College Football Gambling: CRIS vs. Rob Veno's Power Ratings Week 5

Submitted by Rob Veno

Sportsmemo Handicapper Rob Veno has been creating his own Power Ratings for nearly two decades. His numbers are very well respected and an excellent tool for discovering value. Rob’s PRs are a baseline and do not include key injuries or situations but they also don't overreact as much as the betting markets do week to week. Below is a chart of CRIS's current lines and Rob's College Football Power Ratings for Week 5.

NFL Betting Recap: More ugly TNF as San Francisco rolls over St. Louis

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Submitted by Stat Intelligence

There was a lot of talk in cyberspace today about how lousy Thursday Night NFL games have been. Figured I’d spend some time during a lousy first half logging what’s been happening in recent years. How do you define a “good” game for TV purposes? Everybody loves high scoring thrillers…but that shouldn’t be the standard every game has to live up to. I settled on these:

*Decided by one score (final margin is 8 points or less)

*Goes Over the Las Vegas total

*Ignore season openers because those have extended preparation time

NY Jets/New England two weeks ago was a close game at 13-10. But, it was still a pretty horrible game in terms of offensive execution. Entertainment usually means points on the board. So, I was looking for a combination of drama and production in a Thursday Night NFL game where teams only had three days to prepare. General run-of-the-mill Thursday Night football games on the NFL Read more

College Football Gambling: West Virginia to start Trickett vs. Oklahoma State

09.27.2013     07:07 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Oklahoma State -19 at West Virginia O/U 58

West Virginia will start its third different quarterback in four weeks with Clint Trickett getting the nod for Saturday's home tilt against Oklahoma State. Trickett transferred from Florida State. He last saw extended time during the 2011 campaign when he filled in for an injured EJ Manuel. It's pretty apparent that Ford Childress wasn't the answer so the move to Trickett is perhaps a welcomed sight for a struggling WVU offense.

College Football Betting Preview: Texas A&M Aggies at Arkansas Razorbacks

Texas A&M at Arkansas
Saturday, 4 pm PT - ESPN2
CRIS Opener:
Texas A&M -14 O/U 64
CRIS Current: Texas A&M -14.5 O/U 62
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Texas A&M -15.5
Brian Edwards' Recommendation: Over

Arkansas will have revenge on its mind when it takes on Texas A&M as a double-digit underdog Saturday in Fayetteville. The Razorbacks got demolished by a 58-10 count in College Station last season as 13-point underdogs.

There was no line on this game until early Thursday afternoon when most books made Texas A&M (3-1 SU, 3-1 ATS) a 14.5-point favorite with a total of 62.5. Gamblers can take Bret Bielema’s team on the money line for a +450 payout (risk $100 to win $450).

Kevin Sumlin’s squad bounced back from a 49-42 loss to Alabama to thump SMU 42-13 last week. The Aggies got the money as 28.5-point home favorites. Johnny Manziel produced 346 Read more

Texas A&M -14 at Arkansas O/U 62

Hey, lookie here, oddsmakers finally posted a line on Saturday's Texas A&M-Arkansas game. They were treating it like Peyton Manning was questionable for the Super Bowl. The Razorbacks expect to start quarterback AJ Derby. CRIS opened the game Aggies -14 and every major offshore sportsbook is currently showing the same.

College Football Betting Preview: Ole Miss Rebels at Alabama Crimson Tide

Mississippi at Alabama
Saturday, 3:30 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Alabama -13.5 O/U 56.5
CRIS Current: Alabama -14 O/U 54.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Alabam7a -17
Brent Crow's Recommendation: Over

Top ranked Alabama hosts Ole Miss this week in what could be another test for the Tide. Alabama has failed to cover in its last two wins and has yet to really play the dominant game that one might expect to see from the best team in the country. The problem is that they might not be the best team in the country, and there is no question that they are not as good as they were the last couple of years in which they won national titles. Don’t get me wrong, this team is good, and by the end of the year they might be celebrating a three-peat, but thus far, they have shown some holes in their game.

Bama beat Virginia Tech in its opener thanks to three return touchdowns, 35-10, but was actually Read more

College Football Handicapping: Week 5 Injury Report

09.26.2013     12:27 PM     Brian Edwards     Printer Friendly

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Florida senior defensive tackle Dominique Easley was lost for the season when he tore his ACL at Tuesday’s practice on a non-contact play. Easley was en route to garnering first-team All-American honors and a spot early in the first round of the NFL Draft. His loss will certainly hurt but if there’s a bright side, UF’s defensive line has incredible depth. This injury comes on the heels of starting quarterback Jeff Driskel’s season-ender in the win over Tennessee. Driskel underwent successful surgery on his broken tibia Wednesday and will most likely be granted a medical redshirt. Tyler Murphy, a junior who was a two-star recruit and saw five different quarterbacks take snaps before him during his career, played well against the Vols. He will make his first career road start Saturday at Kentucky.

Arkansas quarterback Brandon Allen, who has a 5/1 touchdown-to-interception ratio, sat out last week’s 28-24 loss at Rutgers. As of Thursday morning, Allen remained ‘doubtful’ (bruised shoulder) for Saturday’s home date vs. Texas A&M. Due to his uncertain status, there still wasn’t a line available. A.J. Derby is expected Read more

College Football Betting: SEC News and Notes - Week 4

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The SEC is taking some hits this year on the national football scene with some shaky performances on the field by some of its top teams. Florida and Tennessee got together last week for one of the ugliest offensive performances ever seen in SEC play. The two teams combined for nine turnovers and plenty of plays that went for negative yardage. The passing games were anemic, as four quarterbacks combined to complete 25-of-54 passes for 321 yards and five interceptions.

Florida emerged with the victory but lost starting quarterback Jeff Driskel for the season with a leg injury. To make matters worse for the Gators, they lost their best player this week during practice when defensive lineman Dominique Easley torn up his knee and he will miss the year. The loss of Easley will hurt the Gators more than the loss of Driskel, who had not been impressive thus far.

Alabama also struggled last week against Colorado State in Tuscaloosa before scoring two fourth quarter touchdowns to pull away with a 31-6 win. The Rams dominated the third quarter, but settled for two field goals on 127 total yards of offense while holding Bama to just 10 plays and 58 yards in the quarter. Bama Read more
