NBA Gambling News: Cleveland vows to shore up leaky defense

11.01.2017     09:57 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
A little early in the NBA season for a "team meeting", no? The Cleveland Cavaliers are 3-4 (1-6 ATS) and 28th in the league in defensive efficiency. They've allowed 115 ppg over their last five games; three of which came against New York, Brooklyn, and Chicago. After two off days, the Cavs (-10) play host to Indiana tonight. The total was bet down from 218.5 to 216.5.

“The slow start that we’ve had prompted us to just all get on the same page and kind of figure out what we need to do,” center Kevin Love said. “I feel like we can get in better shape, that’s going to help us on the defensive end. Communication, energy and just getting the new guys adjusted. So time will tell how it’s going to play out, but we have a lot of really good positive energy from today, so, it was a great practice.”

College Football Betting Preview: Texas Tech Red Raiders at Houston Cougars

09.21.2017     12:09 PM     ICC     Printer Friendly
Submitted by ICC

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Texas Tech at Houston
Saturday, 9 am PT - ESPN2
CRIS Opener: Houston -5.5 O/U 69
CRIS Current: Houston -6.5 O/U 71
Recommendation: Over

Texas Tech’s offense once again looks fully capable of scoring points in bunches despite losing quarterback and 1st round draft pick Patrick Mahomes. Texas Tech’s new starter, Nic Shimonek, is the latest in a long line of plug-and-play Air Raid system signal callers. Shimonek has absolutely flawless numbers through two games; 78% completions, 927 yards passing and a perfect 9-0 TD-to-INT ratio. He’s got a slew of skill position talent to work with; WR Keke Coutee has 17 catches for 285 yards and three scores while fellow receivers Dylan Cantrell and Cameron Batson each have 12 receptions. And running backs Desmon Nisby and Justin Stockton have combined for 196 yards and 2 TDs. I expect Tech to score its share of points but so should Houston against a Texas Tech defense that still refuses to put any stock into stopping the opposition. Case in point, last week, up 42-24 in the third quarter, the Red Raiders allowed Read more

Last night the Cleveland Cavaliers shipped Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, some dude you've never heard of, and Brooklyn's unprotected 2018 first-round selection. A lot of NBA people are excited. You know who's not excited? Oddsmakers. Check out this tweet from Jeff Sherman from the Westgate SuperBook...

NBA Handicapping: League schedule changes forces bettors to adjust

08.09.2017     07:52 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Depending on who you ask, changes to the NBA's league-wide schedule could be a good or bad thing for bettors. The "good" is that the league is trying to create more situations where teams are rested meaning less chance for those infuriating late afternoon scratches to key players. The "bad" is that there will be less opportunity to take advantage of wore down teams and players, especially on the second night of back-to-backs.

Eliminating stretches of four games in five days and 18 games in 30 days.

Reduction of five games in seven nights to just 40 instances across (1.3 per team), down from last year when it was on the schedule 90 times (three per team).

Reduction in number of back-to-backs to 14.9 per team, down from 16.3 per team. In all, 40 back-to-backs have been eliminated from last season.

Reduction of single-game road

NBA Gambling: Odds indicate Irving will stay in Cleveland, Melo headed to Houston

07.24.2017     09:41 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The NBA offseason is a total shit-show right now because Kyrie Irving wants out of Cleveland and Carmelo Anthony would rather play for Idaho State than the New York Knicks. Looking to capitalize on the chaos, BetOnline is offering odds on where both players will end up. Right now, Kyrie is even money to suit up for the Cavs and Houston is the chalk destination for Melo at -130.

NBA Handicapping: Betting markets give 76ers 75 percent chance to make playoffs

07.03.2017     08:24 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The NBA offseason has been nothing short of ridiculous -- and there's still plenty of moves yet to be made. The main storyline has been the lack of quality teams and players that are left in the Eastern Conference. It's gotten so bad that 5Dimes has a prop on whether or not the Philadelphia 76er will make the playoffs next year and you have to lay -300 on the "yes!" Philly hasn't made the playoffs since 2011-12, enduring four full seasons of the infamous "process." But with Cleveland and Boston the only sure-fire playoff teams, the remaining six playoffs spots are completely up for grabs. It's conceivable we could see a Philadelphia vs. New York 4 vs. 5 first round matchup!

Philadelphia 76ers Record, games out of the 8th seed
2016-17: 28-54, 13 games out
2015-16: 10-72, 34 games out
2014-15: 18-64, 20 games out
2013-14: 19-62, 19 games out
2012-13: 34-48, 4 games out
2011-12: 35-31, 8th seed
