Big Ten Championship Betting Preview: Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Wisconsin Badgers

Nebraska vs. Wisconsin
Saturday, 5 pm PT, Indianapolis – FOX
CRIS Opener:
Nebraska -3 O/U 49
CRIS Current: Nebraska -3 O/U 49
Rob Veno’s Power Rating: Wisconsin pk

The Badgers are back in the Big Ten title game this season after beating Michigan State last year 42-39 and advancing to the Rose Bowl.  This year’s edition of Wisconsin football is a far cry from last year’s dream season with quarterback Russell Wilson.  In fact, the Badgers backed into the title game due to Ohio State and Penn State being ineligible.  Meanwhile, the Cornhuskers will be excited to play in the second ever Big Ten Championship.  The Huskers do have a history of playing in conference title games having reached the Big XII’s version as recently as 2009 and 2010.

The Badgers were expected to take a step back in 2012 and they certainly did.  Still, not many expected a 7-5 Read more

College Football Betting Alert: Rain in the forecast for PAC-12 Championship

UCLA at Stanford -8.5 O/U 45

Tonight's PAC-12 Championship between UCLA and Stanford is expected to be a wet one. It's raining as we speak and will continue to do so throughout the day. Note that the wind is currently at 20 mph but is expected to die down considerably by kickoff. Also note that Stanford Stadium has natural grass and while the field is currently covered, conditions could get messy in the second half.

College Football Betting Alert: Louisville QB Stein will start vs. Rutgers

Louisville at Rutgers -3 O/U 43

Louisville just announced that quarterback Will Stein will start tonight's game against Rutgers. Teddy Bridgewater may still see action despite breaking his wrist and spraining his ankle in last week's loss to UConn.

Kentucky at Notre Dame -1 O/U 134
Recommendation: Notre Dame

Experience vs. talent tonight in South Bend with Kentucky taking on Notre Dame. Not that the Irish don't have talent but when this game starts, you'll quickly notice who possesses the quicker, more athletic team. The Irish return everyone from last year's 22-win squad that beat Louisville on the road and at one point reeled off nine straight Big East wins. They also boast a strong home court with only one loss (2011 vs. UConn) over the last two-plus years. Over the last few editions, the Irish have toughened up and slowed down the pace of their games considerably – a good combo to have when facing the ultra-young Wildcats. John Calipari has been honest in saying that it will take time for this team to figure how the way he wants them to play. We saw the Cats struggle to get past Maryland in the season opener, lose to Duke down in Atlanta and limp past Morehead State in Lexington. In last year's Read more

College Football Betting: Updating Thursday's major line moves

11.29.2012     12:28 PM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Some significant line moves for this week's college football card have taken place over the last few hours. Let's take a look at what went down.

Louisville at Rutgers: The Scarlet Knights opened this game -2.5 and were quickly bet up to -3 where it held for much of the week. Earlier this morning we saw the juice on the -3 jump to -115 and -120. Apparently too many bettors were comfortable supporting the home side at a field goal as the books were forced to go with -3.5. Middle opportunity?

Northern Illinois vs. Kent State: We mentioned early in the week that with the dead number of 5 on the opener, you knew the markets were going to take stance on one side or the other and that side is without question NIU. Over the last hour or so bettors took out all of the -6.5's with -7 now the prevailing number. CRIS interestingly just moved to -7.5.

Pittsburgh at South Florida: Pitt needs a win to become bowl eligible but the influx of Panther money likely has more to do with South Florida's impressive tank job they've been hard at work with over the last two months. Still a few -6.5's out there but -7 the Read more

ACC Championship Gambling Preview: Florida State Seminoles vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Florida State vs. Georgia Tech
Saturday, 5 pm PT, Charlotte – ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Florida State -13 O/U 63.5
CRIS Current: Florida State -14 O/U 61.5
Rob Veno’s Power Rating: Florida State -8

So much for Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher’s public complaining about how his team was unjustly ranked so low in the BCS standings. His campaigning for FSU as more of a top 4 team than a top 10 team was silenced for good by the Florida Gators who not only rallied in the fourth quarter but piled up 24 points in that stanza to win by a significant margin, 37-26. FSU’s home field failure as 7-point favorites against Florida and their banged up quarterback Jeff Driskell could cause them to enter this game flat but don’t count on it. The reality is that Florida State was never going to be playing for the national title and Fisher should’ve recognized that and had his team better Read more

College Football Handicapping: Bettors not eager to support Notre Dame

11.29.2012     07:35 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Las Vegas oddsmakers weigh in on the potential matchups for the BCS National Championship. The Wynn is offering lines on both Alabama-Notre Dame and Georgia-Notre Dame with little support coming in on the Irish. The Crimson Tide were bet up to a 10-point favorite while the Bulldogs moved from -1 to -3.5.

“Four days from now, we’ll be rooting for Georgia to upset the Alabama Crimson Tide,” William Hill sports books spokesman Jimmy Vaccaro predicted.

“After talking to some of the people who bet a lot on football, they don’t think that team is for real,” Wynn race and sports director Johnny Avello said of Notre Dame. “That’s their opinion. A lot of people just don’t believe in them. That’s the problem.”

College Football Betting: UCLA-Stanford total down to 43.5

11.29.2012     07:23 AM     Printer Friendly
UCLA at Stanford -8 O/U 43.5

The total of Friday's PAC-12 Championship between UCLA and Stanford continues to get bet down with most offshore sportsbooks showing 43.5 after CRIS opened the game 51.5. Last week's matchup just crept over the total of 51 as Stanford won 35-17. In both wins over UCLA and Oregon, Stanford held a 37-23 time of possession advantage. Line history courtesy of CRIS.

C-USA Championship Betting Preview: UCF Knights at Tulsa Golden Hurricane

Central Florida at Tulsa
Saturday, 9 am PT - ESPN2
CRIS Opener:
Tulsa -1 O/U 56
CRIS Current: Tulsa -2 O/U 55
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Tulsa -1.5

In what will be their swan song as part of Conference-USA, the UCF Knights will look to exit with the league crown as they travel to Tulsa to battle the Golden Hurricane in Saturday’s conference title game.

UCF wasn’t sure earlier this season if they’d even get the chance to participate in a bowl game. They were banned from bowl participation in August due to recruiting violations but the school elected to appeal the ruling and their fate won’t be decided until next season. The Knights finished 9-3 and 7-1 in C-USA play with their lone conference loss coming against Tulsa on this field a few weeks back, 23-21. Tulsa squeaked out the pointspread cover as a 1-point home and the game stayed under the total of 54. Tulsa finished with Read more
