NFL Gambling Preview: Cleveland Browns at Indianapolis Colts

Cleveland at Indianapolis
Erin Rynning's Recommendation:
Indianapolis
Sunday, 10 am PT - CBS
CRIS Opener:
Indianapolis -3 O/U 45
CRIS Current: Indianapolis -2 O/U 45.5
Rob Veno Power Rating: Indianapolis -0.5

It’s another week of NFL action and that means the Cleveland Browns are once again taking action at the betting windows.  For whatever reason – none that I can think of – the Browns have drawn sharp money in each of the last four weeks.  I disagree with that sentiment and still view the Browns as one of the worst teams in the NFL in most facets.  The Browns did show strong second half life in their win against the Bengals last week.  However, Cleveland was outgained by over 100 yards in the game, while +3 in the turnover department.  This was more the Bengals beating themselves.  Keep in mind the Browns broke an 11-game losing streak as last week was their Read more

NFL Betting Preview: Dallas Cowboys at Carolina Panthers

Dallas at Carolina
Teddy Covers' Recommendation:

Sunday, 10 am PT - FOX
CRIS Opener:
Dallas -2 O/U 44.5
CRIS Current: Dallas -2 O/U 45.5
Rob Veno's Power Ratings: Carolina -3

Since their blowout win over the Giants on the opening night of the season, the Cowboys are 1-3 SU, their lone victory coming in non-covering fashion at home against Tampa Bay.  Dallas’ weaknesses during this slump have been on full display.  DeMarcus Ware has six sacks, but the rest of the team has combined for only four – opposing QBs have time to throw without a strong Cowboys pass rush.  And DC Rob Ryan’s insistence on using aggressive blitzing tactics in third-and-long situations has burned them repeatedly; unable to get off the field on third downs.  With top draft choice CB Morris Claiborne questionable with an ankle injury, that may be a continuing problem again this week.

College Football Betting: Miami's Morris practices but remains doubtful vs. Florida State

Florida State -21 at Miami (FL) O/U 57

Miami quarterback Stephen Morris (ankle) did practice yesterday but according to head coach Al Golden, he was very limited in term of mobility.

"He just threw stationary," Golden said. "It's not a situation where he can drop yet or even plant. Ryan [Williams] took all the snaps and Preston [Dewey] took some as well. We're moving forward with Ryan and we'll see if Stephen, in the last 72 hours, can do something."

Pittsburgh -2.5 at Cincinnati O/U 45.5

Offensive line issues for the Pittsburgh Steelers heading into Sunday night's tilt against Cincinnati.

Right tackle Marcus Gilbert (ankle) has been ruled out and center Maurkice Pouncey (knee) is considered questionable, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin announced Tuesday. Rookie second-round draft pick Mike Adams will make the first start of his career while filling in for Gilbert, and Doug Legursky would start for Pouncey.

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
I think we know the Oakland Raiders aren’t great but they did play a solid football game and certainly good enough to beat Atlanta. The Raiders outgained the Falcons 474-286 which included 149-45 yard rushing 325-241 yard passing edges. Oakland also nearly doubled Atlanta in time of possession. What was the difference? Oakland failed to capitalize on Atlanta’s turnovers. Atlanta capitalized on Oakland’s turnovers including a huge 79-yard INT touchdown return for by Asante Samuel to give Atlanta a 20-13 – it came when Oakland was driving in Atlanta territory and looking to take the lead. The Falcons stand alone as the only undefeated team in the NFL at 6-0 but it’s becoming clear they have become an overvalued commodity in the betting markets. Atlanta won the game 23-20 but never sniffed a pointspread cover as 9.5-point home favorites. It’s a clear indicator there are no bargains to support the “dirty birds” these days.

Another example of statistical dominance not equaling a straight up win was with the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys played arguably their best game of the season and it still feel short against the Ravens. Dallas Read more

NFL Gambling News: Philadelphia Eagles fire defensive coordinator Castillo

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Philadelphia fired defensive coordinator Juan Castillo following Sunday's home loss to Detroit. Secondary coach Todd Bowles will take over. Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha called out Castillo for dialing up too many blitzes in the fourth quarter which allowed the Lions to quickly erase a 10-point deficit and send the game to overtime.

"I want to make it clear that I have nothing but the ultimate respect for Juan Castillo as a coach and as a person," Reid said in a statement released by the team. "He's one of the finest football coaches that I have ever worked with. He has served this organization extremely well for 18 years and letting him go was a difficult decision. I know he will continue to be a successful coach in this league and wish he and his family nothing but the best.

"We're six games into the season and average isn't good enough. I know the potential of our team and insist

If you live in Las Vegas and are currently looking for a job, South Point is looking to fill positions for its real-money online poker website. According to South Point, it is already prepared to go "live" but the launch date has been pushed back to later this year. Positions include marketing, customer service, compliance and IT. Salaries range from $25K to six figures.

"We feel we could launch today," Vaughan said. "But you’ve got to go through the independent testing labs, you have to satisfy the State Gaming Control Board and because we are the first, we’re going to be under the microscope. They’re going to prod us every which way, and that’s good. We don’t want to

Teddy Covers' Wiseguy Report: A look back at NFL Week 6 action

Submitted by Teddy Covers

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
This week, I focused on five NFL teams that can only be described as disappointments through the first six weeks of the season. Here are my notes from their respective performances.

Tampa Bay - This pass defense spent the first month of the season getting torched. Now that secondary gets even weaker without their top playmaker, Aqib Talib, suspended for the next four games after violating the league's drug policy. The run defense, however, was stellar, lots of penetration up front, holding the NFL's leading rusher coming in to eight yards on seven carries in the first half and 40 yards for the game. It’s certainly helped that they were facing a bottom tier QB, allowing their defensive focus to be on stopping the ground game.

At times, it seems as is Josh Freeman is a weaker QB now than he was two years ago, when he inspired his teammates with a series of impressive, gutty, fourth quarter comebacks. This was the first game where Freeman really connected with his big play wideouts Mike Williams and Vincent Jackson, throwing a trio of touchdown passes. Love Read more
