NFL Handicapping: Tomlin says Polamalu and Harrison will play vs. Eagles

Philadelphia at Pittsburgh -3 O/U 43.5

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mile Tomlin said that both Troy Polamalu and James Harrison are expected to play Sunday against the Eagles.

"Based on what I am looking at on how we worked yesterday, I think that is a safe assessment (that they will play)," Tomlin said Tuesday, according to the team's website. "We will watch these guys as we proceed throughout the week. All guys have performed well and were able to get through practice and we're optimistic that they're going to be full participants."

NFL Gambling Notes: Lack of continuity plagues Oakland Raiders

Pittsburgh -3.5 at Oakland O/U 45.5

We swear the AP wrote this article three years ago. It goes like this: Oakland coordinator (insert name) preaches patience due to new system. Over the last three years, Oakland has had three different head coaches, offensive coordinators, and defensive coordinators.

“Let’s keep things in perspective for a second here,” Knapp said. “We’ve played two games in the regular season on offense. We’ve had two different centers and a right tackle who played half a game last week. We need some patience. You can’t develop a scheme in two weeks in a regular season.”

“It will take a little while. It will take a little while,” Knapp said. “I don’t know Read more

NFL Betting Notes: Pittsburgh Steelers look to avenge playoff loss to Denver

Pittsburgh at Denver -2 O/U 44.5

The Steelers will try to avenge last year's playoff loss to Denver. Defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau admitted that his game plan in that contest wasn't particularly effective, in particular the way they defending the infamous overtime play in which Tim Tebow connected with Demaryius Thomas for an 80-yard touchdown.

“Let me tell you something.  Over the years I’ve made a lot of bad calls and I’m man enough to step up and say it when a play ends the game, ends your season, that can’t be a very good call.”

NFL Preseason Gambling: Buffalo starters eager to (finally) play well vs. Pittsburgh

08.24.2012     12:43 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Pittsburgh -2.5 Buffalo O/U 40.5

Buffalo hasn't looked all that sharp this preseason (0-2 SU, 1-1 ATS) and hopes to reverse that trend against Pittsburgh on Saturday.

We need to get better. We want to see improvement,” said Gailey, who traditionally rests his starters in the fourth preseason game. “I don’t know what that will show. It should show more production, but we have to get better.”

“This is the last big one for the starters to go out there and get everything fine-tuned before it counts,” Fitzpatrick said. “This one, I would say, is important to us to get out there and play well.”

NFL Preseason Betting Notes: Pittsburgh's Haley keeps offense vanilla

08.13.2012     07:49 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Looks like Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Todd Haley brought his conservative nature in the preseason to the Steel City. Haley played it close to the vest in Week 1 and said that he will stick to that philosophy until the regular season. The Steelers play host to Indianapolis this Sunday.

“Not a lot of new is going to be showing up,” Haley said Sunday. “Now, we’ve got to fine-tune, get good and figure out what we do real well.”

Pittsburgh at Philadelphia -1 O/U 35

Philadelphia's gameplan looks to be Michael Vick and the starters for the first quarter followed by Mike Kafka and the second unit. In the second half, expect to see rookie Nick Foles and Trent Edwards. Note that the Steelers will be testing out the waters under new offensive coordinator Todd Haley as well as starting two rookie offensive linemen. Reports indicate that backup Jerrod Johnson will get an extended look in the second half.

NFL Betting Notes: Pittsburgh, OC Haley giddy about no-huddle offense

08.02.2012     08:11 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The Pittsburgh Steelers claim they will be using plenty of no-huddle under first-year offensive coordinator Todd Haley. Because what would an NFL offseason be like without over half the league saying it is going to throw deep, play up-tempo, spread the field, and/or go no-huddle.

“He’s shown the propensity to do that at a high level,” said Haley. “This is new to him, so we’re still working together on it. Ideally, if you have a quarterback like Roethlisberger and what he’s done, when he’s in full control, that’s a good situation to be in because he’s right in the middle of it, seeing what’s going on. There’s always communication at least in my experiences because we can communicate until the (play) clock gets to 15 (seconds).

“I could tell through the spring that Ben’s got his arms around it and he likes it. You can see his eyes light up a little bit when we get in that mode. That’s the sign of a great quarterback. The ones that I’ve been around, they Read more

Sportsmemo Handicapper Teddy Covers' AFC North Gambling Preview

Baltimore Ravens
Starting point:
In 2011, the Ravens finished 12-4 SU, 8-7-1 ATS (for the third consecutive year) and 10-6 to the Over. In fact, the Ravens are the only team in the NFL to make the playoffs in each of the last four years, a beacon of stability in a tumultuous league. Not only that, Baltimore has managed to win at least one playoff game in each of those four seasons, and came within a missed Billy Cundiff field goal in the AFC Championship Game of potentially reaching the Super Bowl last season.

Baltimore faced one of the easiest schedules in the league last year, facing only two playoff teams from outside their division all season. The Ravens outgained their opponents by 0.6 yards per play and finished +2 in turnovers. The Ravens also had the #1 red zone defense in the NFL last year, allowing opponents to convert for touchdowns only 38% of the time.

2012 Issues: The single biggest issue for Baltimore in 2012 is how tough their schedule is; a dramatic change compared to last year. The Ravens also have their fourth new defensive coordinator in the last four years (Dean Pees); now that Chuck Pagano is the new Read more
