College Football Betting Preview: Nebraska Cornhuskers at Ohio State Buckeyes

Nebraska at Ohio State
Saturday, 5 pm PT - ABC
CRIS Opener:
Ohio State -13.5 O/U 54
CRIS Current: Ohio State -17 O/U 51.5
Recommendation: Ohio State

Ohio State knows that its only chance to get into the College Football Playoffs is to beat Michigan in the regular season finale. But before the Buckeyes get there, they must face Nebraska and then back-to-back road games at Maryland and Michigan State. As bettors, we don't pay a lot of attention to the Playoff Rankings but it's hard not to notice how generous they are towards the Big Ten with five teams in the top 12. One of those teams is Nebraska (10th) who somehow checks in ahead of Florida, LSU, Oklahoma and a few others they'd assuredly be an underdog to on a neutral field. So while Ohio State has its eye on November 26, this is an opportunity to beat a "quality" foe.

Following their loss to Penn State, the Buckeyes limped past Northwestern 24-20. They never trailed but the box score was very even. It was a classic "letdown" spot as OSU never sniffed a pointspread cover as -26 favorites. Note that OSU opened that game Read more

College Football Gambling: UConn makes switch at offensive coordinator

11.02.2016     09:48 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Desperate for some sort of offensive boost, UConn head coach promoted wide receiver coach David Corley to offensive coordinator. Corley's only play calling experience was a "few series" due to a headset malfunction while at FCS William & Mary. The Huskies play host to Temple on Friday. The Owls rank second in the AAC in total defense (306 ypg allowed) and are currently -10 road favorites.

"We can do what we can do at this point with our offensive players," he said. "They are good at particular things and not good at particular things. David is really talented and he's going to be a real icon in our profession, but he's not a magician."

Maryland at Michigan
Saturday, 9 am PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Michigan -30.5 O/U 57
CRIS Current: Michigan -31 O/U 54
Recommendation: First Half Over

Another week, another first half over for the Michigan Wolverines as they jumped out to a 27-10 lead over Michigan State. On the season, Michigan has outscored its opponents 229-38 in the first half and a more modest 144-55 in the second half. Below are the halftime scores of UM's eight games.

Michigan's First Half Scores
vs. Hawaii - 35-0
vs. UCF - 34-7
vs. Colorado - 24-21
vs. Penn State - 28-0
vs. Wisconsin - 7-0
at Rutgers - 43-0
vs. Illinois - 31-0
at Michigan State - 27-10

Under the watch of Jim Harbaugh, the Wolverines have excelled at a lot of things this season, most notably beating up on the weak. Wisconsin, and its ninth-ranked defense, was the only team to put up any real type of resistance against this offense. This week sets up well for another lopsided halftime score with Maryland headed to the Big House. Since holding Purdue to 205 total yards, the Terps have Read more

College Football Gambling: LSU taking different offensive approach vs. Alabama

11.01.2016     09:34 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
LSU's offense has looked impressive following the departure of Les Miles and a more "open" attack under interim head coach Ed Orgeron. Over their last three games, the Tigers are averaging 41.6 ppg and a whooping 8.5 yards per play. But that was against Missouri, Southern Miss, and Ole Miss. Saturday will be the true test as Alabama obviously grades out as one of the best defensive units in college football. To say the Crimson Tide have the Tigers' offense figured out would be an understatement (see below year-by-year production). LSU is hinting that it will need to stretch the field in order to "loosen up" the Bama defense. Alabama has allowed 28 passes of 20+ yards this season which ranks 12th in the SEC.

LSU's offense vs. Alabama
2015: 16 points, 182 total yards
2014: 13 points, 259 total yards
2013: 17 points, 284 total yards
2012: 17 points, 435 total yards

“Obviously, Coach O has changed up a lot of things, and it’s really working for us,”

College Football Handicapping: Betting markets continue to hammer Louisville Cardinals

10.18.2016     06:24 AM     View Original Blog

Ever since beating Charlotte 70-14 in Week 1, Louisville has been one of the most popular teams in the betting markets. Just take a look at the opening and closing numbers of their last six games. On average, Louisville has been bet over 4 points per game. It reminds us a little of last year's Clemson team that burst on to the scene with a bunch of impressive early season wins and covers Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Washington State Cougars at Oregon State Beavers

Washington State at Oregon State
Saturday, 7:45 pm PT - ESPN2
CRIS Opener:
Washington State -15.5 O/U 65.5
CRIS Current: Washington State -13 O/U 57
Recommendation: Oregon State

My clients and I cashed in betting against Washington State as road chalk last week in a closer-than-expected non-covering win at Arizona State.  And there’s absolutely no reason to think that the Cougs are being priced appropriately as double-digit road favorites as they travel to Corvallis on Saturday night.

This is the wrong price range for Washington State in a very hostile road environment.  It’s also the wrong pointspread range for an Oregon State team that has been getting killed on the highway, but consistently playing competitive football at Reser Stadium.

There’s been one very consistent facet of Mike Leach coached teams, dating back to his tenure at Texas Tech – they have letdowns, not a coach who’s prone to guiding his team to extended winning streaks.  In his fifth season at Washington State, the Cougars current five game winning streak is the longest Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Cincinnati Bearcats at Temple Owls

Cincinnati at Temple
Saturday, 12:30 pm PT - CBSC
CRIS Opener:
Temple -8 O/U 53.5
CRIS Current: Temple -7 O/U 53.5
Recommendation: Over

Temple’s offense has come on strong in recent games which has played a pivotal role in its current 5-2 SU, 7-0 ATS streak. Quarterback Phillip Walker can still be prone to turnovers at times but he’s thrown 11 touchdowns to seven interceptions in Temple’s last nine games. Meanwhile, the ground attack, led by running backs Ryquell Armstead and Jahad Thomas, has been productive at 170 ypg and 4.5 ypc. Cincinnati’s defense has been a subpar unit for much of the campaign giving up 5.5 yards per play and they’ve yielded 40+ points to better offensive foes like South Florida and Houston as well as 504 total yards to Purdue. I expect Temple’s offense which has scored 27+ points in seven straight games to have another solid day on the ground and with play action pass against this suspect Cinci defense.

Cincinnati’s offense seemed to get a boost of energy and momentum last week when former starter Gunner Kiel got his first Read more
