College Football Betting Preview: Auburn Tigers at Georgia Bulldogs

Submitted by ICC blog entry.
Auburn at Georgia
Saturday, 4:15 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Georgia -2 O/U 67.5
CRIS Current: Georgia -2 O/U 69.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Georgia -1.5
Ian Cameron's Recommendation: Over

Auburn will try to shake off a stunning home loss to Texas A&M as it travels to Athens to take on Georgia. These teams played a thriller last season; famous the “immaculate deflection” when a tipped pass ended up in the hands of Auburn’s Ricardo Louis for the game winning touchdown. These teams combined for nearly 1,100 total yards and even though Georgia no longer has Aaron Murray the offense is very capable of putting up points, especially with Todd Gurley back from suspension. In Gurley’s absence, the Bulldogs still made out fine as Nick Chubb rushed for 671 yards, including four consecutive games of 143 or more yards, and five touchdowns. The passing game has come alive as well with 573 Read more

College Football Handicapping: Mississippi State focused on stopping Alabama run game

11.13.2014     11:06 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Good article on Mississippi State's defensive gameplan vs. Alabama. The Bulldogs have sold out on the run all season and it plays out as such in the stats: 3rd in the SEC in rushing defense (126.7 ypg) and 14th against the pass (300.6 ypg). They claim they won't deviate from that philosophy against the Crimson Tide even if it means single coverage on playmaker Amari Cooper.

"We do what we do," Mississippi State defensive coordinator Geoff Collins said. "The emphasis all year and all the time is to stop the run.

"At times, there will be kids put in 1-on-1 situations on pass rush or an open-field tackle, so the kids understand that we move stress around throughout the game and sometimes you're going to have some stress on you, so the challenge is to make that play when it comes."

College Football Gambling: Oklahoma saying right things following Baylor embarrassment

11.13.2014     06:39 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Playing for pride is not something you often hear associated with Oklahoma but after last week's 48-14 loss to Baylor, the Sooners have three losses and two non-descript games against Texas Tech and Kansas upcoming before what is likely to be a ho-hum Battle of Bedlam. The team of course is saying all the right things heading into Saturday's game at Texas Tech. No line yet to do the questionable status of Sooners quarterback Trevor Knight.

"You have to win," defensive lineman Chuka Ndulue said. "That's the mentality. Because your goals are out the window now, it doesn't mean you have to go out there and give up on everything. There's still some pride that goes around the team. We want to accomplish finishing the season off on a high note and that's what we are going to do."

College Football Betting Preview: Nebraska Cornhuskers at Wisconsin Badgers

Nebraska at Wisconsin
Saturday, 12:30 pm PT - ABC
CRIS Opener:
Wisconsin -6 O/U 55.5
CRIS Current: Wisconsin -6 O/U 57
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Wisconsin -4
OTTO Sports' Recommndation: Under

Big battle in the Big Ten with Nebraska and Wisconsin both 4-1 in league play and in the hunt for the West Division title. This time of year we as bettors have a tendency to focus in on the conference-only statistics but in this case, because of strength of schedule, it’s hard to conclude just how good these two team are.

Wisconsin is currently a ridiculous +2.93 ypp in conference play; the type of stat you see attached to national title contenders which this team is not. The reason of course is UW's super-soft schedule. If you were to name the top four teams in the Big Ten outside of Wisky you'd probably come up with Ohio State, Michigan State, Nebraska, and Minnesota. Wisconsin hasn't Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Utah Utes at Stanford Cardinal

Submitted by Andrew Lange blog entry.
Utah at Stanford
Saturday, 3 pm PT - PAC-12 Network
CRIS Opener:
Stanford -8 O/U 46.5
CRIS Current: Stanford -7.5 O/U 43.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Stanford -8
Andrew Lange's Recommendation: See analysis

Last week I was finally able to cash in against Utah as the Utes were smoked at home by Oregon, 51-27. The Ducks moved the ball with relative ease and took a page out of Utah's book by posting a +3 turnover margin. The loss was a real gut punch for Utah with multiple injuries and elimination from the PAC-12 South race. Meanwhile Stanford has had a week to recover from its own Oregon disaster and the realization it is playing for a second-tier bowl.

Utah has amazingly been outgained in seven straight games by an average of 86 ypg. The fact that they posted a winning record during that span and more importantly a 5-2 ATS mark is a testament to this squad’s grit and hard-nosed nature. Read more

College Football Gambling Update: A look back at Florida State's Game of the Year pointspreads

11.11.2014     07:47 AM     Printer Friendly

Quick look back at the Golden Nugget Game of the Year pointspreads on Florida State. Off last year’s National Championship and with a lot of starters/talent returning, the Seminoles were priced extremely high. Fast forward to the regular season and while FSU is undefeated from a straight up perspective, they've obviously fell well short of expectations and have not covered a single GOY pointspread. Those bettors who were proactive and faded the Seminoles during the summer have had been in some very favorable situations the this season.

College Football Gambling: Your obligatory Jameis Winston point shaving scandal

11.08.2014     07:55 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Considering Jameis Winston's off-the-field troubles and Florida State's shorting comings against the spread (2-6), we're actually kind of shocked it took until Week 11 for TMZ to report an almost assuredly bogus Winston/Seminole point shaving scandal. Someone clearly asleep at the wheel.
