MLB Handicapper Free Play: Milwaukee Brewers at Cincinnati Reds

Milwaukee (Fiers) at Cincinnati (Lorenzen) -115 O/U 8
Recommendation: Over

My clients and I have cashed two straight games over the total involving the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers are red hot right now especially at the plate where they have cranked out 45 runs in their last 7 games (6.43 per game). They get to face Michael Lorenzen of the Cincinnati Reds for the second time this season after he allowed 3 runs on 8 hits in 5 innings back in April. Adam Lind, Ryan Braun and Aramis Ramirez all had good success against Lorenzen in the prior meeting and all are swinging hot bats at the moment so this could be a rough night for the rookie. Walks have been a problem with Lorenzen issuing 33 free passes in 61.1 innings this season. On the flip side, there isn’t much negative to say about Mike Fiers of the Brewers who has really learned how to pitch and command the strike zone. However, this is simply not a very good venue to pitch for Fiers considering his ground ball rate stands at a rather low 38.5% this season. Fiers was hit hard in his lone previous start against the Reds back in April when he allowed 8 runs on 6 hits in just 4 innings of work Read more

Marco Rubio about to get into bed with Sheldon Adelson

07.03.2015     09:23 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Marco Rubio, who is current +325 to win the 2016 Republican nomination, is at the forefront of the anti-online gambling crusade. Rumor has it old fart Sheldon Adelson is going to throw his support (and money) Rubio's way. Rubio claims his stance on online gambling has nothing to do with Adelson's agenda. Right, bro.

“People buy into my agenda. I don’t buy into theirs,” he said after a town hall in New Hampshire, according to the Washington Post. “When I run for office, I tell people where I stand. … My stands are not influenced by my contributors; I hope my stands influence my contributors.”

NFL Gambling: Westgate SuperContest announces changes for 2015

07.03.2015     09:12 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
The Westgate SuperBook announced some changes for the upcoming 2015 NFL SuperContest. One of which will be the top 50 entrants taking home cash.

"The SuperContest is more popular than ever and we expect another record turnout," Kornegay said. "It used to be that only those in Vegas and those really connected to the industry here knew about the contest and that you could enter from out of state. The more mainstream media like people on ESPN have talked about it and with more people learning about the contest through social media, that has led to these record fields. ... We don't know how big it can get."

MLB Handicapper Free Play: Houston Astros at Boston Red Sox

Houston (Straily) at Boston (Masterson) -125 O/U 9
Recommendation: Over

I've watched fringe right-handed starter Dan Straily throughout his career. He was able to navigate his way through his first two years in Oakland but the league eventually figured him out as the A's let him go and the Cubs did the same. He's spent most of the past two seasons pitching admirably in Triple-A but make no mistake, he's a stop-gap arm that is likely to struggle if given an extended run with his current team the Houston Astros. Straily has always been an extreme flyball pitcher which makes tonight's start in Boston a scary proposition. Meanwhile Justin Masterson has been a mess for much of the season; so much so he was placed on the DL due to “arm fatigue.” He looked solid last time out, shutting down the Rays in Tampa (5 IP, 0 ER, 6 Ks) but his velocity was still well below past seasons. Masterson isn't a bad fit against this Houston lineup but I have my reservations about any sort of extended success. Pitching in Tampa against that light-hitting lineup is far different than warm temps in Fenway vs. a very capable Astros offense. In the end, I see two Read more
