The Houston Astros will send southpaw Dallas Keuchel and his 2.63 ERA to the hill this afternoon. There’s nothing fluky about Keuchel’s stellar ERA this season (2.95 xFIP). He also sports a 3.6:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio and an MLB-best 63.7% groundball rate among qualified starters. The major reason for his massive step forward has been the development of a plus slider which has been his go-to strikeout pitch. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay’s Eric Bedard was roughed up in his last start against Baltimore – a common theme and one that can be expected to continue this afternoon. Bedard obviously doesn’t have the stuff he once possessed with a fastball that barely tops out at 90 mph and a slider with minimal bite. He’s currently showing a 4.33 ERA but that number is really iffy moving forward. Note too that Bedard has been a fly ball pitcher for much of the season and yet he’s allowed only four home runs – a stat that will undoubtedly catch up with the aging lefty. The upstart Astros have again hit a snag losing five of their last six games; however they own a big pitching advantage this afternoon and we’ll back them as a small road underdog.
Pro bettor Erin Rynning is widely known as one of the top handicappers in the industry and the reason is simple: he has shown the ability to consistently beat every sport. Last football season he banked nearly +30 units in CFB/NFL; he's off a ninth straight winning season in the NBA (+20 units), and is well on his way to a monster MLB campaign (+22.13). Quit messing around with other hack services when ER is without question your top option for winning action.
