College Football Betting Preview: Kansas State Wildcats at TCU Horned Frogs

Submitted by ICC blog entry.
Kansas State at TCU
Saturday, 4:30 pm PT - FOX
CRIS Opener: TCU
-6 O/U 60.5
CRIS Current: TCU -6 O/U 57.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: TCU -5
Ian Cameron's Recommendation: Kansas State

Kansas State and TCU square off in a pivotal battle of 7-1 teams looking to not only keep pace for the Big XII crown but also stay in the hunt in the hotly contested four-team playoffs.

Kansas State has gotten progressively better this season with current streaks of 5-1 SU and 6-0 ATS. Since losing at home to Auburn, K-State has beaten UTEP, Texas Tech, Texas, and Oklahoma State by a combined margin of 174-55. They also took down Oklahoma, 31-30, as TD+ road underdogs.

Statistically, KSU has the best defense in the Big XII: 18.6 ppg (12th nationally), 321 ypg (16th) and 4.9 ypp allowed. It’s a great matchup against a TCU offense that has been executing like a well-oiled machine for much of the Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Georgia State Panthers at Troy Trojans

11.06.2014     07:20 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Georgia State at Troy
Saturday, Noon PT
CRIS Opener:
Troy -7 O/U 63.5
CRIS Current: Troy -7 O/U 65
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Troy -7
Drew Martin's Recommendation: Over

The Troy Trojans will play host to the Georgia State Panthers in a battle between Sun Belt Conference bottom dwellers. The Panthers will be seeking their first ever win in conference competition while the Trojans look for their second win of the season. Both teams have had a tough year despite decent offensive production.

The Panthers are coming off of their worst offensive performance of the year with 62 total yards and 22 minutes of possession. But a huge asterisk can be placed next to that effort as the weather at Appalachian State was brutal (wind and snow) leaving little to no chance for a dome team to have success.  Georgia State’s offense is based on finesse and will run at a much faster tempo under Read more

Ohio State at Michigan State
Saturday, 5 pm PT - ABC
CRIS Opener:
Michigan State -2 O/U 63.5
CRIS Current: Michigan State -3.5 O/U 57.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Michigan State -1
Rob Veno's Recommendation: Michigan State

Huge implications attached to this game with the most recent Playoff Committee top 25 poll ranking Michigan State at #8 and Ohio State #14. It essentially makes this an elimination game. Winner here also has the inside track on representing the Big Ten Eastern Division in the conference championship game. Each side enters on a six game straight-up win streak (OSU 5-1 ATS, MSU 4-2 ATS) and playing their best football of the season.

It seems as if Ohio State’s J.T. Barrett has made injured starter Braxton Miller’s name basically disappear from the minds of college football fans and media across the country. It’s true that unlike last season Read more

Sportsmemo Handicapper Rob Veno has been creating his own Power Ratings for nearly two decades. His numbers are very well respected and an excellent tool for discovering value. Rob’s power ratings are a baseline and do not include key injuries or situations but they also don't overreact as much as the betting markets do week to week. Below is a chart of CRIS's current lines and Rob's College Football Power Ratings for Week 11.

College Football Betting Preview: Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Arizona State Sun Devils

Notre Dame at Arizona State
Saturday, 12:30 pm PT - ABC
CRIS Opener:
Arizona State -2 O/U 59.5
CRIS Current: Arizona State -2.5 O/U 60
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Arizona State -2
OTTO Sports’ Recommendation: Over

Good non-conference matchup with Arizona State playing host to Notre Dame on Saturday. Last year's meeting saw the Irish pull out of 37-34 win in Dallas. There were 85 pass attempts and 45 first downs in that contest and I expect another up-and-down affair this weekend.

Arizona State's defense has had an easy time of it the last three game with Stanford, Washington (without Cyler Miles), and Utah. Go back to games against more capable offenses and we see that the Sun Devils allowed big yards to Colorado, UCLA, and USC. Those three games featured an average of over 74 points per game.

Notre Dame meanwhile has had a favorable schedule when it comes to opposing Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Oregon Ducks at Utah Utes

11.05.2014     07:25 AM     Andrew Lange     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Andrew Lange blog entry.
Oregon at Utah
Saturday, 7 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Oregon -9.5 O/U 62.5
CRIS Current: Oregon -8 O/U 59
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Oregon -10.5
Andrew Lange's Recommendation: Oregon

The Utah Utes have turned into my nemesis this college football season with an uncanny ability to get destroyed in the box score and yet continue to win and/or cover pointspreads. Last week was another prime example as Arizona State outgained the Utah 444-241 but a few timely stops, penalties, and turnovers allowed the underdog Utes to cash yet another ticket. It's no secret that Utah does a lot of the "little things" extremely well. And said "little things" do impact pointspreads. But when your yards per play differential in conference play is -1.07 and you've been outgained by nearly 90 ypg your last six games the margin for error remains extremely small.

Oregon meanwhile has turned things Read more

College Football Gambling: Indiana's quarterback situation getting worse

College Football Betting: Oregon quietly covering pointspreads again

11.04.2014     07:02 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Following what was called a "wake up call loss" to Arizona, Oregon has not only been winning games but covering pointspreads as well. But with that comes inflation. In mid-October, the Ducks were -1.5 at UCLA. This week, they are as high as -10 at Utah.

“Unfortunately, sometimes it’s adversity in the form of a loss that wakes everybody up,” Helfrich said. “You don’t want to lose, but how our guys responded to that and how they came together is very encouraging. And since then we’ve gotten better every week, we’ve competed better every week, we’ve been more physical. We want to continue to do that. You’re always walking that fine line of staying healthy, but hitting, tackling, competing and playing with that edge.”
