Georgia Tech vs. Boston College (Ireland)
Saturday, 4:30 am PT - ESPN2
CRIS Opener:
Georgia Tech -3 O/U 47
CRIS Current: Georgia Tech -3 O/U 44
Recommendation: Over

ACC opener for each of these teams right off the bat and only thing that could make the stakes higher is if it were a divisional game. The offseason brought change at each of the coordinator posts for Boston College and a renewed sense of urgency and determination for Georgia Tech. It is practically impossible to project and plus or minus for either team due to the international travel situation but the Yellow Jackets have indicated that they view this as the bowl game they did not play in last season. It’s doubtful though after reading player quotes that they’ll get so caught up in the trip that they’ll lose focus.

Boston College does get a huge advantage here by being able to prepare for the Georgia Tech option attack for the last six months. The Eagles did lose defensive coordinator Don Brown (Michigan DC) who last season directed them to national rankings of first in total Defense, second in rush Read more

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wiseguy Report: Reevaluating NFL teams during the preseason

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
If you read my NFL previews over the summer months (eight different Wiseguy Reports, one for each division), you know that I had some pretty strong opinions about a good handful of teams prior to the start of training camp and preseason.  In fact, 15 of the 32 NFL teams were on my initial short list for potential season win total bets, just shy of half the league.  These were all teams that, on paper, looked better or worse than initial oddsmaker projections.

After watching three weeks of NFL Preseason action, most of my initial opinions have been reinforced, and the betting markets have agreed with the vast majority of the win total wagers that I’ve made and those I’ve advised my clients to make.  That being said, I’ve changed my opinion on a handful of those 15 teams, in several cases rather strongly.  In this week’s wiseguy report, I’m going to flesh out what I’ve seen in the Washington Redskins, Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens that have me thinking very differently about those squads today compared to my opinion of them a month ago.

For the Redskins, the change in thought process is Read more

College Football Betting: UNLV names transfer Stanton starting quarterback

08.29.2016     09:06 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
UNLV named former Nebraska/JC transfer Johnny Stanton its Week 1 starting quarterback against FCS Jackson State. Head coach said that backup Kurt Palandech will also see time. Stanton is billed as a drop back passer whereas Palandech, who played in 11 games last season (49%, 9 TDs, 5 INTs), has more ability with his feet (293 yards rushing).

“It’s one of those deals that if you need to let it play itself out and wait, then you wait,” he said after the Aug. 19 scrimmage. “You don’t rush the decision, because the decision’s going to have a major impact on the season.

“I’ll be honest with you … both guys are going to play in Game 1. I think one guy’s going to be named the starter, and he’ll start to get the majority of the reps. But you’re going to see whoever the No. 2 is at some point in the first half.”

NFL Handicapping: Dallas confident in Prescott, reopen a pick 'em vs. Giants Week 1

08.29.2016     08:55 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
With Tony Romo on the shelf, rookie Dak Prescott finds himself Dallas' Week 1 starter. Prescott put together an impressive preseason (39-of-50, 78%, 5 TDs, 0 INT) and reportedly has earned the confidence of his teammates. Dallas is expected to pick up another signal caller with Jameill Showers the only other healthy quarterback on the current roster. No word on whether or not Prescott will play in Thursday's preseason finale vs. Houston. Romo's injury prompted most sportsbooks to take down all of Dallas' future odds. The Cowboys were -3 home favorites for Week 1's game vs. the New York Giants. A few sportsbooks reopened with a pick 'em.

NFL Gambling Alert: Broncos name Siemian Week 1 starter

08.29.2016     08:44 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Two first rounders --  one of which with 72 career starts under his belt -- were passed over by a seventh rounder who has never attempted a regular season pass. Denver announced that Trevor Siemian will start Week 1's home opener against Carolina. Siemian reportedly showed "growing confidence and presence in the huddle" during last week's preseason victory over Los Angeles. Mark Sanchez didn't see the field and is expected to be cut. Denver plans on picking up a cheaper QB on the waiver wire. Note that whoever takes the snaps for this squad will be behind a completely rebuilt and thus far suspect offensive line.

“We have a lot of work to do,” Broncos left tackle Russell Okung said. “We definitely have the talent up front. Guys have amazing skill sets. There’s time to bring it together.”
