College Football Gambling Preview: Oregon Ducks at Nebraska Cornhuskers

Oregon at Nebraska
Saturday, 12:30 am PT - ABC
CRIS Opener:
Nebraska -3 O/U 70.5
CRIS Current: Nebraska -3 O/U 74.5
Recommendation: Oregon

If you look at the final scores of Nebraska’s first two games, this pointspread might make sense.  After all, the Huskers are coming off back-to-back dominating wins and covers against Fresno and Wyoming over the last two weeks, covering as a home favorite for the first times since a Week 2 win over South Alabama last year.

There’s only one problem with that assumption.  Nebraska didn’t dominate either game.  Both blowouts were completely fraudulent.  And Oregon’s team speed will be highly problematic for a Cornhuskers defense that hasn’t seen playmakers like these in year – they haven’t faced Ohio State or Michigan in Big Ten play in either of the past two seasons.

In Week 1, Nebraska entered the fourth quarter against Freson clinging to a 21-10 lead, but a pair of Bulldogs interceptions set up the Huskers down the stretch as they punched in three unanswered touchdowns in the Read more

Oregon at Nebraska
Saturday, 12:30 am PT - ABC
CRIS Opener:
Nebraska -3 O/U 70.5
CRIS Current: Nebraska -3 O/U 74
Recommendation: Oregon

From 2010 to 2014, Oregon closed as an underdog only once (53-30 win at 7th-ranked Stanford as +2.5 dogs in 2011). They were the clear class of the PAC-12 and garnered a ton of respect in the betting markets. Last season, however, was the first time since 2007 the Ducks failed to win 10 games. And what we remember last was an embarrassing bowl game loss to TCU in which Oregon blew a 31-0 halftime lead. Heading into this season, the Ducks weren't the first choice to win the PAC-12; in fact, they were priced third behind both Stanford and Washington. And through the first two weeks of the season, the downgrading looks to be correct with Oregon posting lackluster wins and pointspread failures against weaker foes Virginia and UC Davis.

Nebraska has that "well oiled machine" look after blowout wins and easy pointspread covers over Wyoming and Fresno State. The two wins have helped the Cornhuskers make a sizeable power rating jump. Last season, Nebraska Read more

College Football Betting Preview: East Carolina Pirates at South Carolina Gamecocks

East Carolina at South Carolina
Saturday, 1 pm PT - SEC Network
CRIS Opener:
South Carolina -5.5 O/U 50
CRIS Current: South Carolina -3 O/U 50
Recommendation: East Carolina

I have no qualms recommending a bet against South Carolina laying points, especially facing a solid East Carolina team that has notched back-to-back wins to open the season including last week against NC State. It was a quality win considering the fact ECU brought in a new head coach in Scottie Montgomery combined with new coordinators and systems on both sides of the football. There has been a ton of rebuilding due to graduation losses along the offensive line and in various levels of their defense which led me to believe it could take some time for this team to gel. The Pirates however knocked off the Wolfpack 33-30 last week with Minnesota transfer QB Philip Nelson showing he has a solid grasp of this offense. Nelson is completing 81.3% of his passes through two games for 695 yards with 6 TDs and just 1 INT.

South Carolina has played two mediocre offensive teams to begin the season in SEC foes Vanderbilt and Read more

College Football Handicapping: Notre Dame secondary is now ultra-thin

09.14.2016     09:51 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Keep an eye on Notre Dame's secondary with a handful of key starters injured or suspended. The Irish allowed 280 yards on 10.4 yards per attempt in Week 1's 50-47 loss to Texas. The schedule, though, looks pretty quarterback friendly moving forward. Their next two opponents, Michigan State and Duke, are breaking in new signal callers. The same holds true for NC State, Stanford, Virginia Tech, and USC. There's also not much to worry about with back-to-back games against Navy and Army in November. The only experienced and established passing quarterback Notre Dame will face will be Miami's Brad Kaaya. A little easier than last season after facing the likes of Clemson's Deshaun Watson, USC's Cody Kessler, Stanford's Kevin Hogan, and Ohio State's J.T. Barrett.

College Football Gambling: Alabama takes steps to stop up-tempo offenses

09.14.2016     09:32 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
If there's been one knock against the Alabama Crimson Tide in recent years it's their "inability" to stop high powered up-tempo offenses; particularly against this week's opponent, Ole Miss, who has won the last two meetings. Looking over the last three seasons, the Crimson Tide is 7-5 SU and 5-7 ATS against teams that are noted for using an up-tempo/spread system.

2013 (2-2 SU, 1-3 ATS)
vs. Oklahoma - 45-31 SU/ATS loss
at Auburn - 34-28 SU/ATS loss
vs. Ole Miss - 25-0 SU Win/ATS win
at Texas A&M - 49-42 SU win/ATS loss

2014 (2-2 SU, 2-2 ATS)
vs. Ohio State - 42-35 SU/ATS loss
vs. Auburn - 54-44 SU/ATS win
vs. Texas A&M - 59-0 SU/ATS win
at Ole Miss - 23-17 SU/ATS loss

2015 (3-1 SU, 2-2 ATS)
vs. Clemson - 45-40 SU win/ATS loss
at Auburn - 29-13 SU/ATS win
at Texas A&M - 41-23 SU/ATS win
vs. Ole Miss - 43-37 SU/ATS loss

But according to Ole Miss, Bama is already starting to morph its stop unit Read more

College Football Handicapping: Penn State still trying to figure out who it wants to be

09.14.2016     09:12 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Interesting quotes coming out of State College in regards to Penn State's offense. Head coach James Franklin probably likes concept of playing "up-tempo" but there are already signs he's not 100 percent on board. Franklin stated that there are certain offensive plays that he will need to "sign off on." This despite the fact that he went out and hired a highly regarded FCS offensive coordinator noted for playing at a fast clip.

"Tempo is based on what we're anticipating from the defense, what we've seen on film, that we can get up and run our tempo where we just get up and snap the ball," he said. "We have the check-with-me plays. So a lot of it has to deal with, based on our game plan and what we've seen on film, do we feel like we have plays that we can call and get up and run in a quick tempo?"

Franklin also said that the team's tempo will be based on the opponent.

"So we're going to have some weeks where we go really, really

College Football Betting Preview: Pittsburgh Panthers at Oklahoma State Cowboys

Pittsburgh at Oklahoma State
Saturday, 12:30 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Oklahoma State -6.5 O/U 61.5
CRIS Current: Oklahoma State -6 O/U 59
Recommendation: Oklahoma State

Opposite game ending reactions for these teams last week as Pitt was in jubilant mood after defeating Penn State while Oklahoma State was in complete disbelief as a 27-24 victory celebration turned into an unbelievable 30-27 loss. Heading into this contest the most important question is which team will able to erase Saturday’s results and fully focus on their weekly preparation.

Pittsburgh placed extreme emphasis on last week’s game as head coach Pat Narduzzi drilled into his coaching staff and team that they were going to treat the Penn State game as a rivalry. The Panthers came out of the chute fired up and they were up 28-7 just over three minutes into the second quarter. From there, Penn State outscored Pitt 32-14 the rest of the way and had the ball in field goal range with a chance to tie but an interception sealed the deal.

Offensive balance has been problematic for the Panthers who have Read more
