NHL having allowed 48 goals thus far in the season, and their 181 goals allowed overall is also a league-worst. Buffalo has lost seven of its last 11 games overall and will be without forward Evander Kane, who is scratched due to oversleeping and missing practice after partying on Sunday after the NBA All-Star Game in Toronto. His benching obviously hurts what has been an inconsistent offense. Ironically enough, the Sabres have been outshot in each of their wins dating all the way back to December 14th. Ottawa has gone over the total in seven of its last 10 games while the Sabres are currently on a 3-1 O/U. Even with Kane out, the defenses for both squads is suspect enough to Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Dallas Stars at Chicago Blackhawks

Dallas at Chicago -135 O/U 5.5
Recommendation: Under

Two of the best in the Western Conference clash together in the Windy City tonight as the Central Division-leading Chicago Blackhawks host the Dallas Stars. These two clubs played last Saturday in Dallas with the Blackhawks blowing out the Stars 5-1. Note that Chicago was actually out-shot 37-26. Chicago has won six of the last 10 meetings but aside from Saturday's game, these clubs have played each other tight in some high-scoring battles. The over has cashed in seven of the last 10 meetings with an average of six goals per game. Dallas has gone 4-0 O/U in their last four games after a string of four straight unders while Chicago has gone 7-8-3 O/U in 18 division contests this year and 3-5-2 O/U in their last 10. The Stars were very vocal about how they were embarrassed by Saturday’s showing and after a solid 4-3 OT win on Tuesday in Minnesota, I expect more emphasis on the defensive end. The Hawks will also be without rookie sensation Artemi Panerin, who has been dealing with the flu. They could have another tough time scoring after being shutout -- their third time in eight games -- Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Edmonton Oilers at New Jersey Devils

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Edmonton +105 at New Jersey O/U 5
Recommendation: Edmonton

We cashed a winner on the Edmonton Oilers last week as a free play and tonight looks like another solid opportunity. The Oilers are in serious bounce-back mode following an ugly weekend in which they suffered back-to-back blowout losses by a combined score of 13-2 against Montreal and the NY Islanders. Edmonton got the services of Connor McDavid back following the All-Star break and his impact was immediately felt as the team notched 5-1 and 7-2 victories against the Columbus Blue Jackets and Ottawa Senators, respectively. But the roof caved in this weekend as their defensive game was non-existent in 5-1 and 8-1 defeats. Head coach Todd McLellan was not pleased after the two games during the weekend quoted as saying: “We got our butts handed to us in Montreal and we came in here and responded in a very inappropriate way, and that’s very disappointing.” I think we will see a much better effort from tonight following such a brutal two-game set. New Jersey is probably a good opponent for the Oilers’ defense to get back on track against as the Devils are Read more
