College Football Betting Preveiw: Michigan State Spartans at Oregon Ducks

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Michigan State at Oregon
Saturday, 3:30 pm PT - FOX
CRIS Opener:
Oregon -12.5 O/U 58.5
CRIS Current: Oregon -12 O/U 56
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Oregon -6
Andrew Lange's Recommendation: Oregon 1st half

Fascinating matchup with Michigan State headed to Eugene to take on Oregon. Obviously the theme of this handicap is contrasting styles. The Ducks want to go as fast as possible whereas Michigan State is happy to grind and have the game determined in the trenches. To compare, last season Oregon ran nearly 77 plays per game in PAC-12 play. Michigan State faced an average of 63 plays per game vs. the Big Ten. The Spartans have the benefit of health and extra time to prepare but this is a new class of game speed that coupled with the wild confines of Autzen will take MSU time to adjust.

While these two teams are different in many respects, they do have one thing in common and that's last Read more

College Football Gambling: South Carolina's defense primed for better showing?

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
East Carolina at South Carolina -16.5 O/U 63

South Carolina saying all the right things following last week's defensive no-show vs. Texas A&M. While not on the Aggies' level, this week's opponent, East Carolina, hung 55 and 42 on in-state foes North Carolina and NC State, respectively, last season. Virginia Tech, however, held the Pirates to 10 points and 204 yards.

"It was very embarrassing," said sophomore linebacker T.J. Holloman. "All the guys felt embarrassed, as we should. We should feel embarrassed after giving up that many points, setting a school record. But now we just turn that embarrassment into motivation, and keep driving and driving so it doesn't happen again."

"It hurt real bad, because I don't think anybody in the world

College Football Betting Alert: Bowling Green's Johnson out for the season

09.03.2014     11:57 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Big blow for Bowling Green with starting quarterback Matt Johnson out for the season with a hip injury. Last season Johnson had the 11st best QB rating in the country (161.7). Johnson finished 25-of-36 for 314 yards and a TD in last week's 59-31 loss to Western Kentucky. The Falcons, who play host to VMI on Saturday, will now turn to sophomore James Knapke.

Sportsbooks get hammered on Temple's upset over Vanderbilt

09.03.2014     11:42 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Not surprising, a lot of sportsbooks got nailed on last Thursday's Temple-Vanderbilt result. The Commodores opened -17 back in late July at CRIS but closed -8.5. Sportsmemo Handicapper Erin Rynning and his clients were a part of the move as ER released +13.5. The end result was a lopsided 37-7 Owls victory.

Stoneback estimated he took "at least eight or nine" $5,000 limit bets on Temple in addition to a few larger bets from casino players who were staying at the hotel and were offered extended limits.

"There wasn't any money on Vanderbilt," Stoneback said. "It was disastrous."

College Football Gambling: Texas' offensive line takes big hit

09.03.2014     11:28 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Not only will the Texas Longhorns be without quarterback David Ash (concussion) but the anchor of the offensive line, Dominic Espinosa (ankle), is also out indefinitely. Espinosa's injury now makes Texas on of the youngest and least experiences offensive lines in the country. Good article from burntorangenation.com on what to expect with UT's o-line moving forward. Still no widely available line on Saturday's game vs. BYU.

When Phil Steele released his annual list of the most experienced offensive lines around the nation this summer, the Horns were tied for No. 87 in the country with only 49 starts, most of them belonging to Espinosa.

Combined, the group would now rank No. 127 in the country in experience, in front of only Tennessee, which boasted six starts heading into the season.

College Football Betting Preview: Michigan Wolverines at Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Michigan at Notre Dame
Saturday, 4:30 pm PT - NBC
CRIS Opener:
Notre Dame -4.5 O/U 54.5
CRIS Current: Notre Dame -3.5 O/U 56
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Notre Dame -4
Teddy Covers' Recommendation: Over

Michigan has won and covered four of the last five meetings between these two teams, taking control of what had been a very competitive series in recent seasons.   In fact, prior to the Wolverines recent success, the taking the underdog plus the points had been the prevailing theme, winning outright in nine of the previous 12 meetings.   And, of course, with Michigan catching points in South Bend on Saturday, the trends clearly point towards the Wolverines as live underdogs here.

The Wolverines went through an ugly 0-5 SU and ATS run as an underdog heading into last November, but they covered three straight in that role down the stretch last year, finally showing success Read more

College Footbal Betting Preview: Kansas State Wildcats at Iowa State Cyclones

Saturday, 9 am PT - FS1
CRIS Opener:
Kansas State -12.5 O/U 60.5
CRIS Current: Kansas State -12 O/U 57
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Kansas State -10
Rob Veno's Recommendation: Over

Not an ideal start to the season for Iowa State who was slapped at home by defending FCS champion North Dakota State. They also lost premier offensive threat, wide receiver Quenton Bundrage (ACL) for the season. Suspended wide receiver D’avario Montgomery will be back from a one game suspension and they have enough depth at the position to ease the loss. But the health of starting center Tom Farniok, who left last week’s game with a knee injury, should be monitored. Farniok has been the lynchpin this offense the past two seasons and the unit struggles mightily when he’s not on the field. He is expected to play at less than 100% this week and the Cyclones will have their Read more
