World Cup Betting News: Klinsmann realistic on USMNT's chances

06.11.2014     08:19 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
For all you bettors holding USMNT futures tickets to win the World Cup if you haven't already told yourself you have absolutely no chance, let Jurgen Klinsmann help you out.

"You have to be realistic. Every year we are getting stronger," said Klinsmann. "We don't look at ourselves as underdogs. We are not. We are going to take the game to Ghana and they will take it to us and it will be an exciting game and then we go from there.

"For us now talking about winning a World Cup, it is just not realistic. If it is American or not, you can correct me," he said, reiterating comments he made this past December.

What is funny is that bettors have still been chucking money down on the USMNT. At one point, their odds to win the whole damn thing at Las Vegas' MGM were 10-1! Offshore at more serious sportsbooks like Pinnacle there are far more "real" lines with the USMNT currently Read more

Bettor puts big dollars on whether Scotland will remain a part of UK

06.10.2014     12:22 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
While places like Las Vegas are still working to make gambling on political elections a reality, it is thriving in placed like the United Kingdom. A man reportedly bet $671K at a William Hill sportsbook on whether or not Scotland will remain a part of the UK.

While many non-gamblers may think risking £400,000 to win £100,000 sounds crazy, Sharpe said it should be seen as an investment opportunity.

If you're convinced Scotland will stay in the United Kingdom, then you're "merely making an investment," he said, pointing out that the high roller stands to make a 25% return if his bet is accurate, since he'll rake in £500,000.

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wise Guy Report: NFC Season Over/Under Win "morphers"

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
I’ve been waiting patiently for the NFL Season Wins market to mature, but that doesn’t happen quickly here in June.  Most of the notable offshores have not posted Over/Under win totals yet, leaving Vegas as the only active market right now. As a result, all the numbers used in this article are from right here in Sin City.

Of the 32 NFL teams, only 11 have Over/Under win totals that are different from their final record last year by two games or more.  In other words, the markets are telling us to expect ‘more of the same’ from 21 of the 32 teams in the league.

In my Vegas Wiseguy Report article over the next two weeks, I’m going to focus on those eleven teams that are expected to morph positively or negatively from last year.  The goal of this discussion is to focus on why these particular teams are expected to improve or decline significantly compared to last year.  I’ll do that by looking at how the broader market conditions affect the numbers.  What do the markets fixate upon?  What do they largely ignore?  Read on to find out.

This week’s focus will be on the seven NFC Read more

Gambling Update: Dana White reportedly crushed The Palms Casino again

06.03.2014     02:12 PM     Printer Friendly
UPDATE

Meathead and alleged savvy gambler Dana White is back in the news. In 2012, White had his credit line at The Palms cut in half. The casino is apparent back to placing limits on White after he recently won $2 million over three-month span. He was later quoted as saying Caesars is the only place left in Las Vegas that won't "mess around with limits."

Former bookmaker says legalized sports betting any easy choice

06.02.2014     12:16 PM     Printer Friendly
Former bookmaker Marisa Lankester gives her thoughts and opinions on legalized sports betting in the United States.

Labeling gambling as legal or illegal will also have little effect on game-fixing or mob involvement, two other concerns voiced by all sports organizations. Bookmakers generally want nothing to do with game-fixing because it’s bad for business. Games are swiftly taken “off the boards” if a game is suspect, and Las Vegas is usually the first to report irregularities. It would be harder, not easier, to “fix” a game if gambling was legalized.

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Last week, I wrote that “the NFL offseason, at least for sports bettors, is essentially over.  Numbers are up, and they’re moving!”

“My first step in assessing the upcoming NFL season begins with a thorough look back at last year.  Every team’s power rating is set, in large part, based on where they finished the previous campaign.  Obviously, adjustments are made for injuries, luck, offseason improvements or declines, coaching changes and the like, but those base power rating numbers factor in what happened in 2013 very heavily.”

Last week, I focused on the 16 teams from the AFC.  In this week’s Vegas Wiseguy Report, I’ll pass along a tidbit or two from each of the 16 NFC teams in regards to last year.  My focus is on things that are NOT likely to repeat the same way in 2014.  And this week, I’ll do my absolute best to avoid egregious errors like my ‘San Diego didn’t make the 2013 playoffs’ Read more

Group of bros cash in on UConn's National Championship

05.29.2014     08:34 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Cool story on 12 UConn fans who won $60K on a futures bet at Las Vegas' Hard Rock Casino. The best part was they actually shopped around. Las Vegas sportsbooks have notoriously poor futures odds and after seeing 25-1 at Caesars they found 50-1 at the Hard Rock.

“The plan was if we won, we’d come back to Vegas to pick up the money and have a ridiculous Memorial Day weekend,” said Harrison Fuchs, the de facto leader of the big winners. “We all thought it was a long shot, but here we are.”

The cure for low voter turnout is of course gambling

05.27.2014     07:38 AM     Printer Friendly
UPDATE

Jimmy Vaccaro says that the cure for low voter turnout is to allow people to gamble on the outcome.

"Let me tell you something. If you could bet on the election, you're gonna vote," Vaccaro said.

"Why not? It's the first time you can actually have a say in the outcome of your money," he said.

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The LVH Superbook posted their NFL Season Win totals last weekend.  Cantor sportsbooks (CG Technology) have had season win totals posted for months.  Many other books both here in Vegas and offshore have posted season win totals, Week 1 pointspreads and Game of the Year pointspreads.  Most books that haven’t posted NFL numbers yet plan to do so in the near future.  The NFL offseason, at least for sports bettors, is essentially over.  Numbers are up, and they’re moving!
