NFL Handicapping: Kansas City Chiefs suffer from injury regression

09.15.2014     01:10 PM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Kansas City at Miami -4 O/U 41.5

A slew of injuries for the Kansas City Chiefs heading into Sunday's game at Miami. Running back Jamaal Charles (ankle) is out and cornerback Eric Berry (ankle) is questionable. Check out the numbers behind those currently sidelined below. Note that the Chiefs were the healthiest team in the league last year based on fewest starts lost to injury.

The loss of Charles and Berry means the hard-luck Chiefs (0-2) are down seven starters to injuries and suspensions. Those seven players have combined to start 355 games, play in 492 games and appear in nine Pro Bowls over 43-plus seasons in the NFL.

Mayweather no longer a big draw at betting window

09.15.2014     12:47 PM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Despite a lifetime undefeated mark of 47-0, Las Vegas bettors aren't really into betting Floyd Mayweather these days.

"We took a couple big bets on Floyd, but not as many as in the past," said John Avello, executive director of the Wynn Race and Sports Book. Rood said the MGM took a couple of six-figure bets on Mayweather, but not nearly as many as in previous fights.

"Floyd's not the most popular guy," Bogdanovich added. "His fights aren't really exciting. People are tired of it."

College Football Handicapping: Golden Nugget GOY vs. CRIS - Week 4

09.15.2014     12:20 PM     Printer Friendly
Week 4's breakdown of Golden Nugget's Game of the Year lines vs. CRIS's current numbers. It's a great tool to spot changes in perception from oddsmakers and the betting markets. The biggest discrepancy is the about-face bettors have taken on West Virginia. Originally a 17-point home underdog to OKlahoma, the Mountaineers opened +12.5 and were hammered to +8.5.

MLB Handicapper Free Play: Cincinnati Reds at Chicago Cubs

09.15.2014     10:02 AM     Andrew Lange     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Andrew Lange blog entry.
Cincinnati (Simon) -110 at Chicago Cubs (Wood) O/U 7
Recommendation: Over

Under weather conditions but two over pitchers on the hill with Cincinnati's Alfredo Simon taking on Chicago's Travis Wood. Simon has well surpassed his MLB-career high in innings pitched and as a result has struggled post-All Star break with an ERA just under 5.00. I see no reason not to continue a fade/over approach with him as the season winds down. Despite Simon’s high velocity, high K rate per 9 is below 6.0 which speaks to how fortunate he’s been this season (.263 BABIP). Even though Wood shut down Cincinnati a few starts ago this isn't a favorable matchup with Wood showing weaker splits vs. righties (.295/.464) and the Reds with a fair amount of potential from the right side. Wood has been living on the edge for most of the season with a super-high fly ball rate and pitch-to-contact style. Not a huge velocity guy but we've see Wood's fastball dip from 89-80 mph earlier in the season to the Read more

Gambling Update: Sweeping changes for UK punters

09.15.2014     07:36 AM     Printer Friendly

The other day we mentioned that Pinnacle was leaving the UK market due the new gambling laws set to start on October 1. And in reading to specs of the new laws, you could hardly blame them. For starters, sportsbooks must be licensed by the UK Gambling Commission -- something that wasn't required in the past. Next is the inevitable tax increase. Sportsbooks offering bets to gamblers inside in the UK will be subject to a 15% tax rate. Yikes. And you can bet that in order to offset said tax, transactions fees on withdrawals and/or deposits will increase.

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wiseguy Report: NFL Week 2 Betting Recap

09.15.2014     07:18 AM     Teddy Covers     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Teddy Covers blog entry.
My September NFL betting mantra is relatively simple.  It can be stated in one sentence: “Bet on good teams, and bet against bad teams.”   This strategy tends to be at its best  very early in the season, before the betting markets catch up to how good or how bad teams actually are compared to last year.

That strategy did not fare well this past weekend for two reasons – many of the good teams played poorly and a good handful of the bad teams stepped up.  Of the seven top teams in my power ratings, only two managed to cover the pointspread on Sunday (Cincinnati and New England).  Seattle, New Orleans and San Francisco all lost SU as favorites.  Denver won, by not my enough of a margin to cover the number.  And Green Bay pushed against the closing number but lost for anyone who bet the Packers throughout the course of the week.

On the other end of the spectrum, many of the bottom teams in my power ratings stepped up and played a good game.  The worst two teams in the league – Jacksonville and Oakland, according to my numbers – are both 0-2 SU, 0-2 ATS.  Other weak teams like the Read more

NFL Gambling Update: SuperContest consensus plays go 3-2 ATS in Week 2

09.15.2014     07:04 AM     Printer Friendly

A profitable week for the top five SuperContest consensus plays. Last year's first winning winning didn't come until Week 10! New England, San Diego, and Buffalo were easy winners while San Francisco and Detroit failed to cash. Also note that for the second straight week the least picked team covered. Oakland did so in Week 1 and yesterday St. Louis won outright at Tampa Bay.

Week-by-Week Results
Week 2: 3-2
Week 1: 2-3
Total: 5-5 ATS
