NCAAF Betting Update: Iowa's Ferentz appears confident in no-huddle

10.04.2011     02:41 PM     Printer Friendly
UPDATE

Iowa at Penn State -4 O/U 44

Some telling quotes by Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz regarding his team’s no-huddle offense. No doubt the Hawkeyes have looked the part offensively since the switch but we're always skeptical of teams abruptly changing course midseason and sticking with it – especially when asked to go out on the road against a solid defense.

"That gives birth to a lot of things," Iowa offensive coordinator Ken O'Keefe said Thursday. "We didn't have much of a choice at that particular point in time. It all came together and we figured some stuff out."

"We took some time as a staff and just talked a lot of things out," coach Kirk Ferentz said. "I think we're Read more

Oddsmaker says bettors struck gold with big parlays last week

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Hilton oddsmaker Jay Kornegay says they were hit with countless five- and six-team parlays from last week's NFL action.

"It seemed like everyone had a five or six team parlay cash today," said Las Vegas Hilton executive director Jay Kornegay. "It was almost to the point that when someone came to the window cashing only a four-teamer, I was like, thank you for not having more teams tacked on."

"Our liability on the day wasn’t just from Sunday, "said Kornegay. "We had all kinds of carryover risk from the late college games on Saturday that everyone won with. Even the baseball games have been very profitable for the public as their teams (the favorites) have been covering on the run-line and the games have been going over the total.

"There are a lot of bettors who like to throw cross-sports into their parlays just because the games are on television," Kornegay continued. " So the late Sunday pro football games hurt us, but they had a lot of momentum built in from Read more

NCAAF Betting Notes: Ohio State hit with more suspensions

Ohio State at Nebraska -11 O/U 55

Ohio State heads to Nebraska this weekend as an 11-point underdog. The Buckeyes welcome back senior left guard Mike Adams but will still be missing a host of key players due to suspensions.

"Obviously, Luke was disappointed," Athletic Director Gene Smith said. "I tried to keep him informed throughout the process, the potential realities that we might be here. He's disappointed, but as you well know he's a fighter and, using his words, a grinder. At the end of the day he understands we have to move on."[END-QUOTE:]

College Football Handicapping: Rutgers' coaches familiar with Pitt personnel

Pittsburgh -6.5 at Rutgers O/U 53

During the offseason, Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano took advantage of Dave Wanntstedt's firing and picked up three former Pitt coaches including offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh's defense, player-wise, should be familiar with what the Scarlet Knights do on offense.

This game has seen significant line movement as Pitt opened as a 9-point favorite and was bet down to -6.5.

A little quarterback controversy brewing for Rutgers as both Chad Dodd and Gary Nova split reps with the first team on Tuesday.

Schiano has decided to make more changes to his Read more

Missouri -3.5 at Kansas State O/U 55.5

Despite posting wins over Miami (FL) and Baylor, Kansas State head coach Bill Snyder isn't surprised at all that his team is priced as an underdog for Saturday's game against Missouri.

“I told our coaches last night,” he said, “those people spend a lot of money and make a lot of money, and they don’t just do it off the cuff.

“They have ample information to make those decisions. So I told them I was quite certain that we would end up being the underdog in that ball game.”

NCAA Betting Trends: Northwestern in optimal spot as home underdog

10.04.2011     08:36 AM     Printer Friendly
Michigan -7.5 at Northwestern O/U 59

Some strong trends supporting the Northwestern Wildcats as they play the role of home underdog against Michigan. Since 2008, the Wildcats are 11-4 ATS as an underdog of +7 or more. Michigan meanwhile plays its first road game of the season – a role they've struggled with mightily over the last few seasons. Since 2008, the Wolverines are 3-12 ATS on the highway/neutral.

College Football ATS Notes: Utah goes with new quarterback against ASU

10.04.2011     07:26 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Arizona State -4 at Utah O/U 48

Utah will start junior college transfer Jon Gray at quarterback this weekend against Arizona State. Gray replaces Jordan Wynn who injured his non-throwing shoulder in last week's loss to Washington. Gray finished the game 10-of-16 for 156 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT.

Wynn hardly set the world afire with his play – we still feel that he was still damaged goods after off-season surgery. Gray is said to be a bit more of a runner and suited for a shortgun/spread type offense. If he can avoid turnovers against Arizona State's risk-taking defense, the Utes should be able to move the football.

NCAAF Betting Notes: Two QB system sparks offensive turnaround for Texas

Oklahoma -10 vs. Texas O/U 56.5

Since the benching of quarterback Garrett Gilbert, Texas' offense has gained a ton of momentum as they into Saturday's showdown against Oklahoma. The Longhorns have been working the two-quarterback system to perfection with Case McCoy and David Ash. Since taking over for Gilbert in the second quarter against BYU, the duo has combined to go 38-of-53, for 546 yards, 4 TDs, and 0 INTs. And those numbers came against fairly decent competition (BYU, UCLA, and Iowa State). Overall, UT's offense is averaging over 200 ypg on the ground and through the air. Texas is also +6 in turnover margin after a -12 mark in 2010.

Trying to play it cool or genuinely oblivious to what surrounds them, a handful of Oklahoma players weren't even aware that Gilbert was no longer playing and had Read more

A lot of movement on the college football board today as we take a look at what the betting markets are up to.

Western Kentucky at Middle Tennessee State
CRIS Opener: MTSU -8
CRIS Current: MTSU -10
Middle got a monster scare against Memphis on Saturday in a 38-31 win. The Blue Raiders needed a touchdown with 20 seconds left to secure the win. Western Kentucky was on the other side of a close one as Arkansas State netted the go-ahead touchdown with 55 seconds left in a 26-22 win. Regardless of the in-game matchups, Sun Belt double-digit favorites have been moneyburners the past two seasons which says Hilltoppers or pass.
