College Football Handicapping: Michigan State hopes to hold down Robinson again

Michigan State at Michigan -10 O/U 43

Michigan State heads into Saturday rivalry game against Michigan as a double-digit underdog. The Spartans have won and covered four straight in the series and have done a good job at keeping UM quarterback Denard Robinson in check. Last year, MSU held Robinson to 9-of-24 for 123 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. On the ground, Robinson carried the ball 18 times for a modest 42 yards. In 2010, Robinson threw for 215 yards and ran for 86 yards but the Spartans forced three interceptions.

College Football Betting: Miami's Morris practices but remains doubtful vs. Florida State

Florida State -21 at Miami (FL) O/U 57

Miami quarterback Stephen Morris (ankle) did practice yesterday but according to head coach Al Golden, he was very limited in term of mobility.

"He just threw stationary," Golden said. "It's not a situation where he can drop yet or even plant. Ryan [Williams] took all the snaps and Preston [Dewey] took some as well. We're moving forward with Ryan and we'll see if Stephen, in the last 72 hours, can do something."

Massive gambling debt, the Tennessee Vols, and of course a Wal-Mart

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
We don't even know where to begin with this one. For starters we're dealing with the State of Tennessee and a Wal-Mart – one of life's many lethal combinations. Next up we have the gambling aspect – a gentleman made a wager on the Tennessee Volunteers and of course lost. You know where this is going, right? So it turns out in order to pay back his gambling debt, which was an astronomically high $150, the only option he had was to five-finger-discount random items from Wal-Mart. And by random we mean a Blue-ray player, a vacuum and a pair of pajama pants because bookies need to sleep in comfort, ya know? Now we're just spitballin' here but if this guy was smart, and we assume he is, why not pay off the gambling debt, court costs, and fine with a little +900 moneyline action on the Vols when they play host to Alabama this weekend?

College Football Gambling: Penn State's McGloin tells bettors to play OVER

Penn State at Iowa 3 O/U 42

Are you ready for Baylor-West Virginia Part II? According to Penn State quarterback Matt McGloin, it'll be taking place this Saturday in Iowa City.

"It will not be a low-scoring game," McGloin said Wednesday.

"We're confident in our offense and our ability to put up points, and Iowa has an experienced quarterback and should be able to put up some points. I don't think it will be low-scoring, because everybody is juiced up and ready to go."

College Football Betting Preview: Virginia Tech Hokies at Clemson Tigers

Rob Veno's Recommendation:
Over
Saturday, 9 am PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Clemson -9.5 O/U 61
CRIS Current: Clemson -8 O/U 62
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Clemson -9.5

I sense renewed problems for Virginia Tech in this matchup after going 0-2 SU/ATS and outscored by a combined total of 61-13 against Clemson last season. Tech’s shortcomings against Clemson last year were two-fold as they couldn’t run the football to keep the Tigers offense off the field (69 total rush attempts for 189 yards, 2.7 per carry) and they couldn’t protect quarterback Logan Thomas (allowed 6 sacks in 71 pass attempts, 1 every 11.8). With a far less experienced receiving crew combined with the inaccurate Thomas throwing the football (52.3% completions), Clemson should be able to focus on stopping the run and underneath passing game. The Hokies have seen a bunch of that recently and Read more

College Foobtall Betting: SEC News and Notes Week 7

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The SEC game of the year to date was no letdown, as LSU handed South Carolina its first loss of the year, 23-21. The game was not as close as the final score, with LSU dominating the line of scrimmage the entire game and outgaining the Gamecocks, 406-211. LSU basically gave South Carolina two touchdowns, one after a long interception return and their last one with two minutes left after LSU had taken a nine-point lead. LSU was also forced to attempt four field goals after long drives, making three. Both teams now have tough road games with LSU going to Texas A&M and South Carolina heading to the Swamp to face Florida.

Florida had a tough road win at Vanderbilt last week, getting the pointspread cover when quarterback Jeff Driskel broke a 70-yard touchdown run with 2:20 remaining. Vanderbilt put up 363 yards against the Florida defense, but could not stop the Gator running game, allowing 326 yards rushing on the night.

Texas A&M also had a road win, but its defensive effort was not up to SEC standards. The Aggies jumped out to a 34-7 lead in the second quarter, but allowed Louisiana Tech to come roaring back before holding on for a 59-57 win. A&M had Read more

College Football Handicapping: Winless Southern Miss favored over Marshall

10.17.2012     07:20 AM     Printer Friendly

Marshall at Southern Miss -2.5 O/U 66

Southern Miss has played a brutal schedule thus far including recent games against Western Kentucky, Louisville, Boise State and UCF (20-4 combined). According to Sagarin's ratings, the Golden Eagles have played the 13th toughest schedule in the country whereas Marshall has played the 83rd. Oddsmakers and the betting markets seem to think USM is due for a victory by pricing them as a short home favorite over the Thundering Herd. After rotating three different quarterbacks, head coach Ellis Johnson has committed to Anthony Alford. According to our ACCU-Stats, Saturday's matchup is fairly even.

College Football Betting: Kansas going with two quarterbacks vs. Oklahoma

10.17.2012     06:53 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Kansas at Oklahoma -35 O/U 57.5

When you've lost five straight, have the 97th ranked passing attack, and are a 35-point road underdog, there's no time like the present to get a little creative. Kansas head coach Charlie Weis says he has a few wrinkles for Saturday's game at Oklahoma, including playing two quarterbacks.

“I think that Michael deserves an opportunity to play, based off of his recent performance,” Weis said. “Both of the quarterbacks have been informed that they’re gonna play. They know what we have available to them.”

“I have a whole bunch of things in for this game,” Weis said. “We can’t just go line up and go vanilla and sit there and figure we’re gonna slug it out, and that’s gonna work out to our advantage.”
