College Football Betting Preview: Baylor Bears at Kansas State Wildcats

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Baylor at Kansas State
Saturday, 12:30 pm PT - FOX
CRIS Opener:
Baylor -10.5 O/U 72
CRIS Current: Baylor -17.5 O/U 73.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Baylor -10
Andrew Lange's Recommendation: Kansas State

Considering all the time that went into discussing this game in both the forum and podcast, I felt obligated to do this write-up. College football has changed so much over the last few years that profiles like this – WHO is laying WHAT at WHERE?? – no longer gain much attention. It’s the age of sophisticated offenses, sharp power ratings, and betting markets that would rather lay -30 with a dominant team than try to "hope for the best" with and outclassed foe despite the value. You can't accurately power rate what Baylor has done to this point simply because it is such rarified air. We've seen it with Oregon but the Ducks are a proven commodity whereas Baylor is not. College Football Betting Preview: Texas A&M Aggies at Ole Miss Rebels

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Texas A&M at Mississippi
Saturday, 5:30 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Texas A&M -5 O/U 75.5
CRIS Current: Texas A&M -6 O/U 76
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Texas A&M -5.5
Brian Edwards' Recommendation: Mississippi

Ole Miss will try to avoid a three-game losing streak when it takes on Texas A&M in Oxford. As of Friday morning, most books had the Aggies installed as six-point favorites with the total in the 75-76 range. For first-half wagers, Kevin Sumlin’s squad is favored by three (at a -120 price) with a total of 38. Gamblers can back the Rebels on the money line for a +190 return (risk $100 to win $190).

Texas A&M (4-1 SU, 3-2 ATS) has had two weeks to prep for this spot. Before the open date, the Aggies went into Fayetteville and captured a 45-33 win over Arkansas in a back-and-forth affair. They failed to cover the number as 13.5-point road favorites. Read more

Thursday Night Football Betting Recap: Eli Throws More Picks, Louisville Misses Kicks

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Submitted by Stat Intelligence

Kind of a sloppy night in football. In the two early games everyone was watching…Giants/Bears and Rutgers/Louisville…everybody committed at least three turnovers but Chicago. And, they missed so many tackles and played such crappy defense that they didn’t exactly sparkle as a team in their victory. Let’s crunch the numbers…

(If you’re new to the site, “Drive Points” are those scored on drives of 60 yards or more. “Stat Score” is an estimate of what the final score should have been based only on rushing and passing yardage. The formula for that is 2 times rushing yardage…plus passing yardage…times 0.67…divided by 15. Sloppiness is a quickfire stat to measure execution…the formula is 5 times giveaways plus the number of incomplete passes…lower is better because you want to avoid sloppiness)

Chicago 27, NY Giants 21 (+9.5)

NYG: 355 yards, 6.7 per-play, 3 Read more

NCAA Football Betting Alert: Maryland's CJ Brown doubtful vs. Virginia

Virginia at Maryland -7 O/U 44.5

Just announced on Twitter that Maryland quarterback CJ Brown (concussion) is “doubtful” for Saturday’s game vs. Virginia. The Terps opened 4-point favorites but mid-week were bet up to -7/-7.5 – an indication bettors were confident that Brown would suit up. We’ll update tomorrow on Brown’s potential replacement.

Sportsmemo Handicapper Rob Veno has been creating his own Power Ratings for nearly two decades. His numbers are very well respected and an excellent tool for discovering value. Rob’s PRs are a baseline and do not include key injuries or situations but they also don't overreact as much as the betting markets do week to week. Below is a chart of CRIS's current lines and Rob's College Football Power Ratings for Week 7.

College Football Handicapping: Week 7 Injury Report

10.10.2013     08:06 AM     Brian Edwards     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Brian Edwards

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Louisville WR DaVante Parker is ‘questionable’ tonight vs. Rutgers with a shoulder injury. Parker has 21 receptions for 375 yards and six TDs.

Rutgers LB Jamal Merrell will be back tonight after missing three games with a kidney ailment. Merrell was the Scarlet Knights’ leading returning tackler who had 7.5 stops for losses last year. RU running back Paul James will miss his second straight game at Louisville. James has run for 573 yards and six TDs this year.

South Carolina All-American DE and future first-round pick Jadeveon Clowney didn’t go in last week’s 35-28 win over Kentucky. For the third straight game, the Gamecocks burned their backers by giving up another backdoor cover. Clowney (bruised ribs) remains ‘questionable’ for Saturday’s game at Arkansas. The air seems to have been cleared with Steve Spurrier and Clowney making comments this week about his commitment to the team that came in question when he told his coaches he couldn’t play against UK. On the complete flip side, Connor Shaw did play against the ‘Cats after hurting his shoulder the week before. Shaw showed no signs of pain in Read more

Behold! The squarest football parlay in the history of sports betting

10.10.2013     07:10 AM     Printer Friendly
This could be the squarest parlay in this history of sports betting and of course...it won! Some dude dialed up an 18-team moneyline parlay that essentially featured college football's top 25, a team playing the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Peyton Manning All-Stars. The lucky bastard did have to sweat on a few of them most notably the Broncos-Cowboys game which was Game 18. All told he risked $282 (so random) and won $54K. It looks as if he was using BetOnline which after the loss probably limited its entire client base to $25 sides and -120 juice the remainder of the football season. Below is the list of 18 dead-nuts winners...

Florida State
Clemson

College Football Betting Preview: Oregon Ducks at Washington Huskies

Oregon at Washington
Saturday, 1 pm PT - FS1
CRIS Opener:
Oregon -10.5 O/U 76
CRIS Current: Oregon -13.5 O/U 75.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Oregon -15.5
Ian Cameron's Recommendation: Over

This PAC-12 showdown should be played at a very fast, breakneck pace from both of these up-tempo offenses as Oregon and Washington are poised to light up the scoreboard for the duration of this game. Oregon has been executing its up-tempo spread attack at a flawless rate averaging 59.2 points per game and they have scored at least 50 points in a school record five straight games. The Ducks rank second nationally in total offense with 630.4 yards per game.

Last week against Colorado we got to see the depth that Oregon has as they employed a very strong ground attack even without top RB De’Anthony Thomas. He didn’t suit up due to an ankle injury and is questionable to return on Saturday. Read more

Betting College Football Totals: High numbers continue to produce OVERS

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
I was going to write about something else this in this column until some college football handicapping work I was doing prompted me to change. As one who releases and plays totals in football and basketball far more than sides, I have a substantial personalized list of things that I make decisions off of. One of the elements takes place every three weeks of the college football season where over/under results are categorized in groups of tens beginning with 30 through 39.5 and nowadays ending with 80-89.5. The every three week premise is just to get larger sample sizes and break the season into quarters which I feel is important. This season’s six week records showed the sixties to be a totals group that is really endearing themselves to over bettors. Disregarding extra board games, college football closing totals ranging from 60-69.5 are 40-28, 58.9% O/U. There have been two pushes which had +1.5 and +2 point increases off the opener so if you got in early you could be 42-28, 60% O/U. Those are strong bankroll building numbers. A logical would be the swarm of overs may have slowed down last week because of the overwhelming number of conference game but totals in this Read more
