Florida -110 at Ottawa O/U 5.5
Recommendation: Florida

If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em and right now the Florida Panthers are a team that can’t be beaten. The red hot Panthers head to Ottawa looking for their 11th consecutive win which has already been established as a franchise record winning streak. Three Florida players were named to the All-Star ame yesterday: Jaromir Jagr at the ripe age of 43, goaltender Roberto Luongo and 19-year-old defenseman Aaron Ekblad. I can’t think of three bigger reasons why Florida has surged to this 10-game winning streak and risen to the top of the Atlantic Division. Jagr has played like he is 20 years younger than he actually is registering 14 goals and 29 points in 37 game. Ekblad is a dominant defenseman already at his age at both ends of the ice and has a team leading +16 rating in plus/minus. Luongo has turned back the clock in between the pipes with one of his best seasons in recent memory. He enters tonight with sparkling numbers including a 2.06 GAA and .930 save percentage. Jonathan Huberdeau and Aleksander Barkov have also been integral components to Florida’s recent Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Play: Chicago Blackhawks at Pittsburgh Penguins

Chicago +100 at Pittsburgh O/U 5
Recommendation: Chicago

The Chicago Blackhawks open up a home-and-home series at Pittsburgh this evening. Chicago has heated up as of late with a current three-game winning streak and victories in 10 of its last 14 overall. Patrick Kane has continued to light up the scoreboard with 12 points in his last 10 games. Along with his linemates Artem Anisimov and Artemi Panarin, the trio have combined for 49 goals this season. Corey Crawford has been outstanding between the pipes, recording his league-leading sixth shutout in a 26-save effort over Ottawa on Sunday night. The 31-year old netminder has won nine of his last 12 starts and allowed two or fewer goals in nine of those contests. The Penguins are trying to turn things around on their season having won four of their last six games after suffering a five-game losing streak. The return of goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury from a mild concussion means an obvious upgrade to what had been a very unstable tandem of backups Jeff Zatkoff and call-up Matt Murray. Zatkoff lost three of his last four starts and was demoted to the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton upon Fleury's Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Play: Winnipeg Jets at Arizona Coyotes

Winnipeg -120 at Arizona O/U 5.5
Recommendation: Winnipeg

The Winnipeg Jets have won back-to-back games against Detroit and Pittsburgh and now take to the road to face the Arizona Coyotes. Winnipeg has had nothing but problems away from home this season as they come into tonight with a miserable 1-11 record in their last 12 road games. However, the Jets are playing better now than they have at any other point this season and there has been a lot of chatter from Winnipeg’s camp about this being a season defining five game road trip starting tonight. I expect to see a very inspired and motivated effort from the Jets and they are facing a very beatable opponent tonight as they take on a deficient Arizona squad that is having major issues defensively and in goal right now. The Coyotes have yielded four goals or more in seven of their last 13 games and the goaltending duo of Anders Lindback and Louis Domingue, who are Arizona’s two options in net with Mike Smith out long-term due to injury, are not stepping up and playing at an NHL caliber level on a consistent basis these days. Winnipeg is getting solid goaltending right now thanks to Connor Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Play: Montreal Canadiens at Florida Panthers

Montreal at Florida O/U 5
Recommendation: Florida -1.5 +200

The top two clubs in the Atlantic Division hook-up on Tuesday night as the Florida Panthers host the Montreal Canadiens. Things have spiraled out of control for Les Habitants, who had lost 11 of their last 13 games before a big 4-3 comeback shootout victory over rival Tampa Bay. Montreal has struggled at both ends of the ice with the offense scoring two or fewer goals in 12 of their last 14 contests. The injury to starting goalie Carey Price has forced the Habs to call upon rookie Mike Condon and backup Dustin Tokarski. Condon has lost seven of his last eight starts while Tokarski has dropped three of his last four. One bright spot for the Habs is that forward Brendan Gallagher could return to action soon. The 23-year-old has missed over a month of action with a pair of broken fingers that required surgery. As for the Panthers, they’ve won five straight games and are on a 10-3 run in December. They have been winning games with a balanced cast of offensive contributors led by Reilly Smith's 11 goals, along with 10 tallies from young defenseman Aaron Eckblad and veteran winger Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Play: San Jose Sharks at Los Angeles Kings

San Jose at Los Angeles -165 O/U 5
Recommendation: Over

Two Pacific Division rivals clash before the Christmas break as the San Jose Sharks travel down to battle the Los Angeles Kings. This game will wrap up a five-game road trip for the Sharks who have lost nine of their last 12 games overall. The defense has been very inconsistent of late allowing 30 or more shots on net in five of their last seven games and allowing exactly four goals in six of their last eight contests. Los Angeles has gone on a 1-3 run after winning six straight games. They return home after splitting a six-game road trip out East, allowing 40 or more shots in two of their last five. These two clubs have split the first two meetings this season, with the Kings winning the last match-up a month ago 4-1, avenging their opening night 5-1 loss. ‎I expect both clubs to be fatigued here with the holiday break on deck. The Sharks are on a 7-3 O/U run in their last 10 and at the current price of 5 with slight juice towards the over, they’re prime to add to it. Play this one over the total.

NHL Handicapper Free Play: Calgary Flames at Dallas Stars

Calgary +180 at Dallas O/U 5.5
Recommendation: Calgary

My clients and I cashed a big dog winner on Calgary in their 2-1 OT win at Nashville on Tuesday night and I think the surging Flames are worth a play in this price range as they head to Dallas to face the Stars. It’s not easy to bet against Dallas as they possess the league’s best record at 23-6-1-1 but the Stars have not been quite as dominant in the short term with a 6-4 mark in their last 10 games. Calgary is on a major roll right now going 6-0 in their last six games and the way they gutted out wins on their recent home stand where they won all five games and against some good teams (Dallas, Boston, San Jose, Buffalo, and the NY Rangers) despite several players battling the flu. The Flames players spoke about really wanting to correct their road woes prior to the first game of their current road trip against Nashville and they played a very good game especially defensively holding the Predators to just 22 shots on goal in their 2-1 overtime win. The Flames are getting excellent offensive production from their top players lately with Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan hitting the Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Play: St. Louis Blues at Winnipeg Jets

St. Louis at Winnipeg -110 O/U 5
Recommendation: Winnipeg

It's a Central Division clash in the Great White North tonight as the Winnipeg Jets host the St. Louis Blues. Winnipeg has won four of their last seven games thanks in part to the stellar play between the pipes from rookie goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. He’s won four of his first five starts for the Jets since his recall on November 22nd in absence of Ondrej Pavelec, who is out with a knee injury. St. Louis has been slipping as of late, losing six of their last nine games overall. Vladimir Tarasenko has been the only skater pulling his weight on the score-sheet with five goals in his last 10 games. The goalie tandem of Jake Allen and Brian Elliott is once again looking shaky with Allen losing five of his last nine starts and Elliott dropping his last three outings overall. The Blues took the first two meetings in this season series by close scores of 3-2 and 4-2 but with the Jets having the edge not just in net, but also up front with balanced scoring from forwards Mark Scheifele, Andrew Ladd, and defenseman Dustin Byfuglien I think they’re in a great spot to pick up two points in Read more
