Handicapper Fairway Jay cashes 20* College Football Game of the Year

11.08.2011     02:13 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
We cashed our 20* College Football Game of the Year Saturday in dominating fashion as Virginia (-2.5) ran and rolled over Maryland 31-13. The Terps were held scoreless in the second half, and regular Fairway Followers that read my rushing guidelines in college football know that teams that outrush their opponent by at least a 2-to-1 margin have now covered the pointspread at a 75% clip this season. Virginia dominated at the point of attack, rolling up 527 yards offense at 6.5 yards per play. Running back Perry Jones took the opening play from scrimmage and ran 47 yards for a touchdown to lead the rout as the Cavaliers outrushed the Terrapins 220-84. Maryland’s problems at the point of attack played out perfectly, and we noted additional situations and stats that pointed to a Virginia victory.

Below was my game analysis provided to clients that cashed with our 20* College Football Game of the Year winner. Thanks for the support and we look forward to more winning action in the closing months of the football season with plenty of top play Big Drive’s finding the Fairway and Green.

Saturday we turn our attention to the troubled Maryland Read more

NFL Handicapping: Arizona's Kolb may miss second straight game

11.08.2011     09:41 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Arizona at Philadelphia N/L

It doesn't look like Arizona quarterback Kevin Kolb (turf toe) will be ready to go for this weekend's game at Philadelphia. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt said yesterday that Kolb was day-to-day. Sports Options currently lists him as doubtful. John Skelton filled in for Kolb in last week's win over St. Louis. He finished 20-of-35 for 222 yards and a touchdown. The Rams held advantages in nearly every statistical category but Skelton hit Larry Fitzgerald for a touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter to tie the game 13-13. Patrick Peterson then returned a 99-yard punt for the game winner in overtime.

Week 9 NFL favorites went 7-7 SU and 6-8 against the spread. For the season, betting favorites are 61-64-5 ATS. Last season betting favorites went 123-128-7 ATS (48%). A few close wins or losses could have the overall records slightly different based on closing lines and sportsbook. Five division games in Week 9 and division underdogs went 3-2 SU and ATS. Home underdogs went 0-3 SU and ATS, and for the season home underdogs are 15-24 SU and 20-18-1 ATS. Scoring was up slightly from the previous two weeks, yet totals still went 5-9 O/U and are 65-63-2 YTD. There have been 5,795 Read more

What is a bettor to do? Ole Miss cans Nutt, Louisiana Tech now favored

11.07.2011     01:16 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Louisiana Tech -2.5 at Mississippi

Well this should be interesting for bettors. Ole Miss decided to part ways with Houston Nutt, though Nutt will finish out the season. The Rebels play host to Louisiana Tech this weekend and early bettors have been quick to back the Bulldogs who are now favored (opened +1) by -2.5 (-3ev at Grande). That is logical thinking – coach was fired, no shot at the postseason, everyone pack it in and wait until next year. Not so fast. When was the last time Louisiana Tech played a truly meaningful game? Saturday doesn't count but the following week surely does. Tech is 4-1 in WAC play and travels to first place Nevada (3-0). If Tech can beat the Wolf Pack and close out the season with a home win over New Mexico State, they would take home the WAC crown.

NCAAF Betting Notes: QB injuries keep Florida-South Carolina off the board

Florida at South Carolina N/L

News and notes on the South Carolina-Florida matchup. The Gamecocks (5-2 SEC) trail Georgia (5-1) by a half game but beat the Bulldogs earlier this season. This is the conference finale for both UF and SC while Georgia plays home games against Kentucky and Auburn. Last week, the Gators unleashed the Pistol Offense and got fairly positive results (thanks to Jeff Demps’ 158 yards on the ground). The move allowed John Brantley to work out of the shotgun which was ideal considering his bum ankle. Brantley left the game late with an arm injury but is probable for Saturday. SC went from having two quarterbacks to potentially none as Connor Shaw suffered a concussion in the loss to Arkansas and will be Read more

Handicapper Teddy Covers: Week 9 NFC Betting News and Notes

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Welcome to Teddy Covers’ unique look at the NFL. Teddy watches games all day on Sunday, typing furiously on his laptop while giving you the key info that the box scores and game recaps don’t necessarily have. This week: NFC Tidbits from Week 9.

Atlanta
Matt Ryan is finally learning what to do with a talented deep threat – just chuck it up there and let Julio Jones make a play on the football. Jones’ first quarter touchdown was a classic 'throw it towards the tall guy between three defenders’ play. Ryan let the rookie out of Alabama make an impressive catch that would make a guy like Larry Fitzgerald (who lives off those type of throws) proud. This was Jones coming out party, and it was truly impressive: five touches, 164 yards from scrimmage. It's hard to gauge how good this performance was, because Indy is positively inept these days, but make no mistake about it – Atlanta dominated that sorry team, looking every bit as good as they did last year when they had the best record in the NFC.

NCAA Basketball Free Pick: Eastern Kentucky Colonels at Mississippi State Bulldogs

Eastern Kentucky at Mississippi State
Recommendation: Under 63.5 1st half

Eastern Kentucky is known for two things: slow pace and three-point shooting. The Colonels ranked 327th in tempo the last two season and with three of their top four scorers gone, I project points will be hard to come by in the non-conference. Mississippi State returns only two starters but welcome in a few transfers and a highly regarded recruiting class. EKU runs a 1-3-1 defense in attempts to slow down the game and force opposing teams into outside shots. MSU isn't very patient and is prone to taking bad shots from the outside, even when they have a clear advantage on the front line. I'm looking to play the under in the first half as it will be a more controlled Read more

Denver Post columnist loses job after being linked to area sports betting operation

11.07.2011     06:29 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Denver Post beat writer Jim Armstrong was recently relieved of his duties after his name surfaced in an area sports betting operation bust. Armstrong, who had worked at The Post for 27 years, is unlikely to be prosecuted. The newspaper's editor claimed that readers deserve unbiased opinions from sources that don't have a stake in the outcome. Hopefully there won't be some sort of nationwide beat writer betting crackdown or else all we'll be left with is Bleacher Report.

"Readers have to believe and trust that all of us at The Denver Post cover events impartially and without a stake in the outcome," said Gregory L. Moore, editor of The Post. "We take this very seriously."
