College Football Gambling: Marshall's defense among nation's leaders

10.09.2013     08:49 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Marshall -13 at Florida Atlantic O/U 54

Take a look at the top 20 defenses in the country in terms of yards per game allowed and you'll see a lot of familiar faces: Michigan State, Florida, Virginia Tech, and Alabama. But checking in at No. 8 is a bit of surprise...the Marshall Thundering Herd. We don't need to go into detail about just how historically bad MU's stop unit was last season. Just know that through five games, the Herd has yet to allow more than 4.5 yards per play. First-year defensive coordinator Chuck Heater deserves a lot of credit and head coach Doc Holliday noted that the team is a lot more athletic at linebacker and in the secondary. The numbers could improve considering Marshall's next four opponents; Florida Atlantic, Middle Tennessee, Southern Miss, and UAB all rank 92nd or worse nationally in total offense. Four of the Herd's five games have gone UNDER the Read more

NCAA Football Gambling: Purdue turns to freshman quarterback

10.09.2013     07:53 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Nebraska -14 at Purdue O/U 57

During the bye week, Purdue decided to make a switch at quarterback and will start 19-year old freshman Danny Etling vs. Nebraska on Saturday. Etling came in for senior Rob Henry during Week 5’s 55-24 blowout loss to Northern Illinois. He finished 19-of-39, 241 yards, two TDs, and two INTs. Note that only ranks the top 100 quarterbacks in terms of QB Rating and Henry (100.7) isn’t even on the list – Georgia State’s Ronnie Bell is 100th at 106.6. Nowhere to go but up, bettors.

"I slept on it, and I had a pretty good idea and I called coach (John) Shoop in and we talked about it," Hazell said. "I said a few weeks ago, when we go to Danny, if we go to Danny, that when we go, we have to go.

"We can't go back and forth. I said, 'When we decide if we

College Football Betting Update: Holgorsen and Trickett still not on the same page

10.08.2013     11:34 AM     Printer Friendly

Heading into last week's game at Baylor, we posted a blog on the communication difficulties between West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen and quarterback Clint Trickett. By all accounts those issues continued as Trickett finished 9-of-28 for 161 yards and the Mountaineers did little to nothing offensively until the fourth quarter when the game out of reach. WVU will try to shore things up during the bye week as it prepares for a home tilt vs. Texas Tech.

“I’m not doing something right,” Holgorsen said. “There (were) a lot of times in the first couple of series’ where I was giving (Trickett) specific orders, and they weren’t being followed.”

“Offensively, we’re not equipped to keep up at this point in time. Hopefully we get there at some point,” said West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen.

College Football Betting: Utah State loses Keeton and two other starters

10.07.2013     01:36 PM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Boise State -7 at Utah State

Only if the entire team comes down with the flu can things get worse for Utah State. Star quarterback Chuckie Keeton is out for the year with a knee injury. The Aggies are TBA on either junior Craig Harrison or freshman Darell Garretson as his replacement. Harrison finished 18-of-41 for 185 yards and a touchdown in last week's 31-14 loss to BYU. The Aggies also lost running back Joe Hill (252 yards, 4.75 ypc) and guard Kyle Whimpey to season-ending injuries.

"You’ll know on game day. That’ll be about the last time I answer that," Wells said. "Those two guys are going to work together. We’re going to see who settles in the best, and whoever it is, that’s who we’re going with."
