Sports Betting Update: Euro sportsbooks likely suitors for CG Technology

04.04.2017     06:25 AM     Printer Friendly

Good article on the demise and potential future of CG Technology. Rumblings that Paddy Power-BetFair or Ladbrokes may be interested in taking over. Alarming that CG Technology was one of the few Las Vegas sportbooks to consistently take larger bets yet its hold was far less than other competitors.

Roger Goodell slowly warming to idea of the NFL in Las Vegas

03.29.2017     08:51 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Following the announcement that the Oakland Raiders will (eventually) move to Las Vegas, Roger Goodell offered his own "hot take." Goodell made it abundantly clear that he does not like gambling but seemed to acknowledge that the practice isn't as sinful as once thought. Though we found it interesting that he claimed Las Vegas was "different" from say, 10-20 years ago. Roger, we think you're getting your eras confused. What you meant to say was Las Vegas was no longer like this. Later, Goodell also mentioned that there was probably no need for sportsbooks to keep Las Vegas Raiders games off the board.

Owners vote in favor of Oakland to Las Vegas move

03.27.2017     12:08 PM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
It's official. The Oakland Raiders announced they will relocate the team to Las Vegas. But don't get too excited. A stadium needs to be built and the team stated that they will remain in Oakland through at least the 2018 season.

"The Raiders were born in Oakland and Oakland will always be part of our DNA. We know that some fans will be disappointed and even angry, but we hope that they do not direct that frustration to the players, coaches and staff. We plan to play at the Coliseum in 2017 and 2018, and hope to stay there as the Oakland Raiders until the new stadium opens. We would love nothing more than to bring a championship back to the Bay Area."

NCAA Tournament Betting News: Sportsbook has huge liability with Michigan Wolverines

03.22.2017     11:58 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
There's no two better ways for a sportsbook to publicize itself than to brag about taking big bets and suffering big losses. Here we have the former as Las Vegas' Golden Nugget is on the hook for $1 million should the Michigan Wolverines win the NCAA National Championship.

College Basketball Handicapper Free Betting Pick: St. Mary's Gaels vs. Gonzaga Bulldogs

St. Mary's vs. Gonzaga -5 O/U 133.5
Recommendation: Gonzaga

Gonzaga and St. Mary's hook up tonight for the West Coast Conference Championship at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. Both teams had an easy go of it en route to the finals, particularly the Gaels who won by margins of 23 and 31. Tonight serves as a far tougher task however as Gonzaga's size, length, and athleticism gave St. Mary's a ton of problems in the two regular season meetings. The Zags won and covered both games by simply owning the paint. Combined, Gonzaga shot 49-of-77, 64% from 2-point range compared to 37-of-86, 43% for St. Mary's. The Zags also unsurprisingly shot 14 more free throws. And the one advantage St. Mary's was supposed to have -- 3-point shooting -- never panned out as Gonzaga shot a combined 10-of-21, 48% while St. Mary's hit on only 10-of-31, 32%. All told, Gonzaga scored 153 points on 124 possessions which comes out to 1.23 points per possession; a mark that is actually higher than their season average in WCC play. And while it looks impressive that the Gaels have routinely held teams in the 50's, note that Gonzaga's stop unit is over 5 ppg Read more

College Basketball Handicapping: Power conference tournament odds

03.06.2017     09:22 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Power conference tournaments get underway this week. Let’s take a quick look at each league’s future odds.

ACC - This year's tourney takes place at Brooklyn's Barclays Center. All 13 teams are in the first with the top four seeds (North Carolina, Florida State, Notre Dame, and Louisville) receiving byes to the quarterfinals. Top seed UNC is the betting favorite at +145 followed by Louisville (+270) and fifth seed Duke (+280).

PAC-12 - The league returns to Las Vegas but will play in the new T-Mobile Arena. Oregon is the top seed and the betting favorite at +125 followed by third seed UCLA (+140) and second seed Arizona (+210). The last three title games have featured a 1 vs. 2 matchup.

Big Ten - Oddly, the conference tournament will be held at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. Top seed Purdue is the favorite at +145 followed by Wisconsin at +190. Perhaps a good league to take a shot with an underdog as half the league finished 12-6, 11-7 or 10-8.

Big XII - Per usual, the tournament will be held at the Sprint Center in Kansas City and Kansas is the top seed and favorite at even money. Third seed Baylor appears to have Read more

College Basketball Handicapping: Bettors gear up for mid-major conference tournaments Part II

03.02.2017     09:21 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
More mid-major conferences get their respective tournament underway today and tomorrow. Let's take a look at some of their futures odds courtesy of 5Dimes.

Horizon - For the second straight year, the tournament will be held at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. Note that the format has changed as the top two seeds no longer get the "double bye" into the semifinals. Valparaiso (+160) and Oakland (+170) are the top seeds and betting favorites. Last year's winner, Green Bay, is +500.

Colonial - Same format as Horizon with 7/10 and 8/9 play-in games and byes for seeds 1-6. UNC-Wilmington is the top seed and favorite at +160 followed by Charleston at +175. The entire tournament takes place in Charleston.

West Coast - No surprise that Gonzaga in the heavy favorite at -400. Second seed St. Mary's is +340. The entire tournament will be played as Las Vegas' Orleans Arena. It's been held there every year since 2009.

MAAC - Monmouth, who hasn't lost a game since Jan. 2, is the top seed and favorite at +135. Siena (+340), St. Peter's (+365) and Iona (+440) are the main contenders. Tournament takes place in Albany at Siena's home gym. Read more
