College Football Handicapping: Missouri players meet with defensive coordinator

10.11.2016     08:53 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
A year removed from allowing only 302 ypg (2nd SEC), Missouri's defense has taken a significant step back. Two weeks ago, LSU rolled up 634 yards (7.7 ypp) in a 42-7 win Baton Rouge. During the bye week, the players met with defensive coordinator DeMontie Cross to voice their concerns about Cross's complex system. The Tigers travel to Gainesville this Saturday to face Florida. The Gators are currently -13.5/-14 favorites while the total was hammered up to 50.5.

“Sometimes everyone’s just frustrated but nobody’s talking about how to make it better,” MU middle linebacker Michael Scherer said. “And nothing ever gets better.”

“He wanted to know how we felt,” Scherer said. “He wanted to know how he could contribute to help us play better. He’s not (saying), ‘My way or the highway.’ He’s listening to us. He’s taking opinions from us.”

Safety Thomas Wilson added: “He just

College Football Betting Preview: Michigan Wolverines at Rutgers Scarlet Knights

10.07.2016     11:28 AM     Andrew Lange     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Andrew Lange

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Michigan at Rutgers
Saturday, 4 pm PT - ESPN2
CRIS Opener:
Michigan -25.5 O/U 56
CRIS Current: Michigan -30 O/U 53
Recommendation: First half over

With the exception of last week's 14-7 win over Wisconsin, Michigan has played the role of bully this season with wins by 39, 17, 37, and 60. There were 149 points score in the first half of those four games (37.3 avg) with a vast majority courtesy of the Wolverines. Head coach Jim Harbaugh came into the season with a reputation of playing it vanilla with a big lead. This year, he's been far more aggressive. We've even seen multiple instance in which backup quarterback John O'Korn entered the game late during a blowout and proceeded to take shots down field.

This week's opponent, Rutgers, offers another opportunity to “name the score.” The Scarlet Knights managed just seven points against Iowa and were shutout last week in Columbus, 58-0. Chris Ash has his work cut out for him and it's tough to envision his squad having much success in this contest. And while much of the focus is on the offense's struggles, the Scarlet Knights' defense Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Cincinnati Bearcats at UConn Huskies

Cincinnati at UConn
Saturday, 8:30 am PT - CBSC
CRIS Opener:
Cincinnati -2.5 O/U 49
CRIS Current: Cincinnati -2.5 O/U 47.5
Recommendation: Cincinnati

The UConn Huskies have not been able to step up in class yet this season and I think they will struggle to do so once again on Saturday when they face the Cincinnati Bearcats. Connecticut suffered a loss as favorites on this field against Syracuse which just gave up 56 points to Notre Dame and were blown out by Houston last week on the road. I don’t trust them enough here in a price range where UConn has to win the game or at least come very close in order to cash a ticket. Cincinnati is without their starting quarterback Hayden Moore once again for this game due to an ankle injury. Ross Trail got his first ever start as a freshman last week and had some good moments completing 20-of-30 passes for 216 passing yards along with a TD. He also had 3 interceptions but turnover miscues are to be expected from a rookie. Head coach Tommy Tuberville hasn’t named his starter yet but it will either be Trail or senior Gunner Kiel who has strangely fallen Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Oklahoma Sooners vs. Texas Longhorns

10.05.2016     12:06 PM     Teddy Covers     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Teddy Covers

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Oklahoma vs. Texas - Dallas
Saturday, 9 am PT - FS-1
CRIS Opener:
Oklahoma -10.5 O/U 72
CRIS Current: Oklahoma -10 O/U 73
Recommendation: Over

To say that the Longhorns new uptempo offense has paid immediate dividends is something of an understatement.  The Longhorns rank among the Top 10 teams in the country in pace ratings, averaging just shy of 85 plays per game.

Sterlin Gibert’s attack is averaging 38 points per game in regulation through their first four contests, behind the strong arm of Shane Buechele and the D’Onta Foreman/Chris Warren running back duo, combining to average nearly 6.5 yards per carry.  And these aren’t padded numbers against bottom tier FCS schools or Sun Belt squads either – three of the Longhorns first four opponents were Power 5 conference bowl teams last year (Notre Dame, Cal and Oklahoma State).

Oklahoma is no stranger to playing uptempo football, even though their full season pace rating isn’t quite as high as that of Texas.  The Sooners game against uptempo TCU last week produced 98 points, with both teams Read more

College Football Gambling: Oddsmakers and bettors react to Hurricane Matthew

College Football Betting Preview: Syracuse Orange at Wake Forest Demon Deacons

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Syracuse at Wake Forest
Saturday, 4 pm PT
CRIS Opener:
Wake Forest -3 O/U 56
CRIS Current: Wake Forest -3 O/U 54
Recommendation: Wake Forest

Game time of 7 pm local on Saturday night is important here because rain figures to be a significant factor due to the looming tropical storm. That should make this a very sloppy track which likely bothers the extreme tempo of Syracuse. Rain is projected to be steady on Saturday and intensify as the day goes on brings ball handling on each end of the passing game into play. I expect Dino Babers to level his play calling a bit and work in more of the ground game. The Fieldturf surface here at BB&T Field doesn’t present the same degree of offensive limitation that natural grass would but nonetheless the steady rain will probably dictate some changes.

Wake Forest has been solid on the ground this season against foes who they can push around and the Syracuse run defense fits that bill (205 ypg allowed). The Demon Deacons play calling percentages is just a tick over 60/40 for the season and they will use the run to shorten the game and keep the Read more
